Chapter 55
by 公子寻欢Chapter 55
Lu Yunqi was at a complete loss for words. He grabbed Murong Jie's hand and placed it on his lower abdomen, saying, "You really are... I've told you countless times, I'm pregnant, I'm pregnant. Why won't you believe me? Last time you made that thing of yours so big, you almost fucked the baby right out of me! I took over half a month to recover, and then rushed straight here to find you. Ugh, why are we still yapping about this? Are you going to do it or not?"
Lu Yunqi said all that with a totally chill look on his face, but Murong Jie's expression completely shifted. He shook his head hard and said, "No, no, this isn't right... Lu Yunqi, you're a man. How can a man possibly get pregnant?"
Lu Yunqi couldn't help but laugh. He turned on his side, propping his head up with one hand, and said, "If it's not your child in my belly, then what do you think it is? Did I grow some kind of monster in there? You already felt the fetal movement. If it's not yours, then whose is it?"
Seeing Murong Jie still doubting everything, he continued, "I told you ages ago that my body's special and I can get pregnant, but you wouldn't believe me. Those two imperial doctors were too scared to take the blame, so they didn't dare tell you about my pregnancy—they were scared I'd kill them. But you—"
Before Lu Yunqi could finish, Murong Jie had already yanked on his clothes and bolted out of the tent.
Lu Yunqi yelled after him, "Hey, where are you going?"
Murong Jie didn't reply, just shouted from outside, "Put your clothes on!"
Lu Yunqi was completely done with him. What the hell is wrong with him? I came all this way to see him, he gets my pants off, and then he just bolts?
Lu Yunqi went back to gnawing on the lamb leg, bored out of his mind. As he chewed, his stomach started churning again. The lamb was rich and tasty, but too much of it didn't agree with him. His morning sickness was still hanging around.
Just then, he heard two sets of hurried footsteps outside the tent. Lu Yunqi looked up and saw Murong Jie dragging the military physician inside.
The physician, an old man lugging his medicine box, was being dragged along, gasping for air. He panted as he said, "Oh, Your Highness, you're gonna be the death of me! What's so damn urgent in the middle of the night? Who's sick or injured? Can't you just bring whoever it is to the medical tent? These old bones of mine can't handle this kinda abuse! I'm specifically here to treat Lord Nine Thousand Years—if he hadn't insisted on keeping me in the Wolf Battalion, I would've..."
The physician looked up and caught Lu Yunqi's eye. His face showed surprise as he said, "Young Prince? What're you doing here? Oh... you came to see the Prince?"
Lu Yunqi went "ah" and said, "Uncle Huang! What are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
The physician let out a sigh and said, "His Highness Prince Cang insisted on dragging me here. You feeling sick, Young Prince?"
Lu Yunqi caught on right away. "Oh," he said. "No, I'm not sick. But there's a little something I need you to check out. Come here, Uncle Huang, take my pulse and see if I'm... in good shape or not."
Uncle Huang didn't think twice. He regularly checked the Lu family's pulses for routine health stuff, so he figured this was just the usual.
So Uncle Huang stepped forward and placed his hand on Lu Yunqi's pale, fair wrist. But the second his fingers hit the pulse, his face changed. He sucked in a sharp breath. "Something's off..."
Uncle Huang muttered under his breath, focusing hard on the pulse under his fingers. After a long pause, he asked hesitantly, "Young Prince... have you... been feeling any discomfort lately?"
Lu Yunqi grinned and replied, "I've been feeling queasy and puking, can't keep food down, sleepy, dizzy, and weak all over. And there's something hopping around in my belly, like a little kitten scratching at my stomach from inside."
Uncle Huang was shocked. He stood up and paced around the tent a few times before finally speaking: "Young Master, you've been a boy since you were little—I could never be wrong about that. I even held you over the potty when you were a kid."
Lu Yunqi's lips twitched. "Uncle Huang, can we not bring that up?"
Murong Jie said coldly, "Uncle Huang, what's wrong with him? Is he sick? Heatstroke?"
Uncle Huang looked exasperated and tapped Murong Jie on the head. "Sick? Heatstroke? The Young Prince has always been in good health—how could he suddenly come down with so many ailments at once? Besides, it's already September. Where would he get heatstroke?"
Murong Jie pressed his lips together, still refusing to believe that Lu Yunqi could possibly be...
Uncle Huang sighed and said, "I've practiced medicine for decades, and I've never encountered such a case in my entire life. The Young Prince's pulse is unmistakably a smooth pregnancy pulse, and he's already over four months along. By now, there should be strong fetal movement. The child is healthy and vigorous, with a strong constitution... it's a boy."
This was the first time Lu Yunqi had ever seen such shock and disbelief on Murong Jie's face. He shook his head forcefully and said, "This... this is impossible... how could this be? He... he's a man. How can a man possibly be pregnant?"
Uncle Huang shook his head. "You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? It's certainly not the Young Prince's problem, so it must be yours, Your Highness! Perhaps you were born with the ability to make men pregnant?"
Lu Yunqi: ...
Great. All of his father's subordinates were nothing but blind loyalists.
Murong Jie was also getting confused. He asked, "Is... is that so?"
Uncle Huang said, "It can only be that. It can't possibly be our Young Prince's fault, right?"
Lu Yunqi couldn't listen anymore. He cleared his throat and said, "Alright, Uncle Huang, you should go get some rest! And please, don't tell anyone about my pregnancy! Keep it a secret for me!"
Uncle Huang patted his chest and said, "Young Prince, rest assured. Old Huang here may not be good at many things, but my lips are sealed tight!"
Lu Yunqi nodded as he escorted Uncle Huang out of the tent, waving at him from a distance. "Take care, Uncle Huang!"
Only after Uncle Huang had disappeared did Lu Yunqi cheerfully return to the tent. He draped an arm over Murong Jie's shoulder and said, "Shall we continue?"
Murong Jie looked at him in utter disbelief and asked, "You're still in the mood to continue? You... after hearing this news, don't you feel the slightest urge to explain yourself to me?"
Lu Yunqi looked completely innocent and asked, "Is there anything to explain? If anything, you should be apologizing to me. I told you so many times, but you never believed me. Look—your son has been in my belly for over four months now. Do you finally believe me?"
What awaited Lu Yunqi was a room full of silence. He turned to look at Murong Jie, and his heart suddenly began to pound. He had firmly believed that if he bore Murong Jie's child, he would surely spare his life for the sake of the baby.
But now... had he really bet correctly?
Would Murong Jie... really... really... love children?
He instinctively took a step back, his confidence severely lacking as he asked warily, "What... what's wrong with you?"
What greeted him, however, was an incredibly tight embrace, along with the faint sound of sobbing from the darkness.
