    Chapter 79: Shopping

Wen Ying decided to set the theme for the second round as Magic Birthday.

Feng Luo soon found out that Lai Yehua had authorized Wen Ying. Lai Yehua himself approached and mentioned it casually, but Feng Luo’s face remained expressionless. He directly said, "Are you out of your mind?"

Lai Yehua forced a smile, "When I first heard him, my first reaction was also that you must have been squeezed by a door."

Lai Yehua suddenly realized something was amiss. He lowered his eyes to ponder, and Feng Luo also seemed lost in thought. Soon, his face darkened abruptly.

    "Wen... Ying."

Feng Luo's voice was frighteningly low. There wasn't any anger from a fit of rage, but the tone was terrifyingly deep. The calmness in his voice conveyed gritted teeth and a desire for revenge.

Lai Yehua, surprisingly, laughed. "You're too stupid to be trapped by him."

Feng Luo, who was originally sitting on a chair, pushed the chair beneath him away with great force, hitting Lai Yehua's leg and forcing him to take a step back. The situation where Lai Yehua was looking down at Feng Luo was reversed as Feng Luo, with a slight height advantage, stood up to look down at him.

Lai Yehua quickly retreated to a distance where he could no longer be looked down upon with those eyes.

"Why did you agree?" Feng Luo truly couldn't have imagined that the moment Muershi proposed a bet that day, he had immediately given him a sound beating.

He believed it was utterly impossible for Lai Yehua to grant authorization for magic cards. The Fallen Angel Clan supported Lan Jiaying, and Wen Ying's grudge with her was already incalculable. Hence, Feng Luo agreed to Muershi's wager.

Upon being asked this, Lai Yehua's expression subtly shifted, losing its earlier aggression as if he was evading something.

Seizing the opportunity, Feng Luo advanced with a dominant smile, "From the look of it, is it that difficult to say? Could it be something you can't mention?"

Feng Luo's tone at this moment was unexpectedly similar to Muershi's taunting manner, his eyebrows sharp and raised in mockery.

"Scram!" Lai Yehua waved his hand, dismissing Feng Luo without a word, leaving the office with a cold expression.

Watching Lai Yehua's hurried figure disappear, Feng Luo's confusion grew. He pulled back the chair he had kicked away and sat down, deep in thought.

"How on earth did Wen Ying convince Lai Yehua to agree..."

It couldn't have been due to the bet between Wen Ying and Muershi; Lai Yehua wouldn't harm himself while destroying his enemy. There must have been another reason, and they were so confident that Lai Yehua would consent, which was why Muershi sought him out for a bet.

"What could have possibly made Lai Yehua nod in agreement..."

Feng Luo spent the entire morning pondering, unable to comprehend why Lai Yehua would have agreed. It was maddening, but his confusion didn't hinder the afternoon's practical combat training session. With fists and kicks, he warmly greeted Wen Ying and Muershi. Usually disdainful of overtime, he willingly worked extra hours after class to ensure both received adequate training. He even went as far as to personally escort them to the infirmary with an unexpectedly amiable attitude for a demon.

At the infirmary, Feng Luo asked Wen Ying, "How did you convince Lai Yehua to agree?"

Wen Ying winced in pain, gasping for air. Feng Luo had been particularly brutal today; even someone like Wen Ying, who was accustomed to life with demons, couldn't help but continuously draw in breaths from the ache.

"Teacher Feng Luo, I think you were taking out your personal grudge on us this afternoon."

Instead of directly answering Feng Luo, Wen Ying groaned in complaint, the pain causing tears to well up in his eyes.

Feng Luo replied coldly, "It's because you've been slacking off lately. You've neglected the close combat techniques I taught you."

Indeed, after the mid-term exams, Wen Ying's attention had been scattered. The magic cards had become more intuitive to use, and as Feng Luo pointed out, his close combat skills had been neglected.

But that wasn't related to Feng Luo settling a personal score today.

Bending down, Feng Luo asked with an expressionless face, "So how did you manage to convince Lai Yehua?"

Lying in bed, covered by a blanket that concealed his face, Wen Ying appeared pitiful and innocent as he shrunk under the covers, "I don't have that kind of influence."

Fixing his gaze away from the seemingly innocent and vulnerable Wen Ying, Feng Luo's mind immediately conjured up a name: "Aluda?"

Wen Ying nodded, burying his face further into the covers, half hidden.

With the answer, albeit not specific, Feng Luo finally understood why Lai Yehua had agreed. But Aluda... No, considering how doting Aluda was on Wen Ying, it was indeed possible that he would do such a thing.

In reality, Aluda only had a superficial connection to the matter. As Wen Ying watched Feng Luo leave, his expression remained innocent.

"Painful..." Wen Ying moaned softly, no longer needing to feign paleness as his face genuinely looked pitiful.

He decided to sleep, leaving thoughts of the second magic card for tomorrow. There were still two characters missing.

The next day, both Wen Ying and Muershi missed their morning classes. It wasn't until the afternoon that they could move around freely. Wen Ying left his private ward, or rather, the single-magic patient room, pushing open the door to the adjacent ward.

Muershi sat by the bed, waving at Wen Ying. "Looks like our recovery rates are about the same. Feng Luo was terrifying yesterday. Sigh, he had already beaten me up once, so why did he still fly off the handle in embarrassment?"

"Let me tell you, I suspect Lai Yehua might have provoked him. Otherwise, Feng Luo wouldn't have been so furious yesterday."

Muershi started rambling as soon as Wen Ying entered the room.

