    Chapter 231 - I Can't Live Without You

Feng Xiyao spent her days with Yuguan, constantly parading in front of Mo Cangyan.

He couldn't argue with Feng Xiyao and was reluctant to scold her, so he could only watch them spending time together every day.

"Brother, how long do you plan on dragging me out to drink?" asked Mo Lingyun. He had a wife and child, but he was constantly being pulled away for drinking sessions, leaving him no time for his family.

Mo Cangyan rolled his eyes. "Is it such a burden to accompany me for a drink?"

Mo Lingyun was speechless. "Tell me, how long has it been since I properly spent time with Zhenzhu and Luo'er because of you?"

Drinking until the late hours of the night, by the time he returned, they would already be asleep. He didn't have the heart to wake them up.

    "..."

Mo Cangyan scoffed, then drained the wine in his bowl in one swift motion.

Seeing how pitiful he was, Mo Lingyun decided to offer some advice.

"Your Highness, why don't you try being softer and more gentle with Empress? Women fall for that kind of approach. I used it on Consort Yu, after all."

"Back when things were so unpleasant between us, we almost divorced. But I stubbornly clung on, and eventually, with the birth of Pearl, she forgave me!"

Hearing this, Mo Cangyan pondered carefully. It seemed they had indeed followed this path.

Frowning, he asked, "I'm the emperor. Wouldn't that make me look weak?"

Mo Lingyun replied, "Your Highness, you should consider for yourself: is your pride more important, or Empress?"

"After all, no one else will know if you're being wimpy."

    ...

Yuguan finished tidying up Feng Xiyao's room. Exiting, he collided head-on with the searching Mo Cangyan.

Upon seeing him, Mo Cangyan's expression turned grim.

Yuguan bowed to him, "Miss Yao is not in her room. Young Master Mo may go and check in the backyard."

    "Ah Yao?"

Mo Cangyan reached out and grabbed Yuguan's collar, his voice laced with anger.

"What are you? Do you think you can call her Ah Yao?"

Yuguan was aware that they were a couple. Despite disliking this man before him, he still spoke gently.

"Why can't I? She doesn't mind it herself!"

Mo Cangyan's gaze turned fierce, "Shut up! You're not allowed to address her like that from now on, or I'll make sure you don't see another day!"

He had long wanted to kill this man, but had held back repeatedly for Feng Xiyao's sake.

"Why can't I call her that? Are you being too domineering, Young Master?"

"There must be a reason why Yao doesn't like you," someone whispered with a hint of malice in their voice.

Mo Cangyan's eyes flickered with a murderous intent. "What do you mean she doesn't like me? Her heart belongs to me! Don't provoke your own death!"

Yuguan caught sight of the approaching figure out of the corner of his eye and spoke just loud enough for the two of them to hear.

"You're right. Yao told me herself how much she despises you!"

    "Are you looking for trouble?!"

Mo Cangyan clenched his fists, then released his kick, sending Yuguan stumbling backward, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

"Feng Xiyao, what are you doing?!" she cried, rushing over to see Yuguan, who was now coughing up blood.

Infuriated, she shoved Mo Cangyan forcefully.

"How could you treat Yuguan like this just because he upset you?!"

Yuguan struggled to his feet and held onto her.

"Yao, I'm fine. Don't blame Mister Mo," he pleaded.

How could Mo Cangyan not know that Yuguan's actions were deliberate? But he couldn't swallow his anger.

"He provoked me, and I want to kill him right now," he seethed.

Spotting the murderous intent in his eyes, Feng Xiyao rushed between them, afraid he might actually harm Yuguan.

"I won't allow it," she declared firmly.

Mo Cangyan's face turned ashen. "Can't you see? He's just a pretty boy, pretending to be weak in front of you."

Feng Xiyao countered, "Now you're talking. But why didn't you see through this tactic when Song Qianxue used it on you before?"

"Don't tell me you were bewitched by her. You clearly have feelings for her, and your heart wavered."

