    Chapter 289: The Queen Ant

The direction connected to the object in his hand consistently led within Mu City. There was a high probability that the Ant King or the Queen Ant was located there.

The Church's headquarters was in Asafa, while the Ant King or Queen Ant was in Mu City. At first, it seemed unbelievable, but upon closer thought, it made perfect sense.

Mu City was his home, and many of his relatives still lived there. The Church had a deep grudge against him, so placing the boss in Mu City was a reasonable move.

    "Wen Ying cursed softly.

Beros scanned their surroundings. "I don't sense any particularly strong magical presence."

Wen Ying spoke with a hoarse voice, "They might have buried the Ant King deep underground."

Upon hearing this, Beros found the situation tricky. This area wasn't an uninhabited zone. If it were, they could simply blast the ground open for a look.

Wen Ying picked up his phone.

Beros asked, "Who are you calling?"

"Elgar," Wen Ying said, "It'll be faster to have the demonic soldiers stationed here search the area than for the two of us to do it alone."

Elgar promptly arrived with his troops and spread out according to the information provided by Wen Ying.

While dispatching them to search, Wen Ying himself was not idle, also looking for any suspicious spots.

As he searched, he debated whether he should ask his family and relatives to leave Mu City. After much deliberation, he decided against calling them.

Mu City was dangerous, but other places weren't necessarily safer. The entire world was in chaos; a safe zone in one moment could become a breeding ground for trouble the next.

After searching all night, Elgar informed Wen Ying that they had discovered an empty chamber beneath a nearby farm manor in Mu City. The soil layer had been excavated using earth magic, though the depth and size were yet to be determined. There was also a barrier that shielded it from magical detection.

    That had to be it.

Before following Elgar, Wen Ying considered his options and called home, asking them to gather Auntie's family and stay in a structurally stable location suitable for earthquake safety. He emphasized that they must not leave Wen Dingjue's side under any circumstances.

Listening to Wen Ying's calm instructions, Wen Qinxue sensed that something significant was about to happen, a heavy feeling weighing on her heart.

"Be sure to take care of your safety," she urged.

"Don't worry, Beros is right beside me."

With the presence of a renowned demon like Beros, Wen Qinxue and Lin Tianbao felt slightly reassured. The more fearsome the reputation, the better, as it ensured their safety in this situation.

Beros, overhearing their conversation, couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

Erga led them to a rural manor with a cave beneath the ground. It was just dawn, and there were no signs of life within the manor.

Scanning the area with his demonic senses, Erga detected no human life. Along the pebbled path, there was a hole about six to seven meters wide.

"Lord Wen Ying, Lord Beros, that hole was dug by my subordinate after discovering unusual activity in the soil," explained Erga. "About thirty meters down from here, there's a vast underground chamber."

Wen Ying observed the entrance for a few seconds before leaping in without hesitation. Beros followed closely behind.

"Lord Erga, should we go down too?" asked a demonic soldier standing nearby.

Erga nodded, preparing to jump when he sensed a tremendous surge of magical power. His surprise turned to astonishment as two demons emerged from the hole – the Mirror Demon who had just jumped in and the Hellhound.

He noticed that they hadn't flown up on their own accord but had been blown back by a powerful air current.

The surrounding demonic soldiers grew alert, ready to engage in combat at any moment.

"Lord Boreas, what's happening down there?" Elgar hurriedly flew up to meet Boreas in mid-air.

Before Boreas could answer, the previously bright sky was swiftly consumed by gloom. Tumultuous black clouds rolled in, accompanied by crackling lightning. A bolt of lightning struck down directly.

That was merely an appetizer. Soon, countless bolts of lightning followed, creating a grand and intimidating spectacle. The ground cracked, dirt and rocks scattered, forcing the surrounding demons, including Wen Ying and Boreas, to scatter for cover.

The demons watched the scene before them with astonishment and solemnity.

Beneath the surface, something of immense magical power was surging upwards.

    "Boom!"

The earth crumbled, and a dark figure burst forth. Amidst the blue-purple electric flashes, a monstrous creature, resembling an infant's wail, pierced the sky with its shrill cries.

The intense sound waves made the demons on-site cover their ears, and even those in Mu City, on the brink of death, jolted upright in their beds.

At this hour, many were still asleep, only to be abruptly jolted out of bed.

