Under constant pressure from his parents, Ding Haijie was forced to resign from his job and return to his hometown, which he had left long ago. Under his father's strict supervision, he wasn’t even allowed to bid farewell to Wang Kaichen or pack his belongings—he was literally dragged away.

Wang Kaichen rushed out but found no trace of Ding Haijie. Instead, he was met with a barrage of harsh insults from Ding’s mother, who remained in the living room. After berating him, she took her son’s documents, laptop, and other valuables before leaving, refusing to take any of his clothes—she found them dirty.

Life back in his hometown was anything but easy. Ding’s parents paid no heed to his feelings, constantly setting up blind dates for him and forcing him to meet various women in an attempt to make him forget Wang Kaichen as quickly as possible.

The next day, Ding Haijie woke up early, dressed meticulously, and left the house. From that day on, he began pursuing Meng Tiange with fervent determination.

Flowers, dinner dates, movies—he tried every romantic gesture. At first, Meng Tiange was hesitant and reserved, but she was gradually moved by his sincerity. Before long, the two fell deeply in love.

Time flew by, and half a year later, on a bright and sunny day, Ding Haijie and Meng Tiange tied the knot. Friends and family gathered to celebrate; the wedding was full of joy.

Even Wang Kaichen, who had been absent for so long, showed up. Holding a glass of wine, he approached Ding Haijie and Meng Tiange with a smile.

"Congratulations on your wedding!" he said warmly. Meng Tiange thanked him with a smile, only then learning from Ding Haijie that this man was his college roommate.

However, just as Meng Tiange was about to ask more, Ding’s parents hurried over, claiming they had urgent matters to discuss with Wang Kaichen, and promptly whisked him away.

After Wang Kaichen left, Ding Haijie acted strangely—distracted and absent-minded. When Meng Tiange asked if he was alright, he brushed it off, saying he was just tired from waking up too early that morning.

Meng Tiange didn’t think much of it, assuming the wedding preparations had simply worn him out.

Yet just as Meng Tiange was enjoying this happiness, Wang Kaichen—the man she had briefly met at the wedding—reappeared.

After some conversation, Meng Tiange learned that Wang Kaichen and Ding Haijie were much closer than just college roommates.

Years ago, they had started a business together in the south. Through all the challenges, they had become each other’s closest confidants.

Life now seemed to have entered a happy new phase, harmonious and perfect in every way. Ding’s parents eagerly awaited the arrival of their grandchild, devoting themselves wholeheartedly to caring for their daughter-in-law, Meng Tiange.

Deep down, however, Ding’s parents were furious by Wang Kaichen’s sudden reappearance. Though their resentment was hardly hidden, they suppressed their anger and held several private, intense conversations with Wang Kaichen.

However, no matter how earnestly they tried to persuade him, it seemed impossible to change the situation. Their son believed he had already fulfilled his duty by continuing the Ding family line, which left Ding’s parents deeply helpless, and in the end, they had no choice but to turn a blind eye.

As the pregnancy progressed, Ding Haijie even proposed they sleep apart, saying he was worried it might harm the baby.

At first, Meng Tiange, trusting and naive, didn’t question it. She naively assumed it was entirely out of her husband’s deep care for their unborn child, so she agreed without hesitation.
