    Chapter 27

The man had never known a fist could hurt so much. His father had always just casually scolded him, never truly hitting him, but Qi Heyan’s punches were merciless.

He curled up on the ground, howling and begging Qi Heyan to spare him.

"Dad, save me! He’s going to kill me!"

The Old Doctor, advanced in years, stood by, helplessly anxious. But when he glanced at his daughter-in-law, he froze. The woman, once so joyful upon marrying into the family, now wore a blank expression. He thought that if Qi Heyan weren’t present, she would have already joined in the beating.

    "Dad."

The woman suddenly looked over and chuckled softly. "Do you think he’ll actually kill him?"

The Old Doctor stiffened. Seeing Qi Heyan’s bloodshot eyes, he could only timidly shuffle forward. "Stop it… stop hitting him!"

Of course, Qi Heyan wouldn’t actually kill the man. His breath came heavy, hands smeared with blood, which he wiped clean on the man’s clothes the next second. The Alpha gave him a cold look and stood up calmly, as if nothing had happened. "Do you have any medicine?"

    "What kind do you need?"

It was the woman who answered him. She smiled at Qi Heyan, her eyes alight with barely hidden glee. "I’ll help you find it."

    "Just…"

Qi Heyan didn’t spare a glance at anyone else. After briefly explaining to the woman, she quickly found the medicine. "It’s raining hard outside. Be careful on your way back. Don’t exert yourself too much for a while."

    "Thanks."

With that, Qi Heyan took his umbrella and left. The same black umbrella that had sheltered him on his arrival now shielded him as he departed alone.

The woman watched him go, then turned to the man still gasping on the ground and said softly, "What a shame. He didn’t kill you."

The man’s eyes widened instantly, and he immediately began cursing her.

"Dad." The woman ignored the man’s state, speaking only to the Old Doctor. "Back then, you said your family was well-off, that I wouldn’t suffer if I married in. But these last two years have been hell. I was already planning to ask for a divorce soon—I just didn’t expect karma to come so quickly."

"I’m a sinner too. It would’ve been better to kill him sooner." She smiled lightly. "You spoiled him all these years, turning someone with an underdeveloped brain into a total moron."

Back then, the man had still been able to pretend. Who knew he’d show his true colors within half a year?

"I’m leaving. I’ll see you on the day of the divorce."

    .

Qi Heyan didn’t concern himself with other people’s family affairs. He had enough of his own problems to deal with.

The Omega was running a low-grade fever. As soon as Qi Heyan returned, he heard Bai Qi’s heavy breathing. His chest tightened, and he hurried over to check Bai Qi’s temperature. Fortunately, the fever wasn’t too severe.

    "Are you feeling unwell?"

Qi Heyan fetched water and used a towel to wipe Bai Qi’s body. The Alpha lowered his gaze, his eyes filled with unconcealable tenderness. "I’ll take you to see a doctor."

Then he suddenly remembered that the clinic was probably in chaos right now.

"No." Bai Qi was already awake. He actually felt fine, just a little lightheaded. The Omega sniffled and instinctively burrowed closer into the Alpha’s embrace.

The bond of their mark made them instinctively closer.

Qi Heyan released calming pheromones and half-lifted Bai Qi, murmuring softly, "When I went to buy medicine earlier, I got the feeling their family was about to start arguing."

People always loved gossip, and Bai Qi was no exception. He immediately perked up like a curious puppy and stared at Qi Heyan. "What? Tell me, tell me!"

Seeing the Omega regain his energy so quickly, Qi Heyan couldn’t help but laugh. He patted Bai Qi’s back. "That man has a wife, right? When I was beating him today, she looked happy as hell—like she was rooting for me to kill him."

"Oh." Bai Qi understood instantly and snuggled even closer. "I know about that. That man’s a worthless piece of shit. He doesn’t work at all. I heard he only got married because his dad has good connections."

"But they’ve been talking about divorce for a long time. The man just refuses, throwing tantrums, even stopping his wife from leaving the house." Bai Qi poked Qi Heyan’s chest—he had to admit, the Alpha’s physique was impressive. During their intimate moments, the Omega had squeezed those abs plenty of times.

    "He’s trash."

"But I’m not." Qi Heyan took Bai Qi’s hand and pressed it against his own chest, locking eyes with the Omega, gaze tender. "I’m a good person."

Bai Qi tried to pull away but failed, so he gave up. "I don’t believe you. You lied to me, saying it was the last time, but you just kept going for your own pleasure."

    "You didn’t enjoy it?"

The Alpha fixated on an odd point but was stubborn about it. "I think aside from the first time when I wasn’t skilled, I got better fast."

Bai Qi wasn’t yet comfortable discussing such things so casually with Qi Heyan. He made a flustered noise and said, "Stop talking about it."

    "You’re blushing."

