Chapter 125
by 笑佳人Chapter 125
When the signal for the beast tide was carried to the entire continent by flying beasts, and the tide rolled in from the depths of the ocean to the coastal waters, various bases along the eastern north-south coastlines came under attack from land beasts, flying beasts, and a large number of near-shore sea beasts.
Given the limited military strength, the coastal base adopted a defensive strategy, using attacks only as a secondary measure.
Wen City Base activated its outermost Class A energy shield, which had been hidden away until now. The shield was massive, stretching halfway into the sea and halfway inland, ready to face the incoming onslaught.
The initial form of the energy shield was mesh-like. Senior General Lin Jingan and Dong Mingliang each led a squadron of fighter jets out of the shield.
On the landward side of the shield, under the cover of the Class S Phoenix spiritual entity’s flames, hundreds of fighter jets continuously launched Class A energy shells to strafe the land beasts below, while Lin Jingan focused on eliminating any Class S mutated beasts among them.
On the seaside of the shield, Dong Mingliang, dressed in battle armor, stood on a fighter jet and used his Class S Metal Element ability to kill large numbers of flying beasts, covering the fighter jets behind him as they strafed the sea beasts in the waters below.
No Class S beast could break through the defense line of the two Class S generals. The high- and low-level mutated beasts that managed to slip past the jets were mowed down by the heavy machine guns of the guard troops stationed outside the energy shield. Class A energy shells pierced through the shield’s mesh with deadly precision, cutting down countless mutated beasts.
The number of land and flying beasts that bypassed the Southeast Base to come here wasn’t large. Once the flying beasts in the air were eliminated, more fighter jets flew out of Wen City Base to strike the beast tide. Lin Jingan and Dong Mingliang took the opportunity to return to the base to rest, only heading out again when Class S mutated beasts or large numbers of flying beasts appeared.
Six beast tides had occurred in the new era, each lasting a full three days. Defending any base was a protracted battle, and the coordination between energy weapons and psychics was crucial.
The C-class guard troops, manning the fighter jets and heavy machine guns, provided a relentless barrage of firepower. Under the assumption that their firepower was enough to defend the energy shield, the B-class and Class A psychics focused on eliminating the beasts that broke through the firing line, doing their utmost to protect the C-class guard troops. The fireline set up by the C-class guard troops gave the higher-class psychics time to recover their abilities.
"East sea area, two Class S beasts have crossed the 50-kilometer alert line!"
"South sea area, five Class S beasts!"
The two generals, stationed in different parts of the base, received the alert. With over a decade of cooperation, they no longer needed to waste time assigning tasks. Lin Jingan flew directly to the southern part of the base, while Dong Mingliang headed east.
Affected by the beast tide, the aquatic mutated beasts had grown limbs matching their size before approaching the land.
Lower-level sea beasts blindly rushed toward the base, while Class S sea beasts observed Wen City Base’s defenses from a distance and, together with their fellow Class S sea beasts, formulated a simple strategy.
In the southern part of the base, two Class S crabs landed first, followed by a Class S squid crawling behind, and finally, two Class S manta rays flew out of the water.
The two manta rays, after leaving the water, deliberately split and circled around the sides of the base to deal with the Phoenix spiritual entity in the air.
The Phoenix flew at top speed toward one of the manta rays. A column of flame from its mouth melted a hole in the flat body of the manta ray. As soon as the flames hit the target, the Phoenix flapped its wings and chased after the other manta ray, moving with blinding speed.
The manta ray’s “wings,” having just evolved, were no match for the Phoenix. Even though its flight speed was comparable to a Class A flying beast, the Phoenix loomed over it in an instant. A wind sphere rushed down from above, crashing like a giant wave and slamming the manta ray’s black body to the ground.
The wind sphere forced the manta ray to stay one meter outside the shield, and the flames burned a scorched hollow in the middle of its body.
Having successfully completed the task, the Phoenix flew back to its physical form.
Lin Jingan’s Class S Phoenix flame ability was equally powerful. However, every time he unleashed a flame attack, the Class S squid would spew a large cloud of black ink, significantly weakening the flames.
The two Class S crabs crawled with surprising speed using their eight legs. Lin Jingan conjured a whirlwind.
The two Class S crabs immediately buried their legs deep into the ground, most of their bodies hidden in the soil.
At this point, Lin Jingan infused the whirlwind with Phoenix flames.
As soon as the Class S crabs loosened their grip, they were swept up by the fiery whirlwind. If they didn’t let go, they would soon be roasted by the flames.
Seeing that the psychic was not using the whirlwind on it, the Class S squid moved its ten tentacles, attempting to bypass the attack from the side. Lin Jingan, noticing this, shot a flame at the squid from the air.
The squid continued to spew ink. The ink weakened most of the flames but failed to block the Class A energy shell that followed closely behind.
The A-grade energy bullets weren’t enough to kill the S-grade squid, but the explosion caught the unprepared creature off guard, flipping it onto its back. At that moment, the Phoenix spirit entity arrived and shot a flame directly at the exposed suckers in the center of the squid.
The S-grade squid was killed, and the two S-grade crabs, despite their strong defenses, were scorched until their dark-blue shells turned red under the continuous heat.
