    Chapter 90

After Hai Yan finished speaking, he left.

Even when Ji Ye asked if he needed help, Hai Yan didn’t respond.

He probably planned to handle it alone as a deity.

Ji Ye examined the godhood Hai Yan had gifted and said to Qi Mo, "This is the godhood of life, a low-rank godhood."

Huo Liangzhou asked, "Can this low-rank godhood be upgraded? What’s the difference between using a low-rank and a high-rank godhood? Are there any risks when using it?"

Ji Ye was quite patient, likely due to his affection for those involved.

"High-rank godhoods carry certain risks, but the greater the risk, the greater the reward. The advantage of low-rank godhoods is their lower risk. I’ve checked on Qiu Qiu’s father—absorbing the godhood of life poses almost no risk, though it’s not very strong in combat. But for Qiu Qiu and Snowball, it’s beneficial," Ji Ye explained.

Huo Liangzhou let out a sigh of relief when he heard there were no risks.

"Can the low-rank godhood be upgraded after use?" Huo Liangzhou asked again, as this was crucial.

Ji Ye nodded. "Yes. Qiu Qiu obtained two dusk godhoods. Once he absorbs them, he can advance to mid-rank godhood."

Huo Jinghan nodded. "It’s fine, Dad. We’ll protect Father. You don’t have to limit yourself to just one godhood—the godhood of life can merge with others, evolving into something like Mother Earth, which has decent offensive power. Besides, the godhood of life isn’t entirely non-combative. At mid-rank, it can drain or bestow life force."

Huo Liangzhou said, "Momo, you take this godhood."

Qi Mo shook his head. "I’m usually at home, so I’m safe. You’re always out and about—you should take it."

Huo Liangzhou chuckled. "This is a support godhood. Besides, if you take it, all three of us benefit. Be a good girl and listen to your husband. Your husband wants to comprehend and obtain a godhood with strong combat power himself."

Qi Mo hesitated, glancing at the pretty boy pouring tea before looking at the little kitten Snowball lapping up tea from the coffee table.

"Fine, I’ll take it. But since we’ve accepted this gift, what about Hai Yan? ‘Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.’" Qi Mo voiced his concern. If they refused, and Hai Yan demanded it back, how could they compensate? Their cub wasn’t for sale.

Bopping his little brother’s round head and stroking from head to tail, Huo Jinghan asked, "Snowball, do you like Hai Yan?"

"He’s the Sea God—bet he’s got tons of fish treats." Turning to Ji Ye, Huo Jinghan asked, "Master, do you know Hai Yan? What’s his personality like? Is he easy to get along with?"

Ji Ye tapped the coffee table before answering. "We used to be close—until I grilled the octopus guarding his place."

"Hai Yan is a bit of a homebody. He dislikes crowds and enjoys raising sea creatures that haven’t gained sentience. He’s very loyal. He probably took a liking to Snowball ‘cause he was jealous I had a cat. After learning about cats, he likely just fell for Snowball," Ji Ye explained.

Though Qiu Qiu, being his own cat, was naturally the cutest—no cat could compare.

But that didn’t mean Snowball wasn’t just as cute.

If Qiu Qiu could captivate him, Snowball could captivate Hai Yan. But was it really a good idea for a fish to like a cat?

Especially when said fish planned to obtain the godhood of war for said cat. Once the cat grew up, could the fish still win against it? Would it end up with the cat owning the fish or the fish owning the cat?

But since it was a match made in… weirdness, as long as Snowball stayed safe, Ji Ye couldn’t be bothered to interfere. Having cats was the best.

Qi Mo said to the little kitten Snowball, "Snowball, no pressure. Even if I use the godhood of life, if you don’t like Hai Yan, we can always get him another godhood to pay him back."

"But if you do like him, there’s no harm in making friends—as long as he genuinely likes you and you like him too," Qi Mo added.

Their cub wasn’t up for grabs, but making friends with a god couldn’t hurt—it wasn’t a bad thing.

Snowball meowed softly. Honestly, she didn’t mind Hai Yan—he did smell kinda good.

