Chapter 292: The Meeting
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 292: The Meeting
Before the Cerberus clan leader could recover, he received the summon from the Demon King, and two words appeared in his mind – it was over.
Not out of fear, but rather like a student caught cheating in an exam, he felt guilty and anxious.
Due to the significant changes occurring in the human realm, the powerful race leaders, who were supposed to stay in their territories, had been summoned back to the capital by the Demon King a day earlier to discuss matters crucial to the future of the demon realm.
The demons were currently unaware of the ants causing chaos in the human world, but that didn't stop them from sending troops under the guise of assistance to various locations in the human realm.
After the meeting, the race leaders remained in the capital for faster assembly and discussion in case of any emergencies. However, the Cerberus clan leader didn't want speed at this moment.
He had never been so afraid of the Demon King before, not even in his entire life. Normally, he wouldn't be this nervous about meeting him.
He absolutely didn't believe that Beros knew nothing about the situation. Given Beros' distinct attitude towards Wen Ying, it was impossible for him to be completely oblivious.
As Lennach walked towards the Demon King, his fists clenched tightly, wishing to give Beros a good beating right then.
The Demon King wasn't meeting him alone but had summoned the influential demons. In the conference room, many demons were already present. The moment Lennach, the Cerberus clan leader, pushed the door open, all eyes turned towards him, making the usually carefree and fearless Lennach feel uneasy.
Lennach cursed Beloros hundreds of times in his heart before mustering the courage to step inside.
The demons had yet to assemble, but the Devil King was already impatient. With a smile that wasn't quite a smile, he asked Lennach, "Did Beloros know about Wen Ying's current state beforehand?"
Lennach replied, "I don't know if he knew, but I was completely in the dark." He emphasized the words "in the dark" with particular strength.
The Devil King asked the demons present, "What do you all think?"
Silence fell upon the scene as everyone pondered, unable to make up their minds. They were basically clueless about this matter.
Yan Yujing, the leader of the malevolent bird clan, looked at the Fairy Clan's Witch Chief, Wiye, and said, "Wiye, do you have any thoughts?"
Wiye appeared paler than usual. She spoke slowly, "I can't bear to look at him."
The eyes of the demons on the scene focused.
Wiye coughed and said, "The laws conceal his past and future. I only caught a glimpse before my powers recoiled."
Lennach probed curiously, "What did you see?"
Witchr looked at Lennach with an unsettling gaze that stirred ominous premonitions within the latter. Witchr spoke in a subtle yet resolute tone, "I saw Berros."
Lennach exclaimed, "!" His scalp tingled, and he broke out in a light sweat.
Lennach forced a smile, "Berros has always been by Wen Ying's side. It's not unusual for you to see him."
A flicker of interest flashed in the Chief of the Malevolent Birds' eyes as she purposely hinted at something else, "Whatever Witchr wants to see now must be significant. Her encounter with Berros couldn't have been coincidental, right?"
Lennach turned to her sharply, his gaze terrifying.
The Demon King rapped on the table. "Do you all recall what I declared earlier? I've appointed Wen Ying as the next successor to the throne."
He shared with the assembled demons Wen Ying's audacious plan of living for a hundred years.
The Merfolk Clan Chief adopted a disdainful tone. "Putting aside whether or not we can accept him using angelic abilities, even thousands of years ago, no angel was capable of single-handedly defeating all the upper-rank demon clan leaders. There's no need to be overly concerned."
Yan Yujing spoke with hidden meaning, "But what if one of the upper-rank demon clans were to stand alongside Wen Ying?"
Lennach felt everyone's eyes turn to him again, making his eyelids twitch. How had the topic swung back to Berros, even expanding to encompass the entire Cerberus clan?
The Wicked Birds are such an odious demonic race. How have they not been eradicated yet?
"Lennach here is the clan leader," he practically offered his heart to them, "and I'm absolutely on your side..."
The Nine-Tailed Fox Clan Leader interjected with a tone that was initially jovial but then turned solemn, "Forget a hundred years, even ten would be a problem. The idea of an angel becoming a Demon King, for any plan, would be hard for everyone to accept."
The flood dragon clan leader spoke with a resonant voice, brimming with a predatory interest, "So, Lord Demon King, should we revise our plan? Should we invade the Human Realm with force?"
The Succubus Clan Leader's voice was soft and alluring, "Why don't we have Beros inform us first about Wen Ying's progress? Wen Ying's angelic powers likely haven't reached their peak yet."
