Chapter 015: I Can Sew Clothes
"Xiao Zhou, come here, start by cutting the patient's clothes. He's got numerous wounds, so we need to address the external injuries first," Dr. Zhao instructed.
Zhou You approached and saw a man in a white shirt and dress pants lying on the sickbed. Although the white shirt was dirty and torn, it appeared tailored to fit, but who would dress like this while wandering around?
Without a word, Zhou You picked up the scissors and began cutting the expensive dress shirt and trousers. He glanced at the remaining underwear and asked, "Do you want these off too?"
Dr. Zhao was writing a prescription and casually replied, "Take everything off."
Zhou You used his index finger to lift the waistband of the man's underwear. The outer clothing was dirty and hard to distinguish, but the underwear was spotless. At a glance, it was evident the quality was excellent, indicating the man's financial status was likely good. Furthermore, he appeared alone in the forest, most probably a person of social stature.
Zhou You mentally said, "I apologize." Then, he went ahead and snipped off the underwear, inadvertently glimpsing the man's private area. He commented, "Not bad, well-developed."
Zhou You observed the Exploration Team members in the morning light. They were tall, robust, muscular men, which didn't quite align with his aesthetic preferences. This man's physique, however, was just right—muscular, symmetrical, without excessive exaggeration.
Dr. Zhao handed him a notebook and said, "Help with the records." He then began examining the patient. "Male patient, height 192 cm, weight approximately 90 kg, age around 30..."
Zhou You wrote while asking, "Is it necessary to record this information?"
"Oh, it's a professional habit. Not documenting them makes the medical record feel incomplete."
"What was your previous profession?"
"Forensic doctor."
Zhou You's hand trembled, nearly causing a mistake in his handwriting. He calmly recorded the patient's injuries, after all, a forensic doctor was a forensic doctor, and at least they were a doctor, unlike his half-baked abilities.
After completing the medical record, Zhou You realized the man had over forty injuries all over his body. The most severe ones were on his back and legs, with wounds so deep they exposed bone. He had three broken ribs, surviving such injuries was truly remarkable.
"Start by cleaning his wounds. Leave the scratch on his back alone for now. I see the area around it has turned black, which might indicate poison on the animal's claws. Let me draw some blood for testing."
Zhou You willingly helped clean the wounds. After wiping the man's face clean, he was slightly surprised to discover that he was a handsome man with delicate features. If someone with the last name Ning saw him, they'd probably feel their heart skip a beat.
Zhou You applied medicine powder to the minor wounds and expertly inserted a needle for intravenous therapy. Since he had lost a lot of blood, let's start with glucose and saline.
"Were you a doctor before?" Dr. Zhao asked curiously, but then considering Zhou You's age, found it unlikely. When the catastrophe hit, Zhou You was probably still a student.
"No, I've been in the hospital a few times before. I picked up some basic nursing skills along the way."
"You could consider pursuing this path. Being a doctor is still a promising career. Even the most powerful individuals can get injured and need doctors. When we reach Yang City, I'll go take the medical practitioner's exam. I've heard the compensation is excellent."
Zhou You didn't plan to stay in Yang City. He intended to return and look for his parents and colleagues, hoping to see them again.
"I'll take it into consideration," he said offhandedly. Then, noticing Dr. Zhao lost in thought while looking at the instrument's data, he inquired, "Dr. Zhao, what's the matter?"
"Ah? Oh, I'm contemplating whether this is a virus or something else. There are several peculiar components in his blood that my equipment can't analyze."
Zhou You leaned in for a glance and widened his eyes, saying, "Doesn't seem like a virus, more like antibodies. Could it be that he once received some sort of antiviral vaccine?"
"During the period of the great disaster, everyone was receiving vaccinations every month. However, the speed of vaccine development couldn't keep up with the rate of virus mutations. Eventually, experts discovered that the antibodies produced by vaccines in the human body were very short-lived. Even if pharmaceutical companies increased vaccine production, they couldn't meet the demand. In the end, they simply gave up. At least, our bodies can't detect this substance."
"Perhaps wealthy individuals could afford high-end vaccines. Look at his various indicators; he clearly lost a significant amount of blood, yet his red blood cell count is normal. If this report were presented, no one would believe it belongs to a severely injured patient."
Dr. Zhao finished examining the data, nodded in astonishment, and remarked, "Indeed, his constitution is incredibly abnormal. Does that mean even if we do nothing, he would recover?"
Zhou You hadn't encountered such a case and wasn't very certain. Moreover, current human physiology was noticeably different from before. Perhaps some change had occurred that he wasn't aware of. He shook his head and said, "That's unclear. Maybe his body's recovery ability is especially strong due to modifications."
Dr. Zhao affirmed, "That's definite. People like Captain Li recover faster after injuries. Based on my diagnostic experience, the higher a person's martial skill, the stronger their recovery. Similarly, mutant beasts exhibit this trait as well."
"I once read in the news about an advanced mutant beast captured by an exploration team. It was severely injured and kept in a cage for research purposes. However, when the exploration team transported the mutant beast back, it recovered within a few days. The exploration team probably didn't anticipate that after it escaped, it killed over a dozen people. It was finally dealt with by General Shao Yuan-shuai, who happened to pass by."
Zhou You's knowledge of mutant beasts was limited. Aside from what he had seen, he knew very little else, and he wasn't aware that mutant beasts were also classified.
"Have you seen General Shao Yuan-shuai?" Zhou You was quite intrigued by this heroic figure that everyone talked about. There were high-ranking officers with the surname Shao in the military, but he didn't know who had ultimately risen to prominence.
"I've seen his silhouette in the news. General Shao never accepts interviews, and he wears a helmet when on missions. However, it's certain that he's quite young, probably just a few years older than you."
"So young?" Zhou You was taken aback. What kind of person could climb to the rank of marshal within a few years in the military? Could it be, as Zheng Cheng had suggested, that he was a genetically modified individual created in a laboratory?
