Chapter 85
byChapter 85
The alpha wolf was the first to rush out of the cave, followed by the rest of the pack.
The mother wolf, upon hearing the deep howls outside, immediately stood up, rousing the cubs and carrying one towards the cave's exit.
"The remaining pups seemed accustomed to this, following their mother outside."
Xiao Fu, still oblivious to what was happening, saw this as an opportunity to escape and quickly blended in with the wolf cubs.
Outside the cave, a fierce battle ensued, with the wolf pack engaged in a deadly fight against another group.
They were zombie wolves.
Their patchy fur was mostly fallen off, revealing the dark, rotting flesh underneath. From the dull fur that remained, it was evident these zombie wolves were once part of the snow wolf clan.
Former comrades-in-arms had turned into relentless, undead enemies. The snow wolves fiercely tore at their foes, their silent blue eyes filled with murderous intent and hatred.
The zombie wolves were no less formidable, matching in size and strength. Even injured, they showed no weakness, their blood-red eyes filled with endless cruelty and greed.
The battle between the two wolf packs was fierce, with the pristine snow quickly stained by blood. In just a few minutes, both sides suffered casualties.
The mother wolf did not glance at her kin; she had her responsibilities, vigilantly scanning her surroundings, leading her cubs away from the dangerous battlefield.
The intense and bloody scene left the wolf cubs trembling in fear, silently following their mother without any delay or play.
Xiao Fu was not scared; it had seen countless zombies, even leisurely eating dog food or watching zombies being flung into the air during fights. But now, it was alone without its companions.
Here, it was just a dog, and it seemed it had never fought zombies before, nor was it capable of doing so.
Xiao Fu: “......”
The timid Xiao Fu immediately lowered its head and tucked in its tail, understanding that surviving and escaping this place was a priority, even if it wanted to find its owner.
The mother wolf planned to detour from the mountainside to the back of the mountain, then lead her cubs downhill to escape. However, two zombie wolves appeared from the side, blocking their path.
The mother wolf put down the cub, took an attacking stance, and charged at the enemy with a roar.
The zombie wolves, equal in strength to the snow wolves but unafraid of pain and more ferocious, fought fiercely. The mother wolf single-handedly held off two zombie wolves.
The cubs, unsure what to do, stopped in place. Ahead was their mother's battlefield, and behind was their kin's. Trapped in the middle, the cubs yelped in panic.
The alpha wolf heard and saw them but was surrounded by three zombie wolves and couldn't help. It growled fiercely at the cubs standing still, then resumed its fight with the three wolves.
“Run!”
The cubs understood their father's command and scattered in all directions.
Without discussion or an adult wolf's guidance, they didn’t know where to run. A chubby, clueless one even ran towards the battlefield.
Xiao Fu: “......”
It didn't understand the language but grasped the situation.
"Ah, why is that foolish one running towards the battlefield? Does it have a death wish?"
Xiao Fu immediately dashed over to block the cub, biting its tail and dragging it in the opposite direction.
“Woof, woof, woof!” Follow me.
Now caught between two fronts, Xiao Fu led the foolish cub downhill. Although the zombie wolves could still see them, the open space at the mountain's base provided a wide view, allowing them to spot any ambushes.
The other wolf cubs, as if finding a leader, followed Xiao Fu as they ran down the mountain.
Xiao Fu, endowed with a speed-enhancing ability, ran incredibly fast, its form nearly a blur. However, leading a group of chubby little wolves, it had to slow down, even herding back any straying cubs.
Although not a sheepdog, Xiao Fu was now expertly herding wolves, a task it had never trained for, becoming a proficient wolfherder in the process.
Leading the cubs downhill, a zombie wolf that had pursued them from the mountain caught up. One of the snow wolves fell in battle, tipping the evenly matched fight in the undead's favor. The remaining snow wolves fought fiercely, but without tearing off their heads, these zombie wolves wouldn’t die.
The adult zombie wolf, with its massive build and long limbs, was much faster than the young wolves and caught up with them at the foot of the mountain.
The cubs, only a month old, had already witnessed the brutality of zombie wolves, their cruelty etched in their minds. Cornered, they yelped in panic, their small, newly-grown teeth futilely baring in threat, their limbs and tails quivering with fear.
The zombie wolf growled at the cubs, its sharp white teeth stained with blood from the battle, the overwhelming stench of blood hitting them hard. The little wolves were so terrified that they immediately sat down on the snow.
A huge paw pinned down one of the tiny cubs, the fluffy little wolf letting out a pitiful cry. The sharp teeth of the zombie wolf drew closer, ready to crush the cub’s head with just a bit more proximity.
"Bang!"
The zombie wolf was sent flying.
Dazed, Xiao Fu stood in front of the cub, barking at the fallen zombie wolf. Although only slightly bigger than the cubs and far smaller than the adult zombie wolf, its high-speed headbutt was not to be underestimated, sending the undead wolf flying.
The pinned cub struggled to its feet, and the other cubs gathered around. Xiao Fu knew its limitations; its priority wasn’t to fight but to...
