    Chapter 165

His movements were too swift; Xu Yuqing didn't have time to react and stared at him in a daze. After a moment, she blushed and hurriedly pushed him away.

"Go over there! A military doctor will be making rounds soon!"

She was extremely nervous, but Xie Junli, with his thick skin, didn't care at all. With a stern face, he pulled her close and covered them both with the blanket. "Comrade Xu, we're married now. This isn't a cornfield."

His attitude infuriated Xu Yuqing. Regardless of whether they were married or not, she didn't want to embarrass herself in such a formal place.

Angrily, she pinched his face, distorting his normally stern features. However, Xie Junli didn't care at all, keeping his eyes closed even as his face turned red without a single wrinkle on his brow.

Xu Yuqing was exasperated. She couldn't push him away no matter how hard she tried. In the end, she gave up resisting and let him hold her, knowing that everyone in the Military District was familiar with him.

If anyone was going to be embarrassed, it would be him, not her.

Having convinced herself, Xu Yuqing looked at the man who seemed to be asleep and felt a pang of concern. She stopped fussing and closed her eyes, falling asleep beside him.

Xu Yuqing hadn't slept well last night, so she fell asleep quickly. The faint sound of her light snoring woke Xie Junli, who sat up.

The hospital bed was small, barely enough for two people. Xie Junli had been lying partly off the bed to allow her to sleep comfortably.

He carefully covered her with the blanket and, after watching her exhausted face, got out of bed and lay down on another bed nearby.

As he lay down, he sighed in relief, placing his hand on his forehead.

He was still dizzy, but he had been holding back to avoid worrying her.

Finally able to rest, he watched her peaceful sleeping face and closed his eyes. He knew no one would come in since the check-up had just finished.

Thinking about her blushing face, Xie Junli's lips curved into a smile.

Both of them finally had a good sleep. Xie Junli woke up first. After these two sleeps, he had regained much of his energy, though his slightly pale complexion still showed signs of illness.

It was already lunchtime, but Xie Junli had no money on him and could only take some from his wife.

However, seeing her sleep so soundly, Colonel Xie was lost in thought.

On one hand, his stomach growled with hunger; on the other, he didn't want to wake her.

After a moment's consideration, he took a water bottle and drank it all in one go, filling his empty stomach somewhat.

But he still needed to refill the bottle. Putting on his shoes, he slowly walked to the water room.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the compound, a panicked group of two adults and a child arrived. Yu Wenyao anxiously grabbed a passing doctor in a white coat. "Which ward is Xie Junli in?"

Xie Junli? Dr. Zhou, who happened to be caught, was helpless. He gently pried Yu Wenyao's hand off and, considering the urgency, didn't mind. "Over there."

    He said indifferently.

Clearly, his attitude towards Yu Wenyao wasn't very friendly.

Yan Lan, carrying Yu Song, walked over. The little boy had fallen on the way and was now lying quietly. Yan Lan adjusted him and apologized to Dr. Zhou. "Sorry, Doctor. My husband is just worried."

Dr. Zhou glanced at Yan Lan indifferently and nodded. "No problem."

With that, he left. Yan Lan sighed in relief and lightly slapped Yu Wenyao, who was looking around for the right room. "Next time, be nicer to the doctors!"

Yu Wenyao nodded absentmindedly, not sure if he heard. Pulling Yan Lan, he headed to the left.

With so many rooms along the corridor, each door closed, Yu Wenyao couldn't find the right one. Just as he was about to ask someone, he turned and saw the person he was looking for.

"Old Xie! How are you?" He exclaimed, rushing over to inspect him from head to toe. "Hmm, seems fine?"

Unconvinced, he started checking again, even trying to lift his clothes.

Xie Junli ignored him and kicked him away with the water bottle in hand.

Yan Lan was also concerned but felt relieved seeing him standing there. "Where's Yuqing?"

    Xie Junli: "She's sleeping inside."

Yan Lan nodded, understanding the shock Yuqing must have experienced last night. "Are you okay? Our neighbor said you were seriously ill."

As she spoke, Yu Song in her arms struggled to get down. Yan Lan, pregnant and lacking strength, quickly let him down, worried about any accidents.

Unexpectedly, the little boy ran straight to Xie Junli, tears still visible under his round eyes. "Uncle Xie, are you okay?"

Xie Junli looked down at the little one, noticing the swelling on his head. He picked him up. "I'm fine. What happened to your head?"

Yu Song touched his head, which didn't hurt anymore, and shook his head. "I fell myself. It's okay. I'm a big boy."

Everyone laughed at his words. Xie Junli smiled and nodded, leading them inside.

"Hold on, since you're here, go buy some food."

Xie Junli instructed Yu Wenyao bluntly.

Just as Yu Wenyao was about to enter, he was assigned a task and felt disgruntled. Before he could protest, Yan Lan glared at him.

Fine, he was the lowest-ranking here.

Turning to buy food, Yan Lan and Xie Junli entered the room.

