Chapter 283: Shock
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 283: Shock
Was Wu Shaluo underestimating his opponent?
Initially, as an adolescent Scarlet Crow, he did think that way. When Wen Ying kicked him in the face, Wu Shaluo was furious. His hands were enveloped in flames, and he punched towards Wen Ying's foot that had struck his face.
Not hitting his target didn't surprise Wu Shaluo too much. He manipulated his magical power to create several circular fire rings around them, attempting to trap Wen Ying.
Some of the fire rings connected, forming a web that narrowed down Wen Ying's movement area on the platform.
"That kid has quite a good sense of combat."
"His judgment is prompt."
Wen Ying's initial close-range kick was merely to vent his frustration from being belittled. Since Wu Shaluo failed to grab his foot, Wen Ying promptly retreated, and several magic cards appeared around him.
Wu Shaluo snorted coldly, "I was prepared for this."
He had created quite a number of fire rings to exhaust Wen Ying's magic cards.
With the magic he was currently wielding, it couldn't be blocked by just a few cards from Wen Ying; much more would be needed...
Wu Shaluo's smile widened when he saw that Wen Ying was indeed using the magic cards themselves to create a firewall, and then creating new cards in the process, which promptly disappeared as they replicated his own spell.
Their similar magic fire circles collided, with the resulting heat and smoke enveloping the stage like a fireworks display.
Wu Shaluo flapped his wings to dispel the smoke, his face filled with disbelief. Wasn't he in his adult form right now? Why was this happening...
Wu Shaluo felt a blur between fantasy and reality, a hint of fear in his heart, but mostly an intense desire for a stronger attack.
The spectators around them gasped in amazement as they witnessed Wen Ying replicate Wu Shaluo's magic on the spot, with no less power than the original. Everyone leaned forward involuntarily, eager to get a better look at the unfolding spectacle.
The Greater Devils noticed something amiss and began to subtly glance at Aluda, who wore a kindly smile.
Was this the result of her research?
Wu Shaluo tightened the fiery web into a net and flew into the air, raining down flaming feathers like meteorites. The howling flames descended densely, but two of Wen Ying's magic cards transformed into light, encasing him in an earthen sphere, leaving only a hollow space.
Seeing Wen Ying defend against the adult Scarlet Crow's flame magic with just two cards, the demons present were even more astonished.
"Is Wu Shaluo being serious here?"
"Wu Shaluo is an adult, yet his magic power is on par with a Mirror Demon's? How is that possible?"
"The might of the Large Fire Feather Formation seems fine. Wu Shaluo released a tremendous amount of magic power. The issue doesn't lie with him, but with Wen Ying!"
Demons possessed the ability to sense magic power. Judging the magnitude of the opponent's magic power and the potency of the spell based on the activity of the magical aura was as effortless for them as seeing the world with their eyes.
It was precisely because it was too easy that they began to doubt if they were the ones at fault.
Wu Shaluo, the demon himself, was also astonished. Hovering above the platform, he stared at Wen Ying standing unscathed amidst the crumbling earth ball below, disbelief and self-doubt clouding his gaze.
He subconsciously touched the face that Wen Ying had just kicked, the pain still lingering, confirming that this was not a dream.
Incredulously, Wu Shaluo said, "H-How can you defend against it so effortlessly?"
As he spoke, something suddenly shot out from beneath him, coiling around his ankle and dragging him down.
Wu Shaluo snapped back to reality, his eyes sharp as flames burst from his palm. He bent down to grab the silver strip wrapped around his ankle, but before he could burn it, the object suddenly became electrified, shocking Wu Shaluo completely.
The interplay of crimson flames and violet lightning swirled around Wu Shaluo.
Wen Ying flapped his bat-like wings, swiftly approaching. Paralyzed for a few seconds, Wu Shaluo could only rely on the passive firewall of flames from his body. Taking advantage of these few seconds, Wen Ying pulled out a pile of water-based magic cards and tossed them at Wu Shaluo in close proximity.
