Chapter 135: Exposure
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 135: Exposure
Wen Ying said, "Over there, everyone is rushing out."
There was only one exit in this banquet hall, but it was spacious enough that the panicked crowd wouldn't block it even if they all rushed towards it at once. The demon appeared far from the door. Those currently by the entrance, the clever ones, immediately fled outside.
Yang Shiming: "..." Well, but... Did these demons' first instinct really have to be to run?
The demon was being held back by a single person, precisely the man Wen Ying had suspected earlier. He directly displayed his exorcist powers before the multitude of ordinary people, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
"Superman?"
"Is that magic?"
"It must be some kind of supernatural ability."
Those near the door immediately fled, while those farther away worried they might encounter the turbid demon on their way. The man's display of power was like divine intervention to them.
Wen Ying pulled Yang Shiming and Huo Jue along to the entrance. They stood beside the door, peering inside.
Huo Jue whispered, "Do you know that man's identity?"
"Wofficial business," Muershi replied.
"That man is Xiao Long's knight, his name is Wang Run," Muershi informed.
The crowd at the entrance suddenly surged, catching Wen Ying's attention as he glanced sideways. He saw quite a number of people attempting to enter against the flow of the crowd.
"Not wasting any time," Wen Ying murmured, stepping aside to watch them come in.
Upon seeing the middle-aged man standing amidst the group, Wen Ying's pupils constricted, and he instinctively gripped the two puppets in his hand tighter.
After the turbid devil had appeared, it was swiftly dealt with. There were no fatalities on site, only some injuries.
Despite being an unforeseen event, Wang Run's appearance was too coincidental, and the exorcists' arrival was suspiciously prompt. The entire situation reeked of intrigue.
"Were there any traces of demonic aura from the Realm of Devils in the Human Realm before tonight?" Wen Ying asked Muershi via telepathy.
"There are no records of any, and we wouldn't know of anything unknown to the devils," Muershi answered solemnly. "But a mid-ranking devil from the Realm of Devils appearing in the Human Realm might be a first."
The barrier between the Demon Realm and the Human Realm was weakening.
"Boros suddenly said, "There's unusual spatial fluctuations near the cake stand."
Wen Ying looked in the direction Boros pointed. If he recalled correctly, Wang Run had stood there for quite some time earlier. When the turbid demon appeared, Wang Run was still standing at that spot.
Wen Ying wasn't sure why the Church of the Archangel would expose a demon to so many ordinary people from Mu City's high society, but he was certain that it had something to do with the Extremists' ultimate goal.
The demon of the Extremists wanted to return to the Human Realm, and they had been attempting to do so persistently.
After about a dozen exorcists managed to stabilize the situation and reassure the attendees, Xiao Long stepped onto the stage and picked up the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we apologize for the scare tonight. It was our fault that the exorcists of the Church of the Archangel failed to detect the demon from the Demon Realm in this banquet hall."
Wen Ying frowned. Boros and Muershi also sensed that something was seriously wrong.
"The Church's exorcists didn't just expose a demon to so many ordinary people, they even mentioned the Demon Realm by name? Are they out of their minds?"
"I think we need to report this to the Demon King immediately."
Xiao Long delivered a speech, essentially acknowledging their negligence and vowing for more diligent patrolling in the future. He also addressed questions from the attendees regarding the prevalence of demons, the number of exorcists, the possibility of ordinary people learning magic, and the frequency of demonic appearances.
Demons posed a significant threat to common folk, which led some entrepreneurs to inquire if they could hire exorcists as bodyguards.
Smiling, Xiao Long answered each question individually. Since his appearance, he had maintained an approachable and friendly demeanor, devoid of any airs.
"Please sign a non-disclosure agreement, not to divulge the existence of demons or the Realm of Demons to outsiders," he requested.
They subtly yet deliberately reminded everyone of the "Realm of Demons," knowing that the revelation of such a perilous world would stir concern. These terrifying creatures were far more challenging to guard against than humans; their current security measures would be inadequate against such entities.
