Chapter 6
byChapter 6
Feng Yiyan felt a twitch in his right eyelid, and he put down his phone to look out the right car window.
In the passenger seat, Qiu Jiapo had his back turned to him, his face almost pressed against the window, blocking the entire view. His shoulders were shaking, and he kept letting out a series of disgusting chuckles, like a hissing pressure cooker.
Feng Yiyan frowned in disgust, "Get out of the way."
Qiu Jiapo shifted to the side, his eyes still fixed on the window, grinning, "Your spunky little maid is decked out in a yellow delivery vest. So she's been delivering takeout these past few days."
"She's got her face pressed to the ground, what's she doing? Did she find gold? Hey, why is she always such a riot?"
Now, their group jokingly referred to Lu Ke as 'that gutsy little maid.' The incident from three days ago had become a topic of endless amusement during their gatherings, of course, mostly when Feng Yiyan wasn't around.
It was just too hilarious—she had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, intercepted Feng Yiyan's hard-fought home run, then abruptly tackled him, shouting 'Master,' and sent him straight to the hospital. The whole scene was amazing.
And the culprit had even managed to escape.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, they saw her climb up to the sixth floor like a spy through a small window and then flee through the emergency exit, successfully getting away.
When Feng Yiyan heard the news while lying in his hospital bed, his expression was priceless. He immediately had someone call the police, wanting her to be jailed for intentional assault.
But then, something even funnier happened.
The baseball team's head coach, Robinson, really liked Lu Ke, who had contributed to that amazing home run catch. He stopped Feng Yiyan from calling the police. Standing by the hospital bed, he said:
"Yan, you wouldn't want to get back at that plucky little girl, would you? If so, that would be very ungentlemanly. I might have to reconsider the contract renewal. I'm sorry, but I can't work with a petty boss."
Feng Yiyan, lying on the hospital bed and now labeled as 'petty,' had a particularly interesting expression.
But Robinson was a head coach Feng Yiyan had worked hard to recruit. Coaches of his caliber were all coaching higher-level professional baseball teams abroad. If Robinson left, there really wouldn't be a better head coach available domestically.
Robinson, being older, had been wanting to retire. Feng Yiyan couldn't give him an excuse to leave.
In the end, Feng Yiyan decided to bite the bullet.
Lying in the hospital bed, he gritted his teeth and smiled, saying, "Of course, I won't retaliate," which had his friends in stitches.
Crown Prince Feng, who had always been coddled and had everything go his way, was also known for bearing a grudge. No one dared to provoke him. This was the first time they had seen him take a loss without being able to retaliate.
Feng Yiyan knew exactly what Qiu Jiapo was thinking. With a dark expression, he impatiently said, "Move over a bit more. Are you giving me a view of the back of your head?"
"Alright, alright."
Qiu Jiapo simply turned sideways, leaning his back against the passenger seat, but his eyes still glanced out the window.
At that moment, he saw Lu Ke actually prying up the manhole cover. He exclaimed, "She's prying up the manhole cover! I was wondering what she was doing squatting there. Turns out she's stealing manhole covers. How low she's sunk in just a few days. The gutsy little maid couldn't cling to her master, so now she's reduced to stealing manhole covers. What a looker, escaped from the loony bin, still kinda cute..."
After saying this, he let out another series of chuckles, which annoyed Feng Yiyan even more.
The sports car sat too low to the ground, and from this angle, they could only see the tops of the onlookers.
Feng Yiyan's lips pursed in impatience.
After being knocked into the hospital last time, the examination showed that his tailbone was slightly dislocated. He had to put aside his work and rest in the hospital for two days. He spent the whole morning catching up on his backlog of work.
In the afternoon, he received a call from Wu Ma, the nanny at his aunt's house, informing him that the cat was missing. He hightailed it back from fifty kilometers away.
The traffic jam and his aunt's situation had already frazzled him. Now, not being able to see that weirdo, Feng Yiyan was so annoyed that he hit the convertible roof button without a second thought.
In an instant, the supercar's roof folded back and opened up.
"Are you out of your mind!"
Qiu Jiapo was stunned and tried to press the button again, but once pressed, the car had to fully convert to open-top mode before the button could be reset.
"What if we get discovered?"
He frantically placed a hat on the guy beside him, then took off his own sunglasses and placed them on his nose bridge. He wanted to find a mask but couldn't find one.
This is a disaster; even with a mask, this guy stands out too much. If recognized, it's straight to the news.
