Chapter 291: Astonishment
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 291: Astonishment
Wu Mixiu had the power to coerce the Law into allowing him entry into the Human Realm, and Wen Ying had promptly utilized the fragments of the Law's power, engaging in a fierce battle with the Ant Queen that shook the heavens and earth.
Their battlefield was a terrifying scene of destruction, resembling the aftermath of a tornado and an earthquake. The demons who were originally there had retreated far away, as they couldn't afford to be caught in the crossfire.
The massive surge of magical energy could be felt anywhere within the Human Realm, causing widespread shock.
Wen Ying had inherited the power of the Law from Angel Su Yuan not long ago, and his body had yet to fully mature. As he fought the Ant Queen, he could only initially awe the onlooking demons with the radiance of an angel. But after that, he was covered in dust and blood, appearing defeated.
The Ant Queen wasn't in a better state, but as a creature of the Fallen Stone, she was tough-skinned, had high health points, and low pain sensitivity. Moreover, she cared nothing about her image. In the eyes of outsiders, she seemed to be overpowering Wen Ying.
This made those watching from afar even more solemn and anxious.
More than an hour had passed since the fight between Wen Ying and the Ant Queen began. Many powerful exorcists had already arrived at Mu City. Looking at the earth-shattering battle in the distance, the overwhelming aura was enough to deter them from approaching immediately.
The magical fluctuations emanating from there made their scalps tingle and their hearts tremble. The horrifying shockwaves produced by each collision of magic made them instinctively shudder, even the bravest among them. It was the instinctive retreat of creatures in the face of an absolute power gap, which their willpower barely restrained from turning into a flight response.
There were now many cameras equipped with special magic in the vicinity, capturing the scenes and transmitting them to various locations. Although the cameras couldn't convey the terrorizing pressure on-site, the overwhelming sense of a cinematic avalanche from the footage was enough to astonish viewers.
A circle of people, including retreating demons, had gathered around the battlefield from a distance. Lou Wangmiao, who had hurried over, spotted from afar the demonic soldiers stationed in Mu City attempting to stop Elgar and promptly approached.
Elgar sensed the rapid approach of an aura and sharply turned his head.
Upon seeing Lou Wangmiao, he didn't slow down but continued to walk closer until he was two meters away. He asked earnestly, "Do you know the identity of that creature?"
Elgar didn't answer immediately. After considering whether he could divulge the information, he said, "It's the queen of the Fallen Stone Ants."
Lou Wangmiao was taken aback and let out a soft gasp. The elderly, immortal-looking man watched the battle with great anxiety. As exorcists of their level, they possessed excellent eyesight, although they couldn't see the specific facial features, they could vaguely make out the outline. He felt that the white humanoid creature seemed to be suppressed by the ant queen.
On his way here, he had already learned that the white humanoid was Wen Ying. When they first found out, all of them on the plane had been as dumbfounded as he was.
A demon had grown angelic wings!
After arriving, they were even more stunned as the distinct aura of a law clearly drifted over—it was the power Wen Ying was using!
The power emitted by that demon with the magic mirror seemed to resonate subtly with heaven and earth. That demon wasn't just accepted by the laws, but it was also granted power by them!
Didn't the Law detest devils?
All the exorcists present, who could sense the aura of the Law due to their high levels, were questioning the very essence of their existence.
When it came to which type of exorcist found this situation hardest to accept, it was undoubtedly those from the Church of the Archangel. While non-Church affiliated exorcists were inwardly skeptical, they also glanced at their counterparts from the Church with a tacit understanding.
It wasn't out of schadenfreude; rather, there was a subtle sense of being spectators, even though they were part of the spectacle. They felt like guests in this drama, while the Church exorcists were the hosts.
This feeling stemmed from the usual arrogance of the Church's exorcists. These exorcist families, relying on political marriages and years of influence, had pushed others aside, behaving as if they were the rightful aristocracy, breeding resentment in many hearts.
Now, it seemed that the angel they believed in had been stolen by a devil. Amidst the perilous tension, the non-Church exorcists experienced a touch of mirthful relief.
Two high-ranking members of the Flowering Nation's Church were present—a Holy Son and a Holy Daughter. Sensing the detached gazes around them, their expressions turned grim.
"The Devilish Mirror used deceitful and despicable means to fool the Law and even toyed with the image of an angel," the Holy Son with almond-shaped eyes declared loudly for all to hear. "Our Church will not let this slide easily. The angel is enraged, and a divine oracle descends..."
