    Chapter 67: End

Dou Ya’er was still just a baby—not even in kindergarten yet. She grasped only the literal meaning of words and responded simply. She tossed her dad’s phone onto the carpet, stepped over the camera, lifted the hem of her strawberry-patterned top, and revealed her soft, round, white belly, proudly declaring, “Baby’s got so much chubby!”

Due to the camera angle, Bian Han could only see Dou Ya’er’s short, so-called “invincibly long legs” from below, along with a small, protruding, snow-skin-mochi-like frog belly.

“Don’t listen to your dad, baby—you’re not fat at all!”

The thought of Fu Yuze putting Dou Ya’er on a diet made Bian Han furious. Her little grandchild loved eating so much!

“She’s already had three little meals this morning.”

Fu Yuze picked up his daughter and settled her on his shoulder. As he retrieved the phone and walked toward the kitchen, he explained, “I’m not trying to make her lose weight. What Ya’er meant was she’s urging me to cook. I told her she could call A Ning when it was time for lunch.”

Actually, Bian Han had misinterpreted him this way many times before—but she still refused to believe him.

It was because Dou Ya’er was still at an age where she bore no responsibility for what she said. Every time she adorably and cutely blurted out things that landed her daddies in trouble with the older generation—prompting scoldings and apologies.

Chinese culture is vast and profound.

Dou Ya’er, who hadn’t even started kindergarten yet, though highly focused and clever, remained fundamentally uneducated—just like her dad, who’d never received a modern education.

That’s why so many misunderstandings occurred.

After some patient explanation—and a few kisses from Dou Ya’er—Bian Han finally hung up without grumbling. She even discussed with Fu Yuze plans to take Jiang Jining and Dou Ya’er on a trip together.

    Noon.

Dou Ya’er excitedly managed to call Jiang Jining.

On the other end, his gentle voice asked, “Daddy isn’t tired today—has Ya’er been eating well?”

Dou Ya’er nodded vigorously, wiggling her feet. “Mm!”

Daddy had seen the message she’d sent!

Fu Yuze watched her holding the phone with solemn concentration, reached over, removed the plate from in front of her, adjusted her bib, and began feeding her bite by bite.

There was never any need to urge her—

Dou Ya’er would open wide with an “awoo!” for each big bite—an incredibly easy baby to feed.

So it was understandable why Bian Han considered Fu Yuze putting Dou Ya’er on a diet such a heinous crime.

Before the child was born, Fu Yuze had also worried Jiang Jining might give birth to a picky eater. He himself bore partial responsibility—he’d been a picky eater as a child.

This gene… was truly a bit of a headache.

Especially after giving birth to Ya’er, Jiang Jining reverted to his pre-pregnancy eating habits. The enormous appetite he’d had during pregnancy vanished without a trace. Starting right after delivery, his weight began dropping day by day—and eating small, frequent meals had absolutely no effect.

The whole family grew so anxious they started losing hair.

Neither dad set a good example—but surprisingly, a good sprout came from bad bamboo: unexpectedly, Dou Ya’er, this little one, showed signs of being a hearty eater from the very start of breastfeeding. Back then, everyone had adopted a wait-and-see attitude. Her true colors emerged only when she took her first bite of solid food.

Dou Ya’er’s big, round eyes instantly lit up. She took bite after bite, her chubby little hands eagerly reaching for the bowl.

By the time she turned one and a half, Dou Ya’er basically no longer needed to be fed.

    Occasional help was fine.

Fu Yuze also thoroughly enjoyed the pleasure of feeding his daughter.

“Fu Yuze.” Jiang Jining turned to tell him again, “Tonight, after Aunt Tao gives Ya’er a bath, bring her to our room. I was out today and didn’t spend time with her—don’t let her sleep alone.”

Fu Yuze saw Dou Ya’er’s long, fan-like eyelashes fluttering, her eyes curving into happy crescents. Knowing she was overjoyed, the corners of his mouth lifted in a faint smile as he agreed with his husband: “Okay.”

Originally, he’d wanted to spend an intimate night together.

Looks like it would have to be postponed for a few days.

That evening, Jiang Jining didn’t return to Xie Ting until seven o’clock—feeling both physically exhausted and deeply fulfilled. Taking the elevator alone to the second floor, he witnessed an incredibly adorable scene—

    “Daddy!”

Dou Ya’er wore a floral nightgown in painterly hues.

Fresh from her bath, her hair dried, her skin clean and fair.

To make brushing easier, Aunt Tao had tied her hair into a round, fluffy bun. The little one, smelling sweet all over, was being carried single-handedly by Fu Yuze, nestled against his chest—just about to open the master bedroom door to take his daughter to bed and wait for sleep.

Jiang Jining didn’t miss this cute moment.

