Chapter 4: Calling the Police
byChapter 4: Calling the Police
At this moment, the thug leader was hurting all over, and he recognized the girl who had beaten him as the same one from a month ago when they failed to catch her. He knew there was no room for leniency today. Ignoring the pain, he threatened, "You damn girl, if you ever dare to touch me again, I'll turn the world upside down just to find you. I'll treat your family and friends well, and make you regret crossing paths with me today."
Chu Yi's eyes were cold as she stared at the thug leader. "Well, we'll see if you have a future to cause trouble for me." Chu Yi stepped forward and gave the thugs a good beating, using a combination of punches and kicks, with the three thugs from before, including the thug leader, bearing the brunt of it.
This group of people had no idea how many innocent girls they had harmed, and it was possible that lives had been lost. If that was the case, then it was better to end their wicked lives.
"Ugh..."
"Ugh..."
"Ah, spare us, please!"
For a while, the alley was filled with cries of pain, accompanied by the faint sound of bones cracking.
Seeing Chu Yi becoming increasingly ruthless, Chen Qin and her friends hurriedly stepped forward to restrain her from attacking again. They grabbed her arms just as she was about to strike once more.
Chen Qin quickly said, "Chu Yi, that's enough. Please don't beat them to death. Let's call the police and have them deal with these bastards."
Wang Xue also held onto Chu Yi tightly, fearing that she might attack again. Even though she couldn't physically restrain Chu Yi due to her skills, she held her hand firmly and said, "Yes, Chu Yi, no matter what happened, we live in a society governed by the rule of law. Killing someone has consequences, and we should wait for the police to arrive."
Gu Meimei nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes, don't let these scumbags drag you down."
Looking at the thugs writhing on the ground, their faces bruised and battered, some clutching their thighs and legs, it was evident that several of them had likely suffered fractures.
Chu Yi was about to continue her assault...
"Paying with their lives..." Chu Yi didn't know if these thugs had taken someone's life, but her own life had been lost because of her arrival, and that truth might never be known. Thinking about this, her desire to continue fighting waned.
"Have you called the police?" Chu Yi withdrew her hand and asked calmly.
"Uh... I'm calling now." Gu Meimei promptly took out her phone and began dialing. After explaining the situation and providing the exact address, they waited for the police to arrive on the scene. After all, there was little they could do with the injured thugs in their current state, and with Chu Yi there, they felt safe.
After the danger had passed, Gu Meimei's mood relaxed, and she couldn't help but keep her eyes on Chu Yi. She was genuinely curious about how Chu Yi possessed such remarkable skills, effortlessly taking down a thug with a single kick. Her physical prowess seemed incredibly strong.
Facing the occasional glances from her three roommates, Chu Yi couldn't ignore them any longer. She asked, "What's wrong? Do I have something on my face?"
Gu Meimei chuckled, "No, no, we're just curious, hehe."
Wang Xue added, "Yeah, we're just curious about how skilled Chu Yi is. We've never noticed it before."
It's true that the previous Chu Yi looked as thin as a reed, as if she could be blown away by the wind at any moment. It was only this month that Chu Yi had gained some weight, but it was still hard for them to imagine how the little girl had transformed into a powerhouse. Hence, their curiosity.
Chu Yi knew she had exposed herself too much, but she had a way to handle it. "I used to work part-time at a Taekwondo club and a fitness center, learning a few moves from the coaches. You know, I often worked part-time alone until late at night, so having some self-defense skills made me feel safer."
This was indeed something the original Chu Yi had done as a part-time job. However, the original Chu Yi had never seriously learned these skills. Still, this explanation could serve as a reason why Chu Yi had such impressive combat abilities. Nobody could say that Chu Yi couldn't have improved through natural talent and practice.
The three of them thought about it and realized that Chu Yi had never relaxed. Having some martial arts skills was actually a good thing. For instance, in the situation they faced today, if they had Chu Yi's abilities, they wouldn't have to fear these thugs.
Gu Meimei had initially wanted to kick the thugs a few times for revenge, to avoid losing the opportunity once the police arrived. However, seeing the thugs writhing on the ground, covered in dirt from rolling around and spitting blood, she lost her interest. These damned bastards should be dealt with by the police.
"Beep, beep."
"Beep..."
The sound of police sirens came from the direction of the alley's entrance, and a group of officers in uniform soon appeared. Leading them was a middle-aged officer with a square face. He and the other officers approached Chu Yi and her friends.
As soon as they entered, the leading male officer, followed by the others, swiftly handcuffed the thugs.
"Ouch, ouch."
"Be gentle, you're going to break it."
The thugs cried out louder when touched by the police officers.
Officer Wu Guohua, with a square face, carefully examined the miserable thugs on the ground, then looked at the four seemingly fragile girls in front of him. He took out his identification and handed it over to Chu Yi and her group. "Hello, I'm Wu Guohua, the captain of the local police station. This is my identification. May I ask if you are the ones who called the police?"
