Chapter 10: Turns Out She's the Fighter

Getting hired was pretty straightforward; just filling out a form was enough.

"Manager Zhang, I'm done filling it out. Could you please check if it's okay?"

Lu Yingxiao handed the form to Manager Zhang.

Manager Zhang responded warmly, "Miss Lu, you're too polite. This is my duty. It's what I should do."

Special Assistant Chen side-eyed Manager Zhang.

This old fox. The only one in the whole company who could make him use such respectful terms was President Gao.

Ignoring the mockery in Special Assistant Chen's eyes, Manager Zhang focused on reviewing the form.

    The form required personal information.

He wanted to deduce Lu Yingxiao's specific background from this personal information.

Looking down, Manager Zhang immediately frowned.

Lu Yingxiao asked, "Manager Zhang, is there any problem with how I filled out the form?"

Of course there was a problem!

In the personal information section, aside from name, gender, hometown, phone number, and ID number being filled in carefully, everything else was either shortened or just left blank.

Even in the emergency contact section, she'd only put down 'sister.'

This sister wasn't named either; there was just a phone number.

If it were any other new employee, Manager Zhang would have already scolded them harshly. But because Lu Yingxiao was personally brought in by Special Assistant Chen, and after his earlier probing, it was clear Miss Lu wasn't just anyone, Manager Zhang smiled and said, "No problem at all. I just wanted to say, your handwriting is truly beautiful; you could easily become a calligrapher."

    Special Assistant Chen thought, "..."

If Lu Yingxiao weren't present, he would have really given Manager Zhang a thumbs up.

This flattery was on another level—he couldn't even compete.

"You're too kind." Lu Yingxiao smiled modestly, wasn't the least bit surprised by Manager Zhang's flattery.

From the moment she followed Special Assistant Chen into the HR department, she'd already picked up on everyone's intense curiosity about her, which mainly stemmed from Special Assistant Chen. Probably everyone was secretly guessing what significant background she must have for him to personally bring her to complete the onboarding.

Earlier, while filling out the form, she'd also noticed Manager Zhang sneakily pulling Special Assistant Chen aside for a whispered conversation in the corner.

She hadn't heard what they were saying.

But she trusted that someone in his position wouldn't just give away her real identity.

Even if he didn't say anything, it wouldn't stop others from guessing.

Manager Zhang would still pick up from Special Assistant Chen's hints that her background was indeed quite significant.

And sure enough, her casually filled-out form instantly confirmed what Manager Zhang was thinking about her.

In the workplace, to avoid being bullied, you either need formidable skills or a formidable background.

Lu Yingxiao was confident that even without a formidable background, she could establish herself in the company. But since others were actively attributing a background to her, making things a bit easier, she had no reason to refuse, right?

As long as the guesses didn't involve Gao Yan.

After completing the onboarding procedures, Special Assistant Chen took Lu Yingxiao to the President's Office on the top floor.

Manager Zhang enthusiastically saw them to the elevator.

Manager Zhang only returned to the HR department after seeing them off.

As soon as he returned, colleagues gathered around, chattering and asking, "Manager, what's that woman's background anyway?"

"Her background must be really deep, to have Special Assistant Chen personally bring her for onboarding."

But what everyone really wanted to say was: usually, only President Gao could make you serve so attentively, but today you were fawning over a new employee like a lackey—there must be something fishy about that.

Manager Zhang might be slick, but his mouth was tight. "What background? She's just an ordinary junior secretary in the President's Office."

Seeing everyone's completely disbelieving expressions, Manager Zhang's face darkened. "Do you all not have enough work? Keep asking, and you'll be staying late to work overtime tonight!"

Everyone immediately stopped crowding around Manager Zhang and returned to their workstations.

But privately, they were still gossiping like crazy. Some even directly messaged colleagues in the President's Office, trying to dig up something from there.

The secretaries in the President's Office were also confused.

They hadn't heard anything about this at all.

