Chapter 311 – The Only One
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 311 - The Only One
Decades ago? Wen Ying's mind instantly flashed back to Beros' previous words.
Beros had mentioned that the collar around his neck, the enchanted item with spatial storage abilities that resembled a collar, was given to him by his mother when he was young.
With his toes gripping the ground, Wen Ying seemed to understand why Beros' mother had given him that collar. It felt as if someone had browsed through his search history and records, making him wish he could escape to Mars that very night.
His cheeks flushed slightly, and he dared not meet Na Yi's gaze.
It was one thing for him to have feelings, but another for those feelings to be discovered by the other party's elders.
It was too awkward—!!!
He almost dug a hole in his shoe sole with his toes.
Na Yi remained unperturbed. The topic seemed to be just another business proposal being discussed by a public company, as her tone was formal, steady, and well-articulated.
"When Beros was young, I tested him many times and saw different futures."
Na Yi's voice was melodious, soothing Wen Ying's awkwardness. The content of her tale also effectively shifted his focus. Wen Ying felt as if he had uncovered some hidden historical secret.
Wen Ying's attention was entirely fixated on Na Yi's voice.
"In the futures I've seen, there are worlds torn by war and worlds at peace. Each pivotal event unfolds differently, creating divergent paths. There are also minor points that seem insignificant yet intricately connected," Na Yi explained, a faint disturbance creeping into her tone. "I don't resist war, but within those war-torn timelines, I've repeatedly witnessed Beros and an indistinct angel meeting their end together, without exception." A subtle ripple ran through her words. "That's why, after foreseeing events that would impact the history of the Demon Realm, I didn't report them to the Demon King."
"You appeared in all my prophetic visions, regardless of the destiny line. There was always a fleeting moment of your birth," Wen Ying held his breath involuntarily. If this powerful female demon had chosen to inform the Demon King, he might have been killed at birth.
He never expected to have had such a brush with death. The near-miss with the reaper sent shivers down his spine.
Na Yi studied Wen Ying. "In some destiny lines, there were multiple angels. Though I couldn't discern the face of the angel who perished alongside Beros each time, I noticed what piqued your interest."
"Interesting trinkets that altered the original course of fate, branching out into new possibilities," Wen Ying replied, slightly taken aback. "We were just discussing serious drama, how did we suddenly veer back into awkward melodrama?"
"Without those elements, your progress would be more arduous and not as swift," Na Yi said. "By the way, I wish to add some leverage to Perseus."
"In all the futures I've glimpsed, apart from you, he hasn't developed any other romantic interests. There probably isn't another demon who meets his criteria of both aesthetic appeal and strength."
Wen Ying: "… I do believe what you're saying." In the Demon Realm, there was indeed no other demon with white hair who could fight.
Na Yi's words made Wen Ying very happy.
"The reason I came today is to discuss a collaboration with you."
"Collaboration?"
Na Yi: "I won't reveal the futures I've seen to the Demon King or any other demons. But you must promise that in certain matters to come, your first choice for collaboration will be the Hellhound clan or the Demon Witch Fairy clan."
This wasn't an unreasonable request, so Wen Ying agreed readily. "Alright."
A faint smile seemed to play on Na Yi's otherwise tranquil face. "In that case, I'll take my leave."
Na Yi left.
Wen Ying recalled Na Yi's final expression as she looked at him, a thoughtful glint flickering in his eyes.
Soft footsteps approached from the side. Balor deliberately made no effort to conceal his presence as he walked over and asked casually, "What did my mother say to you?"
"She said that your future lover can only be me, no other demon," Wen Ying replied with a smile, turning his head.
Balor: "You already knew that without her saying it."
"But I'm still thrilled to hear a witch elf say so," Wen Ying said, running over to Balor in a few strides and pouncing onto him, hugging him joyfully.
"Said it before, don't be so affectionate in public," Balor caught Wen Ying firmly, scanning their surroundings. Good, no demons in sight.
Feeling that his mother's words to Wen Ying were not as simple as they seemed, Balor thought to himself.
"My mother is a top talent among the witch elf clan. If not for her marrying my father, she would have been the clan leader of this generation," Balor explained. "So anything she takes the trouble to come and tell you should be quite significant."
Na Yi's intention was likely to fan the flames of their relationship and make those two particular demon clans his top choices for cooperation.
However, Na Yi was a master seer. Perhaps her words today might even determine a critical point in history, who knew?
Wen Ying pondered for a moment, but not sensing any danger, he decided not to dwell on it further. Na Yi's words from earlier, about Beros having no other lovers besides him, kept echoing in his mind, and the curve of his lips refused to be suppressed.
He was genuinely in an incredibly good mood, extremely delighted.
"Hey, hey, didn't I tell you not to be so affectionate outside?" Beros complained. "Stop tugging at my collar, and don't pull on my earrings!"
"Stop rubbing against me!"
"Are you trying to entrap me? Luring me into a one-for-one deal?"
Beros felt immensely burdened when his beloved demon displayed such enthusiasm in public.
