Chapter 30
byChapter 30
Amid the surging spiritual power, the stretch of sea rapidly collapsed, with monstrous waves towering.
She could still hear that oppressive, rumbling roar, her ears throbbing faintly.
Lu Sisi’s expression was glazed over; she stared blankly at the night sky, feeling a bone-deep chill. Her sea of consciousness was in chaos, the horrifying scenes from moments ago replaying like a nightmare, unceasingly echoing in her mind.
Without her realizing, the sky outside had already fallen completely dark, with only a few stars dotting the faintly lit sky. Not until a steady stream of raindrops struck her face, bringing a hint of coolness, did she snap back to reality, a deep fear flooding her face.
Lu Sisi, still shaken, hugged her arms, her face pale as a ghost. She looked helplessly at Chang Ye, a sheen of tears glistening in her eyes, like a frightened fawn in the woods, utterly pitiful. She frantically grabbed Chang Ye’s sleeve, her voice choked with sobs. “Master, Senior Heijiao… what exactly is going on?”
She still couldn’t understand why her master had brought her to this strange place, forcing her to witness Senior Heijiao’s death.
Before this, she had never dreamed that the invincible, godlike Senior Heijiao could be utterly defenseless, killed so savagely.
Especially since such a formidable person was Lu Yuanyin’s Dao companion...
This outcome was utterly unacceptable to her. Everything lately felt like a never-ending nightmare, wearing her out. Lu Sisi felt as if she'd fallen into an icy pit, looking at Chang Ye in panic.
She sobbed uncontrollably, like she might pass out any second.
She hoped that Immortal Lord Changye would comfort and soothe her.
However, as time ticked by, her disappointment grew. Chang Ye only stared darkly at the vast sea in the distance, with no intention of comforting her or offering an explanation.
Lu Sisi’s gaze shifted, noticing bright red blood dripping from his fingertips, pooling at his feet, yet he seemed oblivious.
The sea breeze lifted his wide robe; starlight glimmered in his eyes, and his cheeks were stained with bright blood. Half his face was hidden in shadow, his expression gloomy, radiating a bone-chilling coldness.
Ever since Lu Yuanyin became pregnant and left with that dragon, her master had been in this terrifying state.
Lu Sisi choked back a sob, but saw Chang Ye lower his eyes slightly, looking at her coldly. He said in a deep voice, “If you want to live, don’t speak of tonight’s events to anyone.”
Lu Sisi’s heart jolted, her face losing all color. She asked instinctively, “What do you mean?”
But in the blink of an eye, the man before her, with a sword strapped to his back, had vanished into the thick night.
Lu Sisi grew even more panicked. She stared in the direction where Chang Ye had disappeared, and finally couldn’t help but crouch down, hugging her knees and bursting into tears.
Chang Ye, sword in hand, walked toward the shore with a dark expression. A tall figure appeared slowly under the dappled tree shadows, leaning lazily against a tree. He listened to the crying from behind and raised an eyebrow in surprise. “You left her there alone? Aren’t you afraid she’ll be eaten by those sea beasts?”
Chang Ye sneered. “No matter who dies, she won’t.”
The red-robed cultivator grew even more curious, staring at the grim Chang Ye. Unable to resist, he asked again, “Did you deliberately send Senior Heijiao to his death? Did you already know that dragon’s identity? You could have taken him with you when you fled just now.
What exactly are you trying to do? What’s Lu Sisi’s real identity? Did you discover something?!”
Chang Ye paused for a moment. He looked at the red-robed cultivator's curious face, paused for a moment, then said coldly, “Everyone who goes against Lu Sisi dies a bad death.”
The red-robed cultivator was at a loss for words. He looked at the blood on Chang Ye’s face, his expression darkening.
The waves surged. Lu Yuanyin was swept along by the giant wave, the sudden weightlessness making her instinctively grab his robe.
As his words fell, there was a moment of confusion in her sea of consciousness. Noticing the strange sensation on her lips, her eyes flew wide open. Her eyes felt dry and stinging, surrounded by pitch black, all she could see was a pair of crimson pupils, like clear gems.
His eyes were dark, his gaze gloomy.
The seawater lifted his long, snow-white hair; as far as the eye could see, white and black hair entangled intimately. Lu Yuanyin belatedly realized that Huo Wuyan seemed to be kissing her.
Lu Yuanyin’s body stiffened, her sea of consciousness blank for a moment. She and Huo Wuyan had done many intimate things—everything that could be done, they had almost all done, spending whole nights tangled in dark caves, locked in desperate embraces by cold pools.
