Chapter 314 – A Clever Plan
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 314 - A Clever Plan
"Wen Ying, what a coincidence, or were you waiting for me here on purpose?" Wen Ying turned around with a smile.
Phileas swam over slowly.
"I have something to discuss with you," Phileas emerged from the water, and his wet clothes dried quickly. "I heard that you're trying to bring humans into the academy." When Phileas mentioned 'the academy' at this moment, he was naturally referring to the Demon Academy.
"It seems that the secret-keeping abilities of those organizations in the Human Realm are still as porous as a sieve," Wen Ying shrugged. He hadn't expected anything else.
But he had intended for the demons to catch wind of it anyway.
Phileas understood, "So that's the case. Have you lost your mind?"
"I'm perfectly sane."
Phileas's gaze turned cold, "What else could it be if proposing such a preposterous idea isn't madness? The Devil Emperor would never agree to such a thing, and neither would anyone else consent to allowing humans into a demon school, let alone the Lucifer Academy."
Wen Ying was not surprised by Phileas's scolding tone. He pointed towards the other end of the passage, "What if we make it a condition that median demons can visit the Human Realm?"
Phileas widened his eyes, then looked at Wen Ying doubtfully, "You can decide on such matters?" Various dark thoughts emerged in his mind as the clarity in his eyes transformed into a hunter's gaze, his pupils gradually narrowing into vertical slits like an animal.
"Were you born yesterday?" Wen Ying shot Phileas a look that seemed to ask if he was stupid, "I'm not a Law, I just have the ability to communicate with it. If the Devil King agrees to this exchange, then I can inquire whether the Law approves. If it does, everyone will be happy."
Phileas: "…"
Wen Ying often did things beyond his expectations. Phileas had thought that Wen Ying could truly decide this time. His lips pressed together, and the cold merman exuded an aura of displeasure.
"I assume you have other matters to discuss with me?" Wen Ying blinked at Phileas, then swiftly moved closer to him, wrapping his arm around his shoulder. Lowering his voice, he asked, "Are you also interested in learning about the upcoming Demon Realm Cultural Street in Mu City?"
Although Phileas's clothes had been dried by magic, due to the merfolk's preference, the skin exposed through the holes in his shoulder felt moist to the touch.
Wen Ying felt his sleeve instantly dampen.
Phileas glanced at Wen Ying with a cold eye, deliberately lifting his long, thick tail. Wen Ying stumbled slightly, his hand instantly unable to reach Phileas's shoulder.
So what if your tail is long? Wen Ying looked up at Phileas, a swear word flashing through his mind. He still preferred Beros, who would consider his height.
Phileas crossed his arms and looked down at Wen Ying, his mood slightly improving. He spoke lazily, "We have our own means. You won't succeed in creating a place that easily restrains demons."
Wen Ying pondered his words, a glimmer of understanding flickering in his eyes. "You're representing them?" Phileas and the others must have had a private discussion beforehand.
Phileas didn't respond, neither confirming nor denying, simply standing there with his arms crossed, his expression haughty and indifferent.
"That street suits the Devil King's preferences," Wen Ying didn't look up at Phileas as he unfurled his bat wings and flew into the air. "People usually develop various feelings towards those they frequently interact with, be it affection or disdain."
Phileas was puzzled.
Wen Ying seemed to be muttering to himself, "Since none of you are going, I'll give Cerberus more space on that street. The Flowering Country's government tends to be more lenient towards peaceful races, and the overall human perception can influence the Law's judgment."
"So what?" Phileas' demeanor was dismissive.
Wen Ying smiled, his exquisite holy face suddenly taking on a devilish appearance. "Did I forget to mention that the Law's suppression of demonic power can be controlled on an individual basis?"
Phileas' scornful expression froze. Individual control... It couldn't be what he was thinking...
Wen Ying stroked his chin, his tone mocking. "In other words, Bellerophon will soon be able to directly visit the human world in his true form to play with me."
