Chapter 34 – Even the Classic of Mountains and Seas Would Find It Disgusting
byChapter 34 - Even the Classic of Mountains and Seas Would Find It Disgusting
Lin Ye mimicked Number 5's mouth movements, silently repeating the words.
The two characters Number 5 had said were... repeat offender!
"Number 4 is a repeat offender? There are other people's photos inside, right?" Lin Ye narrowed his eyes slightly, anger rising in his heart.
Number 5's fingers trembled uncontrollably as she nodded.
Shaking, she placed the camera on the massage chair and slapped Number 4. The burning pain on her left cheek filled her eyes with fury as she glared at him.
Lin Ye also felt that Number 4 deserved it, but he still stopped Number 5 from continuing to hit him. "Don't hurt yourself for something like this. It's not worth it."
The man with the beer belly, Number 1, who had fetched a towel from the convenience store, wrapped an ice pack in it and handed it to Number 5.
Number 5 took the towel and ice pack, applying it to her face, gasping as the cold stung. Indeed, it wasn't worth it—the triple backlash was too painful.
Looking down at Number 4, Lin Ye said, "If you're not a wolf, just wait for the police to come. Whatever's in this camera might land you in jail."
Number 4 kept his head lowered, his face concealed in shadows, making it impossible to discern his emotions.
Lin Ye sneered and continued, "However, you probably won't be seeing the police. How could they possibly catch you in Shan Hai Jing? Your actions go beyond mere stalking. Last night, while I was on my way to find someone with the skill given by the Miracle Merchant, I passed by the restroom and saw you sneaking out of the women's toilet. I guess those footprints Player 8 mentioned belong to you."
Such a creature would even bring bad luck to Shan Hai Jing; better off descending into hell swiftly.
After addressing Number 4, Lin Ye shifted his gaze to Wu Makui. "No need for pretense either. Your peaceful life is owed to my burden-bearing. Should I reveal your dirty secrets to everyone, so they understand?"
"You didn't forget how, without any evidence, you publicly slandered me with rumors of cheating, forcing me to take a year off school, right?"
"I've always been puzzled as to why you've repeatedly targeted me. What have I done to offend you?" Lin Ye approached Wu Makui but was blocked by Wu Jiali. Brushing aside her hand, he maintained a fierce stare at Wu Makui. "All the other teachers liked me, but you continually made things difficult for me."
Wu Makui, feeling guilty, averted her eyes from Lin Ye's and tugged on her daughter's wrist, gesturing for her to sit down.
Raising his head thoughtfully, Lin Ye said, "Could it be because I listed my parents' occupation as farmers on the parental information form?"
Wu Makui was strict with most students, except for one boy whose family owned a listed company.
Lin Ye, being lazy, had always written "farmer" for his parents' occupation since childhood. It spared him the trouble of filling in their workplace and position.
Lin Ye grinned, squinting his eyes. "You're amazing! You can grow up without eating grains. Why don't you share your secret to survival? It might help alleviate the food shortage problem!"
Wu Makui's neck turned red with anger, but he was unable to retort a single word.
Lin Ye even raised an eyebrow at Wu Makui, enjoying the sight of his frustration.
After teasing Wu Makui, Lin Ye felt much better. He returned to the main topic. "Putting aside my personal vendetta with Player 6, let me discuss why I can't be a Werewolf and why Player 6 can't be a Lucky Villager. Please ponder over these points. Also, Miracle Merchant, please stay hidden."
"Firstly, as the first speaker during the night, if I were a Werewolf, I would never claim to be a Lucky Villager. That lie would be too easy to expose."
"Secondly, although Player 6 also claimed to be a Lucky Villager, he did it differently from me. He jumped in place. If his Werewolf teammates didn't also claim to be a Lucky Villager, he wouldn't be able to claim as a Seer. Hence, he had no choice but to claim as a Lucky Villager on the spot."
"Thirdly, Player 6 didn't analyze the situation during the night at all. From his perspective, I, Player 3, am a Werewolf and could accurately target the Lucky Villager. Wouldn't that suggest there are multiple Werewolves? Yet, he didn't consider this possibility."
"It's highly likely that Player 4 is a Werewolf, and Player 6 is undoubtedly one too. Two Werewolves have already been identified. My vote will go to Player 6. That concludes my speech."
Lin Ye exhaled deeply, feeling a bit parched. Uncle 1 handed him a bottle of water. "Thank you."
Uncle 1 gave him a friendly smile.
"Player 2, please speak."
Jiang Yanzhi rose steadily and said, "I'm a civilian. Last night, I was with Player 3 the whole time until the Miracle Merchant asked us to open our eyes. He left for a brief moment then, but the rest of the time, we were together, making it impossible for me to commit any crime. Player 3 is the real lucky one, while Player 6 is a wolf who pretended to be a villager. Today, I'll vote for Player 6."
"Additionally..." Jiang Yanzhi turned to Player 5 and inquired, "I suspect there might be crucial information in this camera. Would you mind if I take a look?"
Player 5 was slightly taken aback but shook their head.
Taking up the camera, Jiang Yanzhi, as expected, found a significant photo. "This is a recent picture taken by Player 4. From this angle, it seems like it was shot from a crouching position in the women's restroom, capturing Player 8's lower leg and foot. As Player 8 mentioned earlier, strange patterns appeared on her calf. I wonder if the wolf's tool was the camera?"
Ruan Qingqing clenched her fists, walked over, took the camera from Jiang Yanzhi, and studied the photo carefully. Her lips trembled slightly as she nodded.
"That basically confirms that Player 4 is a wolf. We should vote one out and use the poison on another. That's all for my turn."
"Player 1, please speak."
