Chapter 228: Divination
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 228: Divination
Expecting to wait for a long while, Wen Ying was surprised when she received Koroy's message just fifteen minutes later, informing her that she had returned to her dorm and asking Wen Ying to come over.
When Wen Ying heard the notification sound, she didn't expect it to be from Koroy. Upon seeing the message, she was slightly taken aback. Had the incubus finished his business?
Perhaps Koroy had grown tired of it.
As Wen Ying headed towards the door, she asked, "Bellerophon, shall we go see Koroy together?"
Boros nodded and got up to follow Wen Ying.
It might have been an illusion, but Wen Ying felt that Boros was a bit clingy tonight, often losing focus or staring blankly at something, unlike his usual self.
Koroy lived alone in a single room. When Wen Ying knocked on the door, it was Muershi who opened it.
The instant Wen Ying saw Muershi, the strange sensation he had when Koroy swiftly replied to him earlier flashed through his mind.
With a hint of suspicion, Wen Ying asked, "Muershi, why are you here as well?" A sense of alertness rose within him.
Muershi appeared quite at ease as he sidestepped to make way, smiling. "I have a feeling that what you want to ask concerns the Extremists." With that, Muershi turned and entered.
"We're still a team, after all. We share both joys and hardships."
Wen Ying followed Boros inside. He noticed Wei Er was there too, sitting on the sofa watching television.
Wen Ying shifted his gaze back to Muershi. "I thought you guys had kicked me out since I haven't been with you on any missions."
Muershi paused in his steps, turning around with eyes shimmering with a captivating glow. His glance was both enchanting and cunning.
It was this very charm that was wicked and sly.
Through Muershi's bright purple irises, Wen Ying seemed to see a slender and agile bird laughing, its neck trembling with amusement, issuing a short, malicious chirp.
Boros exuded an aura of danger as he spoke in a deep voice, "Muershi, you have a problem."
Muershi touched his face. "How could that be? I've always been like this."
Wen Ying reached out to intercept Boros. At that moment, Koroy floated out from the bathroom, seated on his magic staff.
"I just washed my hands," Koroy drifted over to the group of demons, holding out her crystal ball. "Wen Ying, what do you want me to divine?"
Wen Ying temporarily put Muershi's question aside and said earnestly to Koroy, "I want to know the plans of the people from the Asaph Academy – whether they're targeting the exorcists in this country or us."
Koroy shook her head. "That's too broad. Divination can't provide very precise answers; it can only point in a direction and give some key information."
Wen Ying thought for a moment before speaking slowly, "Then let me ask, during the time when the Asaphians enter our nation, which one of us demons is in the most danger?"
Muershi clapped his hands. "Good question." He looked at Koroy.
Koroy's expression was both approving and somewhat gloating. "Let's see who the unlucky one is."
It was Wen Ying's first time witnessing a fairy's divination through a magic mirror, so he watched with rapt attention, barely blinking, as he followed Koroy's every move.
Koroy placed her hands in front of her, and the crystal ball hovered between them. It was so transparent that Wen Ying could see through it directly to the environment behind it, leaving him wondering how such a clear crystal ball could possibly yield an answer.
She silently chanted a spell, her lips moving as her magical power flowed into the crystal ball. A gentle whirlwind formed around her, lifting her hair, as if she were weightless.
Invisible waves spread out from the crystal ball, altering the atmosphere in the area.
Wen Ying fixated on the crystal ball, suddenly losing touch with his own existence. The image before his eyes remained unchanged, yet it seemed as if time itself had been erased from his perception.
An immense torrent of time resembled a galactic river, and Wen Ying felt as if he were floating upon its endless expanse. Surrounding him, stars shimmered like diamonds, and faint whispers from an ancient era reached his ears, their rhythm obscure and indiscernible, devoid of gender distinctions.
The solitary voice soon transformed into a cacophony, and the blurry stars began spinning rapidly.
Someone, or rather, many, were weeping. Their cries of sorrow intertwined with the roaring waves of the river, weighing heavily on his chest.
The swiftly moving stars gradually blurred, overlaying an image of people from an ancient time kneeling in rows on the ground. They shouted in a language unfamiliar to Wen Ying.
Before them, and between Wen Ying and this timeless scene, stood a divine stone. They were worshiping this stone.
Stars plummeted like a meteor shower, one of them merging into the divine stone that Wen Ying was observing.
As he gazed at the stone, the scene suddenly shifted back to Koroy's crystal ball. The surreal surroundings disappeared, and he found himself still in Koroy's dormitory.
Wen Ying blinked, his slightly hollow eyes slow to register. The vision he had just witnessed felt like a fantasy, but those arcane and ancient words couldn't have been a product of his imagination, could they?
He had only studied the languages of Huaxia and Country A; his foreign language repertoire wasn't that extensive.
The sorrowful wails of the group were so genuine that Wen Ying had never seen anything like it in any film or television drama. The gloom still lingered in his heart from the impact.
In his uncertainty, Koroy suddenly said, "The unlucky one turns out to be our First Prince."
Wen Ying snapped back to reality. This news was enough to make him forget the shock he just experienced. He blurted out, "Lan Jiaying is that unlucky one?" His tone was both surprised and excitedly amused.
Muershi clicked his tongue. "I didn't expect their target to be Lan Jiaying, but it's not entirely unexpected. There's a lot to exploit with his identity."
Boros asked calmly, "Why don't they go after Wu Fei? Yet they've set their sights on Lan Jiaying." As a Great Devil, Boros' pride made him scorn humans who dared to attack their own kind.