The emperor isn't worried, but his servant is freaking out.
"Where's your mask?"
He asked him.
Feng Yiyan casually pulled out a black mask from his left side and put it on. By the time he adjusted it, the car's roof had fully retracted, letting sunlight and wind pour in unobstructed.
Along with it came the stares of everyone around.
A supercar—how often do you see one of those?
A traffic jam—how dull.
Who wouldn't look, except for those glued to their phones?
From the next lane, the cars behind, the bike lane, the sidewalk—everyone in cars, on bikes, or walking—turned their heads.
To make matters worse, a bus was stopped to the right rear, packed with people like sardines, all staring in unison.
Qiu Jiapo was overwhelmed by the stares and wished he could wear a mask too. He glanced at Feng Yiyan and saw the guy was completely unfazed.
Then again, he's probably used to the attention.
At that moment, Feng Yiyan ignored all the stares around him. His eyes, shielded by two layers of sunglasses, pierced through the tree-lined avenue, locking onto Lu Ke, who had lifted the manhole cover.
He thought coldly, 'This is the one who intercepted my home run.'
That intercepted home run was something he'd grit his teeth and punch the air over in the middle of the night. The suffering in the hospital was nothing compared to that.
Good, now he's got her in his sights again.
After the initial panic of being in the spotlight, Qiu Jiapo, seeing Feng Yiyan's indifference, decided to let it go. If it makes the news, so be it; they can always pay to bury the story.
"She's something else, isn't she?" He winked at Feng Yiyan.
Feng Yiyan's thin lips under the mask curled into a mocking arc. "Interested? She's a lunatic—watch out, or she'll latch onto you."
This guy's still hung up on it," he teased deliberately.
He said, "She's so beautiful, what's wrong with latching on? If she's crazy, I'll be her guardian—no big deal. By the way, tell me, how did it feel when she pounced on you?"
Feng Yiyan looked at him with disgust. "Did any of your ex-girlfriends ever tell you you're greasy?"
Qiu Jiapo shrugged: "They only ever said I'm amazing."
He said 'amazing' in a high-pitched voice.
With a grin, Qiu Jiapo turned to glance at Lu Ke outside the window and was startled, almost jumping out of his seat.
"Oh my god, she jumped into the sewer!"
Bystanders gasped, "Oh no, she jumped in! Be careful!"
Feng Yiyan saw Lu Ke leap down too, his expression slightly changing, but soon he noticed a snow-white hand gripping the edge of the manhole cover.
Lu Ke, now dirty, clutched a grimy white kitten and hauled herself out with impressive strength. Her pretty face broke into a goofy grin, out of place but endearing, making people can't help but smile.
Qiu Jiapo let out a relieved sigh, leaning back into the plush leather seat. His gaze remained fixed on Lu Ke's face as a smile crept onto his lips. "So she was rescuing a cat."
Feng Yiyan also saw the grimy British Shorthair in Lu Ke's arms.
It was a pudgy British Shorthair with a silver tabby coat, quite similar to his aunt's cat.
Hmm?
Looking closer, the cat wore a red string with a golden bead, just like his aunt's cat.
This couldn't just be a coincidence.
Holy crap, this is Dan Dan, the missing cat!
Feng Yiyan's expression suddenly changed. He hit the button to close the supercar's convertible top, turning it back into a fully enclosed mode, and snapped at Qiu Jiapo, "Get out," then immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.
Onlookers were still reeling from Lu Ke's sewer dive when they saw a tall, handsome man with sunglasses, a mask, and a hat storming over with such intensity that people couldn't help but step back.
Feng Yiyan snatched the cat from Lu Ke, grabbed her wrist with his other hand, pulling her towards the car. Once they reached the car, he shoved her into the passenger seat, sat back in the driver's seat, and closed the door.
The supercar only had two seats.
Qiu Jiapo, now seatless after being ordered out, could only stand by the car, looking completely duped: ...Damn, no wonder he kicked me out.
Flustered, Qiu Jiapo glanced around and plastered on a confident smile. "No worries, they know each other."
"Hi, could you delete that video? Thanks."
"Hey, could you delete your footage too? Thanks a ton."
"That's not Feng Yiyan. He's just a lookalike model."
Inside the car.
Lu Ke stared at Feng Yiyan, wide-eyed and stunned. Her smile faltered as she met Feng Yiyan's icy glare. "Last time, because of Coach Robinson's plea, I let you go."
He took off his sunglasses, glanced at the listless cat in his arms, his expression turning extremely cold. "I didn't expect you to set your sights on my aunt next."