Xu Yuqing was still sleeping, but she seemed about to wake up. Yan Lan, being so familiar with her, sat down without hesitation.

"What happened last night?" She asked curiously, glancing between Xu Yuqing and Xie Junli.

How come the sick one looks more energetic than the healthy ones?

Xie Junli glanced at Xu Yuqing and whispered to Yan Lan, "My problem, I caught a chill seeking comfort in coolness."

It was her first time encountering this, so she got scared.

Thinking of Xu Yuqing's panicked appearance last night, Xie Junli still felt a knot in his heart. Yan Lan, with her sharp eyes, noticed it and smiled helplessly.

"You two newlyweds have been married for two years, yet you act like newlyweds."

    Always shy around each other.

Perhaps because he spoke too loudly, Xu Yuqing made a sound from the bed, showing signs of waking up. Yu Song, who had been staying in Xie Junli's arms, had been watching Xu Yuqing's direction and became excited when he saw her move: "Aunt is awake."

"Mm." Xie Junli put him down, took the water flask filled with warm water, and walked to her bedside. Xu Yuqing opened her eyes groggily and saw a green water flask.

Though just awakened, she remembered they were in the hospital, and Xie Junli's action of feeding her water wasn't new to her. She skillfully took it and took a sip.

"I don't want to drink anymore." Xie Junli frowned when he saw her take only one sip, but Xu Yuqing, feeling weak and empty, couldn't drink more.

Seeing her insistence, Xie Junli had no choice but to cap the flask. "The food will be here soon."

"Food? Did you go get it?" Xu Yuqing followed Xie Junli's movements with her eyes, then suddenly exclaimed, "Sister Yan Lan! When did you come?"

She hurriedly sat up, put on her shoes, and smoothed her messy hair, busy as a bee.

Yan Lan sighed, "Relax, there's no need to rush. It's just us girls."

Ah? That's right, didn't see Brother Yu.

After tidying herself up, Xu Yuqing had to endure not having anything to wash up with. Seeing herself somewhat presentable, she looked at Yan Lan and Yu Song with relief.

"Sister Yan Lan, how did you know?" She had initially planned to keep it a secret.

However, looking at Xie Junli, she realized there was no point in hiding it. His recovery was too impressive; he was already back to normal after being unconscious last night.

She wasn't sure whether to praise his health or the effectiveness of the medicine.

Yan Lan patted her belly, "Mom asked me to invite you all for dinner and told you not to cook these few days. We found your door slightly open, and a female comrade nearby heard the commotion and came to tell us."

Hearing that, we rushed over immediately.

"What happened last night? Old Xie didn't explain clearly, and you look fine now."

Hearing Yan Lan's words, Xu Yuqing sighed, still confused. "Last night, I found him lying in the small room, feverish and unable to stand. I panicked and forgot to lock the door when I left."

Thinking about it, she felt careless, considering there was a lot of money at home.

Fortunately, it was the Military District, where people's integrity provided some assurance.

Yan Lan took a deep breath, imagining the situation that had caused Yuqing such panic.

"Don't worry, it's all better now. You can go home this afternoon—"

    Just then, Yu Wenyao entered.

He carried two lunch boxes. "I borrowed these since I didn't go back for ours. Make do with them."

Luckily, the lunch boxes were large and contained enough food. Though not enough to satisfy everyone, it was enough to fill their stomachs.

Corn cakes, sweet potatoes, stir-fried wild vegetables, and potato slices with meat—a decent meal. Xu Yuqing held a corn cake in her hand, taking small bites.

Xie Junli watched her, still visibly shaken, and tenderly stroked her head.

"It's okay, we'll be home soon."

"Mm." Xu Yuqing responded drowsily, relieved to see him completely fine. However, after eating, she still insisted on taking him to see Doctor Zhou.

In the small room, several tables were set up. Xu Yuqing immediately spotted Doctor Zhou sitting at the back, not because of any other reason but because he was handsome.

    -

Doctor Zhou stood out among the plain military doctors, wearing a white coat, with thick black hair and gold-rimmed glasses. Xu Yuqing approached him, "Sorry, Doctor Zhou, I wanted to ask if we can be discharged. Is he okay now?"

Doctor Zhou looked up, raising an eyebrow at the obviously reluctant Xie Junli, knowing he was aware of his identity. He smiled, "Yes, your husband is in good health. No need to worry. Next time, if something similar happens, use alcohol to lower his temperature. Don't panic."

He spoke gently, his eyes soft.

Xie Junli's expression grew colder by the second. If not for his restraint, Xu Yuqing would have been dragged away from him immediately.

Xu Yuqing, oblivious to the silent tension between them, nodded happily. "Alright, thank you. We'll be going now."

    "No problem."

After bidding farewell to Doctor Zhou, Xu Yuqing finally received confirmation and quickly led Xie Junli out to pack their things.

There wasn't much to pack, just a water flask and a shoulder bag she had kept on her.

    "Let's go home!"