Qi Heyan pinched Bai Qi’s cheek. The Alpha had washed his face as soon as he returned, washing the grime away before holding the Omega.

He couldn’t let Bai Qi get dirty.

The Omega still felt weak, so he let Qi Heyan manhandle him gently. "Yes, I’m embarrassed, so stop asking."

Bai Qi narrowed his eyes, then suddenly mumbled awkwardly. "You…"

"Having you here makes it hard for me to control myself." Qi Heyan chuckled and cleared his throat. "You know what I mean."

The Omega raised a brow. He pushed away from Qi Heyan and casually kicked the Alpha, quickly retracting his foot—this horny Alpha always manhandled his ankle like he was making an arrest.

At first, Bai Qi really had struggled with it—he’d slept with Qi Heyan, just like that, winding up in an Alpha’s bed.

But after thinking it over, he’d come to terms with it. Didn’t Qi Heyan say he liked him?

So… did he like Qi Heyan?

The Omega couldn’t answer that yet, but he knew he felt mostly at ease.

Still, he couldn’t help remembering his mother’s warnings, and it made him a little afraid.

"Where’s the medicine?" Bai Qi dug under the covers and sighed. "I ache."

Normally, Omegas in heat didn’t need lubricant, but Qi Heyan had gone too many rounds—and he wasn’t small. Bai Qi’s slight frame couldn’t handle it.

Plus, once Qi Heyan started, he was like a starved beast, unwilling to stop until he’d claimed every inch of Bai Qi.

Qi Heyan immediately produced the medicine. He blinked, giving Bai Qi puppy-dog eyes—his meaning was obvious.

He wanted to apply the medicine for Bai Qi.

Bai Qi rolled his eyes. He took the medicine, but when the Alpha still didn’t move, he bit back his irritation and said firmly, "Get out."

    "I’ll take care of you."

    "Qi Heyan!"

Bai Qi’s voice went sharp. "Out. Now."

    "Okay."

Qi Heyan immediately gave in. He got off the bed and slowly walked toward the door, still fretting as he reminded him, "If anything’s wrong, call me right away. I’ll be right outside."

Bai Qi couldn't be bothered with him. As soon as the man left, he hurried to apply the medicine. It stung a little when he wiped it on—Qi Heyan hadn’t lied to him; it really was swollen.

    Such an annoying alpha.

Bai Qi mentally cursed Qi Heyan twice, but he soon let it go and even called him back. "I’m sleepy."

"Eat something before sleeping?" Qi Heyan touched Bai Qi’s forehead again, relieved when he confirmed his temperature hadn’t risen. "There’s still some energy bars at home."

    "Not hungry."

Bai Qi had no appetite. After taking the contraceptive pill, he felt nauseous. The omega lay down, giving Qi Heyan’s finger a squeeze. "You should eat something and rest too. Once the rain stops in a couple of days, we’ll go look for work."

"What about the house? When are we building it?"

Only when Qi Heyan asked did Bai Qi remember. Maybe he’d slept his brains out—he still felt like he hadn’t saved enough money and that it would take more time.

"Tomorrow, then." After saying it, Bai Qi worried he might not be up for it and quickly added, "If I’m feeling better, we’ll go together."

    "Okay."

"But let’s agree on this first—hire someone to build it. Don’t do it yourself." Qi Heyan pulled the blanket tighter around Bai Qi, checking for drafts before standing up. He ruffled the omega’s hair. "Sleep. I’ll go heat some water for a bath."

    "Mhm."

Bai Qi also nuzzled slightly against Qi Heyan’s hand before closing his eyes and falling asleep almost immediately.

These past few days had exhausted Bai Qi completely. Not even the sound of Qi Heyan bathing woke him—it was only stirring when the alpha climbed into bed.

His voice was still hoarse when he first woke. The omega mumbled, "Done with your bath?"

"Yeah. Did I wake you?" Qi Heyan gathered Bai Qi into his arms, patting his back like he would a child's. "Go back to sleep."

"Not that sleepy." Bai Qi didn’t resist the embrace. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Are you tired? If not, let’s talk."

"Of course I’m not tired. What do you want to talk about?" Qi Heyan could never refuse Bai Qi. His voice dropped even lower, as if the nighttime quiet called for whispers, even in their own home.

Bai Qi thought carefully before settling on a topic. "I was thinking about what furniture to buy. There are too many scammers around here."

"I think the first thing we should get is a bigger bed." Qi Heyan chuckled, pressing close to Bai Qi. "Otherwise, it’s hard for both of us to turn over at night."

    "Why not buy two beds?"

    "Are we sleeping separately?"

Now Qi Heyan was genuinely shocked. He sounded baffled. "After we’ve already… you still want to split up?"

"Why not?" Bai Qi was equally confused. He reached up to pinch Qi Heyan’s face lightly. "We just slept together. That doesn’t make us a couple."

"Why would we sleep together then?"
