Chapter 181: Farting
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 181: Farting
Aluda was the one who collected materials!
"What do you mean by collecting materials?"
Muershi lowered his head again and whispered into Wen Ying's ear, "This guy probably isolated himself while he was healing."
"Wen Ying replied promptly, "It's nothing. I've been developing new hobbies lately, and I think we might have some common interests."
Beros: "When did you develop this kind of... hobby?"
Wen Ying looked at him but didn't say anything, leaving Beros puzzled with an indistinct feeling of foreboding.
Wen Ying raised the corner of his mouth and gave Beros a meaningful smile, "I didn't have it before, but a certain demon made me realize how interesting this hobby could be."
Beros felt that Wen Ying's "certain demon" was referring to him, so he narrowed his eyes slightly, "I'm not like him."
Wen Ying sensed that Beros' "him" referred to Yun Lao. He shrugged with his hands spread open, "In a certain way of thinking, you're quite similar." Sometimes, people only learn after being beaten.
Yun Lao listened to the two demons conversing in riddles, his displeasure rising as he asked, "Beros, who is this demon?"
Muershi intervened with a grin, "He's the creator of the magic card you like."
Yun Lao knew that the magic cards were crafted by the Mirror Demon, but he never expected it to be this very demon standing before him. His eyes lit up as he quickly leaned close to Wen Ying's ear, whispering softly, "Can I ask you something...?"
To ensure privacy, Yun Lao deliberately released a magical barrier to block the demons' exceptional hearing.
Muershi strolled over to Beros, jesting casually, "What do you think Yun Lao and Wen Ying are whispering about?"
Beros replied, "…It probably isn't something that will make me happy." He had a strong feeling that whatever Yun Lao was discussing with Wen Ying was definitely not good news.
Wen Ying's expression became intriguing as he heard their whispers. He rubbed his chin and said, "This doesn't seem right."
Muershi adopted an evaluative tone, "Beros, did you see the look in Wen Ying's eyes? I think they're more dangerous than my mother when she's angry."
Beros remained silent, his lips pressed tightly together. His danger radar was going off wildly. Wen Ying's gaze felt like it was eating into his bones, piercing his skin like ice spikes. It was an utterly terrible sensation – a premonition of misfortune that he had never experienced before.
Not for the sake of pride, he even considered taking a step back.
Yun Lao: "There's nothing wrong with it. Beross mentioned collecting materials earlier. Although I don't understand, you want my scales, right? As long as you give me the magic card I desire, you can pluck my scales."
Wen Ying's fingers rubbed his chin more quickly. "That doesn't seem appropriate." It was unclear if he was referring to plucking the scales casually or giving Yun Lao the type of magic card he wanted.
"I'll take responsibility if anything goes wrong," the seemingly delicate but actually tough Black Dragon Devil pledged to the Magic Mirror Devil with sincerity.
"Deal."
"Aren't you guys supposed to be standing over there?" An Evil Bird Clan devil approached, drawing the attention of the other devils.
"Muershi," Muershi called out.
The approaching devil was Muershi's mother, the clan leader of the Evil Bird Clan. At the castle banquet last time, Wen Ying hadn't gotten a close look at her, but now that they were near, he curiously observed her discreetly. There were no ugly devils, and this one had a pair of blue-purple wings similar to Muershi's, along with eyes that bore a resemblance too.
Her tone when she spoke wasn't the typical dignified one. It had a rhythmic lilt, light and casual, yet still carried an air of nobility.
"Hello," Wen Ying nodded slightly. Beross and Yun Lao also greeted her.
"Yun Lao, it's been half a year," Yan Yujing observed Yun Lao critically. "You've recovered quite well." Her gaze swept across the demons, excluding her son. Though her eyes bore the marks of time, they shared the same mischievous glint with Muershi.
"Bellerophon—"
His voice preceded his arrival.
"Father." Bellerophon's brow twitched imperceptibly.
The robust and valiant demon strode forward, exuding an intimidating presence just with his physique.
Lennach walked alongside him, saying, "Control your temper, and don't always be so ruthless."
"I didn't attack anyone," Bellerophon replied.
Lennach continued, "Try to relax your face. Look at that wicked bird lad; his smile is much more pleasant to see."
"Hmm, are you... Is Arudha here today?"
Wen Ying shook her head. "I'm not too sure about that. Grandma didn't mention it to me."
"Sit down, why are you all standing there?" Lennach approached and looped his arm around Beros' neck, guiding him forward.
Wen Ying glanced at Beros' face, which was scowling with impatience. He tried to push away his father's hand, but failed.
As he turned his gaze, he saw Lan Jiaying, who had just entered, looking at Beros and Lennach with a hint of envy in her eyes.
Wen Ying thought that perhaps it would be better if they swapped fathers.
The demons began to arrive one by one. Wen Ying spotted many of his classmates as well as the high-ranking demons he had seen at the Devil King's castle banquet. Muershi led Wen Ying to their seats.
In this tall-ceilinged hall, the seating arrangement consisted of long low tables arranged along the sides of the square space. The main seat was at the top, without any stools – only soft cushions were provided.
Utensils were already set on each of the long low tables.
Today's seating arrangement had parents and their offspring seated side by side. The high-ranking demons occupied the higher positions, while those of lower status took seats below.
There were three low tables at the main position. Yan Yujing did not sit in the middle; she chose the low table on the right-hand side. Muershi's seat was the first one below the main position, as he was the host.
