Chapter 82 Good Intentions
by 时离月浅Chapter 82: Good Intentions
Thanks to Gu Yu’s prior arrangements, Mrs. Xie was quickly examined and treated upon her arrival at the city hospital.
"Based on the examination results, the patient's injury is not severe."
In the doctor's office, Xie Xinyi and Xie Xinhuan listened intently to the diagnosis.
The condition was not serious and required no further treatment, but a blood clot remained in her head, necessitating hospitalization for observation.
"When will our mother wake up?" Xie Xinhuan asked anxiously, her eyes red.
She was, after all, just a teenager of seventeen or eighteen. From the moment Gu Yu informed her at school about her mother's injury, she had cried incessantly on the way to the hospital.
She not only cried but also cursed vehemently.
Upon learning that Second Uncle Xie's family had sent Mrs. Xie to a local clinic, Xie Xinhuan had pieced together the situation without Xie Xinyi needing to say a word.
While accompanying their mother during the examination, the younger sister alternated between weeping and raging.
She cursed Second Uncle Xie's family for their inhumanity, criticizing them for sending Mrs. Xie to a clinic with inadequate medical facilities despite the severity of her injury.
Sending her to a clinic was bad enough, but they hadn't even notified the sisters immediately, as if fearing Xie Xinyi and Xie Xinhuan would demand money. Even after the transfer to the city hospital, there was no word of concern or inquiry from them.
Calculating, cowardly, greedy, and heartless.
Xie Xinhuan seethed with hatred for that family. Although Mrs. Xie's condition was not critical, the root cause of the injury lay with Second Uncle Xie's family.
She had no intention of letting them off easily and planned to teach them a lesson once her mother recovered. Not long after, news of the Liu family causing an uproar at the Xie household reached her ears.
When her childhood friend came to visit Mrs. Xie at the hospital, the first words out of her mouth were, "Justice has been served."
The incident of Mrs. Xie falling at home had already spread like wildfire in Guozixiang.
Neighbors who lived nearby and knew the details of that day's events privately condemned Second Uncle Xie's family as utterly worthless.
The elder brother had brazenly snatched his sister-in-law’s belongings, pushed her to the ground, and then failed to send her to the hospital.
People cursed Xie Changshun for being inhuman, wondering who could possibly teach such a villain a lesson. Unexpectedly, the very next morning, the Xie household descended into chaos.
The Liu family arrived just as dawn was breaking.
"The quiet of Guozixiang was suddenly shattered by a fierce commotion…"
Xie Xinyi's childhood friend gave a vivid play-by-play of the scene in the hospital corridor, only to be interrupted by Xie Xinhuan, who demanded she speak plainly.
"In plain terms, the Liu family somehow gathered over a dozen strong men and a group of aunties. The men were tasked with snatching the child, while the aunties argued with Xu Wenxia. Liu Zhenzhu’s father had brought the entire Liu family, dozens of people surrounding Second Uncle Xie’s family. Second Uncle Xie and Xie Jianjun were beaten to a pulp, and Xu Wenxia was so enraged she fainted on the spot."
After spilling all this out, her friend paused to take a deep breath.
"And then?" Xie Xinhuan, unsatisfied with the outcome, urged her to continue.
"Then Xie Jianmin returned, saw what was happening, and called all his dubious friends. The two sides were in the midst of a fierce fight when the police arrived."
"With the police there, wouldn't the Liu family, who started it, be at a disadvantage?"
Xie Xinhuan questioned, but her friend shook her head. "We thought so too, but guess what?"
"I don't know."
"The child’s household registration is under the Liu family, and the child bears the Liu surname. Since Second Uncle Xie’s family took the child without permission, the police would naturally side with the Liu family."
Xie Xinyi spoke up from behind her younger sister. Her friend across from her widened her eyes in astonishment. "Sis, how did you know?"
So, the outcome was exactly as Xie Xinyi had said? Even though Second Uncle Xie’s family was beaten to a pulp, they gained nothing?
Xie Xinhuan was puzzled, but her friend excitedly explained, "Not only did they gain nothing, but a few of the people Xie Jianmin called had criminal records. When the police showed up, they panicked and fled. The scene of the child-snatching instantly turned into a manhunt. In the end, Second Uncle Xie’s family was detained for half a month for harboring and concealing criminals."
"They got off too lightly."
A mere half-month detention did little to quell the anger in Xie Xinhuan’s heart.
She cursed through gritted teeth once more, while Xie Xinyi listened calmly without comment.
In comparison, Xie Xinhuan was far more emotionally charged. She looked at Xie Xinyi in confusion. "Second Sister, aren't you angry?"
"Angry about what?" Xie Xinyi countered.
"Angry that Second Uncle Xie’s family didn’t get the punishment they deserved."
"Didn't they?" Xie Xinyi avoided a direct answer and instead turned to her sister’s friend. "Was Xie Jianjun’s child ultimately taken away by the Liu family?"
"Yes, they took him."
Had Xie Xinyi not brought it up, her friend would have nearly forgotten to mention it. "As soon as the police arrived, the Liu family presented the household register and birth certificate. The child’s name was clearly listed under the Liu surname. Without the Liu family having to say much, the police took the child from Second Uncle Xie’s hands and returned him to the Liu family. Your second uncle’s face fell on the spot."
