Chapter 47
by 个包子哒1Chapter 47
Lu Yuanyin has been busy with cultivation these past two days. Every day after breakfast, Qing Nong and the Old Medical Cultivator would come to pick up the little eggs with expectant faces, take them for medicinal baths and sunbathing, and then return them at sunset.
Qing Nong puffed out his chest and swore to her that they were professionals at taking care of babies, and leaving them in his care was the best choice she could make!
Lu Yuanyin was happy to be a hands-off manager.
However, today, Qing Nong arrived half an hour later than usual. Not until the sun was high in the sky did he finally hurry into the inn. Qing Nong patted his head with lingering fear, his face a bit pale. "Holy crap, those things outside are really freaky..."
Lu Yuanyin stood up, and saw Qing Nong gulp down a large cup of cold tea before quickly moving to her side, speaking in a panicked tone, "You have no idea, I just saw a bunch of corpses being fished out from the river. Those bodies were all waterlogged and bloated. I swear I'm gonna have nightmares tonight, help!"
Lu Yuanyin glanced at him. "Bodies in the river are normal. You're actually scared of that?"
Many people, after committing murder and robbery, would dump the bodies in the river. Back in their Hehuan Sect days, a fair number of disciples died from love-related murder, and over a thousand corpses had been fished out of the surrounding rivers. The corpse divers were shocked by the sheer density of bodies when they swam to the bottom.
Qing Nong fell silent for a moment, then coughed guiltily and mumbled under his breath, "I just went to take a look. Guess what? Those people's spiritual roots had all been dug out!"
Holding a teacup, Qing Nong mysteriously leaned closer to her. "I suspect all those people are connected to that Lu Sisi. I know a forbidden technique to steal spirit roots and remake your own."
Lu Yuanyin's heart skipped a beat. She frowned slightly, looking at Qing Nong with some surprise. Lu Sisi might have her little tricks, but she's not some evil monster. Besides, in this book, she was the sweet and naive pure-as-snow heroine...
But thinking about her suddenly recovered spiritual root and the massacre of the Lu family, Lu Yuanyin couldn't help but fall silent. Those people have already done who knows how many evil things behind the scenes. What's a few hundred more innocent lives to them now?
Qing Nong scratched his head, looking torn. "But it's not a sure thing. Let me check it out first before we decide."
He sighed softly, then took out a jade bottle from the medicine case behind him. "Drink this later. It'll really boost your energy!
You seem way better today. Later, I'll have the old man take a look at you. Maybe in a couple of days you can leave the room, and then we can get the hell out of this place!"
"I just think those folks are seriously sketchy."
With that, he rubbed his hands vigorously on his clothes and looked eagerly toward the inner room. He hadn't seen the little ones all night—he missed them to death, boohoo!
Just the thought of those old dragons showing up at Chongyao Sect in a few days gave him a splitting headache. Knowing those old farts, once they arrive, he might not even get to touch a single eggshell again!
Lu Yuanyin looked at the closed door opposite her. She blinked and suddenly realized she hadn't seen Huo Wuyan in the past two days. Cradling a cup of tea, she asked quietly, "Do you know where Huo Wuyan went?"
Qing Nong's eyes flickered. "You'll find out in a few days." He carefully held the two eggs in his arms and left the room contentedly.
Lu Yuanyin propped her chin on her hand, gazing at the passing crowd with a wistful look.
Amidst the whinnying of horses, several unicorn celestial horses, clad in golden armor with flames beneath their hooves, pulled a carriage as it swiftly crossed the mountains and entered the territory of Chongyao Sect. Showers of fiery sparks rained down.
The carriage was inlaid with huge eastern pearls, and mermaid silk curtains hung down. Soon, the carriage came to a gentle stop, and a subtle fragrance of flowers drifted out. Two female cultivators alighted gracefully and composedly.
The nearby cultivators looked up without thinking, then just as casually looked away and went back to wildly discussing the bodies discovered that morning. After the bloody storm of the last few days, these two days at Chongyao Sect were just too boring.
They couldn't wait for those people to cause even more trouble!
The two female cultivators lingered coldly among the crowd for a moment before gracefully departing. Along the way, Bai Rongrong overheard the most common words in their conversations: "dragon" and "Lu Yuanyin."
The name of that lowly human female cultivator.
Bai Rongrong's delicate brows furrowed slightly. Looking at the unfamiliar mountains around her, her expression seemed a bit conflicted. She glanced at the beautiful woman beside her, and worry flashed in her eyes. "Mother, if we came here without permission, won't brother and the elders be angry if they find out..."
Bai Qian gently smoothed a few stray strands of hair at her temples and said softly, "It's fine."
"Did you remember everything I told you?"
Seeing the determination in her mother's eyes, Bai Rongrong hesitated for a moment, then nodded heavily. "I remember!"
Bai Qian looked at the bustling streets and sighed softly. "If it weren't absolutely necessary, your mother wouldn't come here to take a risk. In a couple of days, those old relics will arrive in Chongyao Sect's territory. By then, getting rid of her will be nearly impossible!"
She hadn't expected that woman to give birth prematurely and deliver the children early, catching them off guard. They had no choice but to abandon their original plans and act ahead of schedule.
Bai Qian caressed her daughter's fair cheek, a gentle smile appearing on her beautiful face. "I'm doing all this for you."
As she spoke, the jade token at her waist flickered faintly. Bai Qian glanced at it casually and said softly, "Wait here for me. I'll be right back."
Watching her graceful figure slowly disappear into the crowd, Bai Rongrong sat silently by the window. She looked coldly at the unfamiliar scene outside. After a long while, she frowned slightly.
With a slight force of her fingertips, the teacup in her hand shot out violently, striking a willow tree outside the window with such force that the fragile cup embedded deep into the wood.
