    Chapter 9 Life

Jing Miao had been away from home for less than eight hours before he returned looking miserable.

Before coming home, he had gone to the hospital.

When he woke up again, he was already lying on the bed adorned with roses at home, with Xi Siyan sitting beside him, staring blankly at a spot in the room.

    "Brother..."

Xi Siyan leaned down and carefully lifted him up. "Is baby awake? Are you still not feeling well?"

Jing Miao shook his head, then nodded.

"Brother, I want money," he said, sniffling.

Xi Siyan picked up the glass of warm water prepared earlier on the bedside table and carefully fed him. "Tell brother what you want to buy, and I'll get it for you. With me here, you don't need money."

"I do," he said, lowering his head and rattling off numbers. "There were only 5,837 gold in brother's wallet. Renting a scooter cost 600 gold, the room cost 4,999 gold, and I didn't even have money for food."

As the Omega drank water, he wiped away his tears. "If brother doesn't want me anymore, give me lots and lots of money, or I'll starve to death."

Xi Siyan sighed, his heart aching.

He hadn't realized before that the boy was so serious, remembering every word he said, holding a grudge and being stubborn.

"I'd never abandon you," Xi Siyan patted his back. "If you're not happy at home, I'll take you out to play often from now on. You don't have to blow on hot things yourself—I'll cool them and feed you bite by bite. You don't have to dress yourself—brother will dress you. You don't even need to carry a communicator, because I'll never be apart from you again."

That's it. From now on, there is no Xi Siyan, only Jing Miao's Xi Siyan.

"Has brother ever lied to me?"

Xi Siyan shook his head. "I won't lie to you."

Jing Miao suddenly reached out and pinched the Alpha's scent gland.

This most fragile and sensitive part of a human being was suddenly attacked, making anyone shudder. Xi Siyan trembled, then looked at him with amusement. "What's wrong?"

    "Can I bite it, brother?"

"Huh?" Xi Siyan was both exasperated and amused but still explained seriously. "No, an Omega cannot mark an Alpha."

Jing Miao lowered his head in disappointment and began crying again. "Oh. Then, brother, can I lock you up?"

Xi Siyan froze, unable to believe his ears. "What?"

    "You're a bad guy, brother."

"When I was little, you clearly told me you'd stay with Miao Miao forever, but when Miao Miao grew up, you said you'd leave. I... I don't believe you!" He wailed in distress. "You don't want me anymore. You touched another Omega. I don't want... I don't want you touching anyone else! Miao Miao can live on his own too. If you don't want me, I don't want you either! I'm going to lock you up! Wuwu... I'm going to lock you up!"

Xi Siyan was left dumbfounded by his tearful, slurred, and incoherent accusations.

He wondered if he was the seven-year-old child instead, otherwise why couldn't he make sense of this situation.

His Omega wanted to lock him up.

Xi Siyan reached out to wipe his tears. The room suddenly filled with the fragrance of orchids as he comforted his Omega, replenishing the energy he needed with his pheromones.

"Wait, Miao Miao," Xi Siyan suddenly caught onto something odd. "Why did you say... when you were little?"

But clearly, his upset and crying Omega had no intention of answering him.

"Don't cry. You can't cry so intensely right now," his voice was helpless yet gentle. "If you don't believe brother, then lock me up, as long as it makes you happy."

Xi Siyan sat by the bedside for a long time.

This less-than-24-hour running away had plunged him into immense confusion and exhaustion.

The exhaustion came from the ordeal, while the confusion stemmed from Jing Miao's unusual behavior.

Five years ago... or even last month before his heat, Jing Miao wasn't like this.

He was obedient and compliant, yielding to Xi Siyan's every request, but overly shy and calm.

He was completely different from the Jing Miao now.

He retained the obedience and sweetness of adulthood, almost never willful or disobedient, evolving his shyness into a reclusiveness that avoided outsiders. These were all traits Xi Siyan recognized in Jing Miao.

Except for his possessiveness toward Xi Siyan.

Once something seemed off, it was easy to trace the signs.

From the moment he recovered and woke up, the first time he saw Jing Miao, Jing Miao had shown extreme dependence on him.

He wanted to sleep together, to hold tightly, to rush over for kisses and hugs when returning home, to throw tantrums and refuse to let go when leaving.

If Xi Siyan gave him something, even a biscuit, Jing Miao would clutch it tightly, not even sharing it with Su Wan or Xi Yucheng.

And now, Jing Miao was crying, saying he wanted to lock him up and forbid him from touching others.

Xi Siyan began to feel dazed. Which part had he missed that made the child turn out like this?

It wasn't bad; he was just surprised.

Neither an Electra complex nor a brother complex could explain it. He seemed like a possessive lover, surpassing even the territorial instincts of an Alpha.

