    Chapter 172: Logic

This demonic figure, shrouded in black mist, evoked memories of the black hole incident in Mu City for Chang Ningsheng. Back then, there were several such demons attacking exorcists.

Chang Ningsheng instinctively heightened his guard.

"Can you two represent the entire group of exorcists?" The blond fallen angel's scrutinizing gaze was unapologetic, as if assessing their worth.

Being sized up by a demon was not a pleasant experience.

"It depends on what you have to say," Chang Ningsheng replied coolly. "For minor matters, I can make decisions."

"Did you put out that card and novel?" Lu Rongyu, with an appearance of righteousness, inquired.

    Kirishino smiled. "Yes, we did."

Wen Ying's gaze occasionally fell on the fox ears atop the other's head.

With the arrival of the exorcists, everyone had returned to their original demonic forms. Both Ye Wang and Kirishino were now in their true appearances. Kirishino's ears and tail made Wen Ying's fingers itch to stroke something fluffy once more.

Taking advantage of the darkness, the exorcist couldn't see in Wen Ying's direction, but Wen Ying kept stealing glances at Kirishino.

The exorcists might be oblivious, but Kirishino could sense it - demons were highly sensitive to gazes. Since Wen Ying had no intention of hiding, Kirishino's mind was in turmoil, wondering what he might have done to offend that capricious little ancestor.

Could it be because a few days ago, he refused to help with the demon's homework on demon history, explaining that after spending so many years in the human world, he had forgotten much of demon history and could only provide general knowledge, thus earning a grudge?

Or perhaps someone overheard him joking with other demons about how mimicking a harmless act while secretly being powerful was amusing in the human world?

The more Kirishino thought about it, the more he felt the gaze pricking at his back, sending shivers down his tail, causing his fur to involuntarily stand on end.

The blond Fallen Angel spoke with an indifferent tone, uttering words that even he found absurd: "Isn't there a saying among humans that the enemy of your enemy is your friend? So I believe we can become that kind of friend."

Aside from Chang Ningsheng, who maintained his composed demeanor, the expressions of the other exorcists were a mix of strangeness and disbelief.

    "Are you joking?"

Yang Ying's tone was seemingly in the form of a question, but it carried the weight of a statement.

Ye Wang's tone remained unchanged as he replied with the same nonchalant air: "No, we're quite serious."

All five exorcists were taken aback.

Really? Demons from the Demon Realm wanted to cooperate with them?

Wen Ying spoke up, "From your positions, I assume you're well aware that some within your ranks have been collaborating with the Extremists?"

Wei Zheng was less adept at concealing his thoughts, and his expression confirmed Wen Ying's suspicion.

"Since the Extremists can work with humans, so can we," Wen Ying looked at Wei Zheng, "It would save both sides time and effort, and wouldn't harm either of us."

"In other words, if you decline, we'll have reason to suspect that many within your ranks have ties to the Extremists," Wen Ying paused, "Our current Demon King is focused on cultural development and construction, with no intention of invading the Human Realm. But if too many of you are working with the Extremists..."

Wen Ying didn't spell it out explicitly; veiled threats were more effective when left to the listener's imagination.

"What kind of logic is that?!" Wei Zheng's eyes widened, finding the demon shrouded in black mist utterly shameless.

Lu Rongyu commented, "I'd rather interpret this as you having had plans to invade our world all along, and the Extremists are merely an excuse, a justification for your aggression."

Kirishino chuckled, "Why are the Extremists called the Extremists? It's because they're nothing like us peace-loving demons. They're the ones who crave to wage war."

Demons, advocates of peace? The five individuals wore a mix of bewildered and skeptical expressions, though some kept their thoughts to themselves.

As they spoke, Chang Ningsheng pondered carefully before responding, "Cooperation is not out of the question, as long as your collaboration is genuine and not a pretense for invading the human realm."

The blond fallen angel produced a pre-written paper contract and handed it to Chang Ningsheng.

San Lin, who had been quietly tucked away in the corner, widened his eyes in disbelief. It was as if he had lost all sense of identity and location. The idea that the demon realm would cooperate with the official exorcists was surreal, stirring a surge of astonishment within him. He fixated on the contract being presented to the stern-looking exorcist, eager to know its contents.

Chang Ningsheng swiftly scanned the document, then read it more slowly. The other four gathered around, maintaining their composure and attempting to glimpse the contract without pushing. Lu Rongyu, finding the crowd too dense, decided not to join.

"Allowing demons to study at our school?!" Tan Qingqing's astonished exclamation slipped out without filter, her tone brimming with disbelief.

Lu Rongyu, who had stayed back, wore an expression of shock. Unable to resist, he pushed past Wei Zheng to examine the demons' contract.

Night Wang and Kirishino, who had known about this beforehand, also found it hard to believe. Their emotions mirrored those of the exorcists, feeling absurdity yet aware that the higher-ups had indeed made such a demand.

San Lin's eyes widened in confusion. What had he just heard? Demons studying in the human realm? Was "our school" referring to the exorcists' academy or the newly established magic school for humans?

Impatient, he wished he could rush into the crowd of exorcists to snatch the contract and examine it thoroughly; his heart was deeply troubled.

Wen Ying waited until each one of them had finished reading with varying degrees of shock, even the young man who entered with an unchanged expression now wore a slightly stunned look. After a while, he spoke calmly, "You've all read it. Do you have any additions or suggestions?"

He also found it absurd, but the Devil himself didn't seem to think so. The feeling was as ridiculous as a client demanding black in every color.

But if he didn't complete this KPI, he would be in trouble. Wen Ying grumbled inwardly that when the Devil opened its mouth, the demons would have to run their legs off.

He couldn't imagine those arrogant and conceited demon prodigies peacefully coexisting with humans in an exorcist school. All he could picture was the scene of an explosion engulfing the campus.

Chang Ningsheng pondered before suggesting, "Yes, how can we be sure your intentions are pure? What if you use the guise of studying to secretly do other things in the human world?"

"That's easily handled," Wen Ying smiled, "To prove our sincerity, the demon students we send over will sign an equal contract with the exorcist students in the school. With an equal contract, you can roughly sense the location of the demons."

"You can't resist us like this," Wen Ying continued, "The weakening of the barrier is a fact, and it will continue to weaken. It's inevitable that more extreme factions will come through. Not to mention whether you can withstand them, just consider the casualties. Wouldn't it be better to cooperate with us and reduce human losses?"

"I have a question," Tan Qingqing spoke up.

Wen Ying gave a soft "Hmm?" in response.

Tan Qingqing's gaze was filled with contemplation. "Is your status higher than that blond demon over there?"

Wen Ying paused for a moment before giving a vague answer to divert the topic. "The Supreme Judge is the highest-ranking demon."

Apologizing yet delving deeper into the matter, Tan Qingqing said, "I'm sorry, but I got the impression that you were the one making all the decisions earlier, hence the misunderstanding."

Ye Wang scoffed and sat down on the chair as if no one else was present, leaning back casually with an informal posture.

"It's you guys who came, not some holy son," Ye Wang said leisurely, his demeanor relaxed. "Ask your questions clearly, then return and have them provide me with the answers."
