A growl disrupted their conversation as a mutated hyena leaped over the barrier, charging directly at an armored vehicle.

Zhou You had never seen such a fearless mutated beast. He was familiar with the vehicle's toughness and was sure the collision would spell disaster for the creature.

The hyena was thrown back by the impact, scampering away with its tail between its legs.

The commotion attracted all the mutated beasts from the ranch. By the time they arrived, there was little prey left, only scraps and bones, insufficient to sate their hunger. Seeing humans, they excitedly gathered around.

"There's... there's a vehicle below. Are the reinforcements here?" whispered an employee from upstairs.

"But there's only one vehicle, and dozens of mutated beasts below. How can they handle that?" There used to be surveillance at the ranch. Last night, they watched the beasts hunt through the cameras, their legs trembling in fear. Eventually, the feed went dark, but the sounds of mastication echoed ominously. Some of the more faint-hearted staff fainted.

"What should we do? Should we let that person in? With all those beasts outside, he's doomed!" The building was made of stone and metal, and even the windows were bulletproof. As long as no advanced mutated beast forced its way in, they should be safe inside.

The one speaking was a keeper, but most people rejected his suggestion, "We can't open the door! If we do, the beasts will surely take advantage and rush in. We won't stand a chance."

"Exactly, he has an armored vehicle. He must be a warrior. We are relying on him to save us!"

The keeper murmured, "But how could he possibly kill all those mutated beasts?"

No one responded or even considered the question. They were helpless and could only hope for the best.

The armored vehicle was surrounded by the mutated beasts. They didn’t recklessly attack but systematically closed in. Those of weaker nerve would have fled by now.

Zhou You opened the sunroof, leaped onto the roof of the vehicle, and immediately, two fox-like beasts jumped at him from both sides.

With a laser gun in his left hand and a crossbow in his right, he fired both simultaneously, taking them down with a single shot each.

Most of the encroaching beasts were low-level mutations. Zhou You wasn't afraid and took the opportunity to hone his skills. He aimed for their weak points, taking each down as efficiently as possible.

From upstairs, seeing a slender young man emerge from the vehicle, many lost hope. The keeper even yelled out, "Young man, run! Go back and get reinforcements for us!"

But as the words left his mouth, the two fox-beasts were down. This young man was no ordinary fighter.

Zhou You shouted upwards, "Pull your head in! Shut the window!"

The others, seeing the open window, were terrified and quickly dragged the keeper inside, securing the window. They then pressed their faces to the glass to watch Zhou You fight.

    Chapter 070: So It's Him

"Oh my God, he kills those beasts faster than we'd kill a chicken."

"No surprise, he's using a laser gun."

"Such precision! He takes them down with a single shot from either hand. Do we have someone like him in our base?"

"Been living under a rock? I recognize him. His surname is Zhou. He's from out of town. Remember the guy who brought back an advanced mutated beast a few days ago? That's him." The ranch might be located outside the city, but they still had access to the base's network. Most of them had heard of this event.

"Ah! It's him! We're saved!" Their logic was simple: someone who can take down an advanced beast could easily handle these lesser ones, even though any single beast here could wipe them out.

While Zhou You's speed at dispatching the enemies was impressive, the rate at which the beasts gathered was even faster. More and more were attracted by the scent of blood.

The laser gun was potent but drained energy quickly. Half of his iron arrows were gone, and the surroundings of the armored vehicle were piled with bodies.

Zhou You jumped back into the vehicle, tossed his weapons aside, and backed the car out, looking for a more spacious battleground.

The beasts, seeing red, no longer cared about evaluating the human's strength. They just wanted to tear him apart and consume him. So, they all swarmed after the moving vehicle.

"He's gone? What do we do?" The people upstairs only saw the armored vehicle drive away, fearing Zhou You had abandoned them, their spirits plummeting.

"There are too many mutated creatures. He might have run out of ammo. Still, if he gets away, he'll surely send help," someone comforted themselves.

The same zookeeper, always the voice of reason, suggested, "With all the mutated creatures drawn away by him, shouldn't we seize this chance to drive out? The city isn't far from here, better than waiting around aimlessly."

"No, no, no! Are you mad? Just because there are no creatures here doesn't mean there aren't any outside. If we run into even one, we're all doomed!"

"Don't we still have security? They're armed too. Handling one or two low-level mutants should be no issue." The ranch's security forces were composed of veterans. While they couldn't match up to warriors, they were skilled with guns.

Only during cargo deliveries would the military deploy warriors for escort. Their time at the ranch was relatively safe; the base wouldn't allocate warriors to guard such a place.

Everyone disagreed with his suggestion, uncertain of the dangers outside. It seemed safer within the walls of the room.

"It's no use, with all that heavy snow out there, we can't possibly drive. Let's not entertain such thoughts," the room grew silent. The wait felt excruciatingly long until the distant sound of vehicles approached, drawing everyone back to the windows.

Zhou You was armed with a laser gun, the last from the armored vehicle. The remaining mutants, now terrified, had fled. This was the best time to evacuate.
