Chapter 47: The Forty-Seventh Cup
byChapter 47: The Forty-Seventh Cup
The green snake's attack missed, and it raised its triangular head in confusion, looking around.
**Difficulty Level: Poison Museum (Dungeon)**
Team Seven had already taken the lead to open the dungeon—last time, everyone tested the Botanical Garden together, and surprisingly, they even dropped fragments. Everyone agreed that this was due to Jiou's luck as a mascot, so they followed tradition and had him open the dungeon again.
Jiou stood in front of the ticket booth with a face that said, "I've grown accustomed to life's unreasonable torment," staring at the ugly toad inside.
Jiou counted on his fingers and spoke dejectedly, "Twenty tickets."
The toad ticket seller, with its bizarre skin color, widened its eyes in disbelief and asked, "How many!"
Jiou's first reaction was that the ticket seller had an accent; his second was to instinctively step back three paces, shouting, "Everyone, get back! This thing can talk! It must have fragments!"
The members of Team Seven, who primarily relied on caution under their captain's leadership, quickly retreated, dragging their captain out of harm's way by his collar.
Yi Luo rolled down the window and looked at the toad ticket seller inside, whose eyes were almost popping out. He chuckled, "A frog as a ticket seller? This dungeon is quite fairy-tale-like."
Tang Yu smiled and reminded them, "It's a highly poisonous toad... "
Jiou reached out to stop her from elaborating further. He Wuning had already kicked open the door and stepped out, saying, "Just by looking at its color, you know it's not harmless."
He Wuning held Tang Hengdao, seemingly considering where to strike. He asked, "Is it just going to stay inside without coming out?"
Jiou was taken aback, "No, no, no! Usually, you buy tickets from it. One ticket per person. If you give it what it wants, it will let you pass. Otherwise, its attack power increases by 20%..."
He Wuning looked at the ticket seller. The toad stared back, turning its eyes and showing a greedy, malicious smile, "You want to buy tickets? How many?"
He Wuning glanced back at the car, which was stuffed full of people inside and out, making the pink milk tea van look like a smuggling ship filled with dungeon hitchhikers.
Xing Yue stuck his head out, "Count off!"
"1!" Yi Luo called out first.
"2!"
...
He Wuning turned around, "Twenty-two tickets."
Jiou warned, "Be careful! It speaks human language, so it definitely has fragments!"
Yi Luo turned to look at him affectionately, "I knew your luck was good. You found one with fragments right away. There might be more later."
"Jie jie." The toad emitted an inhuman villainous laugh, its bulging eyes scanning everyone present, "So, you think you can take the fragments from me?"
"Jie jie, twenty-two people, right? I'll take eleven lives for the tickets!" It showed a sinister smile, "Do you want to decide among yourselves, or should I choose?"
The atmosphere suddenly froze. In the next moment, He Wuning's knife stabbed through the ticket window.
The toad let out a strange cry. Jiou quietly found a good spot to watch the battle and whispered, "Actually, if you tell it you're not buying tickets, it will jump out and fight. But I guess you don't care."
He Wuning indeed didn't care. In his eyes, if the toad wasn't willing to come out of the small ticket window, it would be a bit troublesome but still manageable.
The brightly colored toad, which looked almost fake, broke through the ticket booth door and stood before them, snarling, "You're finished!"
The players ignored its threats and launched their attacks.
The toad ticket seller was a ranged attacker. Its tongue could drag any player into its mouth to eat them—under normal circumstances.
With over twenty players crowded around, the toad's tongue risked not returning if it stretched too far, so it had to target nearby players.
It had planned to wear them down, given its considerable health and a "Toxic Skin" trait that should poison anyone attacking it. However, it waited and waited, but the players showed no signs of being poisoned.
It cried out, "What's going on here?"
"Hmph." Yi Luo sat in the car, raising a cup of milk tea, "See this? We have buffs."
"Ten percent increase in defense, health, attack, spirit, and speed. Immunity to poisoning and paralysis effects, plus three percent life steal." Xing Yue grinned, revealing sharp canine teeth, looking more like a villain than the toad, "You're finished."
He returned the toad's words verbatim.
The toad tried to flee for a moment, "Are you cheating?"
In the next second, it was overwhelmed by attacks once more.
Qiang excitedly shouted, "Hit it! Hit it! Dad!"
