As this was the first time he encountered such a situation, Duan Jiayan was still in a daze as he watched Director Jiang storm over angrily. 

It was Lu Xingci who pulled his arm and started running with him in the opposite direction.

Duan Jiayan quickly reacted and hastened his footsteps, running alongside him.

Director Jiang never thought that the two students would run away as soon as he made his way over.

How guilty they must be! 

Anger rose in his heart as Director Jiang started giving chase. He frequently caught couples while on patrol and was very familiar with the routes these students will take as they escape. He took a shortcut in the garden and sure enough, almost caught up to them.

Duan Jiayan pulled Lu Xingci into a turn and suddenly realised something was not right. He shouted as he ran, “Lu Xingci! Why are we running?”

“Because Director Jiang,” Lu Xingci paused. “Thinks we are having an early romance?”

“We can just explain it to him?”

“How do you want to explain this?” Lu Xingci asked. “Another reflection essay on the flag-raising podium?”

Duan Jiayan also realised, in Director Jiang’s eyes, the both of them were already in an early romance. If they were to be caught again, it’ll be like they did not learn anything from the previous punishment, a mistake made twice, worthy of a heavier punishment.

Duan Jiayan sighed in his heart as Lu Xingci studied their surroundings. It was almost time for class ten to perform, to keep up this chase with Director Jiang was not ideal.

“Let’s run towards the stage—” 

Duan Jiayan also realised what was going on, “There’s a crowd there right? Let’s go go go!”

The garden’s exit was at Yi Zhong’s junior high section, even further than that was the sports hall, the stage is right beside it.

Duan Jiayan was not aware that Director Jiang had such high stamina. A mid-thirty-year-old man had been chasing them for the past ten minutes, even intermittently waving around his flashlight while threatening them to behave.

In order to reach the stage, one has to pass the auditorium.

The both of them picked up speed and Director Jiang was almost at his wit’s end. Somehow, from somewhere, he took out a loudspeaker and shouted as he ran, “The two boys in front! Stop! Stop! Stop right there!! Which class are you two from—”

For some strange reason after hearing this, Duan Jiayan started laughing maniacally.

Lu Xingci was not sure what he was so amused by but seeing him laugh so happily, the look in his eyes unconsciously got a little lighter. At the same time, he remembered to remind him, “Stop laughing, you might tire yourself out.” 

Duan Jiayan was laughing so hard, his tears were on the verge of falling, “A loudspeaker? How did he think of something like this, he sure is a genius— hahahahaha I can’t stop laughing…… My tummy hurts, help me Lu-ge……”

He watched as the boy took out his phone to record what was going on. He asked, “What’re you trying to do?”

Heipi was a little amazed, “Isn’t your girlfriend from San Zhong? Saozi is even chasing after our school’s cp?”

With the crowd here, it seems even if Director Jiang made his way over, he wouldn’t be able to tell them apart from the rest of the students here. Duan Jiayan saw him stopping and asked, “He’s gone?”

Duan Jiayan took a closer look and realised they were standing with their class ten classmates. 

Just then, he remembered that it was almost time for their class to perform. They were most probably standing backstage in preparation for that, Lu Xingci and him just so happened to run over then.

Lu Xingci looked around, “Where is she? I’ll go tell her we’re here.”

Chen Yue motioned with his chin, indicating a direction, “She’s there, beside the female host.”

After Lu Xingci went to look for Zhao Minjun, Duan Jiayan realised that the rest of his classmates had taken off their jacket, leaving only their costumes on and so he followed suit. 

Though it’s December, Duan Jiayan was not afraid of the cold and only wore a black baseball jacket over his costume. He liked to wear oversized clothes like this, looking a little casual and carefree, it also made him look slim.

As Lu Xingci made his way back, he just so happened to see Duan Jiayan hanging his baseball jacket on the metal pole nearby.

He was laughing over something with Chen Yue. Previously in the toilet, everyone had immediately put on their jacket after they were done changing so this was the first time Lu Xingci had a good look at how Duan Jiayan looked in the costume.

Like the others, Duan Jiayan had tucked his shirt into his black pants. His build was different from the other delicate omegas but because of how slim he was, he now looked even thinner. 

Under his narrow waist were a pair of long and straight legs.

Duan Jiayan’s hair and eyebrow colour were different from others. His flaxen hair made his skin look paler than it actually is. The stage lights illuminated his face, making him look both radiant and dazzling, he was exceedingly beautiful.

The entertainment committee member hurried everyone along, and the female host on stage started to say, “At times, we will feel like we’re all alone, that there are tall mountains and vast seas in front of us. The moment class ten was called, the audience below immediately got more energetic.

As he was making his way up the stage, Duan Jiayan’s whole body was hurting.

After they get on stage, everyone will be standing close to one another. As he was afraid his stress disorder would get worst, he decided to tell Lu Xingci beforehand that he will probably be touching him a little every now and then. 

He’ll either be touching his hand or grazing the back of his palm.

As Lu Xingci and him were already standing right beside each other, such small actions wouldn’t be especially noticeable.

After Duan Jiayan mentioned it to him, Lu Xingci nodded nonchalantly. After they finally got on stage, Duan Jiayan felt that the back of his hand was hurting and decided to touch the person beside him.

Only he did not touch the other’s hand, but the boy’s firm, muscular thigh. 

Duan Jiayan froze and before he could react, a hand reached out and held onto him.

They directly held hands instead.

Just then, Duan Jiayan managed to hear the shouts coming from Heipi and the gang. He originally paid no heed to what they way saying but there were so many eyes on them, so many people making jokes about them……

Duan Jiayan felt, this seems to be not quite how he envisioned it to be. 

“Does it still hurt?” The boy beside him kept his voice low and quiet, pricking into his ears.

They were already standing quite close to one another.

Even though Lu Xingci’s voice when talking was soft, his alpha pheromones were simply overwhelming. He seemed to be enveloped by that person.

The performance had yet to begin when a boy secretly laughed. 

“Lu-ge, why are you two holding hands?”

Duan Jiayan finally realised what’s wrong. All this time, Lu Xingci’s attitude had been very ambiguous.

Without waiting for him to come to a conclusion, the music started playing and so did the singing.

After the school festival was over, the ground was covered with a thin layer of snow.

This was the first snowfall in Ning City. The winter snow fell from night till morning for three days straight, resulting in both sides of the road being covered in a thick layer of snow.

With every step, one will be able to leave a grey footprint in the snow. 

After having his dinner, Duan Jiayan was in the classroom drinking a cup of hot milk tea with nothing to do.

It’ll soon be their nightly self-study period. The atmosphere in the classroom was relaxed, with an English song being played over the PA system. Song Yi was beside him playing a mobile game, as he played, he suddenly could not help laughing.

He looked at Duan Jiayan, and laughed again.

“No,” Lu Xingci went along with him good-naturedly. “They’re all talking nonsense.”

Finally, there was someone speaking up for him, Duan Jiayan knocked on Chen Yue’s table, “Do you hear that? Our Lu-ge said that what you guys are doing is called ‘spreading rumours’.”

Chen Yue smiled mischievously, “Of course he’ll go along with what you say.”

Song Yi fearlessly hooked Duan Jiayan’s chin and brazenly turned his face around, “With just one look, our Xiao-Duan can really be considered a big beauty.” 

Song Yi whispered. “It does seem to be a little seductive……”

Duan Jiayan put up with Song Yi’s actions, not wanting to act out against a fragile omega.

The song the school’s PA system was playing had reached its chorus.

With just one playful look from him, he’s in disarray. He had lost.

Lu Xingci looked him in the eyes and resigned himself to his fate, “You look the best.”