A thin male cultivator with triangular eyes scurried out from behind the tree. He knelt in panic. "What are your orders, Fairy?"
Bai Rongrong squinted, looking at the crowd outside the window, and asked coldly, "Do you know where my brother is staying?"
The Triangular Eyes quickly replied eagerly, "The elder is currently staying in an inn in the city. Shall I take you there?"
Bai Rongrong looked at the Triangular Eyes, then turned away in disgust. This man was so ugly it gave her a headache. She suddenly asked coldly, "And that human woman?"
"She's staying in the same inn as the elder. Would the Fairy like to go take a look?"
Bai Rongrong snorted coldly at that, then abruptly stood up. Today, she wanted to see what kind of woman could make Huo Wuyan, that cold and heartless dragon, blossom like an iron tree and stir with romantic feelings.
Bai Rongrong strode out of the sect, following the Triangular Eyes into the city. The further they walked, the more disgusted she felt inside.
Huo Wuyan always preferred peace and quiet. She had no idea how he could tolerate these noisy humans.
The Triangular Eyes led her to a restaurant and pointed at the inn across the street. "Every day after lunch, that human female cultivator comes to the courtyard to get some fresh air. If you wait here a bit, Fairy, you might catch a glimpse of her."
The storyteller on stage was in full swing, making the restaurant especially noisy. She lowered her eyelashes and coldly watched the crowded streets below. Bai Rongrong suddenly recalled the first time she saw Huo Wuyan.
When she was young, she was the daughter of the White Crane clan leader, with a noble status. But her father died unexpectedly, and her mother drowned in tears. Before they could recover from the grief, those once kind uncles and elders suddenly showed their true colors. They greedily devoured power and even tried to take over her mother.
Those days were hell. She never dared to sleep soundly for fear that when she woke up, she would see her mother's corpse.
Later, amidst the scornful gazes of everyone, Bai Qian married Huo Wuyan's father. From then on, no one dared to bully the mother and daughter again.
Back then, she didn't understand why everyone was so afraid of Huo Wuyan—just hearing his name made them keep their distance.
Until she saw Huo Wuyan seated at the high platform during the Ten Thousand Beasts Banquet. He wore a black robe, a sword hanging at his waist, his white hair tied high. His features were deep and handsome, like a divine lord or celestial demon from those storybooks—noble and mysterious.
Huo Wuyan was the most beautiful person she had ever seen.
The surroundings were chaotic. Men were holding beauties, reeking of alcohol, their expressions indescribably ferocious. Only he sat expressionlessly on the high platform, detached from the revelry.
At that moment, a thought suddenly emerged in her mind: if only she could marry Huo Wuyan. Bai Rongrong worked hard for this goal for a long time, but she never even got to touch the hem of his clothes.
If it weren't for him having a child with that human woman, she would have almost thought he was impotent, unable to appreciate a beauty like her.
After a while, Bai Rongrong frowned impatiently. She had waited a long time but still hadn't seen the person she wanted. She glared coldly at the Triangular Eyes beside him. "Where exactly is that human female cultivator? If you're wasting my time, you know the consequences..."
The Triangular Eyes stiffened. He forced a dry laugh and quickly said, "Almost, almost! Don't rush, Fairy!"
He looked anxiously at the passing crowd. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. "Fairy, look! The one in red is her!"
Bai Rongrong frowned deeply. There were at least eighty or a hundred women in red nearby. How was she supposed to know which one he meant?
She regretted it a little; she shouldn't have brought this fool out in the first place. Bai Rongrong frowned deeply, following the male cultivator's finger, and looked impatiently at the crowd. "Let me see what kind of person could make Huo Wuyan stay here for so long for her..."
The male cultivator quickly responded, his expression flattering, chattering incessantly, "Just a common beauty, not worthy of the Fairy's celestial grace!"
Suddenly, Bai Rongrong's words came to a halt.
She stared straight into the noisy crowd. That human woman was already marked with the heavy, unique aura of Huo Wuyan; she didn't even need to look twice to lock onto her presence in the crowd.
Bai Rongrong fixed her gaze on the slender figure. Lu Yuanyin was wearing a bright red skirt, and as she moved, the crimson hem seemed like slowly blooming sal flowers. She paused under a tree, and dappled sunlight bathed her through the gaps in the leaves and branches.
Her almond-shaped eyes were stunning, with jet-black pupils and sparkling irises, as if the starry sky had fallen into her gaze. Her snow-white skin, dark hair, and red lips complemented each other, making her indescribably radiant and beautiful.
The moment she appeared, the bustling crowd behind her, the noisy market street, and the exquisite red bricks and green tiles all seemed to lose their color in an instant.
Compared to Huo Wuyan in his youth, Lu Yuanyin was now undoubtedly more dazzling and beautiful.
Wherever she went, the people around instinctively turned their heads, unable to resist sneaking glances in her direction, their eyes filled with awe.
Triangular Eyes glanced at Lu Yuanyin and then said in a low voice, "The one beside her is Qing Nong. He is very perceptive; Fairy, be careful not to reveal your tracks."
But after he spoke, he received no response for a long time.
Triangular Eyes looked up in surprise, only to see Bai Rongrong staring intently at Lu Yuanyin in the crowd, a blank expression on her face.
It wasn't until Lu Yuanyin and Qing Nong completely disappeared into the crowd that Bai Rongrong seemed to snap out of a dream. Her fingers unconsciously moved to her chest.
Triangular Eyes, seeing her strange behavior, was baffled and carefully called out, "Fairy?"
But Bai Rongrong suddenly said coldly, "She looks like a little cherry."
Triangular Eyes stared, baffled.
Triangular Eyes was stunned, and he looked at Bai Rongrong with a complicated expression. *Have you lost your mind?*