But Snowball would be unhappy if the other party took it away.

You have to respect the kitty if you want to be her litterbox cleaner.

What would a fish know about a little kitty's thoughts?

"*Meow meow*," Snowball cried, "Chubby baby is hungry."

For a foodie, nothing matters more than food.

Qi Mo couldn't help but laugh. The little one must really like him—after all, that fish, ahem, the Sea God is seriously handsome. As in-law material, he’d definitely qualify.

Ji Ye sensed Qiu Qiu’s father’s thoughts. *You've got some nerve*, *thinking about a daughter-in-law*.

Glancing at the young man beside him, *a son-in-law* seemed more fitting.

But since Qiu Qiu wasn’t even born yet, *what kind of crazy idea is this?* Just wait.

Raising a kitty is fun, though.

Qi Mo went to cook, stashing the seafood from the living room into his storage space before retrieving it in the kitchen.

He cracked the crab shells for steaming, extracted conch and shellfish meat, descaled and cleaned them, then steamed them...

    Squid was fire-roasted, lobster charcoal-grilled, oysters flame-seared...

Some with chili, some with five-spice.

Steamed, topped with minced garlic, drizzled with sauce, sprinkled with scallions, and finished with hot oil.

The sizzling sound filled the air with rich aroma.

Kitty Snowball meowed insistently. Unlike her second brother, she couldn’t turn human.

Qi Mo picked up chubby baby—the ten-month-old could handle a taste of seafood.

Ji Ye, being a god, was easygoing. He chatted with Huo Liangzhou, with Qi Mo, and even with chubby baby in toddler gibberish.

Qi Mo figured Ji Ye must’ve been a real charmer before godhood.

Crab, conch, shellfish, lobster, and squid were all served.

Huo Liangzhou cracked crab shells and peeled lobster meat for the young master.

Ji Ye prepped food for his own kitty.

Snowball jumped over to her daddy to mooch some snacks.

Chubby baby gnawed on crab meat, juices running down his chin.

Qi Mo took a bite. "This is amazing—must be mutated. Wait, did we catch this on Blue Star?"

Huo Jinghan nodded. "Right out of our ocean."

"These mutations are progressing awfully fast," Huo Liangzhou remarked. The portions seemed small, but they were just portioned that way.

That squid was a good ten meters long.

The crab was no shrimp either—a solid two meters. Though its shell was tougher and bigger, the meat was tastier and had better bite.

Here’s the refined translation incorporating the expert suggestions:

"The mutations in the deep sea evolve faster than those on land. Fortunately, they aren’t coming ashore that fast," Ji Ye explained.

    Huo Liangzhou...

    Qi Mo widened his eyes.

"Are you saying sea creatures will come ashore and attack humans?" Huo Liangzhou asked.

Ji Ye ate a piece of lobster and shelled some crab meat for his kitty. "Not necessarily. With that fish around, nothing in the sea can surpass him."

    Snowball.

Crab's delicious, lobster's delicious, squid's delicious, and shellfish hits the spot too.

    That fish smells downright tasty.

Maybe I should raise a fish too?

If that fish brings me the Four War Gods, this kitty might just say yes and let him keep me.

No one knew this silvery furball was already wavering.

A foodie will always cave for good eats.

After taking Qiu Qiu home for a meal, Ji Ye took his kitty back to go fishing. After attaining godhood, if you don’t start holy wars, life gets boring—gotta find ways to kill time every day.

Comprehending cosmic rules isn’t something achieved overnight; it requires long periods of enlightenment.

And enlightenment is damn near impossible.

"No clue where that fish ran off to. Jinghan, did your dad finish absorbing the Life godhood yet?" Ji Ye asked.

It had already been over half a year since that fish disappeared.

Qi Mo was still waiting for the baby—already over two weeks past due.

Last life, with poor nutrition and harsh conditions, the baby came nearly a month early. But this time, we're looking at nearly two months' difference. Was the kid refusing to come out?

Huo Liangzhou was starting to sweat it.

Ji Ye had taken their second son fishing and hadn’t returned for over a month.

