Chapter177
"The laser grid is too dense. Even with Zhou You's agility, he can't pass through. Shao Qi fired a shot at the grid's source but realized it was indestructible, remarking, "Wait, laser grids use up a lot of energy. They can't keep it on indefinitely."
Zhou You checked the time, realizing that nearly twenty minutes had passed since their entry. At this pace, escaping in an hour, let alone two, seemed improbable.
"Our earpieces are jammed. Can the visual feed still be transmitted to Cheng Suyan?"
"It should be possible. The recorder doesn't use an optical network but special transmission particles. Still, there could be a failure due to long distances or other factors."
Cheng Suyan could only view the feed without any audio. From his screen, he could clearly see the challenges encountered by both teams. Miao Miao's group, which entered the first basement floor, smoothly progressed through the corridors until stopped by a door. As Zhuo Hao booted up a computer, footsteps echoed from behind. Miao Miao and Qin Lifei instantly shifted into a defensive position.
At the same time, the metallic door in front of Zhuo Hao automatically opened. He had only typed one line of code. Sensing something amiss, he abruptly stood up, holding the computer in one hand and a gun in the other, forming a back-to-back stance with his teammates.
"Who designed this eerie place? Why does it feel so sinister?" Reaching this point without encountering a single lab made them question their preliminary plan.
Chapter 096 - Operation (Midway)
"Six ahead, ten behind. Engage!" Zhuo Hao shouted, instantaneously summoning a bulletproof shield in front of the trio and opening fire on the guards that appeared.
The hallway was lengthy, with guards emerging continuously from both sides. The trapped trio could only defend back-to-back.
"The shield will only last for another thirty seconds. Move inward together!" The three shifted synchronously, not leaving any gaps, and the shields provided impeccable protection. The opposing guards also wore armor, but the trio exclusively targeted unprotected areas, ensuring a perfect hit rate, leaving a trail of bodies on the ground.
Suddenly, a "snap" echoed from the ceiling. Zhuo Hao glanced up, spotting a hole from which an eight-barreled turret extended, aiming at them.
"Danger! Move faster!" Zhuo Hao yelled, leading the dash forward. Miao Miao and Qin Lifei followed closely. As the trio's shield shattered, they swiftly maneuvered through the hail of bullets, switching to melee weapons.
Miao Miao's whip lashed out, deflecting several bullets. Zhuo Hao, seizing the right moment, slashed, causing a chunk of the wall to disintegrate. Two guards were blown backward by the sheer force. Qin Lifei quickly reloaded and fired, with his bullets colliding with incoming projectiles, causing sparks upon impact.
Numerous traps suddenly activated on the damaged wall, releasing a flurry of arrows from every direction.
Seeing the activation, the guards emerging from behind retreated, giving way to avoid friendly fire from the arrows.
"Damn it! There are way too many traps here!" Miao Miao, leading the way, used her whip to knock down a set of arrows, urging Zhuo Hao and the other, "We're about ten meters away from the third door. Rush in!"
"Alright! You and I will handle the arrows; Old Qin, you deal with the bullets from both directions."
The trio had cooperated many times, their teamwork seamless. It took them a full minute to cross a mere ten meters. By the time they reached the door, the traps on the walls had ceased. It was unclear whether the arrows were depleted or if the sensors detected no presence.
The wall on the other side looked like a pincushion, full of arrows. Many were on the ground. If they were to exit this way later, it wouldn't be safe. The advantage was that the guards behind would be delayed for some time.
"Look, there are labs on both sides." It seemed they'd passed the first hurdle, entering the scientists' workspace. The security here was bound to be tighter.
After a painstaking wait, the lasers at Shao Qi's position finally stopped. The walls and floors were riddled with holes, each disturbingly deep. If hit, one would undoubtedly have thumb-sized bleeding wounds.
Zhou You inspected some holes and said, "It appears this is the last level. There's no lab below, or else they wouldn't dare use lasers here."
"Let's go and see what other tricks they have up their sleeves." Shao Qi, guns in hand, led the way. Li Hang hadn't expected it to be so thrilling; his heart raced with fear and excitement. As a technician, he seldom joined hunting parties.
Zhou You trailed behind, extending his psychic sense to cover a ten-meter radius. The corridor extended beyond that; all he could see were walls.
"The power of the lasers is formidable. It seems they believed this trap was enough for intruders, as no guards have shown up." Beyond the corridor, another door awaited. Li Hang swiftly unlocked it, taking much less time than before. Two minutes later, the door opened.
However, the moment it did, a volley of bullets flew out. Shao Qi yanked Li Hang behind him, twirling his gun to deflect the bullets.
Li Hang had a narrow escape, his legs wobbling with fright. Zhou You patted his shoulder, "Pack up your computer. We might not be able to protect you soon. Stay safe."
Li Hang nodded, understanding that their minimal expectation was for him to protect himself, not to fight.
Shao Qi quickly spotted about a dozen men approaching in rows of three. He threw a flash grenade and told his team, "Act in three seconds!"
The intensity of this grenade could blind someone temporarily. While Shao Qi and his team had protective goggles, the oncoming guards weren't so fortunate. The front row managed to shut their eyes in time, screaming and alerting their colleagues, "Shut your eyes!"