But they had never kissed.
For Lu Yuanyin, only people who liked each other would kiss.
Her beginning with Huo Wuyan had originated from a sudden vengeful impulse; she had always harbored an inexplicable malice toward him.
Even in recent days, they had been cold and distant, both subconsciously avoiding talking about those chaotic, debauched days.
The person before her seemed to notice her bewilderment. His brow furrowed, and the large hand pinching her cheek tightened slightly, prying her lips apart.
A familiar yet unfamiliar breath closed in instantly, accompanied by a warm aura, and that softness touched her lips again.
A warm jade bead slipped into her mouth.
The big hand on her waist tightened slightly, pulling her closer, as if to melt her into his bones.
Huo Wuyan looked at the pale-faced Lu Yuanyin in his arms, hesitated for a rare moment, then said softly, “It’s okay now.”
His hot breath fell on her snow-white ear. Her long eyelashes fluttered in panic. Lu Yuanyin pressed her red lips together, her slender fingers unconsciously clutching his solid arm.
She had always thought Huo Wuyan’s voice was seductive, like a clear stone striking jade, with a touch of coldness.
But at this moment, his tone lost its usual coldness and indifference, hoarse, laced with a desire he himself had not realized. His voice fell heavily on her ears through the layers of waves. Lu Yuanyin felt her ear tips tingle; she instinctively reached up to rub her itchy earlobe.
Just as she was at a loss, the person beside her, holding her waist, cut through the waves and rushed out of the vast waters. The tide before them receded, and fresh air filled her lungs.
Lu Yuanyin coughed twice, the salty seawater blurring her vision. She shook her wet hair, gasping and greedily sucking in fresh air.
Her black hair clung wetly to her pale cheeks, making her face look no bigger than a palm, looking both disheveled and pitiful.
As if remembering something, Lu Yuanyin, regardless of other matters, anxiously looked at Huo Wuyan. “Qing Nong is in the water too. He’s injured. Save him…”
By now, Qing Nong had almost lost consciousness. If they were any later, she feared Qing Nong would be devoured alive by those sea beasts.
Huo Wuyan looked at the worry and urgency on her face, his brow furrowed. He had no idea that the relationship between the two had become so close.
He said coldly, “He’s fine.”
A gentle breeze brushed by, ripples spreading across the sea surface. Without them noticing, a fine drizzle had begun to fall from the sky, tiny droplets landing on her hair with the night breeze, bringing a hint of chill.
Lu Yuanyin breathed a sigh of relief at his words, leaning wearily into Huo Wuyan’s arms, looking listless. Her eyes swept over him, noticing his clothes were soaked, clinging wetly to his body, highlighting his firm muscles.
The red tassels under his ears dripped water, trickling down from his hair, over his deep collarbone, then following the contours of his muscles as they slowly disappeared into the thick fabric. The sight was oddly sexy.
Lu Yuanyin then realized how dangerously intimate their distance was. She instinctively took a step back, but her leg gave out, a sharp pain shooting through it, and she fell backward uncontrollably.
Just as she was about to hit the ground, the big hand on her waist tightened abruptly, pulling her into his embrace, her cheek slamming into his firm chest.
Lu Yuanyin’s breath hitched. Huo Wuyan bent slightly, then scooped her up in his arms and strode toward a seaside boulder.
Huo Wuyan’s gaze paused. Her skirt had been shredded by the sea beast, stained with large patches of dark blood.
A sharp tearing sound rang out. He tugged slightly, ripping open her white pants. On her slender calf was a purple bite mark, the wound still seeping poisonous blood.
Normally, a wound like that wouldn't even make them blink; even if they lost a limb, they wouldn’t care. But the mark on her snowy skin was like a crack in fine jade, impossible to ignore.
Huo Wuyan frowned.
Lu Yuanyin's head was spinning as she stared at the bleeding wound on her leg. She blinked, and after a moment, she said in a weak voice, "That sea beast's teeth are poisonous..."
She slowly fumbled inside her sleeve, only to find that her storage pouch must have fallen out during the fight with the sea beasts, and her detox pills were all inside it. Her heart sank as she looked at her empty sleeve.
Lu Yuanyin furrowed her delicate brows, parting her red lips slightly as she asked in a small voice, "Can you find a medical cultivator for me?"
Although this beast venom didn't seem fatal, if it stayed in her body for too long, it would surely cause some harm...