"I think Player 3 has a higher probability of being the lucky one because the wolf wouldn't expose themselves at this point. Player 6 was investigated and either they'll confess or pretend to be a villager. There's no other choice. Scratching my neck, Player 1 continued, "If we have a free movement phase later, we can check the footprints in the restroom. If they match Player 4's, we'll know for sure. Plus, since Player 3 saw Player 4, their suspicion decreases. I suggest we use the poison on Player 4 and vote out Player 6."
"Player 10, please speak."
"Wow! Is this Werewolf game that simple? We've already exposed two wolves so quickly?" Player 10, with the energy of a child, said cheerfully, "I think everyone should avoid splitting votes and listen to the Witch's decision to avoid giving the wolves an opportunity."
Lin Ye understood this logic too, but he was worried that the wolves might accuse him of not voting against the claimed Lucky Player.
"Player 3 does seem like the real Lucky Player, so Player 2 is likely a good guy as well. That leaves the last wolf among Players 1, 5, 7, and 9." Player 10 paused for a moment, straightening his legs and placing his hands on his knees, appearing very well-behaved. "My intuition tells me that something seems off about Player 1. I suggest the Seer investigates them."
Lin Ye frowned. Intuition was like a brick, used wherever needed, but he didn't think Player 1 seemed like a villain.
"My turn is over."
"Please speak, Player 9."
Xu Wen glanced at Player 4. "Assuming the footprint in Player 4's room matches the one in the bathroom, they're confirmed as a wolf."
Moving to the center of the break area, Xu Wen spoke calmly, "Let's analyze a bilateral scenario. If Player 3 is a fake Lucky Player, then Player 2 must be a wolf. That makes 2, 3, and 4 three wolves. If Player 6 is the fake Lucky Player, then Players 4 and 6 are wolves, with one more wolf hiding among us."
"Personally, I lean towards Player 3 being the genuine Lucky Player. From their current statements, Players 2 and 3 seem to be aligned. Both want to poison Player 4, one finding a camera related to them and the other a crucial photo. They've essentially pushed Player 4 into the spotlight, so they can't be working together with Player 4. This contradicts the earlier assumption of Players 2, 3, and 4 being three wolves. Therefore, whether it's poisoning 4 and saving 6 or vice versa, I have no objections. Let the Witch make the final decision."
"Player 8, it's your turn to speak."
Ruan Qingqing took a deep breath but still couldn't calm down; her voice trembled slightly. "The part captured in that photograph matches the position of my scar. I can confirm that Player 4 is a wolf. We should vote out Player 4 first. As for whether Player 6 is poisoned, we'll see if they choose to court death. That's all from me."
This vial of poison was meant to intimidate the wolves and protect her life. She didn't want to use it so soon.
"The round of speeches is over. Please cast your votes."
Lin Ye was taken aback—there wasn't even a free-for-all discussion phase.
After a moment's hesitation, he voted for Player 6.
"Player 4 received 5 votes: Players 1, 5, 8, 9, and 10."
"Player 6 received 2 votes: Players 2 and 3."
"Player 3 received 3 votes: Players 4, 6, and 7."
"Player 4 is eliminated. Please leave a final message."
Player 4's eyes widened, and they opened their mouth, trying to say something but only managing stammered words. Before they could utter anything coherent, they were engulfed by a searing pain as if their body was being torn apart, crushed by immense force from both front and back.
"Clang!"
Amidst a crimson sky, no one in the lounge was spared.
The stench of blood instantly permeated the entire hall.
"Ugh—" Ruan Zhenzhen closed her eyes, wiped her face, and rushed to the bathroom. She leaned over the sink, heaving, almost vomiting up the remains of her previous night's meal.
Others hurried to the bathroom as well, some washing their hands, others wiping the blood off themselves, yet none of them uttered a single word.
With trembling hands, Lin Ye used a damp tissue to wipe the blood from his face and hair, but the stains on his clothes refused to budge.
Despite having witnessed numerous eliminations, Lin Ye had never seen such a gruesome sight before.
Jiang Yanzhi's warm palm pressed against Lin Ye's quivering shoulder, concern etched on his face. "Lin Ye..."
Lin Ye's lips were pale, and a drop of moisture trickled down his forehead. He felt that droplet slide from his brow, gliding slowly down the bridge of his nose.
Jiang Yanzhi wiped away the water droplet and showed it to Lin Ye. "It's not blood, don't be nervous. You're clean now."
"Is that so?" Lin Ye glanced down at the dark stains on both his and Jiang Yanzhi's coats.
"Snap!"
The lights above them flickered and went out, plunging everything into silence.
"Close your eyes when it's dark, wolves, open yours—"
Without hesitation, Lin Ye pulled Jiang Yanzhi into the restroom. The last stall had a toilet.
If the wolf was using the camera to target their victims, they just needed to hide where the wolf couldn't find them.
Lin Ye locked the door, crouched behind the toilet, and prayed it wouldn't collapse. He whispered, "Climb up, stand on the toilet seat."
Jiang Yanzhi hesitated for a moment before supporting himself on the walls on either side, sitting cross-legged on the toilet with his voice lowered. "Will this prevent us from being chosen by the wolf? Is the issue with the camera?"
"I think so," Lin Ye whispered back. "But I have a feeling there might be more than one camera involved."
Jiang Yanzhi held his phone, running his fingers over the camera lens on its back. His gaze turned intent. "A phone can take pictures too."
At that moment, a sound came from the entrance - it was the thud of a mop hitting the floor.
Arriving, Jiang Yanzhi deliberately placed the mop across the entrance. If anyone were to enter, the noise would inevitably alert them.
In the darkness, Lin Ye and Jiang Yanzhi's gazes met with unspoken understanding. They immediately fell silent, holding their breaths.