Run!
“Woof, woof!” Run, run!
Xiao Fu took the lead, and the cubs followed close behind.
The zombie wolf, in agony from the impact, felt as if its bones were broken, but such injuries were negligible for it. It immediately rose and gave chase again.
Despite the cubs’ desperate running, they couldn’t outpace the adult zombie wolf. Each time it caught up, Xiao Fu would launch its ability, striking with a super-speed headbutt.
A regular snow wolf would have been down for the count by now, but the zombie wolf’s resilience was remarkable; it got up and pursued them each time it was hit.
The cubs looked up to Xiao Fu with admiration; in their eyes, Xiao Fu was incredibly brave, blocking the enemy and knocking the villain away without changing expression.
The seemingly unfazed Xiao Fu was actually on the verge of tears: “My head... hurts so much.”
As they panted and ran through the snow for their lives, two more zombie wolves chased after them.
This also meant another snow wolf had died.
Little Fu, too, was in a dilemma; it had only one head, while the zombie wolves had three!
With three zombie wolves closing in, Little Fu was at a loss. It could escape as a dog, running fast enough to evade anyone, but the little wolf cubs trailing behind would be devoured.
What to do, what to do!
Suddenly, Little Fu stopped. The little wolves, running at full speed behind, couldn't brake in time and crashed into Little Fu's rear, sending it face-first into the snow.
"Awoo?"
The leading Little Fu stopped, and the other little wolves, though unsure why, also halted and huddled together, showing fierce little faces to the surrounding zombie wolves.
Pulling its head out of the snow, Little Fu didn't run this time but looked at the zombie wolves with a strange expression.
It was a look of triumph, contempt, and a hint of fighting spirit.
The zombie wolves, unable to decipher such complex emotions, sensed it was time to feast.
But before they could lunge at the wolf cubs' heads, Little Fu bravely charged, biting into the neck of one zombie wolf and shaking its head fiercely to tear at it.
Surprised by the cub's audacity, the zombie wolf, in a rage, tried to retaliate, but Little Fu's small size and position on the neck made it hard to bite back.
As another zombie wolf moved in for a bite, Little Fu agilely ran off. Faster than the zombie wolves, it vomited a few times in the snow, then immediately charged at another zombie wolf.
Little Fu: "So stinky, and so dirty, eww~"
The little wolves watched Little Fu grappling with the three zombie wolves, their deep blue eyes sparkling with stars, utterly admiring it.
Unaware of its newfound super loyal little fans, or rather little wolf fans, Little Fu fought with all its might, drawing endless strength and courage from within.
Because it knew it wasn't alone anymore.
It had caught the scent of its master.
Though smaller in size, with less sharp teeth and weaker strength compared to the zombie wolves, Little Fu still managed to hold off the three, preventing them from harming the little wolves.
Meanwhile, a silver-white RV was speeding towards them. Lin An, sensing Little Fu's scent, excitedly leaned against the window, shouting Little Fu's name loudly.
The pale yellow dog stood out starkly against the pristine white snow, as Shen Xiuzhe skillfully drifted the RV to a stop not far away.
The vehicle had barely stopped before Lin An rushed out from the back, impatient to reach the scene.
"Little Fu!"
Hearing his master's voice, Little Fu, invigorated as if injected with adrenaline, growled low and charged at the zombie wolves.
Lin An immediately witnessed this scene upon disembarking. Against the backdrop of the zombie wolves' enormous size, Little Fu looked like a tiny puppy, now being bullied by three massively larger zombie wolves!
In that moment, his heart felt like it stopped.
Although, technically, his heart had already ceased beating.
"Little Fu!"
As Lin An called out in urgent concern, the three zombie wolves, poised to attack, began to freeze from their feet, quickly encased in ice that spread to their entire bodies, turning them into ice sculptures.
Little Fu skidded to a halt, fortunately, or else its teeth might have shattered against the ice.
Seeing its master running towards him, Little Fu happily turned and sprinted towards him.
"Woof woof!" Master~
Plunging into Lin An's embrace, Little Fu gently nuzzled in his arms, its tail wagging furiously, overwhelmed with joy.
"Woof woof woof woof."
Master master master master~
Affectionately licking and nuzzling his master, Lin An, reunited with his pet, indulged Little Fu this time, not pulling away immediately.
Once the excited Little Fu calmed down a bit, it realized that it wasn't the only one in the master's arms; the pack of little wolf cubs had also followed it when it ran towards Lin An.
They cuddled against the master when Little Fu was nuzzling contentedly and licked him when Little Fu did so joyously.
Little Fu, belatedly noticing the other cubs, wondered why its breathing was so constricted; the little wolves were squeezing it all along.
This is its master!
"Don't lick! And don't rub against me!"
Little Fu, who had just risked its life to protect the wolf cubs, looked at them with disdain, suddenly finding their presence detestable.
"Get away! He's my master, a dog's master. Don't you have your own? Why are you rubbing against my master?"
Little wolf cubs: Rubbing and nudging.
"Aaah, they're as annoying as Shen Xiuzhe!"
