Chapter 11 Interview
byChapter 11 Interview
At Yunkang Pharmaceutical.
Dressed in formal attire, Wen Yu waited in the corridor outside the interview room, surrounded by many other job applicants.
These interviewees were all students on the cusp of graduation. Regardless of their academic achievements, this marked their first foray into the professional world. Each face was taut with nerves, punctuated by occasional deep breaths to calm their anxiety.
A select few appeared remarkably composed, eyes closed in contemplation. Yet, a closer look revealed their eyelids subtly twitching, betraying their frantic mental rehearsal of potential scenarios.
In this tense and subdued atmosphere, the individual seated opposite Wen Yu was conspicuously out of place.
He sat with crossed legs, hands casually tucked into his pockets, fully obscured by a mask, hat, and sunglasses.
His demeanor was both relaxed and audacious, hardly befitting a job seeker.
Someone tugged at Wen Yu’s sleeve. He turned his head.
“Excuse me, classmate,” a bright-eyed young man whispered, leaning closer to Wen Yu. “Do you know that person? Why has he been staring at you?”
“No, I don’t,” Wen Yu shook his head, glancing across the hall. The peculiar individual hadn't shifted his gaze from Wen Yu since sitting down.
As Wen Yu met his eyes, the person suddenly let out a stifled, guttural sound, his body trembling as if struck by an exhilarating thought, chuckling incessantly to himself.
“Ugh… wow, that’s really creepy,” the young man shivered, rubbing his arms, and then pulled Wen Yu to the farthest corner from the strange man.
Wen Yu frowned, a sense of unease settling over him.
======
“Candidate 13.”
A young man named Ning Zhi emerged from the room, his face tight with emotion, brushing past Wen Yu.
Wen Yu patted his shoulder. Ning Zhi, unable to hold back, pursed his lips to suppress tears, then embraced Wen Yu tightly.
“Good luck!”
Wen Yu entered the interview room and presented his resume to the panel. “Hello, interviewers. Here is my resume.”
“Please have a seat.”
“Thank you.”
The lead interviewer offered a benevolent smile.
“Don’t be nervous. Please take a few minutes to introduce yourself.”
“Certainly. My name is Wen Yu. I am a recent graduate from LH Medical College, specializing in clinical medicine. I am keenly interested in the clinical drug researcher position at your esteemed company. For this reason, I…”
After listening to Wen Yu’s introduction, the lead interviewer maintained his smile, gently setting down the papers he held.
“You spent six years at university? What led you to take a year off? Did you struggle to keep up with your coursework?”
Wen Yu’s fingers, resting on his lap, subtly curled.
“It was due to health reasons; I fell ill at the time. However, I utilized that period productively by participating in a confidential study at First Hospital. This experience significantly deepened my understanding of how clinical practice integrates with research…”
“Hmm,” the lead interviewer nodded. “I heard your academic performance in school was quite outstanding. Our researchers hold you in high regard. Could you explain why you chose not to pursue further academic studies?”
“I was eager to contribute to society sooner, and I also noticed Yunkang’s recruitment advertisement on campus. Your company’s philosophy deeply resonated with me, inspiring a strong aspiration to join Yunkang.”
“Then why not become a doctor? You must be a disciple of Dr. Lin Guixiang, right? He’s a master in gynecology. While studying under him might take some time, the future prospects are boundless.”
The lead interviewer chuckled, adding playfully, “Young people, impatience won’t do. Rushing for success isn’t advisable.”
“…” Wen Yu smiled, playing along. “Well, I still need to earn a living, after all. While my mentor thinks highly of me, he can’t exactly pay me 8,000 a month, can he?”
“Hahaha, you’re quite humorous,” the lead interviewer said, then, as if remembering something, asked, “When you were at the hospital, did you happen to see Dr. Lin Guixiang’s recently completed project?”
“That project is confidential. Even if I had seen it, I’m not at liberty to discuss it.”
“Oh, right,” the lead interviewer glanced at the other interviewers. “I heard it’s about male childbirth—quite shocking, hahaha.”
“Yeah, what made them research that? What’s the point?”
“Probably for innovation evaluations. Don’t clinical doctors undergo quarterly evaluations too…”
……
……
Wen Yu emerged from the room with a blank expression.
======
Something felt off.
The interview had been riddled with unnecessarily difficult questions. Even though he handled them appropriately, he couldn’t stop the interviewers from constantly veering off-topic. He had no choice but to abandon attempts to guide the conversation and simply address each question as it arose.
By the end, he realized not a single question had touched upon his professional skills.
Even if they disliked the person who referred him, it shouldn’t have been like this… Was he being deliberately excluded?
Wen Yu was lost in thought.
As Candidate 14 passed by, he deliberately bumped Wen Yu’s shoulder hard.
“Oof,” Wen Yu clutched his shoulder, taking two steps back. “What was that for?”
“Hmph,” the person snorted coldly and walked into the room.
Wen Yu was baffled. Looking around, he noticed the other applicants giving him unfriendly, scrutinizing looks.
“What are you all staring at?” Ning Zhi, who was in line before Wen Yu, suddenly spoke up. “We’re all adults here. How can you be so easily swayed? He’s interviewing alongside us, competing fairly. Blaming others for your own incompetence over a few rumors—how childish!”
“Come here,” he said, pulling Wen Yu outside.
“What’s going on?”
The young man sighed. “When I went in earlier, I overheard that weirdo slandering you.”
“He’s probably holding a grudge against you,” he said, rubbing his reddened eyes. “He claimed you were already chosen, and the rest of us are just here for show—that none of us stand a chance.”