Before the almond-eyed Holy Son could finish his sentence, a burst of black flames engulfed him. The crowd's vision blurred as the Holy Son vanished from his original spot. Ten meters away, he reappeared in the form of a nimble black hound, with black flames pressing down upon him, sinking their teeth into his shoulder.
Caught off guard by the ambush, the Holy Son didn't have time to activate a magic defense. His clothes instantly turned black from the flames, searing his skin. He let out a pained cry as the fire seeped into his shoulder, the intense pain forcing him to use his most powerful defense.
The nearby Holy Lady and her companions quickly reacted, immediately coming to An Meng's aid against the black flame hound.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, the elemental hound made of black flames was finally extinguished. The Plumeria-eyed Saint Son was now in a pitiful state, his shoulder skin gone, revealing patchy, dark red skin with glaring blisters.
The Plumeria-eyed Saint Son was out of immediate danger, causing the Holy Lady and the others to heave a sigh of relief. Filled with anger, they wanted to question the attacking demon, but when they saw the fiercely aggressive black-haired, red-eyed demon not far away, they dared not utter a single word despite their brewing indignation.
Their souls trembled under the demon's blood-red gaze. It felt as if any word spoken would provoke a life-threatening attack.
That demon genuinely intended to take their lives.
They stood on high alert. Boreas remained cold and indifferent, treating them no differently from ants on the roadside.
It was an exorcist from a non-Church faction who stepped in to mediate.
The academy teacher, An Meng, spoke with a composed voice, "There might have been a misunderstanding. They were merely showing too much respect for the angel, which led to their harsh words towards Wen Ying. Please, for my sake, try not to be too upset."
In the distance, fierce combat resounded, accompanied by strong winds that created an imposing scene. The black-haired Cerberus' clothes flapped wildly, his muscular figure standing tall amidst this backdrop, the scent of blood seemingly spreading in the air.
Everyone present held their breath in tension.
Humanity was already overwhelmed by the fell Stone Monsters, and at such a critical moment, with demons as adversaries, mankind would be plunged into a doomsday existence where each day might be their last.
After a long while, the young Cerberus, exuding a bloody aura of magic, chuckled mockingly but offered no explanation, leaving everyone on tenterhooks.
The battle in the distance grew increasingly intense.
The Saint with his almond-shaped eyes, filled with resentment, was supported by a few others. The Saintess used her healing magic to aid his recovery.
"The talk can wait until we're back," the Saintess whispered softly.
Humiliated in public like that, they were all in foul moods. If not for the fact that they couldn't defeat that Cerberus...
Persephone sensed the resentment and negative emotions from those behind him. The prospect of more delicious souls made his lips curl in anticipation. The Devil King's disguise spell had yet to expire, so he couldn't afford to break the facade just yet.
The Devil King, whose name had been mentioned by Persephone, wasn't in a much better mood. As he watched the scene transmitted from the Human Realm, his face was unusually grim.
His terrifying power wreaked havoc in the room, and the devils patrolling outside trembled, feeling stifled by an enemy that seemed like their nemesis.
The Devil King's magic destroyed the screen, and Wen Ying's image with angelic wings vanished from sight, but not from his mind.
The Demon King was both enraged and bewildered. His plans had never accounted for an angel appearing in the Human Realm while the demons were developing it. All his strategies were based on preventing angels from interfering with the demons' progress.
What on earth happened to Wen Ying? !
The Demon King paced back and forth in the room, his expression filled with disbelief. Even thousands of years ago, when that child of the Demon Mirror and an angel was born, it only displayed characteristics of the Demon Mirror, not a single trace of the angel's signature pure white wings!
Could it be that the records were wrong? Impossible. If there had indeed been a Demon Mirror with angelic features, it would have been documented. The problem must lie with Wen Ying.
There was definitely something amiss about that underground palace left behind by the angel. Wen Ying must have concealed something at the time.
How could a demon receive power from the laws of the universe? It was as inconceivable to demons as a human breathing underwater.
With no leads, the Demon King racked his brains until they nearly smoked, still unable to figure out what was happening with Wen Ying now. But he knew for certain that this little rascal had ulterior motives regarding his plans!
Similar disbelief spread among the well-informed upper-class demon clan leaders, with the Three-Headed Hellhound Clan Chief being the most devastated.
