Chapter 80: Extra Story 1
by 林下躲雨Chapter 80: Extra 1
Since they were planning to have a child, after the Dragon Boat Festival, Yan Fengan had Aqiu invite a physician from Baoning Hall to examine Wen Xi.
The physician took Wen Xi's pulse and, upon withdrawing his hand, stroked his beard and said with a smile, "Master Yan's husband has a calm and strong pulse, a sign of flourishing qi and blood."
He then observed Wen Xi's complexion, noting the natural peach-blossom flush on his cheeks, and nodded approvingly. "A ruddy complexion and a vibrant red mole between the brows—clearly a sign of fertility."
Wen Xi had been somewhat worried about his health, but hearing the physician's words, a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth without him realizing.
When he had first married into the Yan family, the village doctor had said he was frail and weak, not as likely to conceive as other men like him. Although the Yan family had never shown him any disdain, Wen Xi had still harbored some anxiety.
Now, hearing such a different diagnosis from the physician, the tension in his heart eased considerably.
In recent years, though he had rarely used medicinal remedies to regulate his health, he had never shortchanged himself in terms of diet. Especially when Li Wan was pregnant and giving birth, he had shared in plenty of chicken, duck, and fish every day. After all that time eating well, his body was now incomparably healthier than when he'd been in the Wen household.
Wen Xi tilted his head slightly to look at Yan Fengan, giving him a shy, happy smile.
Yan Fengan smiled and reached out to gently stroke the back of his neck, then rested his own wrist on the physician's pulse pillow. "Doctor Wang, please examine me as well."
"Very well." Doctor Wang reached out and took his pulse, then said after finishing, "Master Yan's pulse is calm and strong, with no signs of depletion. There's nothing wrong on your end either."
Doctor Wang had also treated Yan Fengan during his previous illness and knew the two had been married for a good while. As he placed the pulse pillow back into his medicine box, he reassured them, "You are both strong and healthy, in the prime of your youth. When the time is right, the child will come naturally."
Wen Xi nodded. Such matters couldn't be rushed anyway. Since the physician had said their bodies were fine, he believed the child would come in due time.
Yan Fengan paid the consultation fee and got up to see Doctor Wang out. At the courtyard gate, Doctor Wang stopped and quietly said a few more things to him.
Yan Fengan cupped his hands in salute with a blank expression. "Thank you for the advice, Doctor Wang. I'll keep it in mind."
Doctor Wang waved his hand and soon left with his medicine box.
Inside, Wen Xi sat in a chair, slowly sipping tea from a cup. When Yan Fengan came in, Wen Xi pulled a handkerchief from his waist, dabbed the corner of his mouth, and asked, "What did Doctor Wang tell you?"
If the inner room weren't so far from the courtyard gate, Yan Fengan would have suspected Wen Xi had overheard. Remembering what Doctor Wang had said, Yan Fengan felt a mischievous urge rise in him.
He sat down on the other chair. "He said quite a lot. Do you want to know?" He beckoned Wen Xi with a crooked finger. "Come here, and I'll tell you then."
He'd been with him for quite a while now, and Wen Xi knew full well that his husband only seemed proper on the surface—in certain moments, he was no different from the scholars in those romance novels.
He knew if he actually listened and went over, he'd inevitably be teased a bit. Even so, Wen Xi still lowered his eyes and stood up. He'd barely taken a step when Yan Fengan grabbed his hand and yanked him into his arms.
"Ah..." Wen Xi let out a startled gasp. Before he could even get settled, the man behind him laughed and nibbled on his earlobe. "Aqiu is still here—don't be so loud."
Wen Xi's jade-like face flushed crimson. He grabbed Yan Fengan's hand as it snuck into his thin clothes, muttering angrily, "If you know he's here, why are you still teasing me?"
