Chapter 295 – Peeping
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 295 - Peeping
Wen Ying accepted Wei Ranfeng's friend request on the spot. As Wei Ranfeng looked up from his phone, he saw Wen Ying's enigmatic smile, causing a chill to run down his spine.
Wen Ying chuckled with a hint of suggestion, "We seem to have quite a connection."
Wei Ranfeng responded with an awkward laugh, "Yeah, we do seem to be quite fated." He smiled uneasily, estimating that Wen Ying had transformed into a demon just a few days or even the same day before he had visited their home.
That couple was quite the actors as well. At that time, he hadn't noticed any signs at all. Clearly, they knew that their son was a demon, yet they managed to feign ignorance and even gave stern expressions to the visitors.
Lin Tianbao and Wen Qinxue recognized this person. The young man, who was only wearing a black tank top, revealing his well-toned muscles, was the one who had shown up the day they had watched Wen Ying depart for the Demon Realm in a hurry.
At their level, they had thick skin. Upon noticing that Wei Ranfeng was observing them, their expressions remained unchanged.
The Disaster Department's team arrived swiftly and left just as quickly. A large group of people soon bade farewell and left.
Lin Tianbao and Wen Qinxue escorted them out and then returned to sit down.
They were aware of Boreas' sudden attack. Before entering, the couple had whispered a few words at the door.
The Cerberus seemed less indifferent to Wen Ying than they had initially assumed.
Wen Qinxue tactfully interjected, "So, that child..."
Perseus looked at her quizzically as Wen Ying covered his mouth with the back of his hand and coughed softly, "Mom, Perseus's hundredth birthday is almost here."
Wen Qinxue nearly split her smile, but she quickly recomposed herself, realizing that demonic ages didn't align with human ones.
Lin Tianbao suddenly recalled something and blurted out, "I remember demons don't... become adults until they're a hundred, right?"
Lin Tianbao's expression also faltered.
Wen Ying scratched his cheek with his index finger, saying somewhat sheepishly, "Perseus is indeed still... underage." The words 'underage' came out awkwardly and embarrassedly.
Perseus remained silent, not commenting on the matter. He was typically reserved in front of unfamiliar people and those he deemed weaker, but these two individuals were different from all previous encounters. Perseus was still unsure how to interact with them.
Both Wen Qinxue and Lin Tianbao felt awkward about Perseus's age. Knowing it was one thing, but seeing him and realizing he was still just a hundred years old was another. Many humans didn't even live to see a hundred, but for a demon, it was merely the age of maturity.
Lin Tianbao pondered for a moment and cautiously asked, "How do your family members feel about your relationship?" He was referring to Bellerophon, but if it weren't for the importance of the matter, he wouldn't have wanted to engage in conversation with this hellhound; it was too overwhelming.
The look in Bellerophon's eyes seemed ready to erupt into violence at any moment.
Wen Ying spoke up on Bellerophon's behalf, "His family didn't object." However, she didn't mention their approval either.
Wen Qinxue asked, "They didn't object even after knowing you're an angel?"
Wen Ying replied, "No."
Bellerophon looked at Wen Ying. Ever since Wen Ying's second-generation angel identity had been revealed, they had never returned to the Demon Realm. This lie was quite a stretch...
Wen Ying glanced at Bellerophon, who slowly nodded in response.
"That puts my mind at ease," Wen Qinxue genuinely sighed in relief. Demons were eternal enemies of angels, and it was distressing that such a melodramatic situation had befallen Wen Ying.
Seeing his parents' discomfort, Wen Ying took Bellerophon's hand and led him into their room.
As soon as Bellerophon entered, he noticed the array of items inside, causing his gaze to darken.
"Wen Ying mentioned, "Speaking of which, this is your first time at my place, right? I transformed into a demon right here last year."
Beros's attention was diverted.
"I encountered a low-level demon back then. It wanted to devour me and burned many of my limited edition dolls. In a fit of anger, I suddenly turned into a demon."
Beros replied, "... You loved those dolls that much?"
"I collected them with great effort," Wen Ying sat at the foot of his bed, gazing at the new cabinet. There weren't many dolls or peripherals inside, all added later on.
Beros's eyes wandered, a question lingering in his throat.
"Will you come with me tonight?" Wen Ying sat at the end of the bed, reaching out to hook Beros's hand.
Beros's hand curled slightly as he asked, "Do you want me to come along?"
"Has the Demon King looked for you while I was recuperating?"
Beros answered, "No."
Wen Ying blinked. "That's odd. Are you sure?"
"Not at all," Beros thought to himself. The Devil King had called him once, asking if Wen Ying truly liked him.
At the time, Beros had been waiting solemnly for the Devil King's interrogation or something similar. He never expected the Devil King to ask such a question about Wen Ying's feelings.
Beros answered honestly, confused. The Devil King verified this several times before hanging up.
It wasn't worth mentioning such a strange phone call to Wen Ying.
"You're just staying by my side while the other heir are busy commanding their own demonic legions to take advantage of the chaos in the human world and seize territories. Is that really okay?"
Beros studied Wen Ying for a few seconds before responding, "Aren't you holding the largest share?" He wasn't so love-struck that he would neglect his family's interests. Wen Ying was a second-generation angel, and in the future, his influence and authority in the human world would surpass all demons. The Mirror Demon Family wasn't particularly powerful, so even if Wen Ying favored them, they wouldn't gain much. Wouldn't the remaining benefits naturally fall into his hands?
