Chapter 280: Hint
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 280: Hint
It had to be said that the sinister and profound nature that lurked beneath the veneer of elegance after the golden-scaled dragon demon shed his disguise was like a completely different persona.
Wen Ying was astonished. Previously, he had also angered Lan Jiaying, but she had never displayed such madness and ferocity, not even when she cut his hair.
Previously, he thought he had pushed the boundaries to their limits; it turns out those actions didn't even scratch the surface of what could be tolerated.
Now that Wen Ying has witnessed the true madness of demons when they cast aside reason, he retrospectively feels that the demons he found somewhat unbearable to continue harming before weren't truly intolerable after all.
"He's truly furious," Essence mused, rapping on the door. "Whatever's inside must be smoldering with its own rage."
"After all, such matters..." Muershi was unlike his usual playful self. His gaze was cold, and no trace of emotion could be found on his face.
Cat Demon: "What could the Great Devil be thinking?" As a mid-ranking demon, he didn't react as excessively as the higher demons; now, he was rather curious, like an onlooker enjoying the show.
"Why are you all gathered at the door?" Phileas, the butterfly merman, had also come to look for Wen Ying, but he found a crowd of devils squeezed around her entrance in an undignified manner, which elicited his disdain and contempt.
Koroy asked, "Are you going in?"
Phelios sensed the scorching intensity and aura of the soul at the entrance, but remained silent.
Wu Fei, Lilith, and the Levimo siblings also approached, observing the bustling demons from a distance in the corridor. The oppressive demonic energy infused with Lan Jiaying's murderous intent made Wu Fei reluctant to proceed further.
"I feel like he'll despise me even more now," Wu Fei said numbly, "He might think I'm a useless waste, a half-breed unable to compete with a Devil Mirror demon."
After spending almost half a year with Lan Jiaying, he could somewhat anticipate her thought process. She would tolerate personal disgrace, but not that of the Black Dragon Clan.
"No, this...," Lilith paused, her tone turning into a sigh of resignation, "He will indeed take his anger out on you." Wu Fei was unaware of the rules of the Law, but they had a vague understanding, and it was more than ninety percent likely that Lan Jiaying's anger wouldn't affect him.
"Does Lan Jiaying want to become the next Demon King that much?" Wu Fei felt an unprecedented terror from the overwhelming demonic power, as if it were a precursor to a rampage. It stirred a chill across his skin with its ferocity.
He sensed an extreme anger and resentment from the power, as if he could hear the roar of dragons in his ears. The spiritual resonance between his kind dragged him into the dark abyss of fury. Wu Fei's scalp tingled.
Levimo looked at Wu Fei. Either because he had grown up in the human world or due to being a half-breed, Wu Fei seemed oblivious. He asked, "How do you feel about Wen Ying becoming the next Demon King?"
Wu Fei scratched his cheek, "Surprised?"
"A half-breed is a half-breed, lacking the pride of a true demon."
Scarlet sauntered in from the staircase, his tail swishing behind him, his tone repressed and his expression cold.
"You've all made the wrong choice. Aligning yourselves early won't make a difference."
A sharp glint flickered in Lilith's eyes. "This situation won't last long." Wen Ying wouldn't hold the position of the Devil King for more than twenty years.
In the room, Beros, faced with Lan Jiaying's question, answered nonchalantly as if they were having a casual chat, "I suppose so. I like him because he's strong."
He had already given a hint out of a small amount of sympathy.
But Lan Jiaying burst into laughter, mocking, "Him? Strong? Beros, are you really that love-struck that your mind has gone fuzzy? He may be strong now, but what about a year from now?"
Sitting on the sofa, Wen Ying listened to these mocking words filled with disdain. His eyelids twitched, suppressing the urge to retaliate. He told himself that Lan Jiaying, this pampered dragon, was deeply affected today and needed sympathy, not violence. He must show compassion.
It was normal for someone to act out after being provoked, let alone a demon with intense desires.
Outside, Muershi pondered over Beros's words. "Because he's strong"? Beros couldn't possibly make such a basic mistake in judgment. Either Beros meant that he only liked Wen Ying before his adulthood, or...
Could a Mirror Demon truly possess equal strength to their adult selves, as that fleeting instance thousands of years ago suggested?
Wen Ying is already an adult, without the chance to double his strength. Could it be that he obtained something from the angel's palace that day?
Muershi realized that he hadn't engaged in sparring with Wen Ying recently, so he was unaware of Wen Ying's current power level.
"Lets hope you still feel the same way a year from now." Lan Jiaying, whose mental state was in disarray, judged that Perseus was currently love-struck. He turned to leave, the corners of his mouth quirking up slightly.
Watching Lan Jiaying leave without any hesitation, Wen Ying's lips twitched. Was all this fuss just for him to throw a disgraceful tantrum? His proud and noble prince had even shed his dignity.
At the door, Lan Jiaying suddenly returned to his elegant and refined demeanor. He turned back and said to Wen Ying with a deep, resonant voice, as smooth as a cello: "I hope you'll maintain your current spirit a year from now."
Wen Ying: "..." This dragon seemed a little crazy. Was the impact of the position of Devil King really that great on him? The other demons outside didn't seem to react that much. Behind Lan Jiaying's smile, there was a dark aura rolling, revealing a twisted grin.
Putting aside their power, Lan Jiaying's smile made Wen Ying straighten his back against the sofa.
Not only Wen Ying, but a few of the surrounding demons were also shaken.
"Your Highness, no need to wait a year," Wu Shaluo suddenly appeared, his voice confident and resolute. "I'll challenge him on your behalf tomorrow."
