Chapter 112
by 甜辛宝贝Chapter 112
On his second day in America, Shen Muyun discovered that Shen Wenjin was still the legal representative of the overseas branch, a status yet unchanged. Shen Liuyun, seizing the moment, was already actively orchestrating operations there.
"Bro Yun, how do the documents look? Are you interested in this project? If so, why not snatch it up and run it ourselves?"
Shen Muyun reviewed the company's business. "It's mainly in the jewelry trade. Honestly, I'm not particularly interested; I just want to beat him."
Lu Huainan sat beside him, eyeing a gemstone slated for an upcoming auction. "Do you like this one?"
Shen Muyun shook his head. "Isn't there that Kashmir sapphire? Have you forgotten? What if there's another curse? Would we have to resell everything again?"
Lu Huainan pursed his lips. He admitted they had resold that gemstone before due to curse fears. But as Shen Muyun's lucky streak continued, one after another, he couldn't help but question the curse's origin.
"Bro Yun, if there really was a curse, that gemstone should have shown its power by now. Instead, I feel like our endeavors have been quite smooth."
Shen Muyun snorted, "Smooth, my foot! We almost bought the farm in Baitou Village, and during the fight for the family fortune, we uncovered Shen Liuyun’s hidden side. Who knows how many slimy snakes were lurking around?" He massaged his temples and sighed.
"Huainan, I have to say, good luck doesn’t come often, but misfortune might follow us like a shadow."
"Hey now, don’t say such discouraging things. Since we’re in the U.S., Bro Yun, wanna go horseback riding? Weren’t you into horse racing before? Let’s do it properly this time. Want to join?"
Shen Muyun narrowed his eyes at Lu Huainan, always sensing he was up to something, his mind brimming with whimsical notions.
"Hmm? No, I'm scared. That was just a phase back then, and that contract—I couldn't sign it, so I took a risk."
"Well, there are plenty of other activities. We could try archery, play golf, or go to a bar for drinks. What do you think?"
Shen Muyun shook his head. "None of those really appeal to me. Are there any other options?"
"Then there's the same old hot springs, or we could go to the amusement park. The newly opened one is pretty fun. Although, I heard the haunted house is quite scary. Want to give it a try?"
Shen Muyun playfully tapped Lu Huainan’s forehead. "I mean, how old are you? Thirty years old and still acting like a kid? Didn’t you get enough playtime as a child? Trying to make up for it now?"
Lu Huainan shook his head, softly reminiscing about the past.
"Actually, now that you mention it, maybe a little. Back then, my parents’ usual way of saying goodbye was at the amusement park. When I was little, I always hoped that during the holidays, my parents would bring my sister here, but they only had a month or two before they had to go back."
"Honestly, I envy Luo Zhi. She got to be with her parents every day. Back then, I was in the U.S. and had the butler looking after me. Every time my parents left, they would take me to the nearby amusement park, saying there were magic shows where people could poof away."
For a moment, Shen Muyun even felt a twinge of sympathy for Lu Huainan. What was he like in his youth? He really wished he could have seen it for himself, not just heard about it from others, but that was nothing more than a fantasy.
"And then? I really got to see the magician, and my parents poofed away. That’s how they left. They were worried I’d be sad, so they told me the magician had whisked them back home. I actually believed it. Back then, I kept thinking, if only I could contact a magician back home, they could bring my parents back, even if just for a little while."
Shen Muyun held Lu Huainan tightly, gently patting his back.
"Huainan, I had no idea you went through so much. I didn’t know it was so hard for you."
"Yeah, but that was all a long time ago. It’s been almost twenty years now. Don’t worry, I’m fine now. See, my illness barely flares up anymore, all thanks to Bro Yun always being by my side."
Shen Muyun smiled. "Yeah, I’ll always be with you. Still want to go to the amusement park? Our amusement park doesn’t have magicians, just you and me. I’ll always be with you, no matter what we do. How does that sound?"
Lu Huainan nodded. He had been worried that Shen Muyun would think he was childish and not want to go, but now it seemed that worry was unnecessary.
"So when do we go? That amusement park is welcoming its 5,000th guest. The count is ticking over in real time. For some reason, even though the 5,000th guest gets in free, not many people are going."
Shen Muyun checked and saw that the amusement park was run by an American with no connection to Shen Liuyun, which set his mind at ease.
"Bro Yun, what are you looking at?"
"Nothing, man, just checking out what fun activities they have. I have to say, it’s been years since I’ve been to one. These are all for young people; we might be past all that."
"Who says? As long as we’re together and keep a young mindset, we’ll always be eighteen."
Shen Muyun mussed Lu Huainan’s hair. Who would have thought that someone just two years younger could act so much like a kid?
