Chapter 6
byChapter 6
The dragonet floated in mid-air, watching Luo Qingci.
She remained vigilant. The memories from her dreams made her wary of people.
The person in front of her, dressed in white, was covered in dust, and her face was obscured by a mask.
Even sitting casually, her figure was striking—cold and clear as the moon, yet with a gentle, moonlight-like warmth, a captivating contradiction.
Luo Qingci watched as the dragonet studied her, her gaze wandering around her chest.
"You were stepping all over me earlier, why aren't you coming over now?" In her daze, she had mistaken it for a kitten kneading milk.
Hearing her words, the dragonet slowly moved over. She still found Luo Qingci rather endearing.
Luo Qingci sat cross-legged and patted her lap, "Here."
The dragonet glanced at it, then looked up at her chest, which seemed softer.
Though silent, Luo Qingci understood her meaning.
She raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'This little one has quite the imagination.'
Ignoring the dragonet's hint, she tapped her lap again.
Settling for second best, the little dragon finally decided to land on Luo Qingci's lap, her four small paws instinctively kneading before she obediently lay down, looking up.
Luo Qingci remained composed, but her heart was softening.
She scratched the dragonet under the chin, "You're a dragon, why are you acting like a kitten?"
Displeased, the dragonet lifted a paw to push Luo Qingci's hand away and let out a low growl, a hint of threat in her voice.
"Hmm? Are you angry? I can't touch you?"
The dragonet shook the mane on her little head majestically, looking serious and stern, as if dissatisfied with Luo Qingci's pet-like treatment.
Luo Qingci grasped her meaning and smiled softly.
"Yes, very majestic—nothing a kitten could compare to. Let's continue with what we were discussing earlier."
Hearing Luo Qingci's words, the dragonet slumped down, lowering her head.
Luo Qingci sighed inwardly but kept a serious tone.
"I know it's hard for you to accept, but everything has already happened, and you must face it. Humans and dragons are now at odds. The immortal sects have ordered that any dragon found must be killed on sight. So you can't wander around, and you mustn't be discovered, or it will be very dangerous. Understand?"
Luo Qingci's voice was naturally cool, and with her cultivated demeanor, her words flowed like icy water, carrying a chill.
But now, with her inner self infused by the usually talkative Luo Qingci, her coolness was tinged with warmth, occasionally strange but somehow endearing.
The dragonet listened intently, staring at Luo Qingci, her tail unconsciously resting on her wrist.
When Luo Qingci glanced at her hand, the dragonet pointed at her with the tip of her tail.
The touch around her wrist was light, conveying intimacy, curiosity, and a comforting warmth.
Luo Qingci stayed still and asked, "Are you asking why I'm not harming you?" The dragonet nodded.
Luo Qingci held the dragonet, allowing her to look directly into her eyes, and said seriously, "I am different from them. The existence of every life has meaning, and not arbitrarily taking the lives of others is the most basic bottom line as a human. Even for animals without thoughts, killing should be for survival. Are humans really worse than beasts?
"You have not threatened my life, and I don’t need to kill you to survive, so I will not harm you. At the same time, I do not agree with their actions and do not wish for a dragonet like you, who hasn’t even fully hatched yet, to be harmed by others. Do you understand?"
These were Luo Qingci’s sincere words. She lived in a world where morality and law far surpassed the world described in the book. Although saving the female lead was for a mission, and although she felt this was a virtual world, she couldn’t bring herself to hand her over to be tortured and killed.
The dragonet seemed to partially understand, yet she knew that the person before her would not harm her. Was it she who had taken her away?
Seeing her innocent expression, Luo Qingci spoke sternly again, "But it's only me. In front of others, no matter when or who they are, you must keep your identity hidden and not reveal yourself. Do you understand?"
Later in the story, the female lead revealed her dragon form to save people, but those people not only failed to show gratitude but stubbornly clung to their views and ruthlessly attacked her. Even the male lead looked disappointed, acting as though he had been deceived and betrayed.
Thinking of this, Luo Qingci frowned, giving her a warning in advance.
The dragonet nodded obediently, though she still didn’t fully grasp why humans were so complicated, she remembered.
However, her memory was still stuck on the moment she was awakened by her father’s roar, when she was still in the Dragon Breeding Abyss. How did she leave there?
Before she could think deeply, grief struck again.
Had her Dragon King father and the rest of the Dragon Clan been killed?
Before she hatched, her father often told her interesting stories about humans, speaking so vividly, without a hint of hatred or resentment.
She didn’t understand why humans wanted to kill her father, to kill their Dragon Clan.
She held back for a long time, but the tears wouldn’t stop, and she curled up in Luo Qingci’s palm, crying.
Luo Qingci understood why she was crying. She gently stroked the dragonet’s head, "Cry if you’re sad, but after you’re done, grow up strong. Only by living can you bring peace to those who care about you."
The dragonet sobbed intermittently, turning her head to look at Luo Qingci, somewhat puzzled. Did she know her identity? Did she have another motive for helping her?
Luo Qingci did not have the ability to read minds and could not guess all her thoughts. Seeing her cry, she just pinched her sleeve to wipe the dragonet’s tears.