"Huh?"
Lu Ke didn't understand.
Red Soul reacted first: "Oh no, this jerk thinks the cat rescue was a setup!" she shouted. "The old lady you just saw is his aunt!"
"This man hates it when people deliberately approach him, damn it, but this time it's really a coincidence! Who does he think he is, that everyone is trying their hardest to get close to him..."
Her voice trailed off.
Well, indeed, many people do try their hardest to get close to him.
Once Feng Yiyan was photographed drinking coffee at a café, and ever since, numerous fans have flocked there to camp out. The café's business boomed, and reservations were impossible to get, especially for the seat where Feng Yiyan was photographed. People would argue daily over that seat.
Even crazier, a few nights later, the whole table and chair were stolen, leaving only a thick wad of cash behind.
Feng Yiyan had not previously invested in a sports stadium; he used to play at another baseball field.
However, news of his presence there was leaked by an internal staff member, who even secretly took photos of him playing and boasted about it in a group chat. Overnight, the baseball field became a sensation, packed with fans like a concert, making it impossible to play. Some fans even applied for jobs as staff just to sneak in.
As a result, Feng Yiyan abandoned that location and invested in building his own comprehensive sports stadium, implementing strict management to prevent overzealous fans from infiltrating.
On another occasion, the nanny who took care of Feng Yiyan as a child had her residential address leaked by someone. From then on, fans took turns bombarding her at her doorstep, each trying to pitch themselves and asking her to help connect them with Feng Yiyan.
The nanny, already retired and at an age where she should be enjoying her golden years with her grandchildren, was instead hounded by fans, unable to sleep well at night.
Daytime visits were bad enough, but people would even ring her doorbell in the middle of the night. The situation only ended when Feng Yiyan arranged for her to move to a new home.
...Ahem, she had even meticulously planned two "chance encounters" during her mission, only to be seen through by Feng Yiyan at a glance...
This guy is sharp-minded. Even though he saw through her, he didn't call her out outright. Instead, he deliberately set up many traps for her to fall into, keeping a straight face while secretly despising her.
It's also on them for not being able to check the favorability meter in real-time; they could only receive notifications after the mission ended. Otherwise, they would have known earlier.
Red Soul deflated and went silent.
Pink Soul, on the other hand, remained silent throughout, only gazing at Feng Yiyan's face through Lu Ke, filled with a mix of resentment and affection, her heart aching.
She had also designed a romantic scenario, which was also seen through.
In this regard, Feng Yiyan is merciless. He is like a combination of Tang Sanzang and Sun Wukong, with sharp eyes that see through all schemers, protecting himself tightly.
Other celebrities might have scandals about sleeping with fans, half-heartedly indulging attractive fans.
But Feng Yiyan is truly indifferent. Even if a fan is drop-dead gorgeous, he has no interest. If it weren't for the fact that he has a "white moonlight" in his heart, one might suspect his sexual orientation.
"Do you think approaching me like this will work?"
Feng Yiyan looked at Lu Ke, a touch of mockery in his eyes.
"Originally, I had decided to let you off and not pursue your responsibility for trespassing and injuring me in a private place," he said coldly, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "But now, I've decided to sue you again."
If he hadn't run into her, this woman might have used the cat to cozy up to his aunt without him noticing.
Family is his bottom line, and she had crossed it.
He looked at Lu Ke.
Waiting to see her show regret and panic.
But would Lu Ke comply?
Lu Ke blinked her thick, curly lashes, her sapphire-blue eyes clear and striking, but her pupils unfocused...
She was daydreaming.
As a child, he would always scowl in anger, grabbing the back of her neck to scold her, telling her not to bite things, not to pee everywhere, and not to lick people.
She smiled at him nostalgically, "You get angry so easily..."
Her pink lips curved into a pure, bright smile, her eyes sparkling with intense love and nostalgia, as if he were a long-lost love. Feng Yiyan was stunned.
After snapping out of it, his temple twitched.
This baffling woman kept playing dumb. Fine.
He stared ahead expressionlessly, the corner of his mouth twisting into a sly, icy smirk. "Fine, don't admit it, suit yourself. Give the cat back first, and then we'll deal with you later."
At that moment, the road cleared, and Feng Yiyan irritably slammed on the accelerator, the sports car's engine roaring.
Seeing that Feng Yiyan had actually left him behind, Qiu Jiapo, standing by the roadside, cursed in disbelief, "Damn it!"
