Chapter 312 – Concealment
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 312 - Concealment
During the three days of the ranking competition, only on the first day did someone challenge Wen Ying. There were no more demons who dared to step up after that.
The rumor about Wen Ying plucking demons bald had spread. He plucked scales from those with scales and feathers from those with feathers – he basically did whatever he could, fully inheriting Aruda's habits, scaring the hell out of other demons.
Losing wasn't terrifying, but being plucked bald was. For example, the young adult from the Fallen Angel family – before he grew his feathers, his chances of finding a mate were ruined, and he even had to secretly strengthen himself socially.
On the second day, Wen Ying saw that there were no materials… No, no demons came to challenge him. He felt disappointed and regretful. After waiting some more and confirming that no demon intended to challenge him, Feng Luo declared him the first place in this semester's ranking competition.
The reward for this semester didn't include the opportunity to freely enter the human world. Instead, it consisted of various resources and treasures.
Wen Ying returned home with a gift bag to visit Aruda. He showed Aruda all the materials he had harvested from his classmates.
Aruda examined them one by one, occasionally picking them up to inspect them. He smiled with satisfaction. "Your technique for harvesting materials has improved. Previously, when you were plucking Phelios' scales, your technique wasn't proficient, causing much of the magic power on the scales to be lost. This time, they were well-preserved."
Wen Ying's eyes had initially shone brightly, but as he listened to Aruda's evaluation of his harvest, he gradually became hesitant to speak.
"Grandma, about my bloodline…"
Aluda interrupted him, his tone calm and mild. "Before you came to the Realm of Demons last year, Na Yi had visited."
Na Yi was none other than Belos's mother; she had actually come to Aluda to talk about him?
Wen Ying's eyes widened as he pressed on, "Grandmother, what did she say to you?"
With urgency in his voice, Wen Ying's question was met with Aluda's leisurely reply, "Does it matter what she said?"
Wen Ying hesitated, "She's a Demon Fairy, of course what she says is important."
After a pause, Wen Ying added, "I'm super curious about what she told you. Grandmother, please tell me." His voice took on a hint of coyness.
"You're still so childish even as an angel."
Aluda glanced at the bat wings behind Wen Ying; in the Realm of Demons, Wen Ying only displayed a pair of demonic bat wings.
Wen Ying defended himself confidently, "I'm only in my twenties anyway." By demonic standards, he was still an infant.
Looking at Wen Ying with a kind expression, Aluda spoke slowly, "Na Yi didn't say anything particularly special. She just told me that the successor who could satisfy me would come from the Human Realm."
"And furthermore, he will be the future Demon King, bringing about tremendous change to the Demon Realm," Wen Ying nearly choked on his saliva at Aruda's audacious tone and words.
Wen Ying cautiously asked, "Have you mentioned this to the Demon King?"
Aruda wore a mischievous grin. "Does the Demon King look like someone who would know about this?"
It seemed not. Suddenly, Wen Ying felt a great deal of sympathy for the Demon King, being kept in the dark and blindly charging into a wall.
Although he had not been abandoned by everyone, it appeared that there was still some truth to it.
Seems like being the monarch of the Demon Realm wasn't an easy job, Wen Ying mused. When he became the Demon King, he would have to take such issues seriously.
Hmm, reflecting on the failures of past Demon Kings to learn from their experiences.
The Demon King sneezed in his castle.
"How are things with Belos now?" Aruda asked.
"Aha?" Wen Ying was taken aback. "Things seem to be going well."
"That boy seems decent to me," Aruda said leisurely. "Na Yi mentioned taking extra care of their two clans, you know?"
Wen Ying nodded several times.
"You agreed to it?"
Wen Ying hesitantly nodded.
Aruda suddenly said, "There should be significantly fewer future Devil Kings from the Black Dragon Clan."
Wen Ying blinked in confusion, unsure where Aruda had drawn this conclusion. Was it because Na Yi asked him to look after the Cerberus and Fairy Demon clans? That seemed like a weak argument.
Aruda didn't continue on that topic and changed to another, so Wen Ying naturally didn't bring it up.
After spending a few days with Aruda and then frolicking with Beros, Wen Ying returned to the human realm.
While he was with Aruda, the latter had given him a few suggestions that Wen Ying found useful. Thus, he compiled a concrete plan and went to meet the Minister of Calamity Affairs.
He had grown accustomed to consulting Yan Liwen for matters involving humans. Thus, Wen Ying met with him in person.
In the conference room, as Wen Ying spoke, Yan Liwen's expression grew increasingly solemn. He interrupted, "Apologies, but I can't make this decision alone. I sincerely hope you could come again tomorrow. I want to invite others to discuss this together."
Wen Ying replied, "I initially thought it would be more convenient if you could make the call."
Yan Liwen let out a bitter laugh. "There are too many factors involved. It's not something I can decide on my own."
What Wen Ying had come to discuss today was akin to dropping a bomb, an extremely intense one. If successful, it would propel history forward by leaps and bounds, undoubtedly leaving a significant mark in the annals of history.
Yan Liwen ventured cautiously, "As for the Demon King...?"
"I'm confident he'll agree," Wen Ying said. He believed that if what Na Yi had seen in the future was bound to happen, then his current actions should proceed smoothly.
"In that case, I'll trouble you to come again tomorrow," Yan Liwen said. "I'll start contacting people right away. Excuse me."
Yan Liwen's calls reached influential figures across various sectors, setting off a flurry of activity among high-ranking officials and their staff, all without the knowledge of the general public.