Looking at the frail dragonet before her, Luo Qingci teased, "Are you hungry? What do dragons eat after they are born? Do they drink milk?"
The dragonet: ...
She shook her head speechlessly. Dragons do not need to drink milk, but she was indeed hungry.
"Oh, I almost forgot, dragons are oviparous, not mammals. So what can you eat? Vegetarian probably won't do, so meat? Raw or cooked? But you're so small, eating raw meat might not be good, might cause diarrhea. But there's nothing to eat here, we’ll have to go out and find something."
She rambled on, slipping back into her earlier chatterbox mode.
The dragonet looked completely baffled. What did oviparous and mammals mean? Why was she asking so many questions? For a moment, she didn’t know where to start answering.
She helplessly rested her head on her own body, and then a faint growl came from her stomach.
"Chuckling, really hungry, huh?" Luo Qingci chuckled lightly, bringing her strange masked face close to the dragonet’s eyes.
The dragonet was extremely embarrassed, lifting her paw to cover that strange face, not letting her stare at her.
Luo Qingci didn’t mind, pulling down the little paw of the dragonet, stood up and thought for a moment.
Then, she took out the elixir Jiang Yuebai had given her.
Inside was a bottle of Dew Condensation Pills, made from high-quality spiritual fruits and herbs, a fifth-tier spiritual pill. Ordinary cultivators could use it to strengthen their foundation. If there was any loss, it could quickly replenish spiritual energy.
The dragonet had just expended a lot of spiritual energy for her. Although the Dragon Clan is born with a foundation, having just hatched, she couldn’t withstand much strain.
"Here, eat this," Luo Qingci handed over a pellet of Condensed Dew Pill.
The dragonet leaned forward, giving it a gentle sniff. The sweet fragrance was quite enticing.
"Don't sweat it, it's not poison."
As she said this, Luo Qingci popped another pill into her own mouth.
She had just been invaded by the cold air from the deep pool, although it was suppressed, the discomfort remained. Her spiritual energy was all over the place—a total mess.
The dragonet blinked, picked up the Condensed Dew Pill with its mouth and swallowed it.
The dragonet smacked its lips after the first taste—delicious! Though not as potent as her father's miraculous medicine, it was sweet and tasty.
"This pill should tide you over. It's getting dark, and I'm still hurt, so we can't just head out. Let's crash here tonight. Get some rest, and tomorrow we'll scrounge up some food."
The dragonet nodded.
Luo Qingci closed her eyes again, beginning another session of metaphysical cultivation.
This injury was bad—she felt a stubborn chill in her dantian that needed spiritual energy to keep it in check, or she'd turn into a popsicle again.
Though newly hatched, the dragonet had been aware for years, sensing the outside world even in its egg. Though young, it wasn't clueless.
It could tell Luo Qingci was hurting, clearly injured.
It ached to comfort her but was frustrated—it couldn't speak.
Yes, it understood human speech but couldn't talk.
Dragons are the most spiritual of the demon clans, born wise and able to shapeshift at will.
But it was born weak, taking three hundred years to hatch—unlike other dragons.
For instance, it couldn't shapeshift yet, understood speech, but couldn't talk.
This feeling was awful—even in the egg, it had overheard people urging its father to abandon it.
But its father held on, nurturing it for three long centuries.
His life's dream was to see it hatch. Now it had, but he was gone.
He waited three hundred years—only to miss it.
Its eyes welled up again—even after hatching, it felt like the most worthless dragon.
Too young for hatred, it was drowning in grief.
It spent most of the night stewing in its own misery.
The hatchling wore its heart on its sleeve. When Luo Qingci finished absorbing the pill's energy and opened her eyes, she instantly noticed its gloom.
That pitiful look, like a rain-soaked kitten, tugged at her heart.
Luo Qingci exhaled slowly, then poked the dragonet. "You just hatched—why so glum? What's on your mind?"
The dragonet listlessly glanced at her, then lowered its head. What was the use of asking? It couldn't speak.
Luo Qingci chuckled. "You're just a baby dragon—don't overthink it. Can't talk? Fine, I'll guess. If you were homesick, you'd be bawling. No tears? Then it's not that..."
Before Luo Qingci could finish speaking, the dragonet grabbed her sleeve and tugged at it fiercely, its eyes filled with dissatisfaction.
Luo Qingci couldn't help but find it amusing—indeed, the dragonet was no different from a child.
"You don't like being called a crybaby, do you?"
The dragonet nodded indignantly.
Luo Qingci readily admitted her mistake, with genuine sincerity. "Alright, I'm sorry, I won't call you that anymore. Are you feeling so down because you're worried about your situation?"
The dragonet looked at Luo Qingci, sensing that she genuinely wanted to know, not just casually brushing her off.
So she lowered her head and dejectedly opened her mouth, letting out a few soft dragonet calls. Although she varied the tones, it was still just the soft call of a dragonet.
Then, she looked at her four claws, pointed at the red scales on her body, and opened her mouth to spit out a dragon flame. Unfortunately, it was just a small puff of fire, with no power at all.
Seeing this, Luo Qingci suddenly understood what was going on in the dragonet's little head. Truly the main character, already thinking more deeply than most from birth.
"Are you upset because you think you're too weak?"
