"Captain, should we head out too? Our city defense team is responsible for the security. We can provide assistance if needed."

The captains voted unanimously. Half patrolled the city, some guarded the Heavy Sword Manor preparing to assist Zhou You, while the rest watched the various passages, ready to offer support.

As Li Yanqing and his companion left, no one hindered them. The only warning was, "Once you step through this door, your fate is not our concern."

Both Li Yanqing and Mi Ai were overjoyed, "It was so easy to leave the city! Why haven't we ever ventured out before?"

"Nonsense, would you dare to step out alone?"

Actually, the area around the base is relatively safe. Few mutated beasts approach, and those that do are eliminated by the city defense team. But no one can guarantee complete safety outside, so the average citizen without self-defense abilities wouldn't dare venture out.

Traces of the military could still be seen on the snow. Following these marks, the two quickly reached the vicinity of the waste disposal station. Although no one had been there, everyone knew of it.

"Is this the place? Really?" This was probably the thought of everyone who knew the location of the lab, including the soldiers present.

"They've been right under our noses all this time. Terrifying."

"Hush... We were ordered to assist the researchers here. It indicates this place was authorized by the military zone."

"Soldiers are meant to obey orders, but anyone with eyes can see where they should stand today. The citizens are watching."

The officer in charge was deeply troubled. On one side, he had military orders; on the other, public pressure. Whatever decision he made seemed wrong. Personally, everyone despised this lab that used live humans for experiments. Most test subjects needed to be strong-willed for successful experiments, making soldiers the prime choice.

This lab is so close to their military zone. No one knows if they might be the next one dragged onto the experiment table. Living under such a threat isn't pleasant.

Zhou You and his team had already killed hundreds of mutated beasts. These creatures were confined in different areas for various experiments. Most reportedly died, and those that survived underwent further mutations. So when Zhou You saw a room filled with bizarre mutated creatures, he couldn't help but curse.

Although they too killed mutated beasts, death was usually instantaneous. The experiments here were inhumane, treating humans and animals alike, all for some insignificant results.

"They're extracting aura from the air and injecting it into glass cages, claiming it accelerates their evolution. If successful, humans can use this method to hasten training and evolution," Lin Shuqing said, skeptical while looking at the beasts violently hitting the glass.

Zhou You immediately responded, "Extracting aura from the air is impossible. The so-called elixirs sold outside are not real; they are just refined from medicinal herbs. Wouldn't these mutated beasts suffocate in such a monotonous atmosphere?"

"That pipe over there is for oxygen. This batch of beasts must've been confined recently." Lin Shuqing once wanted a mutated beast for his experiments, but initially, he hadn't tested on humans.

"They're close to dying," Shao Qi cautioned.

Lin Shuqing looked at him curiously, "You've killed countless beasts, aren't you sympathetic?"

Shao Qi rolled his eyes and retorted, "We never torture animals. Only psychopaths do that."

Lin Shuqing laughed, "What's the difference? You kill beasts for materials, we kill for experimental data. Both for human survival. Who's more noble?"

Shao Qi paused, then nodded, "You have a point. We don't care about animal experiments, but we do care about human experiments."

Lin Shuqing's smile vanished, speechless. Of course, there'd be human experiments in such labs.

"As long as the nation and its laws still stand, some things must be fully enforced!"

"Where are your experimental results?" Zhou You inquired after not seeing any living "humans" during his tour. "Surely not all experiments failed?"

"Oh no!" Reminded by Zhou You, Lin Shuqing's expression darkened, "I remember Jiang Shun mentioned three perfect test subjects intended for higher-ups to view. He said that after seeing those three specimens, they'd definitely secure additional funding."

"What are they?"

"I didn't know, nor did I care. Had you not intruded, my experiments could've shaken the world," Lin Shuqing believed they hindered his path to success. Nevertheless, he had already accomplished most of his work and was confident of eventual success.

Shao Qi and Zhou You exchanged a glance. Shao Qi shut off the oxygen supply and exited the room, grabbing Lin Shuqing, demanding, "Where are the three test subjects? Take us to them."

Lin Shuqing had an answer, "In the basement, which serves as a storage. Both raw materials and finished products are kept there. As for their exact location, I'm not sure."

Shao Qi probed further, "Why couldn't they have been taken out? Would your leader leave something so vital behind?"

"Absolutely. Because they can't control these subjects. They lack independent thought, won't obey, and only seek to kill. Many died just to contain them. Otherwise, I wouldn't even have known about the three successful cases."

Chapter 100: Your Bodyguards Are Nearly Wiped Out

The door of the cold storage was repeatedly struck. The two subjects inside, oblivious to pain, threw their full force with each blow, eventually breaking it down.

Zhuo Hao and his two comrades hadn't defeated the long-clawed creature yet. Seeing two more, a chill ran down their spines.