This was merely a superficial matter; many issues involving racial interests were hidden behind this information.
Boros's ability to go implied that many of the Hellhounds, his clan, could also venture into the human realm, a race capable of seizing vast territories and resources there.
Phelous's face was almost contorted with curses, his eyes bulging in anger and disbelief.
Wen Ying didn't mention the Demoness or Fairy tribe, only bringing up the Hellhounds, whose close relationship with him was obvious.
Demons were anything but united, Wen Ying knew this well. Once a rift appeared within a high-ranking or equal status family, other demons would actively widen it, seizing their lands and resources. What humans might do, demons would carry out even more relentlessly.
After all, demons were innately inclined towards plundering.
Wen Ying looked at Phelios with a warm smile, while the latter remained silent, his mind racing to process the immense amount of information hidden within Wen Ying's words.
The Flower Planting Country could be considered Wen Ying's stronghold. Phelios and his companions had no intention of developing there; they had already made contact with several nations outside the Flower Planting Country and planned to establish their influence in those territories.
The Demon Realm Culture Street existed in the Flower Planting Country, but they could replicate it in other countries as well.
However, they hadn't expected that Wen Ying had endowed the Demon Realm Culture Street in the Flower Planting Country with a unique attribute, one that they craved the most. Even a Devil King would find it hard to resist such a reward.
By managing their portion of the Demon Realm Culture Street effectively, they would gain more opportunities to send high-ranking demons to the Human Realm.
To demons, the vitality of humans is a precious treasure for power enhancement. If one demon race were to gain an advantage and occupy a significant portion of human territory and population, the balance of power in the demon world would certainly be reshuffled.
At least for the Black Dragon Clan, such a scenario was absolutely unacceptable. The Demon King could not refuse the clan's occupation of that cultural street in Mu City.
Wen Ying's mind raced as he formulated his plan. If the Demon King wanted to mentally conquer humans, then he would play along, but he would do so openly, fanning the flames.
Now, the demons who had pretended to be friendly to humans would have to pull out all the stops to genuinely win their affection. Even if they knew it was a scheme, they could not tolerate other demon races gaining more favor from humans than they did.
Any slight lag would put them at a considerable disadvantage in the competition for human-world resources.
In ordinary high schools, students might appear to be playing while secretly studying in secret; when it came to matters involving the future resources of their entire race, suspicion among them would undoubtedly escalate.
Even if all the demon races united and agreed not to secretly compete, as long as he remained Pluto's boyfriend, the other clans would be unable to stop wondering if he was secretly boosting the Hellhound's popularity.
It was a perfect deadlock, and Wen Ying chuckled wickedly like a villain when he conceived this plan. On paper, the plan seemed somewhat naive and idealistic, but its execution in reality wouldn't be as straightforward. However, having this general direction was sufficient.
Wen Ying withdrew gracefully, leaving Phales in a torment of demonic proportions. He proceeded to confront the Demon King, who swiftly succumbed to equal anguish. The smile on the latter's countenance faltered and waned, unable to withstand the sight of Wen Ying, as he yearned to end his existence with a single stroke of his blade.
The Devil King, similar to Phileas, initially held contempt for the construction of the Demon Realm Cultural Street in Mu City. Upon Wen Ying's "well-intentioned" reminder about what the street was connected to, the Devil King pondered for a few seconds, his expression twisting so fiercely that he almost took on a half-dragon form.
The fusion of a human head with a dragon's was particularly sanity-diminishing, exerting a tremendous visual impact. The grotesque sight, coupled with an oppressive terror, would send ordinary demons into a chilling abyss, leaving them shivering with fear.
Wen Ying maintained a composed and unperturbed expression, not daring to further provoke the Demon King.
The Demon King's half-dragon visage heaved out heavy breaths from its nostrils, eyes as large and daunting as bronze bells, exuding an aura of ferocity that sent shivers down divine spines.