“He said that?” Wen Yu’s heart sank. “Why? I don’t even know him.”
It was true that his senior, Zhang, had helped him secure this opportunity, but there was no pre-selection involved. Zhang had mentored him for a while and had great confidence in his abilities, so he merely applied for an additional recruitment slot and ensured Wen Yu’s resume was considered.
“I don’t know. There must be some serious animosity. If you end up getting selected, rumors are bound to spread.”
“It’s fine. Like you said, it’s fair competition,” Wen Yu replied, though he felt uneasy. He tried to reassure him, “Maybe he just has a problem with me?”
"Hmm, maybe."
It also couldn't be ruled out that it was purely out of malicious intent; after all, Wen Yu was indeed the most striking figure in the entire hallway before that eccentric person arrived.
The two returned to the hallway to wait for the interview to end.
Most people present could understand what was happening and largely saw it as just someone trying to cause drama, not taking it to heart.
So what was the point, really?
Wen Yu was perplexed, his gaze sweeping over the empty seat directly ahead and pausing slightly.
He stepped forward and plucked a strand of light-blue short hair from the seat.
======
Wen Yu added Ning Zhi, Candidate No. 12, on WeChat, bid farewell to everyone, and returned home.
Now, it was just a matter of waiting for Yunkang's notification.
Wen Yu embraced Wen Xiaoyi, who rushed over, and instinctively kissed the little one’s cheek.
Unable to contain his joy, he affectionately rubbed his face against the child’s: “Xiaoyi, Daddy’s going to have a job!”
“Huh?” Wen Xiaoyi tilted his head, a little confused. “Is that something better than a new phone?”
Wen Yu chuckled: “Of course! With this job, Daddy can take even better care of Xiaoyi!”
“Okaaay,” Wen Xiaoyi drew out his words, cooing playfully. “Then Xiaoyi wants to work too! Daddy takes care of Xiaoyi, and Xiaoyi will take care of Daddy.”
“Alright, Xiaoyi’s job is to be Daddy’s child. Daddy will give Xiaoyi money, and then Xiaoyi can use that money to take care of Daddy, how about that?”
Wen Xiaoyi scrunched his little brow and thought hard for a moment, convinced he’d figured it out, and exclaimed excitedly: “Then it’s settled! I’ll take care of Daddy!”
Wen Yu laughed and kissed the chubby cheeks.

Ding—
Playboy: What's going on? Liao Yujun came to me.
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: Weird. How much money did he lose that you're being so ruthless? You even used all those marketing accounts from my company.
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: You lost your 200, didn't you?
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: Understood. I'll brush him off.
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: He really doesn't know how to raise a son, ending up with such a disgrace. His reputation is probably ruined, who knows how many times he's caused trouble.
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: Wonder if Mr. Liao will still protect him this time. Your move is ruthless, the public opinion is exploding.
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: Alright, he brought it upon himself. What's next?
Xian Yin: .
Playboy: No problem.
...What do you mean "no problem"?
Xue Shu stopped typing periods, feeling surprised by the direction of the conversation above, but also thinking it really wasn't an issue.
"..." Whatever.
Liao Yujun...
Xue Shu let out a cold sneer and tossed his phone aside.
He narrowed his eyes sarcastically, looking at the heated discussions on the computer screen.
If Mr. Liao doesn't know how to raise his child, then don't blame him if the child he spoiled ends up dragging him down.

The hot searches kept exploding for several more days.
#Lele Apology#
#Stealing Money!#
#Rich Second Generation Drugged#
#Major Pretentiousness#
#Exposing the Backer of a Certain Celebrity Criminal#
Wen Yu clicked on the fifth top search.
[Professional Critic]: It is reported that seven days ago, a certain live-streaming celebrity accidentally exposed during a phone call that he had committed crimes including "Trespassing," "Theft of Property," and "Use of Illegal Drugs." According to past findings, this celebrity was also photographed at CE Grand Hotel hosting a wild party, which reportedly involved drugs that prompted authorities to intervene, leading to CE Hotel being rectified. This shows this person is thoroughly disreputable.
So why can such a person still thrive in the entertainment industry, full of popularity?
Let this editor expose the forces behind this person.
This editor's investigation reveals that this celebrity's real name is "Liao Junjie," and according to Baidu's records, the general manager of CE is named "Liao Yujun," who is married with one son. What a coincidence!
And there's more. We know that when numerous negative rumors first surfaced, they were dismissed by Lele's fans as baseless slander, claiming there was no evidence. But interestingly, about four-fifths of these incidents occurred at CE. If this connection holds, it means the fans were given reassurance from above, knowing CE would suppress the evidence, thus boldly shielding their idol. Doesn't this amount to being blatant accomplices in crime?...
Wen Yu scrolled down. Lele was indeed very popular, his fanbase comprised all sorts. Even with such solid evidence, a perfunctory apology letter was enough for countless people to rally and proclaim his innocence.
Suddenly, another notification popped up.
Wen Yu swiped it open—someone revealed that CE Hotel's management was inadequate, and valuable items were frequently lost there.
Many people commented sharing similar experiences.
Wen Yu noticed a new comment.
[Ultimate Critic]: The hotel where celebrity Liao was drugged is CE, by the way.
Wen Yu's expression grew somewhat serious.
So he's holding a grudge because I messed up his plans—he must have remembered me from that encounter in front of the CE elevator.
But what’s the point of telling the interviewer that I was already chosen for the position?
Just to screw with me?
Or perhaps...
Wen Yu's pupils contracted sharply.
Ding—
Wen Yu lowered his gaze.
The interview... didn't work out.