Muershi laughed and shook his head. "Wu Fei is, after all, a Black Dragon. He's not weak."
Seeing that Koroy was no longer gloating but instead had a serious expression as he pondered something, Wen Ying asked, "What's wrong?"
"I used the word 'danger' in my divination just now," Koroy paused, "Maybe I'm overthinking it."
Wei Er walked over. "What did the crystal ball show you?"
"Lan Jiaying's furious face. He was extremely angry, and the image in the crystal ball flashed by quickly."
Wei Er wondered, "That's it?"
Koroy shook her head. "This isn't common, but it's not unheard of either. Perhaps there's something around that's obstructing my divination."
Just like how she had tried to divine what would happen between Berlos and Wen Ying in bed, only to be blocked by Berlos' power.
Wen Ying stroked his chin. "Lan Jiaying, who cares so much about propriety, is actually angry. There might be some ace up Acephale's sleeve. Koroy, can you divine again…?"
Koroy shook her head. "Not until tomorrow."
"Well, then, can you divine for me tomorrow if they possess any enchanted artifacts passed down from thousands of years ago?"
"Sure."
Wen Ying looked at Wei Er. "Wei Er, do you usually watch Koroy's crystal ball when she's divining?"
Wei Er nodded.
Wen Ying probed, "Then did you see anything in the crystal ball?"
As Wei Er shook his head, Koroy interjected, "Forget about Wei Er, I can't see anything in my mother's crystal ball either. Only the owner can see it."
Undeterred, Wen Ying asked, "So no other demon can see anything in the crystal ball? Nothing will happen if they try?"
Muershi queried with a hint of intrigue, "Did you perhaps see something?"
Looking at Wen Ying with a puzzled expression, Koroy knew that only the owner of a witch fairy's crystal ball could see its visions – not even blood relatives were privy to them.
Wen Ying maintained a casual demeanor as he replied, "I think I just heard a cry."
"Baleos chuckled, "You must have misheard. My ears perked up, but I didn't hear anything. Not a single sound."
"Maybe so," Wen Ying acknowledged, his nonchalant attitude leaving Muershi with no opening to probe further.
Koroy gave Muershi a look, effectively quelling any further discussion on the matter. "Let's discuss the rest tomorrow," he yawned. "Tonight, I'll think about whether or not to tell Lan Jiaying about this. He'd probably just brush it off with a laugh."
As he spoke, Koroy gently nudged Wen Ying towards the door.
"Wait..."
Muershi sat on the armrest of the sofa, waving at them. "Hurry up and leave, don't interrupt our drama."
Both Wen Ying and Poros were surprised.
"Drama?" Wen Ying's voice rose in shock.
Wei Er gestured for them to be quiet. "It's at a crucial point now. The daughter-in-law is about to confess to her mother-in-law."
Wen Ying: "???"
Poros: "???"
Koroy seized the opportunity to push the dazed Wen Ying towards the door. Muershi bravely poked Poros' arm, but Poros walked towards the door before he could be prodded.
"Bye." Koroy shut the door right after the two demons stepped out.
Wei Er picked up the remote and turned up the volume on the TV. Wen Ying and Poros, standing by the door, could vaguely hear a female voice and several astonished male voices coming from inside.
Boros glanced at Wen Ying, "Humans…."
Wen Ying quickly interrupted him, "No, humans usually don’t act like that." It was hard to imagine the mental state of the director and scriptwriter of that drama.
"They, Muershi and the others, have such unique tastes."
As he sighed, Wen Ying explained the normal emotional dynamics in human society to Boros. The two demons gradually moved away.
In the room, with the background noise of the TV show, Muershi urged eagerly, "Hurry up, hurry up!"
Wei Er revealed a curious expression.
"Trying it now," Koroy said with excitement.
During the previous divination, the crystal ball had caught a glimpse of Boros. Even though it was only a fleeting moment, it still counted as contact. Now, it should no longer result in vomiting without any outcome when they tried to divine.
Koroy calmed her excited heart, took a deep breath, and the crystal ball glowed in her hand.
Koroy gazed at the crystal ball. To an outsider's eye, the crystal ball remained clear and transparent, showing nothing. Koroy's gaze seemed unfocused, slightly lifeless.
The crystal ball quickly displayed an image, and Koroy felt a jolt to his perception, his expression ineffable.
Muershi's tone was filled with anticipation. "Well, how was it?"
The crystal ball in Koroy's hand dimmed slowly. He pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice complicated. "How do I put this? Poros... is incredibly absurd."
Wei Er was puzzled. "Why is that absurd? What did you see?"
Muershi seemed deep in thought. "Did Wen Ying go insane? Essence always told me that Wen Ying has great potential in that aspect."
Koroy's lips twitched. "No, Wen Ying seems quite normal."
Muershi grew anxious and pressed on. "So just how absurd is Poros?"

Koroy pondered for a moment. "You know those dogs from the Human Realm, right? Poros is even more exaggerated than them. Strangely alluring, I must say."
In the crystal ball, Koroy witnessed Belos lifting his hand to hold Wen Ying's, gently stroking his own ear with it. His eyes were hazy, and he nuzzled against Wen Ying's hand.
"Though our speculation was a bit off, the general direction was correct. Belos is indeed lying down in bed, and Wen Ying is the active one," Koroy paused, "Oh, by the way, I feel that the future Wen Ying is much more dangerous. We need to be more cautious from now on, Muershi, don't go too far."
The demon's intuition warned Koroy that the Mirror Demon of that time was extremely perilous.
Wen Ying sneezed.
