Chapter 66
byChapter 66: Nearly Collided with the Prime Minister's Carriage
Mo Lingwei was sitting in a reclining chair, wearing a vermilion robe, which made his golden dragon crown even more dazzling.
Thus, Shen Ningning spotted him immediately.
He was surrounded by guards.
Opposite him, two eunuchs were forcefully holding someone's head, dunking it into the water and then pulling it out, repeating the process.
They paused for a moment before starting again.
Judging by the attire, the person being dunked in the water appeared to be an official.
"Your Highness the Crown Prince... I beg for mercy, please have mercy!" the official screamed desperately, struggling as he was pulled out of the water.
Mo Lingwei, however, remained emotionless with cold eyes, "It seems you are not fully sober yet. Continue holding him down until he's had enough."
The official was mercilessly pushed back into the water by the eunuchs.
This time, he struggled fiercely, flailing his arms.
Soon, Shen Ningning noticed his arm movements getting weaker, almost ceasing.
Mo Lingwei then lazily ordered, "Pull him out."
The official, like a drowned dog, was thrown mercilessly onto the ground by the eunuchs.
He coughed out a lot of water and, using all his strength, crawled towards Mo Lingwei.
"Your Highness the Crown Prince... I won't dare again, I was wrong. I should not have accused you of murder without limits."
By the end, the official was crying in fear, his body trembling, overwhelmed by the dread of death.
Mo Lingwei, however, merely frowned slightly, his handsome and cold brows knitting together.
He looked down at his black boots, now dirtied by the wet hands of the official.
He scoffed and kicked the official away with his boot.
"I'll let you go this time, but if I hear you speak out of turn again, I will make sure you end up at the bottom of the pond."
Having said this, Mo Lingwei stood up to leave.
Suddenly, he seemed to sense something and his frosty gaze turned towards the rooftop where Shen Ningning and the others were hiding.
The little girl was still stunned by the scene she had just witnessed, unable to react, but a guard quickly and silently grabbed her, leading her away unnoticed.
Mo Lingwei dismissed it as a mistaken feeling.
He left with his entourage, his face cold.
Meanwhile, Shen Ningning was brought back to the Sixth Prince.
Mo Changgong looked at her delicate, picturesque little face, still showing shock and confusion from the recent scare.
"Shen Ningning?" he called out.
She did not respond but stared blankly ahead.
Mo Changgong was very pleased, his lips curving into a smile.
"You saw it all? That's the real nature of Mo Lingwei."
"All his interactions with you are under a false pretense, simply because he finds you interesting for now."
"But do you know? Mo Lingwei is a monster that can lose control at any moment."
"He once killed his own uncle with his bare hands and skinned him."
At the mention of skinning, Shen Ningning’s small body trembled, her tender face turning pale.
Mo Changgong slowly extended his hand, "Even I, his brother, had my limbs' tendons cut by him."
"Legend has it that the late Empress resorted to folk witchcraft for a child, and as a result, she gave birth to a demon."
"The day he was born, Father Emperor dreamt of the fires of the eighteen layers of hell rising from the ground, burning the palace and setting the world ablaze!"
"Shen Ningning, after hearing all this, do you still want to associate with him? Aren't you afraid that one day you too will be killed by him?"
Having spoken, Mo Changgong's eyes darkened with a cold intensity.
He had a purpose in saying all this.
A person like Mo Lingwei should be feared and avoided by everyone.
Who does he think he is to even dream of having friends?
Mo Changgong wants everything Mo Lingwei cares for and obtains to be lost.
"Phew..." Shen Ningning took a long breath.
Mo Changgong chuckled, "Do you understand now?"
However, the little girl patted her chest, still frightened, "I was just too scared because we flew too high... My heart almost leaped out..."
Mo Changgong's expression turned ashen in an instant!
He frowned, "What did you say?"
So her fear just now was because the guard carrying her climbed too high?!
Shen Ningning, still puffed up with anger, turned and saw the guard who had been flying around with her.
Clenching her tiny fists, she stomped fiercely on the guard’s boot.
The guard yelped in pain.
"You... you!"
"That's your punishment. If I were a bit bigger, I would have jumped up and punched you in the chin!" said the little girl, fiercely but adorably.
Her bright, black eyes then turned to the astonished Mo Changgong.
"You deliberately showed me the bad side of my brother. You are the real villain."
"When I first met my brother, he was covered in wounds. It's clear to me that he must have been bullied by you all!"
"If he really did commit any ruthless acts, it must have been because you pushed him into a corner."
Mo Changgong gritted his teeth in frustration, "You are so stubborn!"
Shen Ningning, unafraid and batting her long lashes, retorted, "It’s you who have a bad heart!"
"And don't you dare call my brother a monster! He is a good person."
Mo Changgong couldn’t stand hearing others praise Mo Lingwei.
Enraged, he ordered, "Kill her for me!"
But none of the guards dared to move.
One of them advised in a low voice, "Your Highness... this Shen Ningning is currently highly favored by the Crown Prince, and Consort Li has advised you not to provoke the Crown Prince for now."
Consort Li feared Mo Lingwei's unpredictable and vicious nature, worried he might harm her son.
Remembering Mo Lingwei’s cold-blooded gaze while cutting tendons, Mo Changgong’s face turned pale with fear.
In the end, he commanded resentfully, "Throw her out of the palace!"
A guard stepped forward and roughly grabbed Shen Ningning's arm.
The little girl struggled fiercely.
"Let go, I can walk by myself!"
However, the guard paid no heed.
Reaching the palace gate, he mercilessly threw Shen Ningning out.
The imperial guards at the gate exchanged glances.
The guard said coldly, "This girl angered His Highness the Sixth Prince, no one should interfere with her."
Shen Ningning picked herself up from the ground, rubbing her sore arm.
Tears welled up in her eyes from the pain.
Defiantly, she yelled, "Mo Changworm, you're awful!"
The guard’s face changed, about to turn and deal with her.
However, a carriage approached from afar, and the guard, seeing it, hurriedly left without bothering Shen Ningning.
Shen Ningning, rubbing her hand, turned around and nearly got hit by the rapidly approaching carriage.
Fortunately, the coachman pulled the reins in time!
The horses came to a sudden halt.
"Fortunately, she didn't run into Shen Ningning."
"A cold and authoritative voice from inside the carriage inquired, 'What happened?'"
"The coachman wiped the sweat from his forehead, 'Prime Minister, a little girl suddenly ran in front of us. Thankfully, we didn't hit her.'"
"'Go check on her, make sure she's alright.'"
"'Yes.'"
"The coachman stepped down from the carriage and saw Shen Ningning, still shaken, staring at the tall horse."
"'Little girl, are you alright?' the coachman asked."
"Shen Ningning regained her composure and gently shook her head, 'I'm fine.'"
"Her voice was soft and sweet."
"At the carriage, a slender hand parted the curtain, revealing deep and serene eyes looking outside."
"The Prime Minister only saw Shen Ningning's small skirt but did not see her face."
"She appeared to be quite young."
"Something crossed his mind, a flicker of melancholic sorrow in his eyes."
"The Prime Minister paused, then commanded in a raised voice, 'Bring her here.'"
