Chapter 14
byChapter 14
Su Xingze clutched his blanket and pillow and knocked on Lu Xingwen's door.
The man inside was in a video meeting. To let him in, he first asked Assistant Xu to pause, then got up to open the door.
Su Xingze smiled with the blanket in his arms, stepping inside before saying, "Xiaolu, the door to my hospital room is broken. I've come to crash with you."
The culprit leaned to the side with a soft chuckle. "Come in."
As soon as he entered, he noticed there were actually two beds inside, clearly set up ahead of time.
Su Xingze was puzzled. "This bed..."
Lu Xingwen explained, "Dr. Zhao said your gland would get infected. I freaked out and kicked your door in, so I had the doctor prepare a new bed for you."
Su Xingze obviously wasn't going to grill him over something so minor. He sat down on the new bed and noticed that Lu Xingwen's computer was still on the video meeting page. He lowered his voice and said, "Go back to work. Like I'd blame you over a door? Actually, I was thinking—it's been a while since we've shared a bed and talked, so I was thinking we could squeeze in together and chat under the moon. Since you already prepared a new bed, it must have cost money, so I'll sleep on the new one."
"..." After a moment of silence, Lu Xingwen looked at the extra hospital bed, wishing it would vanish right then and there!
Lu Xingwen regretted it deeply and forced out, "It was cheap."
"What?" Su Xingze yawned. He realized he was seriously sleep-deprived, drowsy all the time. Maybe it was because he'd woken up so early today, so he needed to make up for lost sleep.
Lu Xingwen returned to the computer. "Nothing."
"Xiaolu, back when you first graduated high school, were you tired all the time too?" Su Xingze lay down properly, pulling up the blanket, and complained about himself: "I don't know if it's 'cause my memories are still stuck at seventeen, but I get drowsy so easily now."
Back when he'd just graduated high school—that was the eighth month that person had been in Su Xingze's body. Lu Xingwen was living in the pain of losing him, working his ass off to feed that person's ambition and greed, to stop him from hurting Chen Chen's body.
During that period, he slept less than three hours a day, drinking himself blind with all kinds of bosses to land investments, learning to absorb new knowledge and business. Even if he'd wanted to sleep, there was barely time. If it weren't for his top-tier Alpha physique, he would've burned out long ago.
Later, when the company grew and he had plenty of employees and time to sleep, Lu Xingwen still didn't want to.
When he closed his eyes, it was pitch black. He couldn't see a thing. He was scared—scared of being stuck in the dark forever, scared of finding out it was all fake, scared that Chen Chen would truly never come back.
There was no light in the darkness; he couldn't see a thing. Only in the daylight did he feel like he was really alive.
Su Xingze noticed the Alpha next to him seemed off—his eyes weren't on the laptop at all. He reached out and waved a hand. "If you can't remember, whatever. Just focus on the meeting."
Out of nowhere, his hand was grabbed. Lu Xingwen shot up, completely ignoring the employee's report, but gripping Su Xingze's hands tight and asking, "Chen Chen, you'll stay with me forever, right? You won't leave me again, will you?"
Though it was sudden, Su Xingze understood the pain in his heart. Over all these years, hadn't he also only had Lu Xingwen as a friend? Su Xingze was all for it. "Yeah, we're best friends."
No, we're not best friends—we're the best damn husbands.
Lu Xingwen clenched his fists under his sleeves, only letting go when his nails dug into his skin. He forced himself back to the computer with a smile. "Chen Chen, thank you."
"Don't be like that. I'm so tired—I'll nap for a bit, then get up and wash the veggies." Su Xingze lay back down on the bed and fell asleep almost instantly.
Everyone in the meeting was quietly eating their popcorn. The employee giving the report didn't get chewed out because the boss was busy chatting with his boyfriend, and the proposal still got approved.
For the first time, Xingze's employees felt meetings were actually fun. Assistant Xu noticed the boss was zoning out and jotted down all the meeting's key points.
Good thing the company was stable now—if this had been five years ago when it was just starting out, it wouldn't have survived the boss slacking off for a day.
Midway through, the meeting was paused again when Lu Xingwen went to the bathroom.
The pent-up rage in his chest had nowhere to go, and the pheromones that had built up over time had no meds to regulate them.
The exhaust fan was turned on. Lu Xingwen took a small knife and made a cut on his own gland. Blood gushed out with the thick pheromones, filling the whole bathroom with a fiery scent, like it could ignite at any second.
He feared that everything now was a dream, so he'd stopped his pheromone suppressants. Without medication and without an Omega to soothe him, the pheromone buildup grew increasingly disordered, already causing headaches and intensely severe gland pain.
Slicing open the gland to release pheromones was just a band-aid—like drinking poison to quench your thirst. But Lu Xingwen didn't do it for that reason; he did it purely for the pain.
Only pain could prove he was still alive.
Telling himself that none of this was a dream.
When Su Xingze woke up, it was an hour and a half later. Lu Xingwen's meeting had ended, and he was in the kitchen washing vegetables.
It was now eleven in the morning. He'd caught up on sleep, felt less drowsy, and got up to help in the kitchen.
Su Xingze wasn't good with a knife, so he washed the vegetables. Each time he finished one, Lu Xingwen chopped it.
The Alpha rolled up his sleeves for convenience, revealing smooth, defined muscles, slender fingers, and perfectly proportioned knuckles. Even the protruding wrist bone slid and rolled with each chopping motion, exuding an extraordinary sexual tension.
Su Xingze glanced at his own palm and wrist, finding that his looked quite good too—just smaller than Lu Xingwen's. Still, his wrist bone was nice to look at: round and full, thin-skinned with plenty of filling.
But his skin had turned a light pink again from washing the vegetables, just like the skin around his gland earlier.
It seemed the skin around the gland was thinner—a simple kiss or lick could change its color. The skin on his wrist was thicker, requiring more rough handling.
Su Xingze found it amusing, rubbing it again and again, then showing it to Lu Xingwen. "Before I presented, this never happened. After presenting as an Omega, my skin changed too. Isn't it fun?"
They shared everything with each other—from small things like what they liked to eat, to big things like where they'd been when apart.
When they were young, neither had parental affection. They only had each other, giving all their feelings to one another, treating the other as their sole emotional anchor. Sharing was an utterly ordinary thing.
"Yeah, very fun." Lu Xingwen glanced at it only once before looking away.
It did look easy to bully, and fun too. If he could properly ravage it, dyeing every inch of that body a rosy hue, it would surely have a unique charm.
Lu Xingwen's eyes grew darker and darker, uncontainable desire spilling out.