That fish who promised to raise the little one was MIA too.

Huo Liangzhou looked at the kitty parked on the kid’s head. "Snowball, go find your second brother and get the scoop. Your dad’s already two weeks overdue—does he need a C-section? The kid’s gotta come out sometime."

On an ice floe, under a sun umbrella with a mat and low table, Huo Jinghan was brewing tea.

After taking a sip, he said, "Coming along nicely, but full merge will take at least two or three years."

Then he closed his eyes—he too was fusing with the Twilight God’s godhood, and today was another leap ahead.

Once he became a mid-level god, he could better watch his family’s backs.

Even though Daxia had taken heavy losses, plenty of people remained.

A low-tier god couldn’t hold it all down. Huo Jinghan looked at the man before him. "Master, leave Daxia for my family. You can recruit worshippers elsewhere—just save some room for that fish."

With a loud boom, the ocean boiled.

Waves crashed hundreds of meters high, surging relentlessly toward the shore. Fortunately, with sea monsters prowling the waters, few people remained near the coast. By the time the waves reached land, they'd dwindled to mere meters, inflicting little damage.

Whether in distant waters or coastal operations, everything was pretty much lost since the sea beasts appeared.

    Huo Jinghan stood up.

Ji Ye looked toward the horizon.

The merman held a blindingly bright godhood in his hand, covered in blood and badly wounded...

"Are you okay?" Ji Ye rose to his feet.

Hai Yan glanced at Ji Ye, the corners of his lips lifting slightly. He held out the godhood to Huo Jinghan, his gaze dazed. "For my kitty."

Before he finished speaking, the injured merman passed out.

Ji Ye crouched down and poked the unconscious figure, then turned to his kitty. "How about we cut him open? Then we'd have two godhoods—one mid-tier War God's, probably high-tier but sealed. It'd suit that little kitty. The Sea God's godhood could help you train."

Huo Jinghan prodded the merman and said, "Master, quit messing around. I know you two are friends."

"Tch, we're not friends. Who curses their own friends?" Ji Ye grumbled, knowing full well his love for fishing—yet this fish had cursed him to never fish again. A mortal enemy.

Ignoring the merman, Ji Ye went back to fishing.

Huo Jinghan hauled both the merman and the godhood back home.

Faced with his father and dad's pleading looks, Huo Jinghan's mouth twitched—he'd forgotten that absorbing the Life God's godhood had side effects.

"Well, after absorbing the godhood, the kid's gonna be late," Huo Jinghan explained.

Qi Mo's eyes widened in disbelief. "Huo Jinghan, why didn't you tell me earlier? I can't just stay like this forever!"

Under his father's furious glare, Huo Jinghan stammered, "It's just two or three years, Dad. You'll live. After becoming a god, kids don't come easy. You might not have any more after this."

"This is the War God's godhood the merman brought back. Snowball, Snowball, take it quickly. And Dad, this merman's injured—have little brother take care of him. Just leave him in the bathtub, change the water daily, and don't bother with anything else. He'll recover on his own." Huo Jinghan dumped the merman into the living room and fled.

He was scared shitless of his dad's wrath.

After all, though his dad made most decisions, once his father spoke, his dad never refused.

The actual boss of the house was still his father.

In the bathtub, Snowball stared at the unconscious merman, sniffing all over. He still smelled delicious. The baby liked it. Maybe just a tiny bite? No one would notice.

The kitty pounced, biting the merman's mouth—gnawing his tail before had been wrong; it was too tough. But the blood was sweet and tasty.

Glancing left and right, the kitty felt guilty.

Looking up, it let out a startled "meow" and tried to bolt.

Hai Yan opened his eyes, amusement filling his gaze as he watched the puffed-up furball. Softly, he murmured, "You drank my blood and accepted my godhood. From today onward, you're my kitty..."

I just finished this and I feel the ending or last chapters became all over the place or rushed…

This is the second story where it felt very fast paced with things happening in the span of a few months instead of years but it was still entertaining. Not a top rated story but a good light read with cute moments.
