Chapter 47
byChapter 47
Psychic entities can sense other psychic entities of the same or lower level within their vicinity. The higher the level, the greater the range of perception.
If Qinchi's Fire Dragon were to fully unleash its senses, it could lock onto any psychic entity released within a ten-kilometer radius.
Considering that this kind of sensing consumes psychic energy, the Fire Dragon usually refrains from doing so. After all, it has no interest in ordinary psychic entities, and such behavior would violate the civilized norms of psychic entities. If detected by another entity of equal or higher level, they might come looking for a fight.
The Fire Dragon is not afraid of a fight, but Qinchi dislikes them.
The Fire Dragon also does not believe there is any stronger presence in Southeast Base, but most of the time, it behaves as a civilized dragon.
Recently, the Fire Dragon set its free-roaming time around 5:20 PM.
Qinchi was preparing ingredients in the kitchen when the Fire Dragon wandered to the southern balcony window, peering through the curtain gap, and spat out a flame word into the kitchen: "A bit late today."
Qinchi washed the vegetables slowly.
People had yet to return home, and the Fire Dragon casually observed the residents passing by the courtyard.
It did not specifically sense anything, but the sudden appearance of a psychic entity it had seen recently, a few hundred meters away, automatically triggered the Fire Dragon's senses.
The flame word flying into the kitchen carried strong emotion: "That stinky wolf is here!"
Qinchi turned off the faucet.
"Wild Bull is with him! They're fighting!"
The sound of approaching sirens could be heard outside the window.
Qinchi retracted his psychic entity, walked out of the kitchen, changed his shoes, and left.
Across from 101, Lu Yang had just received a message from Xu Qiao: "Temporary overtime, don't know how long I'll be busy. Don't wait for me."
The message was followed by an emoji of a pitiful worker.
It was indeed possible for the clinic to have temporary overtime, so Lu Yang didn't think much of it. He glanced out the window. The sirens—was there a psychic fight?
A military academy student who had awakened an A-level psychic entity less than two months ago had not undergone systematic psychic training, and his sensing range was limited.
At that moment, he saw a familiar tall figure appear in the middle of the courtyard.
Lu Yang called out through the window, "Teacher Qin, where are you going?"
Qinchi turned and smiled at the landlord: "Friends invited me to dinner. Exercise on your own tonight."
Lu Yang understood. His gaze swept over Qinchi's snow-white shirt and black trousers, suddenly feeling that although this attire clashed with the neighborhood environment, it was indeed charming.
After Qinchi drove away in his black car, the nearby sirens disappeared. Lu Yang returned to the kitchen and continued using his psychic abilities to control the knife while cutting meat.
Qinchi first drove to the section of the road where the Snow Wolf and Wild Bull psychic entities were fighting. A police car had just driven away from the other end, and several people stood by the roadside watching the commotion. Aunt Liu, pushing a stroller, was among them.
"Wearing the Guard Army uniform, at least C-level, but got beaten up like that. The other one must be B-level."
"Our house is right next door. I came out because of the noise from the car being smashed. I even heard wolf howls."
"If it's really B-level, why did he get stung on the neck? It looks like he was stung by a mutated bee."
"It was bee venom. I saw the police pick up five stingers from the ground. That girl's."
"Good thing only one car was damaged, didn't involve our neighbors."
Qinchi listened for a bit and then followed the direction the police car had taken.
There weren't many cars on the road, so Qinchi quickly spotted the police car ahead. It was a five-seater model with three people sitting side by side in the back, both flanking individuals tall and male.
Qinchi did not follow too closely.
Inside the police car, due to surveillance identifying Zhao Feng as a B-level psychic, the Second Ring West District Police Station dispatched a captain, a B-level Crow psychic entity.
Captain Gao arrived first, even before the nearby patrol car.
By now, Jiang Rui's internal injuries had mostly healed, but Xu Qiao deliberately left the surface wounds on his chest to prove the harm Zhao Feng had caused.
Of course, she had consulted Jiang Rui beforehand, giving him the choice to either alleviate the pain first or keep the injuries for the police examination.