"Bro Yun, let’s go, okay? If we get there, we might even make it for the free entry. And if we do get in free, we can even treat ourselves to a big meal. Well, even if we don’t, we should still eat. Relaxing our minds will help us solve problems more smoothly."
Shen Muyun playfully tweaked Lu Huainan’s ear and sighed helplessly. "You, kiddo, when will you ever grow up?"
"I don’t want to grow up, never. I want to stay a grown-up kid with Bro Yun forever, so we can raise hell together."
"Alright, alright, whatever you say," Shen Muyun said with a wink. "But the weather isn’t great today. Are you sure you want to go today, or should we wait until tomorrow?"
Lu Huainan glanced at the gray skies outside.
"The weather isn’t great today. How about we stay in and play games? Games are the best for stress relief."
Shen Muyun prodded Lu Huainan’s cheek. "Why do I feel like you’re becoming more and more like a child?"
"I’ve always been a child; Bro Yun just never noticed. So, what game should we play? How about a shooter or an escape game? Those are fun."
"I get a little dizzy with 3D games."
"No worries, I’ve got you!"
And so, Shen Muyun couldn’t refuse Lu Huainan’s plan and ended up playing games with him.
He didn’t really know what game it was, but it looked familiar, like something he’d played a long time ago.
The two of them entered the game.
"Bro Yun, let me tell you, there’s a lot of stuff in the warehouse nearby. We should go in and check it out. If there’s anyone inside, we’ll run. Oh, wait, no—there are two of us. We can work together from inside and out. Teamwork is fun."
Shen Muyun looked at the screen. The warehouse was pitch-dark; he couldn’t see a thing. They didn’t have the right equipment, and he was starting to regret it.
As he glanced around the corner, a red light seemed to flicker.
"Huainan, I think there’s someone over here."
"Where, man? I don’t see anything."
Shen Muyun pinned the spot.
"Bro Yun, did you forget? I’m right next to you. Marking coordinates doesn’t really help."
Before Lu Huainan finished speaking, a burst of gunfire rang out. There were indeed people nearby, and more than one.
"Huainan, you circle around. I’ll take the front. If anyone gets shot, we’ll patch them up after we take care of the enemies."
"No problem."
Shen Muyun scoped the area. There was a crate that seemed like decent cover. Just as he was about to move toward it, the enemy spotted him. A red light flashed, and he quickly changed course.
"Bro Yun, your skills are pretty good. Did you play the closed beta or something?"
"Not at all."
Just then, an even heavier barrage of gunfire erupted outside. Lu Huainan’s character had somehow made it to the second floor, giving him a clear view of the situation below. He picked them off one by one, quickly eliminating quite a few.
Just as he sensed something was off behind him, he was instantly headshot by the enemy.
"Ah, how could this happen? I was the first one up there—that was my turf! Brother Yun, look at them, they're all ganging up on me."
Shen Muyun, sitting cross-legged on the sofa, carefully observed the situation. The current circumstances weren’t in his favor. With Lu Huainan’s character dead, there was no need to resist—he could just surrender. But he wasn’t willing to give up.
Lu Huainan grabbed a bag of potato chips and sat beside Shen Muyun, munching noisily while watching Shen Muyun’s impressive gameplay. He even felt a little excited.
He leaned over and kissed Shen Muyun’s cheek.
"Brother Yun, you’re so amazing. I really like it—what should we do?"
Before Shen Muyun could process Lu Huainan’s words, he was already pinned down, unable to move.
"Lu Huainan, the game isn’t over yet!"
"It’s fine. We’re more important."
The character in the game suddenly stopped moving. The pursuers behind didn’t dare let their guard down, thinking it was a trap, and even took a detour around him.
"Lu Huainan, no..."
"Why not? Brother Yun, you’re so sensitive. Look, your face is all red."
Shen Muyun bit his lip, gripping the keyboard tightly. He couldn’t let them kill him at the last moment—all the effort in this round would be wasted.
"Ah..."
Shen Muyun let out a shriek just as his character was discovered, followed by a burst of smoke.
"Brother Yun, don’t panic. Look, you’re about to win."
Shen Muyun gripped the sofa in discomfort, staring at the screen. He really felt like throwing the keyboard in his hands.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
A series of rapid gunshots rang out. Shen Muyun reacted swiftly and dodged just in time.
"Mmm..."
He grunted softly, and the victory icon appeared on the screen.
"Brother Yun, we won! You were incredible. So I’ve decided to reward you. Brother Yun, do you like it?"
Shen Muyun’s face flushed. "You did this on purpose—you planned this round from the start."
"Brother Yun, you’re just too clever."