Seeing him, Fu Yuze turned halfway, facing the elevator entrance. “You’re back.”

Jiang Jining casually removed his smartwatch and phone, handing them to Fu Yuze. Smiling, he took over his soft, cuddly daughter. The moment he held her, he felt a pair of short little legs wrap tightly around his waist.

Dou Ya’er never hid her affection for Daddy. She snuggled against his shoulder, cooing, “Missed you so much.”

Jiang Jining instantly felt like he was soaking in warm water—his fatigue melted away. Holding his daughter close, everything felt healing and comforting. Supporting her little bottom, he walked around with her for a couple of circles.

His baby had been so good today.

Jiang Jining carried his daughter into the bedroom with Fu Yuze, asking, “Why didn’t you let Ya’er call me?”

Otherwise, why would Dou Ya’er have sent him a message using Uncle Lu’s WeChat?

“If left unchecked, she could call three times an hour.” Fu Yuze stated this bluntly: “I’ve limited her to calling you only during mealtimes—it also serves as a reminder for you and your brother not to get too caught up in work when it’s time to eat.”

Jiang Jining smiled and placed his daughter on the bed. “Makes sense.”

“Daddy, hold me.” Dou Ya’er clung to Jiang Jining like a little tail—refusing to be separated from him at all, as if her tiny feet touching the bed would prick her with thorns.

Jiang Jining had no choice but to pick her up again.

Dou Ya’er wasn’t like a few-month-old baby anymore. The over-thirty-pound weight her dad had lovingly fed her was solid. Lifting her again like a boomerang, Jiang Jining found it slightly taxing.

Fu Yuze went to the head of the bed to raise the guardrail—worried his daughter, who loved bouncing on the bed, might roll off. Seeing the situation, he conveniently lifted the little one back. “Daddy’s tired. Stand by yourself for a bit.”

Only then did Dou Ya’er agree to stand on the bed.

But not long after, she dove back into Jiang Jining’s arms, rolling around.

In doing so, her soft, smooth hair loosened the large floral scrunchie. She loved the sensation of long hair brushing against her face.

    So comfortable.

But Dou Ya'er had a favorite thing she loved to do.

Without a second thought, she picked up a strand of Jiang Jining's hair and used it as a beard, holding it under her cute little nose to sniff.

    Papa smells so good!

Jiang Jining, feeling dusty from the day outside, didn't want to dirty his daughter's freshly washed face. Remembering her little habit, he said, "Papa's going to take a quick shower first, then I'll be right back."

Dou Ya'er bounced in place twice, climbed to the middle of her dads' big bed, and picked up her little blanket and pillow. "Okay!"

Jiang Jining gave her cheek an affectionate pat and smiled.

"Come here." Fu Yuze came out of the walk-in closet as Jiang Jining turned, holding a clean towel and pajamas, and took him by the wrist.

Jiang Jining was used to it.

Dou Ya'er rolled back and forth on the big bed, then stood up and strolled around with her hands behind her back. The bathroom door was wide open at first, and she could still see Daddy helping Papa wash his hair on the sofa chair while holding onto the bed rail.

Then she heard the buzzing sound...

    Papa was blow-drying his hair!

Roughly an hour later, Fu Yuze came out and went into the walk-in closet, and grabbed a fresh bathrobe. Before closing the bathroom door, he instructed his daughter, "Papa is very tired, so Daddy's going to help him bathe. Ya'er, wait a little longer, okay?"

Dou Ya'er looked up from her little picture book. "Alright then."

    And so she waited.

Who knows how long she waited.

So long that little Dou Ya'er had curled up under the covers and dozed off on her own. She rubbed her eyes with her little hands, snuggled into the side where Jiang Jining usually slept, and surrounded by the familiar, comforting scent, she quickly couldn't hold on any longer.

She woke up again to an even stronger, sweeter scent.

Dou Ya'er felt herself being picked up by a pair of soft arms. Her little hands instinctively reached for Jiang Jining's hair, grabbed it, and placed it against her face. The ends of his hair fell on her chest, and she could even hug it.

She loved sleeping nestled in Papa's hair the most.

Dou Ya'er groggily woke up for a couple of seconds and noticed Daddy was trimming her little fingernails and toenails. Looking up, she saw Papa's face glowing with a healthy, rosy hue, even his thin eyelids tinged with pink. When he looked down at her, his eyes were full of affection and tenderness.

She snuggled back into Jiang Jining's arms and fell fast asleep again.

    Hmph.

Why did they only come to bed now?

In Dou Ya'er's memory, this kind of thing wasn't rare. Usually, she could tell if her two dads had been kissing by whether Papa's face suddenly turned red.

Daddy seems to really like her Papa.

But then, you can't blame Daddy.

Little Dou Ya'er and Papa are both so good-looking, of course Daddy happily holds them in the palm of his hand!