On the eastern battlefield, Dong Mingliang faced two S-grade sharks.
To conserve his awakened abilities, Dong Mingliang activated his battle armor to hover in the air, while his 30-meter-tall brown bear spirit entity leaped down at one of the S-grade sharks.
The S-grade shark, over a hundred meters long, did not dodge the aerial opponent. Instead, it opened its massive jaws and lunged at the brown bear. The bear, bending low mid-fall, delivered a powerful swipe with its sharp claws, raking the side of the shark’s head and sending it crashing to the side, with the bear still holding onto its head.
As the shark’s massive body hit the ground, the brown bear withdrew its paw and, using the momentum, leaped toward the other shark.
This S-grade shark had learned from its companion’s mistake and did not try to bite with its mouth. Instead, it twisted its body and swung its powerful tail at the brown bear. The bear swatted the shark’s tail with both paws, and as the shark turned halfway from the momentum of the tail swing, it suddenly saw the brown bear standing on all fours right where it had just landed. Between the bear’s two front paws was a bloody, severed tail, oddly familiar.
The shark instinctively tried to shake its tail, only to realize it was already gone.
Blood gushed out, drawing a frenzied swarm of mutated fish that fought each other for a taste. These mutated fish, having swum so far and engaged in countless acts of cannibalism, now had a super delicious S-grade sea beast in front of them—how could they resist? They needed to eat their fill before continuing their siege on the humans!
The massive brown bear leaped over the low-grade mutated fish that couldn’t bite through its fur and landed next to the S-grade shark. With a swift swipe, the bear tore open the shark’s body and retrieved the crystal core.
With fewer opponents and the bear’s powerful physical attacks, Dong Mingliang’s battle ended even faster than Lin Jingan’s.
Inside the base, Sun Fushan watched excitedly as a commander stood nearby, eyes fixed on the endless stream of sea beasts surging onto the shore.
S-grade awakened individuals were certainly formidable, but even the strongest could fall when outnumbered. The three-day beast tide had only just begun.
The nearest base to the Southeast Base, the Qiantang Base, faced a large wave of seabird flying beasts and a greater number of nearshore sea beasts.
This was the southern estuary of a large river leading to the sea, and the sea beasts could easily travel upstream to strike the human base. Due to this geographical position, every time a beast tide arrived, the Qiantang Base faced the greatest pressure.
The two generals stationed here recently were the principals of the Second School, Wei Jian and General Yuan Changhai.
Wei Jian had a snowflake spirit entity with S-grade Ice and Wind Element abilities, while Yuan Changhai had a great white shark spirit entity with S-grade Metal and Water Element abilities.
The seabird flying beasts arrived first.
Wei Jian flew out of the protective shield and released his snowflake spirit entity.
The snowflake was tiny, like any ordinary snowflake in nature, so small that the 200,000 guards looking up from inside the base couldn’t see it. Yet, as the snowflake appeared, a vast expanse of heavy snow suddenly enveloped the nearby sea area.
Wei Jian waved his hand forward, and the wind blew countless snowflakes toward the flying beasts.
Any seabirds below S-grade that were touched by the snowflakes were instantly frozen into ice and fell to the ground, shattering on the frozen sea.
A dozen or so S-grade seabirds, shivering but still resolutely flying toward the Qiantang Base, remained.
Wei Jian flicked his snowflake spirit entity away, and the tiny snowflake suddenly transformed into a rapidly spinning blizzard. The blizzard swept through the area, and the remaining S-grade seabirds were all turned into ice sculptures.
With that, Wei Jian’s battle temporarily came to an end.
As he returned to the base, he crossed paths with Yuan Changhai, clad in S-grade battle armor. The latter muttered grumpily, “Not exactly romantic, too showy.”
Wei Jian: “……”
The first wave of sea beasts had arrived, led by seven S-level sea beasts, including one S-level shark, three S-level mutated killer whales, and three S-level mutated dolphins.
Yuan Changhai activated his battle armor and flew at low altitude, while his S-level great white shark spiritual form jumped into the sea, splashing a towering wave tens of meters high.
In its normal form, the great white shark wouldn’t stand a chance against the mutated killer whales.
The seven sea beasts rushed towards it aggressively.
The S-level great white shark spiritual form suddenly grew larger, its body expanding to an almost unimaginable size as it swam forward rapidly. It opened its massive jaws with a decisive roar and swallowed the seven sea beasts whole.
The seven sea beasts attempted to turn back, but it was already too late, as they were swept into the great white shark's mouth by the surging seawater.
While a normal great white shark relies on its two rows of sharp teeth, the S-level great white shark spiritual form’s mouth was equipped with multiple layers of razor-sharp, S-level metal teeth through its abilities.
The metal teeth, like guillotines, clamped down and crunched the seven S-level sea beasts into pieces, leaving only seven crystal cores that almost broke its teeth.
With the mission complete, the super-sized great white shark spiritual form swung its tail and turned towards the base, opening its giant mouth.
Gore and red-tinged seawater gushed out between its real teeth, staining the surrounding sea area.
The 200,000 guard troops inside the base were speechless.
With General Yuan in command, the most ferocious S-level spiritual form of the Southeast Base would never belong to anyone else!