"How am I teasing you?" Even though Wen Xi had pinned his hand down, Yan Fengan kept up his mischief, his fingers kneading and stroking Wen Xi's smooth, slender waist without a care, his hot breath fanning across the back of Wen Xi's neck. "Wasn't it you who wanted to hear what Doctor Wang said? I was being nice and about to tell you, so why are you turning it around on me?"
The skin on Wen Xi's waist grew hot from his pinching, and the rest of his body tingled as if ants were crawling all over him. Though he knew Aqiu wouldn't come barging in unless summoned, he still felt a lingering embarrassment at the thought of being caught.
Biting his lip, he glanced outside, and only after hearing nothing did he retort with feigned boldness, "Doctor Wang clearly didn't say anything. You're definitely just making that up to mess with me."
Yan Fengan pretended not to notice Wen Xi subtly rubbing against him, instead saying with a perfectly straight face, "I never lie..." That sounded too absolute, so he added, "At least I never lie to you."
He whispered a few things in Wen Xi's ear, and the more he said, the redder Wen Xi's ears got, until they looked ready to bleed.
Even if Doctor Wang had said something, it definitely wouldn't have been as blunt as what Yan Fengan was claiming.
No, this wasn't just blunt—it was simply... simply...
Wen Xi didn't want to use words like that to describe his own husband, but hearing such lewd talk was just too much for him. So he just gave up and slapped his hands over his ears, as if not hearing it would make everything okay.
All he had to do was stand up and give Yan Fengan a sharp scolding, and Yan Fengan would stop messing with him. Yet instead, aside from covering his ears, he remained leaning against Yan Fengan without moving. Even when Yan Fengan's fingers slipped into his thin, soft gauze trousers, he instinctively lifted his hips.
The overly familiar motion startled them both. Realizing what he had done, Wen Xi's face burned as if about to explode, and he wished he could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
Yan Fengan inhaled the fragrance from his neck and let out a muffled laugh behind him. Wen Xi, trying to cover up his embarrassment, pressed down hard on him, thinking that would stop his mischief.
Yan Fengan smiled, gently stroking his cheek with his other hand. "Alright, no more teasing. My hand hurts—lift up a bit more."
Wen Xi was skeptical but shifted slightly, intending to stand, when Yan Fengan's calloused fingers slipped in deftly.
"..."
Wen Xi didn't even manage a gasp before Yan Fengan covered his mouth.
His body curved slightly, as if struggling, yet also as if welcoming eagerly. The fragrance from his skin grew stronger with the sweat that seeped out, exuding an aroma that Yan Fengan loved and was intoxicated by.
Wen Xi's toes curled tightly. He resented Yan Fengan's recklessness, yet also resented that he wouldn't give him release. Even a cornered rabbit would bite—he opened his mouth and bit down on Yan Fengan's finger.
His bite wasn't even enough to tickle Yan Fengan, who teased and laughed at him while whispering lewd nonsense in his ear. He was the one bullying him, yet he claimed Wen Xi was being greedy in broad daylight.
Wen Xi, puffing with anger, reached out and squeezed randomly, and only when Yan Fengan whimpered and begged for mercy in his ear did he feel somewhat satisfied.
See? It wasn't just Yan Fengan who could tease—he was quite good at causing trouble too.
When they returned to the side room to change clothes, Yan Fengan walked calmly to the door and glanced outside. Only after hearing sounds from the kitchen did he turn back and nod at Wen Xi.
Wen Xi's eyes and brows carried a faint blush. He walked slowly to Yan Fengan and tried to glare at him with feigned displeasure.
Yan Fengan found him utterly adorable in that state and reached up to pat his head, but Wen Xi quickly dodged away.
Knowing what Wen Xi was bothered by, Yan Fengan chuckled. "Didn't you already wipe it clean with the handkerchief just now?"
Wen Xi pulled him toward the side room, muttering, "That doesn't count."
They changed clothes in the room, and Wen Xi went to the kitchen to fetch water for him to wash his hands. Fearing Aqiu might find it odd, he made up an excuse that Yan Fengan had gotten ink on his hands.