Wen Ying sat down beside him, and the two demons perched on the edge of the bed.

"Yes, he beat you up that day, so why did he hit me yesterday?" Wen Ying sighed.

Muershi protested, "Hey, hey, I got beaten twice, not just once like you!"

"There's not much difference," Wen Ying said. "Let's talk about the second series of magic cards."

Muershi pursed his lips but asked, "What do you want to say?"

"We're still short of two characters," Wen Ying said. "Who in the class do you think would be more likely to give me authorization? They can't be unpopular either."

Muershi counted on his fingers. "Feng Luo, Lai Yehua, and Essence – those three are definitely popular, and many demons would buy them. Wu Fei and you have your own extreme fanbases, so I don't think we need to worry too much about them. Save some of the more popular characters for the third series."

Wen Ying looked at Muershi in amazement. This guy was indeed a capitalist; he had somehow figured it out on his own.

Muershi looked at him quizzically. "What's with that look?"

Wen Ying patted his shoulder. "You're a quick learner."

Despite the fact that the remaining two characters weren't as crucial, Wen Ying deliberated and decided to consult the Witch Fairy and the Nekomata.

Considering their suitability for the Devil's Birthday theme, Wen Ying felt that the Witch Fairy and the Nekomata would be excellent choices. He sought them out to ask for their authorization.

The Witch Fairy only needed a few seconds of contemplation before readily agreeing. Seeing her consent, the Nekomata also nodded in approval. Their cooperation touched Wen Ying's conscience, prompting him to decide on sharing one-tenth of the profits from their character cards.

Muershi was astonished by Wen Ying's generosity upon learning this.

With the characters finalized, Wen Ying began his work. Lai Yehua eagerly awaited Wen Ying's arrival on-site to create the cards, as the Magic Mirror Demon needed to witness an actual spellcasting in person to replicate it; a video wouldn't suffice.

Though he reluctantly granted Wen Ying the authority due to coercion, Lai Yehua couldn't find peace until the task was completed. With Wen Ying's continued absence, he felt uneasy.

    He had an ominous premonition.

Driven by this, he even sought Feng Luo for information, only to learn that Wen Ying hadn't approached Feng Luo either.

After waiting for several days, Lai Yehua discovered that Wen Ying and Muershi's second round of promotional ads and announcements were already on sale, available for purchase by interested demon friends.

If Wen Ying hadn't come to see him after that, how could this have happened? Lai Yehua was perplexed. Upon seeing the packaging of the second installment in the video ad, his vision darkened, and he felt his mind ringing with dizziness.

    The Demon's Birthday theme?

On Demon's Day, he had worn two outfits. Although Lai Yehua wanted Wen Ying to recreate the one he wore at the banquet in the Demon King's castle, he had a nagging feeling that the mischievous little rabbit, Wen Ying, would choose the sacrificial robe instead.

He examined the packaging box closely and suddenly slammed his palm down hard enough to dent the tabletop.

    "Wen... Ying!"

Wen Ying sneezed. It was probably Lai Yehua cursing him at this moment. The corners of his lips couldn't help but curve up. The shop assistant from Muershi's store had informed him that on the first day of release, two-thirds of the stock had already been sold, and it was likely to be completely gone by tomorrow.

He and Muershi monitored the group buying prices online. The next day, they discovered that all the group buys were now without Wen Ying or Wu Fei cards.

Wen Ying was stunned. "Are those extremist fans really spending that much?"

It seemed possible to launch his own card just to cash in on these extremist fans.

Boros stared expressionlessly at his phone. Why could Wen Ying's character card sell so quickly?

The following day, Wen Ying overheard the shop assistant telling him that Boros had purchased all the remaining stock.

On the first day, two-thirds of the stock were sold. Wen Ying made more that night, so there should have been enough for the second day. Yet, Poros bought up all the remaining cards on the third day?

If not for the rule of keeping phones in the classroom office during lessons, Wen Ying would have stared at Poros in disbelief right now.

Why did he buy the magic cards? For whom?

Wait a minute, Wen Ying muttered to himself. Surely Poros wasn't buying the cards to use as virtual punching bags, was he?

Wen Ying felt a chill run down his spine.

Putting that aside, Feng Luo had become much friendlier towards Wen Ying and Muershi ever since he saw Lai Yehua's character card. He no longer took out his personal grudges in class. However, whenever Wen Ying accidentally crossed paths with Lai Yehua on campus, Lai Yehua's glare could kill, and the magic around him seemed to be tangible.

Knowing that Lai Yehua couldn't do anything to him, Wen Ying greeted him innocently, which only made Lai Yehua even more sulky.

This peaceful daily routine lasted for a week. After a week, Muershi began investigating who had been purchasing large quantities of Wen Ying and Wu Fei's character cards based on the bulk-buying group.

Muershi had some demonic power at his disposal, thanks to his family's influence.

Wen Ying was doing homework at his desk when he received a call from Muershi.

    "What's the matter?"

"I just received an astonishing report from one of my subordinates."

    "Hmm?"

"Among the demons bulk purchasing your character cards, there was Beros."

Wen Ying sat up straight, his hands gripping his phone tightly. "Are you serious?"

Muershi said with a teasing tone, "Can you guess if he bought a large number of your cards to use as virtual punching bags or because he likes you?"

Wen Ying fell silent for a moment before hanging up. When Beros had beaten him, who had transformed into a slime demon during midterms, the blows were ruthless. Though Wen Ying wished it was the second option, he couldn't help but feel that the answer was the first.