The outcome spoke for itself.
The Liu family had brought their household register to the confrontation and arrived with perfect timing. Just as Xu Wenxia had returned from a long trip with the child, they showed up at the door, even bringing strong men and aunties with clear intentions.
Xie Xinhuan glanced back at her calm elder sister, recalling her earlier words to her brother-in-law about not letting Second Uncle Xie’s family off easily, as well as her immediate conclusion just now.
Could it be…?
She stared incredulously at Xie Xinyi, who was calmly seeing her friend off. Once they were alone, she immediately grabbed Xie Xinyi’s hand and asked, "Second Sister, you were the one who tipped off the Liu family, weren't you?"
Xie Xinyi did not deny it. "Dealing with such people requires a fatal blow."
Previously, Second Uncle Xie’s family had only engaged in minor provocations that didn’t cross her bottom line. A warning to keep them in check was enough.
Out of respect for the original host’s father, she had held back on many occasions.
She had thought giving them some leeway might teach them a lesson, but what happened instead?
They took advantage of the sisters’ absence to commit such a heartless act against Mrs. Xie.
Stealing was one thing, and even snatching the martyr's certificate was tolerable, but pushing her to the ground and delaying medical care for two days was something Xie Xinyi could never forgive.
Since Second Uncle Xie’s family acted without humanity, she saw no reason to hold back.
They enjoyed stealing, so she decided to let them taste the consequences of stealing someone’s treasure.
The Liu family had painstakingly raised the child, yet Xie Jianjun wanted to reap the benefits without effort. So, Xie Xinyi decided to play the good Samaritan and openly called the Liu family to inform them that Xie Jianjun had taken the child to his parents’ home.
She believed if you're going to help someone, go all the way. Not only did she tell the Liu family where the child was, but she also provided a detailed account of each member of the Xie family.
For example, Second Xie is a real troublemaker—you'd need a few big guys to pin him down.
Take Xie Jianjun’s mother, for instance—she’s as shameless as they come. With her gift of gab, she could talk a dead person back to life. If you don’t bring along some sharp-tongued aunties and proof that the kid is really from your Liu family, even the police won’t be able to help you.
Oh, and don’t forget Xie Jianjun’s younger brother—a notorious good-for-nothing in Guozixiang who only hangs out with jailbird friends. You’d better be careful not to run into any fugitives.
She was giving them good advice, urging the Liu family to prepare thoroughly and take them down in one move. If they alerted them too soon, she remembered Xu Wenxia had a sister who was married and living down in Hainan.
If they sent the child there, even with all the resources in the world, the Lius might never get him back.
Knowing the Liu family looked down on Second Xie’s branch of the family, they hardly ever saw them, and hadn't had any contact in years.
They couldn’t sort out the Xie family tree, let alone understand what kind of monsters Second Xie’s household was made of.
Xie Xinyi had a heart of gold and was more than happy to share everything she knew.
The child deserved a normal life, and those heartless people needed to get a taste of what it's like to lose what mattered most—otherwise, they’d keep thinking a tiger that doesn’t roar is just a sick cat.
Xie Xinyi gave Second Xie’s family no breathing room. After the Lius dealt with them, she made another call to Auntie Ma from the neighborhood committee.
Everyone in Guozixiang knew how Second Xie’s family had bullied Xie’s mother into the hospital. When Xie Xinyi proposed dividing the house, Auntie Ma didn’t even ask why—she agreed right away.
The Xie family’s three-room house, with its odd layout—Xie Xinyi claimed the eastern room where they lived and the newly built room at the end.
The agreement was drafted and processed by the neighborhood committee, witnessed by several neighboring households, and signed by Xie Xinyi and her younger sister.
Originally, the apartment bought for Xie’s mother in Beijing already had the property deed. Xie Xinyi had planned to bring her mother up over the weekend with her sister, but then this mess happened.
Now, with the house divided, Xie Xinyi quickly packed her mother’s belongings and secured the door with two heavy padlocks from the factory.
As for the cellar, Xie Xinyi didn’t leave a single vegetable behind—she loaded everything into the car. Xie Xinhuan even took a hoe and trashed the cellar before leaving.
"Let’s see them steal our things now."
With the house locked up tight and the cellar empty and destroyed, let’s see how Second Xie’s family could ever take advantage again.
The Xie sisters really let off steam before leaving. On their way out, they gave Auntie Zhang next door a braised pig’s trotter and asked her to keep an eye on the place.
A whole pig’s trotter—not something you could just buy with money. Xie Xinyi handed it over without a second thought, just for a little occasional oversight.
Auntie Zhang grinned from ear to ear, repeatedly assuring Xie Xinyi she could rest easy.
Better to give favors to others than to Second Xie’s family.
When Grandma Xie returned home to find the east wing hollowed out and the place deserted, she was so enraged she suffered a stroke and became half-paralyzed.
As for Second Xie’s family, after half a month in jail—facing re-education and fines—Xie Jianmin was even implicated in a theft case, and their child was taken by the Lius. Returning home, they found the house divided, the yard stripped bare, and the old mother lying paralyzed in her own filth…
Xu Wenxia slapped her thigh and wailed.
"Heavens above, what sin have I committed to deserve this!"