All three wore specially designed handcuffs. Xu Qiao and Jiang Rui remained calm, but Zhao Feng was in agony, leaning his head towards Xu Qiao and complaining: "Can't you treat me first?"
Xu Qiao ignored him.
Captain Gao, having briefly understood the situation, sarcastically remarked to Zhao Feng: "When you were smashing cars and attacking the Guard Army, you seemed pretty capable. What's a little pain?"
Zhao Feng: "How many points was that car worth? I can pay ten times the value."
Captain Gao: "Hmph, high-level psychics are impressive, but the girl defending herself was justified. You brought the poisoning upon yourself. If she chooses to treat you, it's her kindness; if not, you'll have to endure it."
Zhao Feng, unable to listen to the lecture, his eyes red from pain, stared out the window: "Xu Qiao, we've been classmates for five years. Can't you help me? This poison has spread to my chin. It will affect my speech and delay your return home, won't it?"
Xu Qiao: "Once we reach the police station, I'll treat you when it's your turn to speak."
Zhao Feng stomped his feet in frustration.
After driving for about fifteen minutes, they arrived at the police station. By then, Zhao Feng's left neck and shoulder had swollen significantly, and he had to tilt his head so that his right ear almost touched his right shoulder.
Passing officers who did not know the situation assumed Zhao Feng was the victim and gave Xu Qiao and Jiang Rui a few extra glances.
Captain Gao personally handled the case.
Only then did Xu Qiao treat Zhao Feng's neck, using her psychic energy to expel the toxins from his body.
Zhao Feng's neck felt better, but he no longer had the same spirited demeanor he had when he first went to see Xu Qiao. He sat down in his seat with a sullen expression.
The surveillance footage proved that Jiang Rui and Xu Qiao acted in self-defense. Only Zhao Feng violated the base laws, and he admitted to infringing upon Jiang Rui's property and personal interests.
Although Jiang Rui was a guard soldier, he was not on duty when Zhao Feng attacked him, so it did not constitute assaulting an officer.
Captain Gao: "In Zhao Feng's case, according to the law, he should be sentenced to fifteen days of detention. Should we follow the procedure or negotiate further?"
Zhao Feng glared at Jiang Rui with a dark expression.
Jiang Rui: "No need for negotiation; everything should be done according to the law..."
Xu Qiao interrupted him with a look and said to Captain Gao, "Can we discuss this?"
Captain Gao pointed to the door. "You have three minutes."
Xu Qiao led Jiang Rui out, walking a bit farther away, and whispered, "Zhao Feng is very arrogant and very concerned about his reputation. He could have gone to The Second School, but he didn't stand out there, so he went to the Third School instead. Now he's a professional mercenary, and his team members all have B-level abilities. They seem to share the same temperament. He also has an uncle with A-level abilities. If you don't agree to negotiate, I'm afraid he might retaliate against you. You might not be afraid, but what if he retaliates against your family?"
Jiang Rui coldly replied, "If he dares to retaliate, regardless of evidence, he will be considered an enemy of the guard army."
Xu Qao looked directly into his eyes. "I admire your principles and courage, but this matter affects more than just you. At least discuss it with your family."
Jiang Rui saw deep concern in her clear eyes and couldn't help but ask, "Are you really worried about me getting hurt?"
Xu Qiao smiled bitterly. "Yes, but not because I care about you. This whole situation started because of me. If Zhao Feng really retaliates against you, I'll face pressure from all sides."
Jiang Rui: "Sorry, I..."
Xu Qiao: "No need to apologize. You were just trying to protect me from harassment. The fault lies entirely with Zhao Feng. But life isn't simply black and white. I don't want to cause any more trouble."
Jiang Rui: "I agree to negotiate, on the condition that he stops harassing you."
Xu Qiao: "This is between him and me. I'll handle it myself. Just get some economic compensation from him."
She was clearly frustrated and no longer tried to hide it.