As the heir of the Three-Headed Dog of Hell, he wouldn't let romance distract him from his family's interests.
Seeing Beros' silly expression, Wen Ying narrowed his eyes slightly. Beros looked away.
Wen Ying said with a hint of amusement, "All the upper-class demon families in the entire Devil Realm will be against me now, and they will be ten years from now, when I become the Devil King."
"I have other plans," Beros spoke with conviction. "I haven't been idle all this time."
In the Realm of Devils, at the Flame Mountain villa.
A lithe young devil with dark purple hair emerged from a misty hot spring pool. The water droplets on his body vanished as he walked, revealing a physique honed with lean muscles that was quickly draped in a robe.
The door to one of the rooms was pushed open by another devil, accompanied by violent coughing and blood splattering on the ground.
Muershi's eyes widened in shock as he rushed over to support Koroy, who had just come out of the room.
"So great a cost?" Muershi said in surprise. "Did you see anything?"
Koroy waved a hand, swaying unsteadily as he walked over to a stone chair. After a long while, he managed to say, "Let's not talk about it..."
Her voice still held a residue of shock, fear, and lingering dread.
"Did you see something or did you get backlash for not seeing anything?" Muershi stood before Koroy. "I heard that your clan leader didn't see anything and still got hit with backlash. You're different from her; you should have seen something, right?"
As Muershi spoke, his voice gradually softened. "After all, you're a rare male fairy witch."
"Typical of you to first ask if I saw anything," Koroy wiped the blood from his lips with a weary sigh, his tone tinged with frustration. "What's wrong with being male? I only have a slight connection with our male witch elf ancestors due to my gender."
Male witch elves were considered anomalies, and from a young age, his mother had forced him to dress as a girl. Apart from his mother, only the cunning and sinister Archbird had discovered his secret.
She was him.
"Although male witch elves are generally less powerful than females, that's precisely the case here," Muershi's lips curved upward. "The patriarch back then was also male."
The witch elf clan's crystal ball divination required a connection, and since this current patriarch was female and didn't have much contact with Wen Ying, she couldn't peer into the future obscured by the laws. But Koroy was different. Due to the scarcity of male witch elves, he could glimpse into the past related to that male patriarch from thousands of years ago.
Moreover, Koroy often interacted with Wen Ying, establishing many connections. Muershi felt that if his crystal ball couldn't reveal anything, the witch elf clan would truly be a waste.
Koroy gasped for air, covering his eyes with a trembling hand. "I saw... the King."
Muershi: "Huh?"
Recalling the image he'd seen through the crystal ball—the silver-white eyes gazing down from the throne—Koroy still trembled in fear.
Noticing Koroy's intense reaction, Muershi rephrased his question. "Choosing enemies or allies?"
Koroy clasped Muershi's hand, his voice weak but resolute and intense. "Comrade!"
Muershi was startled, prying Koroy's hand away from his skin as he stepped back. "Let's talk calmly, no need to startle each other."
His tone shifted, filled with doubt. "Does that guy really have the ability to single-handedly resist the entire upper echelon of demonic beings?"
"I didn't see it," Koroy replied. "In the future I saw, he was on the throne, and just his gaze made me fearful. I don't know where he obtained such immense power, but the outcome is certain."
Muershi pondered for a moment before winking mischievously. "Did you see Bellos?"
"Yes, he was beside the throne."
...
In a private room at the Mu City Auspicious Hotel, a group of people sat around a large round table. As two individuals entered, the atmosphere turned peculiar.
Whispers echoed within the room.
"Why has Bellos come here too?"
"Haven't they informed Wen Ying about this?"
"The... Pillow Talk Plan, as they called it, seems to have failed."
"Cough," Yan Liwen stood up, offering a friendly smile to the silver figure entering. "Please take a seat. We've taken up some of your time today, bothering you, someone who's not quite as young as us."
Beros scanned the room, recognizing the individuals from their files – high-ranking members of the Calamity Response Department, with representatives from the Association but none from the Church.
Wen Ying also noticed this and pulled out a chair, asking with a teasing tone, "Doesn't seem like there are any representatives from the Church here?"
Yan Liwen replied awkwardly, "They're... rather occupied."
"I'm an angel, yet they're not rushing over," Wen Ying remarked casually. "I heard their declaration that the Archangel they follow is a First Generation Angel, and Second Generations aren't within their scope of allegiance?"
The atmosphere in the room became somewhat tense.
"Hello, I'm Xiao Shengming, the head of the Information Center at the Calamity Response Department," said a man who appeared to be in his forties, with a somewhat receding hairline. "Their current situation is a bit chaotic – an internal conflict. Once they resolve their differences, they'll come to welcome you promptly."
The Church was currently divided, with the majority of its members rejecting Wen Ying, the Second Generation Angel, believing he was tainted by demonic blood and dishonored the angelic identity. It wasn't that they didn't want to rush over; they simply couldn't afford to confront him at the moment due to their lack of power.
A smaller fraction of the population was quite receptive to Wen Ying's identity as a second-generation angel, but their numbers were too small to hold any significant influence, and they were currently voicing their opinions fervently.