She looked up at Huo Wuyan before her, only to see his lashes lowered as he gazed down at the wound on her calf. He said coldly, "Trouble."
His expression was indifferent, with no intention of leaving.
Lu Yuanyin gradually fell silent. She pressed her red lips together and clenched her hand inside her sleeve.
She had forgotten—Huo Wuyan probably despised her.
He might even wish for her to die from this beast venom.
Huo Wuyan was never a kind person. He was violent by nature, indifferent, and human life meant nothing to him—less than dust.
She gazed at the vast sea in the distance, thinking about how to find her storage pouch in this boundless ocean. The more she thought, the more her head ached. Just as she was lost in thought, she felt a large, burning hand settle on her calf.
Lu Yuanyin was stunned.
Under her astonished gaze, Huo Wuyan bent down on one knee before her, his well-defined knuckles gently gripping her slender ankle as he observed the hideous bite mark on her calf with a detached expression.
His white hair fell, brushing lightly against her fair calf, bringing a faint tickling sensation.
Lu Yuanyin's eyelashes trembled, and her slender fingers unconsciously clutched the wet hem of her skirt.
There were still traces of blood that hadn't yet dried on her leg.
Huo Wuyan had always hated dirty things. Yet his gaze paused when he saw Lu Yuanyin looking at him with eyes full of shimmering tears. Her eyes were misty, carrying tension and unease.
She looked like a muddy little dog that had fallen in the water—pitiful and miserable.
His rough thumb pressed against her slender calf, the soft white flesh sinking slightly, forming shallow dimples.
He silently stared at the delicate white calf in his hand. Though she looked thin, she had soft, tender flesh that felt wonderful to touch. He knew that with just a slight touch, this delicate skin would bruise.
But now, this beautiful leg, so tempting to hold and knead, was marred with bleeding bite marks.
Behind him came the low roar of the sea beast. Huo Wuyan rubbed her slender calf with a cool expression, then did something even he hadn't expected.
He lowered his head and silently licked the venomous blood from her wound.
The saliva of dragons had detoxifying and healing properties. He had seen mother dragons in his clan gently licking their cubs' wounds.
But Huo Wuyan had never done such a thing. He was cold by nature, disliked physical contact, and detested dirty things. Before this, he would have simply snapped her neck to put her out of her misery.
A sharp gasp escaped Lu Yuanyin's lips, and the fingers on his shoulder tightened abruptly.
Huo Wuyan spat out the venomous blood.
Lu Yuanyin stared at the tall male cultivator crouched before her, disbelief plain on her face. She never imagined Huo Wuyan would do something like this for her... His rough dragon horns occasionally brushed against her bare skin, bringing a slight tickle. Lu Yuanyin's fingers curled slightly.
She stared blankly at him.
Only when the blood flowing from the wound returned to its normal color did Huo Wuyan wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth.
He raised his eyes and gave Lu Yuanyin a cold look.
The neat hairstyle she'd had earlier had been ruined by the seawater, her hair tangled messily down her back, with a few wet strands sticking to her pale cheeks. Her fair face was flushed, her eyes moist.
At this moment, she was staring at him in complete bewilderment.
She wore a thin red dress today, which looked beautiful and flowing during the day, but now it was soaked, clinging to her body and outlining her graceful figure. Cold drops dripped from her hair, slowly soaking into her clothes. Her collar was wide open, her clothes disheveled, revealing a delicate collarbone and pale expanses of skin.
A lingering fragrance wafted to his nose. Huo Wuyan's eyes darkened, his breathing growing heavier.
Countless dark thoughts grew in the night, silently taking root and sprouting. He lowered his eyes, concealing the dark emotions within.
Voices came from the distant shore. Sensing the rapidly approaching auras, Huo Wuyan bent down slightly, picked up the young woman sitting on the reef, and silently walked toward the shadows.
A fragrance rose in the darkness.
Lu Yuanyin curled up tiredly in his arms, her head dizzy and heavy. She had fought desperately with the Black Flood Dragon earlier, then been poisoned by the beast. Now, she was utterly exhausted. She gave a soft sigh and whispered, "Thank you..."
The night wind blew, and both of them were soaked and clammy. Lu Yuanyin shivered and instinctively pressed closer to the warmth behind her.
But then she heard a low grunt from behind. The arm around her tightened, and Huo Wuyan said in a deep voice, "Stop rubbing."
His voice came out husky.
Lu Yuanyin froze. When it dawned on her what was pressing against her waist, her face flushed crimson, and her body stiffened instantly.