Jiang Rui saw her clearly but knew he couldn't solve this problem for her, just as he couldn't even withstand one blow from Zhao Feng.
Jiang Rui signed a reconciliation agreement with Zhao Feng, who immediately transferred 200,000 credits to Jiang Rui as compensation for the vehicle. This was the purchase price of the car, and Jiang Rui did not seek additional compensation.
As the three were about to leave, Captain Gao called Xu Qiao over. "If Zhao Feng harasses you again, you can contact me."
In reality, Zhao Feng's stalking and harassment couldn't be legally judged. He said this hoping it would deter Zhao Feng somewhat.
Xu Qiao thanked him with a smile.
She and Jiang Rui walked ahead, while Zhao Feng followed closely behind with a sinister look. When they reached the front hall, a figure suddenly rushed over and grabbed Jiang Rui's arm anxiously. "Where are you hurt? How serious is it?"
Curly hair, well-dressed—it was Jiang Rui's mother.
Jiang Rui glanced at Xu Qiao and pulled his mother aside. "I'm fine, already treated."
Jiang's mother saw the claw marks on her son's chest and angrily turned to Zhao Feng. "Why did you hit him?"
Zhao Feng smirked. "Because he meddled where he shouldn't. To be honest, if it happens again, I'll hit him again."
Jiang's mother realized this person was unreasonable and turned to Xu Qiao, sneering, "Do you want to date my son or not? If you do, then accept it straightforwardly. He's already busy with missions and still has to travel far to see you. If not, then make it clear and stop flirting around..."
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew into Jiang's mother's mouth, making her cough. At the same time, a block of ice slammed into her face.
Jiang's mother stared at Zhao Feng as if she had seen a ghost.
Zhao Feng raised an eyebrow at Jiang Rui, surprised that he would silence his own mother to defend Xu Qiao.
Jiang Rui frowned, torn between wanting to persuade his mother not to blame Xu Qiao, wanting to teach Zhao Feng a lesson, and wanting to comfort Xu Qiao. Distracted by these thoughts, he didn't notice the gust of wind before the ice block hit his mother.
Only Xu Qiao, who didn't want to hear Jiang's mother and looked outside, recognized the familiar figure approaching from a potted peace tree in the corner.
She quickly turned away, using her ability to wipe away the tears that welled up unexpectedly.
Qinchi stopped behind her, looking at Jiang Rui. "This lady seems to lack respect. I suggest you take her away to avoid affecting our mood."
Jiang's mother took a sharp breath. Before she could explode, Jiang Rui apologized to Xu Qiao and forcibly led his mother away.
Qinchi glanced at Zhao Feng. Not knowing what had happened today between Xu Qiao and Zhao Feng, he didn't ask further. Instead, he said to Xu Qiao, "Hungry? Let's go eat. I'll treat you tonight. I told Xiaoyang about the dinner earlier."
Xu Qiao laughed and nodded, lowering her eyes.
Zhao Feng instinctively stepped in front of them, staring at Qinchi. "Who are you?"
This person posed a greater threat to him than the guard soldier, both in appearance and demeanor.
Qinchi gently asked Xu Qiao, "Is this your friend? If so, I can introduce myself."
Xu Qiao coldly replied, "No. If possible, I never want to see him again."
Zhao Feng felt a pang in his chest.
He had pursued Xu Qiao for so long, hearing countless polite and impolite rejections, but this time, the hatred in her eyes made it impossible for him to ignore.
Xu Qiao led Qinchi around him.
Zhao Feng stiffly turned around, watching them walk to a black car parked by the side of the road. He watched as the man who seemed close to Xu Qiao opened the passenger door for her, and she got in without hesitation.
The black car drove away.
Inside the car, Xu Qiao looked out the window, trying to sound natural as she asked Qinchi, "How did you know? I told Xiaoyang I had to work late tonight."
Qinchi: "My psychic entity sensed the psychic entities of those two, so I guessed the sirens might be related to you."
Xu Qiao was taken aback for a moment before she praised, "So it's that impressive."
Qinchi: "Mm, it has some merits."