While they were still puzzled, Special Assistant Chen came into the secretarial office with Lu Yingxiao.

Seven or eight secretaries all looked at Lu Yingxiao.

Special Assistant Chen said beside them, "I suppose you've all heard the rumors. This is our new colleague, Lu Yingxiao. Let's give her a welcome."

The secretaries gave a round of applause.

After the applause died down, Lu Yingxiao stepped forward and responded gracefully, "Hello everyone, my name is Lu Yingxiao. I'm very happy to join Shengzao and become colleagues with all of you."

    The secretaries clapped again politely.

Special Assistant Chen looked at a short-haired, efficient woman. "Secretary Wan, Lu Yingxiao is new here. Please guide her for a few days. Once she can work independently, you can assign her other tasks."

    Wan Hui agreed.

Special Assistant Chen then said to Lu Yingxiao, "Secretary Wan is the chief secretary of our secretarial office. If you have any questions about work, feel free to ask her."

    Lu Yingxiao: "Okay."

After Special Assistant Chen left, Wan Hui arranged Lu Yingxiao's workstation to her right.

To Lu Yingxiao's right was also a colleague named Xia Huaimeng, who was very outgoing and spoke bluntly.

She directly asked Lu Yingxiao, "I heard from HR colleagues that you have a big background. Is that true?"

Lu Yingxiao: "Huh? I don't know about that."

She then asked Xia Huaimeng in return, "What background do I have?"

Xia Huaimeng: "That's what we should ask you."

Lu Yingxiao shook her head. "I don't know."

Xia Huaimeng didn't really buy it.

The other secretaries in the office appeared diligently focused, but were secretly all ears, eavesdropping on the conversation between Lu Yingxiao and Xia Huaimeng.

Wan Hui glanced at everyone and said to Xia Huaimeng, "Don't go poking your nose into other people's business."

    Xia Huaimeng ducked her head.

As Lu Yingxiao was new and unfamiliar with the procedures, Wan Hui told her to start by sorting through the files.

A huge pile of documents covered half the desk, making it a bit dizzying to look at.

Someone gently poked her right shoulder.

    Lu Yingxiao turned around.

Gao Yan's fierce face loomed right in front of her, so close they were nearly nose-to-nose.

Lu Yingxiao's face paled, and her hand shot out to push him away.

Gao Yan's fierce face immediately vanished, replaced by Xia Huaimeng's beaming a "praise me" smile. "How was that? Good for waking you up, huh?"

    Lu Yingxiao frowned, "Waking up?"

    Xia Huaimeng, "Yeah."

She held up the photo of Gao Yan again, pointing at his all-around intimidating face, and asked, "If it scared you, it did the job. It wakes you up. Whenever I feel drowsy at work, I give myself a scare with a look at Mr. Gao's photo. It's much more effective than iced coffee, and the key is it's free—pretty green, huh?"

Lu Yingxiao was amused, "You're such a genius."

Xia Huaimeng made no pretense of modesty and proudly accepted, "I think so too."

She took out a new photo of Gao Yan from her desk drawer and asked Lu Yingxiao, "Do you want one? Truth be told, everyone in our secretarial office has a photo of Mr. Gao."

Lu Yingxiao, "All for the sake of staying awake?"

Xia Huaimeng, "Of course, otherwise, would it be out of admiration for him?"

"Eww~ that would be too scary. You'd never need iced coffee again in your life."

The topic gradually extended, and Xia Huaimeng began to admire Gao Yan's future wife, "Whoever dares to marry Mr. Gao must be a true warrior."

Lu Yingxiao, the current warrior in question: "..."

Originally, she didn't want Gao Yan's photo, but since Xia Huaimeng said everyone in the secretarial office had one,

if she didn't take it, she would seem too out of place.

Lu Yingxiao had to take it.

Não achei nada legal usar a foto de outra pessoa de forma depreciativa…… Se fosse a foto dela pra espantar mosca dúvida que ela iria gostar 🙄🫩