Gu Meimei immediately stepped forward and said, "Yes, it was me. I'm Gu Meimei, a student at N University. These three are my roommates. My two roommates and I were on our way back to school from the intersection ahead when we were accosted by these thugs, who dragged us into this alley with malicious intentions. Fortunately, Chu Yi arrived in time, defeated these ruffians, and saved us." Gu Meimei pointed to the other three.
"What? You're saying she defeated all these guys?" A young police officer had just assisted one of the thugs nearby and was surprised when he heard Gu Meimei's words. He looked at the people she had pointed to and raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
Chu Yi, who looked like the smallest among the four of them, didn't seem like the kind of person who would use physical force. Hearing the young officer's question, the other police officers turned their attention to Chu Yi as well.
"Of course, Chu Yi has had training," Gu Meimei hurriedly explained when she saw the disbelief in the police officers' eyes.
"Alright, please accompany us to the police station for a statement," Officer Wu Guohua, holding his credentials, said to Chu Yi and her friends.
"Hey, Captain Wu, I think it might be necessary to take these people to the hospital first. Their condition doesn't look good," the young police officer who had spoken earlier suggested.
Initially, they had planned to handcuff them immediately, but when they tried to move the thugs, they cried out in pain and didn't cooperate. Looking at their painful expressions and the obvious swelling in their hands and legs, it was evident that they were seriously injured.
After the young police officer made his suggestion, he discreetly glanced at Chu Yi. Seeing her expressionless face, he didn't know what else to say. To be honest, he still couldn't believe that such a fragile-looking girl could inflict such serious injuries on five grown men.
Officer Wu Guohua looked at the thugs, noting their expressions of pain, which seemed genuine. He nodded in agreement, "Xiao Li, take a few officers and escort them to the hospital. I'll take these girls back to the station for statements."
After Officer Wu Guohua finished speaking, he looked at one of the police officers, who replied, "Yes, Captain." He then led a few others to support the injured thugs and headed toward the entrance of the alley.
Officer Wu Guohua turned to Chu Yi and her friends and said, "Let's go."
They got into a police car and headed to the police station to provide their statements.
Because Chu Yi was the last person to arrive, Gu Meimei and the others had already given their statements at the police station. Now, the police station's lobby was mostly empty, with only a few officers working, and Chu Yi sat there waiting.
Chu Yi was feeling bored when suddenly, a tap on her shoulder startled her. She turned to see the young police officer. "Is it my turn to give a statement?"
The young police officer chuckled, "No, not yet. I'm Officer Zhao Qing. Nice to meet you." Zhao Qing extended his hand for a handshake.
Looking at the extended hand, Chu Yi slowly reached out and shook it briefly before letting go. "Hello, I'm Chu Yi," she said, then looked at the young police officer, Zhao Qing.
Seeing Chu Yi didn't say anything else, Zhao Qing leaned in closer and asked quietly, "So, did you beat up those thugs? I'm really curious."
Chu Yi nodded, "Yes, I did. Why? Do I need to cover their medical expenses or something?"
Zhao Qing quickly waved his hand, "No, no, I'm just wondering where you learned these skills and became so skilled."
Zhao Qing was a police officer and had some martial arts training himself. He could see how badly injured the thugs were, and he was genuinely curious about how a girl like her had developed such combat abilities. He had just heard the statements of others about how she had taken down five grown men within minutes, and even the police station couldn't have resolved the situation that quickly with such skillful force.
Understanding his intention, Chu Yi gave the prepared answer, "A combination of talent and hard work. Anything else?"
In the interstellar era, everyone was a potential soldier, especially someone like Chu Yi, a mercenary. She was a highly educated graduate of a military academy, which made her eligible to join the military. However, she didn't want to be subject to the military's rules, which was why she became a freelance mercenary.
Zhao Qing didn't expect this response from Chu Yi and was momentarily taken aback. "Uh..."
At that moment, it was Chu Yi's turn to go in and give her statement, conveniently breaking the awkward atmosphere. Chu Yi explained the situation once more and briefly mentioned the incident of drugging the thugs a month ago. Of course, she didn't reveal the fact that the original Chu Yi had lost her life due to that incident.
After all, she was still alive here. How could she explain a resurrection or a body-swapping incident? So, she chose not to mention it. Chu Yi also inquired about the fate of the thugs. The police officer taking their statements only mentioned that they would check for any other criminal records based on the investigation results and then proceed with the case, which wouldn't happen so quickly.
Chu Yi felt a slight disappointment upon receiving this reply. However, she reminded herself that this world didn't have as much advanced technology as the interstellar era. Investigating cases relied heavily on manpower and was naturally slower and more challenging.