Everyone was startled and eager to know what was happening. Quite a few hastily slung pre-packed backpacks over their shoulders or grabbed suitcases containing essential items, their expressions fraught with anxiety.

Without much confusion, almost everyone pinpointed the source of danger within seconds.

No one could overlook the apocalyptic weather in the west, with its incessant lightning strikes and thunderclaps. The chance of witnessing a single bolt of lightning was already rare, let alone the multitude of them descending upon the ground simultaneously in that direction.

Moreover, there was an immense source of magical energy emanating from there, cold and ravenous.

In this era where every citizen possesses a touch of magical talent, the intense fluctuations in magical power could be sensed by all. Many ordinary people, upon detecting that immense source of magic or rather, its intrusive presence in their minds, felt a chill run down their spines.

Despite the distance, they seemed to smell a thick, pungent scent of blood and were gripped by an overwhelming sense of indiscriminate targeting. They were being hunted, and their pursuer was ravenous – their fear could be sensed.

In a warehouse within Mu City, the Wen family members, along with several of the family's sons-in-law, were gathered. Outside, voices filled with panic and hurried inquiries echoed, accompanied by the hurried footsteps of many.

Wen Dingjue's bat-like wings emerged from behind him as he flew up to the warehouse's entrance. Peering through the glass panel above the door, he saw sand and dust swirling not too far away. The raging magical energy made even this ordinary Demon Mirror feel terrified, longing to flee as far away from here as possible.

"Grandfather, what's happening outside?" Wen Qinxue asked anxiously from below.

The warehouse doors were shut, preventing them from seeing the outside world.

Distant sounds made them both nervous and fearful.

Explosions, infant cries, the sensation of bloodshed – it was as if scenes from disaster movies had invaded reality. They had once been spectators watching actors in films panic at the unknown, but now they had become the ones living through the fear.

"There's a battle going on over there," Wen Dingjue's heart pounded wildly, his demonic instincts urging him to flee for safety. "I can sense Little Ying's magical aura."

Wen Qinxue and Lin Tianbao paled at the news.

Lin Tianbao's voice trembled with anxiety. "H-He's really b-bold... to venture into such danger."

Wen Dingjue's heart thumped like a drum, more terrified than he had been a hundred years ago when he was besieged by extremist radicals.

Mu City's disaster response coordinator quickly dialed a direct line to the central authority, urgently reporting the situation.

Exorcists who were not currently engaged in combating the ant-like creatures in other regions hurried towards Mu City.

Private vehicles hastily departed Mu City, causing the national highways and roads to soon become congested with traffic.

The shadow that emerged from beneath the ground was a somewhat plump ant, likely an ant queen.

The ant queen's entire body appeared to be made of stone, standing roughly six meters tall. Her back was adorned with broad, demonic bat-like wings.

Aside from her pair of ant eyes, a bizarre human female face was unexpectedly etched onto her forehead. It was from this face that the piercing infant cries originated.

Wen Ying sensed an immense hunger emanating from the creature. Its ravenous, icy gaze lingered hungrily upon him, as if it couldn't wait to devour him whole.

Indeed, the ant queen was impatient. She immediately let out a shrill, ear-splitting cry. Even with Wen Ying's magic forming a protective cloak around him, he felt as if his ears were bleeding. He wiped at them casually, only to find the crimson liquid to be blood.

He glanced at Beros, whose ears were also bleeding. Looking around at other demons nearby, some had blood flowing from all seven orifices.

Wen Ying's expression grew more somber. He knew this wouldn't be easy to handle, but he hadn't expected it to be this challenging. Wu Mixiu's trump card was indeed powerful enough to usher in an apocalypse.

"Everyone, step back," Elga froze, "But..."

Wen Ying also turned his head and said to Beros, "Step back as well."

Beros' red eyes locked onto Wen Ying, his gaze gradually becoming more violent and agitated, his aura terrifying.

Wen Ying met Beros' now grim expression head-on, "This is the Human Realm, you're too weakened. Obey."

Elgar: "??! ?" It was the first time he had heard someone dare to tell Beros to "obey," and Beros didn't even hit him.

What shocked him even more was that behind that demon mirror, three pairs of wings emerged one after another.

—Wings that belonged undeniably to an angel, not a demon!

Sighs of astonishment echoed among the surrounding demons.

Three pairs of pure white angelic wings radiated a gentle glow, captivating amidst the gloomy and oppressive sky.