Mo Cangyan frowned. "I don't. I swear it."

No longer desiring to engage with him, Feng Xiyao huffed coldly.

"Feng Xiyao, let’s go. Don’t bother with him."

Feng Xiyao lifted her foot and walked away.

Yuguan followed her, a hint of victorious smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as they passed Mo Cangyan.

    "..."

Watching the two depart, Mo Cangyan was furious enough to kill. He punched a flower pot in anger, shattering it into pieces.

After witnessing the spectacle with Little Pearl in his arms, Mo Lingyun approached with a shake of his head.

"I told you that Imperial Sister falls for this kind of thing. Look at Yuguan – he just had to act a bit vulnerable, and now she doesn't even want to hear your side of the story."

Mo Cangyan glared at him coldly but remained silent.

Mo Lingyun kissed Little Pearl's plump cheeks affectionately.

"You, you should learn from Yuguan. I've already told you before, it's all up to your willingness."

With a giggle that curved her eyes into crescents, Little Pearl clapped her hands, not quite understanding what her father meant.

Mo Lingyun wiped the saliva from her lips, "Your uncle is just stubborn and suffers for his pride. Let's ignore him and go find your mother!"

Saying this, he carried his daughter and turned to leave.

Watching Little Pearl in Mo Lingyun's arms, Mo Cangyan couldn't help but feel envious. He also wished that he and Feng Xiyao could have a child soon.

    ...

"Sister-in-law, Brother Emperor is drunk, you should go check on him."

Upon hearing Mo Lingyun's voice, Feng Xiyao pushed open the door and went out.

Before she could fully exit the room, Mo Cangyan stumbled over, heavily under the influence of alcohol.

She swiftly caught him, her brow furrowing at the strong scent of alcohol on him.

"What's wrong with him? Why did he drink so much?"

Mo Lingyun replied, "He saw you with Yuguan and felt upset, so he went to drink. Luckily, I found him in time; otherwise, he might have drunk himself to death."

"Alright, I still need to be with Little Pearl. Big Brother is left in your care, Sister-in-law!" With that, Mo Lingyun dashed away, leaving Feng Xiyao no chance to decline.

    "Ao Yao!"

With a slightly flushed face, Mo Cangyan buried his head in her neck, his tone both pitiful and aggrieved. "Ao Yao, you're truly the only one in my heart. Please don't ignore me."

    "Hmph!"

Feng Xiyao wasn't sure what was going on in her heart, but she didn't want to forgive Mo Cangyan so easily. It just felt unfair to let him off so readily.

"Yao, you can hit me or scold me, but please don't ignore me or leave me. I can't live without you!"

    "..."

Feng Xiyao was stunned. This man was actually pleading. Mo Cangyan was begging her.

Considering his stubborn and proud nature, it was unexpected that he would ever have to beg.

After a moment's thought, she muttered, "I'm still feeling upset, so I'm not ready to forgive you just yet."

Hearing this, Mo Cangyan's eyes flickered. Not ready meant there was still a chance for forgiveness, just not at this moment.

Determined, he continued, "Then how can I earn your forgiveness, Yao? I promise I'll change."

Perceiving that the man on top of her seemed off, Feng Xiyao furrowed her brow.

    "Aren't you drunk?"

Mo Cangyan held his head. "I drank too much, it hurts. Please don't leave me, Yao."

    "..."

Seeing his obvious distress, Feng Xiyao gently helped him onto the bed.

"You shouldn't have drunk if you can't handle it. You had to drink so much, making everyone worry."

Upon hearing this, Mo Cangyan felt a surge of joy. He held her hand tightly against his chest.

"Yao, I know I was in the wrong before. Can you give me another chance? I promise I won't make you angry anymore. I'll love you with all my heart..."

Looking into his eyes filled with hope and his earnest gaze, Feng Xiyao's resolve softened.

After all the fuss they'd made, she didn't even know who to be angry at anymore.

She leaned over him, propping her chin up as she gave a slight smile.

    "We'll see how you behave!"