He Wuning had already put away his knife and got into the car, sitting in the passenger seat with disinterest.
Yi Luo turned to look at him, "What's wrong?"
"Boring." He propped his chin up with his knife, "Don't they have anything else to do? Why do they have to follow us?"
Most of the combat department members were far above the dungeon's level, and with such a buffed-up group of twenty, beating a dungeon monster was not particularly challenging.
Yi Luo laughed, "This is both a blessing and a curse. Knowing your capabilities, they'll definitely want to protect you. I think these two classes will probably stick with us for a while."
He Wuning sighed, annoyed.
He was used to working alone and felt uncomfortable being surrounded by such a large group.
"If you want to act alone, it's not impossible." Yi Luo tapped the steering wheel, smiling, "Run away together?"
He Wuning looked at him expressionlessly. Yi Luo laughed, "If you say 'go,' we'll head straight for the second boss. What do you say?"
He Wuning hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly nodded slightly, "Go."
Q Sauce lamented with heartfelt regret, "Oh, my dear! You've let him take advantage of you verbally! It sounds like you've agreed to elope with him!"
Yi Luo turned the steering wheel fully and stepped on the gas, charging straight out. The other combatants watched in astonishment as he crashed through the ticket booth and sped towards the Poison Museum.
The toad shouted, "No driving inside the museum! Do you have any manners driving in a building?"
Xing Yue yelled after them, "He Wuning! Yi Luo! Where are you two going?"
Cao Wu remarked, "They planned to help, how funny, they don't even want help."
The pink milk tea van sped away. Xing Yue, furious, turned to glare at the toad, "Hurry up and finish it! Then chase after them!"
Toad: "..."
Can we show some respect to the dungeon bosses?
The milk tea van crashed into the museum, narrowly missing the second boss at the entrance. With metallic claws and a venomous stinger tail bristling with stiff hairs, it was a black scorpion with red highlights.
Being qualified to work in the Poison Museum, He Wuning assumed it was also venomous.
The scorpion's claws moved slightly, and it let out a laugh identical to the toad's, "Heh heh, you came so fast, guests. Would you like a tour guide service?"
Its tiny black eyes roamed over the two people in the milk tea van, its malice unhidden, "Just... one life, what do you say?"
Yi Luo looked surprised, "Wow, Jiou’s luck is amazing. Two bosses with shards in one dungeon? I bet the last one has one too?"
He Wuning nodded, "We can bring him along for the next dungeon too."
The tour guide scorpion grew slightly impatient, moving closer and peering into the van through the window, "Heh heh, are you scared stiff?"
He Wuning asked, "Do the monsters in this dungeon like to collect something first?"
"Yes," Yi Luo, who knew more about the dungeon than He Wuning, replied, "In the past, they usually wanted game currency. Only in the difficult level would they demand lives."
He Wuning chuckled lightly, "If they want money, they should be careful they have a life to spend it."
The scorpion, growing increasingly impatient, circled the milk tea van, its slender stinger tail gently nudging the vehicle, urging, "Have you decided? Do you want to buy it?"
Q Sauce cried out indignantly, "It’s touching my car!"
He Wuning raised an eyebrow, "Then invite it to taste a bullet."
He kicked open the door of the milk tea van, and the scorpion rejoiced, "Ah, you’re buying..."
But He Wuning had already plunged his knife into its mouthparts. Amidst the scorpion's angry cries of pain, He Wuning coldly replied, "Not buying."
Q Sauce leaped from the van to the roof, holding a heavy machine gun, shouting, "Dada da da!"
Yi Luo laughed, revving the milk tea van and knocking the scorpion high into the air as it tried to retaliate.
After emptying the magazine, Q Sauce shouted from the roof, "Remember this! Don’t touch my car! It’s very rude!"
It raised its hands, offering an international friendly gesture, though its short arms lacked fingers, making it look like it was simply raising both hands.
He Wuning curled the corner of his mouth, stepping on the scorpion's back and plunging his Tang dao deeply into the joint of its stinger—always tempting to disassemble these segmented creatures piece by piece.
Amidst the scorpion's wails, He Wuning cleanly severed its most threatening part, the venomous stinger tail. He twisted the blade, his gaze falling on its claws.
By the time Xing Yue and the others finished off the toad and rushed over, all they saw were the pieces neatly arranged on the ground in the shape of a scorpion, still not dissipated into light.
Xing Yue: "..."