Even after the paralyzing effect wore off, Wu Shaluo found himself surrounded by various water spells.
All water-based magic, the beautiful blue rapidly engulfed the red. From within, Wu Shaluo's curses echoed loudly.
Yesterday's underdog, Wen Ying, seized the opportunity while Wu Shaluo was vulnerable. A silver-white branch snatched the cluster in mid-air, and soon, magical thorns sprouted from the ground.
Furious, Wu Shaluo bellowed curses, unleashing a sudden burst of flame that shattered the water spells and burned away the surrounding thorns. Without pausing, he charged straight at Wen Ying.
His nose almost twisted with rage, his head appeared to deform slightly, revealing hints of avian skull structure. His sharp, furious bird cries resonated through the air.
Indeed, an adult was not so easily dealt with, Wen Ying mused. However, the magical essence contained in his materials was substantial.
Wu Shaluo's fierce attacks concealed his inner panic.
Impossible, this can't be happening!
The sound of Wu Shaluo's attack piercing through the air grew increasingly fierce.
He had already reached adulthood. Why was Wen Ying still so composed? No, why was Wen Ying even standing?! He had unleashed the full might of his high demon's aura, yet the Mirror Demon Wen Ying remained indifferent!
Wen Ying deliberately prolonged the match to appear less formidable, in case the Devil King changed his mind. The torture Wu Shaluo endured as he was dragged along was excruciating.
He wasn't holding back; he had used his strongest power in human form!
Could it be that his strength hadn't stabilized after just reaching adulthood? But his magic power had clearly increased! His current spell power was several times greater than before!
On stage, Wu Shaluo was inwardly losing his mind and crumbling apart. Most of the demons watching from below weren't feeling much better.
Essence leaned toward Scarlet and asked mockingly, "Do you still regret being born after Wu Shaluo?"
Scarlet: "…Get lost."
On stage, Wen Ying had already begun using poison magic. As a Mirror Demon, it was absurd that he was proficient in both wood and poison magic.
When did his magic power become so immense?!!
It was reasonable to replicate the magic of an upper-class demon before they reached adulthood. But now that Wu Shaluo had matured, Wen Ying could still copy his spells without much loss in power, which was utterly absurd.
Where did he get so much magical energy from?
Not to mention his physical strength – Wen Ying had actually withstood a direct kick from an adult Scarlet Crow with his body!
Many demons wore dazed expressions.
The Demon King's eyes flickered with contemplation. Was this the foundation of Wen Ying's confidence in challenging him for a hundred years? Defeating an upper-class demon fresh out of adolescence was indeed impressive, but it was far from enough to defy all the established demon clans.
He glanced covertly at Aruda. He hadn't heard of any demons bred beyond common understanding by Aruda before. The Demon King tended to believe that such a miracle only occurred in Wen Ying, who was part angel.
Beros looked smugly at the exhilarated Mirror Demon on stage. His expression remained indifferent, but his entire being exuded a proud and joyful aura.
This was the demon he adored! No demon would ever mock him again for choosing a weak one.
Although he loved Wen Ying, Beros also wanted to uphold the pride he had held since childhood.
Muershi grumbled in jest, "Seems like adulthood isn't the time for a counterattack yet. Everyone will have to wait a little longer."
Continuing their cultivation after reaching adulthood.
The devils of Class One wore grim expressions, as if dark clouds had cast a shadow over their spirits. Their hopes, which were so close to being realized, had been shattered, leaving them deflated. It wasn't just Class One; the students from other devilish classes felt the same way.
Hope had seemed within reach, only to be crushed at the last moment.
"Is he really a Mirror Devil?"
"We did speculate that he might have the blood of other powerful devils, maybe even an angel's bloodline counts?"
"But he's already an adult!"
Devils also received information from the Human Realm and were well-informed about recent major events there.
"Perhaps the growth patterns of mixed-blood devils are different from ours?"