Xi Siyan looked at Jing Miao's pitifully adorable face after he fell asleep and unconsciously reached out to caress it.

He leaned down and gently took his lips.

The air was filled with the fluctuating fragrance of the Omega's pheromones, which he couldn't control.

Xi Siyan placed Jing Miao's hand on the back of his neck and whispered, "If it's love, then lock me up. I am your Alpha, not your brother."

Xi Siyan brought Jing Miao to the hospital.

He huddled timidly behind Xi Siyan, his face full of reluctance and tears he was holding back, making his eyes glisten.

"No crying," Xi Siyan warned, pinching his cheek. "You must see the doctor today."

Jing Miao lowered his head, trying hard to hold back his tears, and sniffled. "I'm scared."

"Don't be scared, baby." Xi Siyan couldn't bear it in the end and gently wiped the corner of his eye with a handkerchief. "It'll be over soon. Brother will wait for you outside."

"Can't brother come in with me?" Jing Miao asked.

Xi Siyan pointed to the conspicuous warning sign outside the door for Jing Miao to see. "Brother can't go in. We have to follow the rules, right?"

    [Alpha Prohibited]

Jing Miao looked at the sign, bit his lip, and nodded. "I know, brother."

"Good boy, go ahead in. I'll go buy you some milk tea, and you can have it when you come out, okay?" Xi Siyan patiently reassured him, then gave him a kiss on the forehead.

Jing Miao went into the consultation room, glancing back over his shoulder every few steps.

A sign hung above the door.

    Omega VIP Obstetrics.

When Jing Miao came out, he didn't see Xi Siyan, but he saw a little girl.

The girl looked about five or six years old, sitting on the floor, crying and panicking.

Jing Miao gazed at her, stunned.

The girl's little voice kept saying, "Mommy, I can't find Mommy. Where is this? Where's Mommy? Did Mommy leave me?"

    Jing Miao's mind went blank.

Without thinking, he walked over and knelt down beside the little girl.

Almost on instinct, he gently put an arm around her shoulders and started to comfort her without even thinking.

"Shh, don't cry. I'll help you find your mommy."

The little girl instantly stopped crying. Her big eyes were full of trust and liking for him, and her small body snuggled closer into his arms.

"Pretty brother, are you my mommy?"

Tears suddenly started pouring down Jing Miao's face.

He sobbed, heartbroken, completely unable to control himself, while still comforting the little girl. The air filled with the gentle scent of his Snowfield Dream pheromones, so calming that even the green plants in the corner drooped their leaves, as if submitting to the pleasant sensation.

"Miao Miao?" Xi Siyan, milk tea in hand, called out in surprise when he saw Jing Miao standing there in a daze, his pheromone talent unconsciously active.

Jing Miao was startled, as if waking from a dream, and the air cleared once more.

The girl, now without that dreamy comfort, peered up from his arms, confused. "Brother? Are you my mommy?"

    Mommy.

    Who is Mommy?

    It's Su Wan.

    How could it be me?

Jing Miao stood up, stiff, looking at Xi Siyan, a nameless sadness welling up in his heart that he couldn't hold back.

Suddenly, he broke down, falling to his knees, covering his face, and crying as if his heart were being torn apart. "Brother! Brother!"

Xi Siyan was scared to death. He tightly embraced Jing Miao, lowered his head, and bit the Omega's scent gland, performing a temporary mark. "Miao Miao, Miao Miao, it's okay now. Brother is here!"

Pregnant Omegas are sensitive and fragile; any emotional fluctuation can cause them to break down.

Alphas should try to stay by their side as much as possible, and when necessary, use temporary marks to alleviate the Omega's distress.

Jing Miao gradually calmed down, collapsing weakly in Xi Siyan's arms, whimpering like a kitten. "Brother, I feel like I've lost something very important."

"It feels like... I threw it away with my own hands. It hurts so much, brother."

    ——

    Hello, my child.

You arrived in early spring, born out of love.

Unfortunately, as an Omega whose pheromone is the rose, I'm not very good at growing flowers.

I wonder if you like roses? They also bloom in spring, climbing and covering entire walls with blossoms—there are pinkish-white 'Eden', pale purple 'Blue Rain', and orange-red 'Tropical Sunset'.

Your grandmother is a skilled gardener. She successfully cultivated a beautiful Snowfield Dream in the villa.

It's a pity the season isn't right. By next spring, when you are born, you should see the courtyard filled with white roses.

Oh, and Daddy's pheromone is the white Snowfield Dream. Father describes it as the only pure white moonlight blooming in a watery, dreamlike sky.

If you don't like roses, you must at least like orchids.

Hmm, but the Suguanheding Orchid is even harder to care for than Daddy's roses. You might not often see your father's beautiful, noble orchid in bloom.

But when you meet your father, you can imagine it.

We love you very much, and we won't allow you not to love us.