All eyes turned once more to the Hellhound Clan Chief.
Lennach: "..." Why did the conversation suddenly involve them again? He now found the succubus as irritating as the malefic birds.
In the Human Realm —
The battle between Wen Ying and the Ant Queen was still ongoing, though it was nearing its conclusion.
The land was in utter disarray, with catastrophic sights that stunned onlookers. The battlefield now resembled a calamity worse than any natural disaster. Scanning the area, one could hardly find an intact tree in this suburb. Short vegetation had been uprooted and buried beneath the soil. The ground was covered with ice spreading and flames burning separately, dotted with numerous craters. In some areas, the ground had sunk significantly, filled with insect corpses.
Frenzied traces of magic lingered everywhere, turning the area into a forbidden zone one by one. In mid-air, silver-white branches danced wildly like octopus tentacles rising from the depths of the sea, attacking the ant queen whose wings had been halved.
Wen Ying panted heavily. His wings were almost too weak to lift him, and the ant queen was on her last breath, yet that breath persisted stubbornly. Wen Ying was both anxious and furious.
Perseus wanted to lend a hand, but as soon as he entered the battlefield, the power of the local laws suppressed his strength, forcing him to retreat in humiliation.
Finally, taking advantage of the time when the branches bound the ant queen, Wen Ying condensed a massive sword imbued with law power. It fell straight down from above the ant queen, impaling her head onto the ground. Her body writhed a few times before it stilled.
The ant queen's aura gradually dissipated. After catching his breath for a moment, Wen Ying slowly flew towards her.
Blood dripped from his arm.
Wen Ying's steps wavered. The giant sword dissipated into a shower of light. He walked to the top of the ant queen's head and looked down. At the bottom, there was a mangled arm made of flesh and blood. With nothing left to conceal it, Wen Ying could clearly sense the aura emanating from the limb.
After becoming an angel, Wen Ying could sense his kind. That arm carried a faint trace of a similar aura.
Wen Ying lifted his head and closed his eyes to communicate with the law.
He was openly "complaining" to the law, using that arm as evidence.
Wu Mixiu: "..." Damn!
Beros approached and waited quietly beside Wen Ying.
The silent three-headed hellhound exuded an aura that discouraged others from approaching, warning the surrounding demons.
After such a long time, it was impossible for Lan Jiaying and the others not to arrive. Apart from Wu Shaluo, all the demons who had come to the human world to "study" were here, observing the angelic demon.
They instinctively felt hostility but were also confused.
Suddenly, a loud thunderclap echoed through the sky, followed by a fierce gust of wind, lightning, and thunder. Dead branches and leaves were swept up, and fine sand stung their faces.
Wen Ying opened his eyes in delight. Although his body was exhausted and his injuries painful, Wu Mixiu's hopes should be thoroughly dashed.
Even if he could descend, he wouldn't have any hands. One arm of the vessel was destroyed by Yun Lao, while the other was inside the Queen Ant's brain and was now also ruined.
Relaxing, Wen Ying leaned against the supportive Beross behind him. Beross, gazing at the blood-stained holy wings before him, felt a complicated mix of emotions. Catching sight of the demons nearby with their ambiguous expressions, his mood worsened.
Lan Jiaying approached to the closest distance that Beross could tolerate. With a complicated heart and a cold tone, he asked Wen Ying, "When did you become an angel?" He could swear on his hair that Wen Ying wasn't an angel before, at least not when they were at Lucifer Academy.
Wen Ying used Beross as support, his right eye blurry from the blood trickling down his head. With his left eye, he observed and weakly said, "In the underground palace."
He attempted to speak with a calm and steady voice, but his weakened state resulted in a particularly feeble tone.
Muershi immediately confirmed, "I knew something was off. There indeed is a problem."
Essence's rough and lethargic voice echoed, "I'm more curious about how Beross feels right now."
Beross glared at him, while Essence innocently shrugged his hands.
Scarlet rubbed his palms together in excitement, "He's an angel, so he won't be the next Devil King."
The surrounding demons looked at him silently, realizing that Scarlet had completely missed the point.
Lan Jiaying's phone rang, and there was a noticeable brightening in his eyes.
"Father."
Upon hearing the Devil King's words, the glimmer in Lan Jiaying's eyes dimmed, as if he had been deeply struck.