Aqiu suspected nothing, but Wen Xi's heart was in turmoil, thinking he could never indulge Yan Fengan's mischief again.
Yet his bottom line with Yan Fengan had always been lowering, bit by bit. No matter how well he resolved during the day, by night, all his shyness and embarrassment were cast aside.
At such times, Yan Fengan no longer covered his mouth but instead coaxed him to cry out in various ways.
Back in the countryside, with so many people in the household, they hadn't dared make much noise. But now that they'd moved to the city, there was no such concern.
The workers went home at the appointed hour, leaving only the two of them in the large courtyard. Yan Fengan naturally no longer restrained him.
Wen Xi, accustomed to holding back, still kept his voice soft, only occasionally letting out a startled cry when Yan Fengan was particularly forceful.
Yan Fengan would catch his tongue, kiss his lips, and whisper praises in his ear before coaxing Wen Xi to let his voice out fully.
After they were both exhausted, it still wasn't over. Yan Fengan wiped the fine sweat from Wen Xi's body with a damp cloth and, unlike before, no longer pulled out—instead, he placed his own soft pillow beneath Wen Xi.
Wen Xi, half-lidded, gave a languid, puzzled look as Yan Fengan said, "The physician said to do this."
Wen Xi's lips moved, and he mumbled a few vague words.
"What?" Yan Fengan didn't catch it, leaning his ear close to Wen Xi's lips. It took a moment before he made out Wen Xi's words: "The doctor isn't as much of a flirt as you are."
Yan Fengan smiled and kissed him: "I swear, the doctor really did say that."
Wen Xi snorted. If that was true, then everything before must've been a lie.
He reached out and pinched Yan Fengan's ear, scolding him playfully: "You big liar."
Even as he called him a liar, when Yan Fengan lay down, Wen Xi couldn't help but snuggle up against him, asking drowsily: "Can we really make a baby this way?"
Yan Fengan figured that a healthy omega and a man together were bound to conceive, no matter what. So when Wen Xi asked, he answered without hesitation: "Of course we can."
"If you don't get pregnant, that means I'm not doing my part. Don't worry, I'll work hard at it every day."
Wen Xi couldn't help laughing and thumped him with his fist. With all those tricks of his, how could he not be doing enough?
Maybe it was Yan Fengan's daily efforts that made Wen Xi's body react by July.
At first, he just lost his appetite. Then, the smell of anything greasy made him gag.
He couldn't actually throw up, but a sick feeling stayed stuck in his chest. Aqiu stirred some osmanthus honey into warm water for him, and after Wen Xi recovered, Aqiu said: "Young master, could you be pregnant?"
Since she'd had two kids herself, she knew the symptoms were just like morning sickness.
Wen Xi froze at her words, then joy bloomed in his chest. But without a doctor's confirmation, he didn't dare assume anything.
"I don't know."
Aqiu helped him sit up properly and added: "Don't worry. I'll go inform the master first, then head to Baoning Hall to fetch a doctor for you."
"Mm..." With nothing confirmed yet, Wen Xi didn't want to make a fuss, but at that moment he really wanted Yan Fengan by his side. After hesitating briefly, he nodded.
The school was close by, so before Wen Xi could even gather his thoughts, Yan Fengan was already there.
Wen Xi, dazed and unsure what to say to Yan Fengan, simply reached out a hand toward him. When Yan Fengan stepped close, Wen Xi wrapped his arms around his waist, resting his head dependently against his abdomen.
Yan Fengan gently stroked the top of his head and said softly: "The doctor will be here soon. Don't overthink it."
Wen Xi wasn't thinking about anything, just feeling a bit anxious. That anxiety only disappeared after Aqiu brought Doctor Wang over and confirmed he was indeed pregnant.
What followed was another kind of joy. Wen Xi touched his belly, which showed no signs yet, exchanged a glance with Yan Fengan, and both their eyes revealed smiles they couldn't hide.
