Chapter79
Ning Xufeng flattered, "If senior could introduce me, what's Zhou You in comparison? If not this time, then the next. As long as he's in Jiangnan base, I'll have a way to win him over."
"Alright, I'll take you to meet my master. Whether he accepts you as a disciple depends on your capabilities."
"Thank you, senior. It's fortunate to reunite after so many years." Ning Xufeng never expected to encounter his university senior in the Jiangnan military district. Despite the years, recognition was instant.
His senior was now the lead disciple of the Heavy Sword Sect, under the leadership of Master Hu Shi'en. The sect was the largest in the Jiangnan base, with half the leaders originating from it. Being accepted as a disciple by Master Hu would ensure a smooth path in the district for him.
"What does Master Hu fancy? Surely one person isn't enough. Sadly, I haven't saved much over the years and can't afford lavish gifts."
"Rest assured, what my master values most in disciples are talent and compatibility. He's got plenty of riches. All you need to do is make him fond of you."
Zhou You became increasingly curious about this old sect leader. Ning Xufeng looked quite ordinary, and his aptitude was nothing special. How could such a person be worth Zhou You's respect? Furthermore, Ning had disciples who abducted people on his behalf. The people who had gone missing in the military zone might have been the work of Ning's senior disciple. How could such a man be a role model as a master?
"Let's move. It's safer to transport him out at night. But are you sure you want to do this? Once he's gone, he won't be coming back. Aren't you afraid your captain will find out?"
Ning Xufeng said with a malicious tone, "We've already parted ways. Who cares about their fate? I'll imitate Li Yunxi's handwriting and write a letter to Zhou You. If there's any suspicion, it should fall on him."
"Thinking of all these details in such a short time, you truly are a talent."
Zhou You had originally planned to rescue the abducted person immediately, but he changed his mind. He wanted to visit the Heavy Sword Sect and see what kind of person the reputed Sect Leader Hu is.
The two of them quickly left the house and got into a car. Zhou You lightly landed on the car's roof, positioning himself comfortably, and they smoothly left the military zone.
With such lax security, it's no wonder there are inside jobs. Even if a mutated beast were to enter, probably no one would notice.
Shao Qi returned to his room in the early morning. He had met many people throughout the day, held discussions, and even finalized a deal. Coming to the Jiangnan base as Mr. Shao, he had to act the part.
He entered his room quietly and noticed the absence of Zhou You's breathing. Turning on the light, he saw only the little white tiger, sprawled out and snoring on the bed, with no sign of Zhou You.
Shao Qi wasn't concerned about Zhou You's safety. And with the tiger still here, Zhou You couldn't have left alone. So, he washed up and went to bed.
The white tiger, with its fur standing on end, jumped up and snarled at him. Shao Qi settled down, closed his eyes, and said, "If you don't want to sleep on the bed, sleep on the floor. Don't disturb my rest."
The little white tiger crouched low, retreating step by step until it lay down at the foot of the bed. This human seemed terrifying. The tiger missed Zhou You.
Zhou You, lying on the car's roof, was chilled by the cold wind during the journey. His face and hands were almost frozen. Only when the car entered an estate did he jump down in advance.
"We're here. This is the Heavy Sword Sect. My master should still be awake at this time. Let's head straight there."
The estate was designed in an antique style, with galleries, pavilions, bridges, and streams. It looked as elegant as a southern garden, except for the lack of flowers and trees.
They walked through courtyards and finally stopped in front of a two-story Chinese-style building. "Master, your disciple has returned. Is it convenient to receive a guest?"
Lights came on inside, and the door opened automatically. Seeing this, Ning Xufeng happily followed his senior disciple inside.
Zhou You hid behind an artificial rockery in the courtyard, debating whether to climb onto the roof to eavesdrop. Occasionally, beams of light passed over the estate, suggesting surveillance of the surroundings.
Once the door closed, Ning Xufeng placed the sack on the ground, and both he and his senior knelt, performing three kowtows. His senior then said, "Master, this is a junior from my college days. I happened to run into him at the Jiangnan military base. He has brought a gift for you."
Ning Xufeng sneaked a glance at the esteemed Sect Leader Hu, sitting in a superior position. He saw a short, thin old man with a long beard, eyes closed, leaning back in his chair. The leader responded with a slight nod, "I'm aware. The previous few you sent were inadequate. Dispose of them."
The senior disciple shivered slightly before replying, "Yes, Master. I'll handle it." He patted Ning Xufeng reassuringly on the shoulder, but after he left, Ning felt as though he was in a freezer, regretting his impulsive decision to come.
Sect Leader Hu opened his eyes, glanced at Ning Xufeng, and then closed them again. In a deep voice, he asked, "You wish to become my disciple?"
"Yes, I've long admired the reputation of Sect Leader Hu. Fortunately, during my visit to the Jiangnan base, I encountered my senior and requested him to bring me to meet you."
"Oh? And what gift have you brought me?"
Ning Xufeng quickly opened the sack to reveal an unconscious Li Yunxi. "She's one of our team members and has already reached the level of an advanced martial artist."
"There won't be any complications?" Sect Leader Hu got up from his seat and walked around Li Yunxi, his expression indifferent, clearly not too impressed.
Ning Xufeng hurriedly answered, "No, they won't know that I sneaked her out, and she's unaware as well."
"Alright. Given your sincerity, you can join as a probationary disciple for now. Work hard and improve. Once you've shown progress, I'll consider formally taking you as my disciple. Since you and Ye Lipei are alumni, you can train under him."
Ning Xufeng was slightly disappointed. But being allowed to join was still luckier than most. He expressed his gratitude and bowed before leaving the room.
Once outside, he realized his clothes were soaked in cold sweat. The thought of Li Yunxi's fate made his stomach churn. Just then, he saw Ye Lipei leading several people from the backyard, pushing a cart. Upon closer inspection, several mutilated bodies lay on the cart, their eyes wide open in death, a chilling sight.