However, Muershi didn't take his designated seat. Instead, he opted to sit beside Wen Ying, not wanting to miss out on the fun that always seemed to surround his son.
Wen Ying felt he was seated rather towards the back.
Adult demons were engaging in small talk, some bringing along their young ones to either compete or inquire about each other's recent affairs - not much different from human banquets, with a relaxed atmosphere.
The Devil King had also arrived. As Wen Ying observed him taking the central seat, he understood why Yan Yujing didn't sit there earlier.
Sitting properly in his seat, Wen Ying scanned the hall, contemplating who to approach first, when suddenly, someone tapped his shoulder.
".... Lord Lennach?" After a moment of thought, Wen Ying recalled the name of the leader of the Cerberus clan from the depths of his mind.
Lennach grabbed hold of Wen Ying's upper arm and pulled him up from his seat while speaking, "Bellerophon's mother had an unexpected matter to attend to and couldn't make it. There's now an empty spot. I noticed that brat kept looking over at you. Perfect, that spot is reserved for you."
Wen Ying: OO?
"Huh?" Wen Ying was confused.
Without asking for Wen Ying's consent, Lennach simply took hold of his arm and dragged him away.
This turn of events was also unexpected for Muershi. He paused, muttering to himself, "I should have known not to sit at the back..."
Most of the guests had arrived, and the front seats were now occupied.
Wen Ying was pulled by Lennach to an empty seat beside Pelos, looking utterly confused. Pelos seemed slightly perplexed.
"Lennach said your father mentioned that you've been looking in my direction."
"Bullshit!" Pelos immediately retorted.
Wen Ying blinked. "That's quite a new expression coming from you."
Pelos fell silent, shooting an annoyed glance at Lennach.
Lennach laughed heartily. "Don't be shy, Wen Ying. Although this brat has a bad temper and looks fierce, he won't hit you."
Wen Ying, who had been beaten up by Pelos many times during sparring classes for personal revenge, replied, "…Uh-huh."
Lennach knew the rumor, right? The one about him having feelings for Pelos. It had spread like wildfire at the start of the school year due to his ignorance.
The Hellhound clan leader didn't seem to care about his status. As Wen Ying looked at the laid-back and approachable Lennach, he caught a glimpse of the obvious irritation and restraint on Pelos's face out of the corner of his eye.
It was unimaginable that they were father and son.
It was said that the entire race of Hellhounds had fiery tempers, but this generation's patriarch was an exception.
"Welcoming all of you to the Wicked Bird Territory..."
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Yan Yujing began his opening remarks while instructing the kitchen to start serving the dishes.
A dozen young demonic feathered maidens gracefully flew in, dancing in the spacious central area.
"Were you really looking at me just now?" Wen Ying asked Bellerophon softly.
Bellerophon's voice was cold and tense. "Being with Muershi makes me uneasy."
Wen Ying could tell that he was currently agitated, as his voice carried a hint of a hoarse tone.
An image of a cartoon puppy bellowing in fury while helplessly wagging its tail popped into his mind.
After Yan Yujing finished speaking, it was the Devil King's turn to address the crowd.
Today's Demon King was in a youthful mood, speaking incessantly and at length.
Wen Ying listened for a while, his expression turning slightly solemn as he began to pay close attention.
"It's common knowledge that the barrier is weakening, and it will only continue to weaken. Interaction with the Human Realm is necessary."
"I've studied history repeatedly. Why did we demons fail thousands of years ago? It was because we only knew how to suppress with force, not how to tame spirits. Thus..."
The Demon King's words today were likely meant to pave the way for the first cohort of demons to sign contracts with exorcists and travel to the Human Realm to learn.
However, it was strange that Wen Ying didn't hear the Demon King mention his spiritual conquest plan; everything he said was superficially polished.
He looked at Belos, who was also looking at him.
"I'm not lying to you."
"I know," Belos replied, his gaze sweeping around the room. "It's not the right time."
"What do you mean?"
Boros said coldly, "Just wait."
This guy wasn't going to give him any answers at all. Wen Ying furrowed his brows slightly and felt like hitting him.
The demons in the territory of the Evil Bird served the dishes, and Wen Ying focused on his food.
The standard of the dishes at a demonic banquet was very high. Wen Ying had never encountered anything unpalatable.
He ate quietly, while the surrounding demons discussed their interactions with the human world while eating. Wen Ying felt as if he were in an ancient imperial court, but for demons. The ministers would propose opinions, refute or agree with each other – discussing state affairs while dining.
Listening to their discussions, Wen Ying felt that his understanding of the demon world had deepened.
Boros saw that Wen Ying's mouth didn't stop moving and asked, "How long have you been hungry?"
"I just simply wanted to eat."
Boros placed the untouched appetizer from his own plate onto Wen Ying's table.
Lennach witnessed this scene and thought to himself that the rumors must be wrong. It was clearly his son who had taken a fancy to this demon mirror.
Lennach knew his son intimately. Upon hearing the rumor back then about the Mirror Demon proactively extending its tail to entangle Berros's, he immediately investigated whether that Mirror Demon was still alive and, if so, the extent of its injuries. The outcome astonished him.
—Unscathed.
At that moment, he realized that his son must have had extraordinary feelings for that Mirror Demon, otherwise, he would have ended up like Yun Lao.
But who did this taste in beauty come from? To actually prefer silver-haired individuals...
