Chapter 124: Happy
by 燕三月Chapter 124: Happy
After finishing the meal and seeing off the guests, Yan Guang began to ask Gao Yue about her thoughts.
Blushing, Gao Yue asked about Xiao Fang first. She knew the names of all six men but wasn’t sure about their positions yet.
"Xiao Fang is pretty great. He drives a jeep in the military. Nowadays, it’s the skilled guys who really stand out. In the future, you…"
Gao Yue quickly cut him off, "Brother-in-law, I’m just asking." Her blush faded slightly, and she was worried that if he kept talking, it would seem like she was interested in the driver.
Just a driver?
Gao Yue wasn’t even considering him.
"Anyway…"
Gao Yue then asked about someone else she thought might be a better match.
But his response didn’t impress her.
Her blush faded even more.
By the time she asked about the third person, Yan Guang realized his wife hadn’t told her about their positions while they were in the kitchen.
He had thought Gao Yue was different when she asked about Xiao Fang, but it seemed she, like her cousin, was also looking for someone with a higher rank.
Without waiting for her to ask, he went ahead and introduced the rest of the men.
By the time Yan Guang finished, all the color had drained from Gao Yue’s face.
Yan Guang asked her point-blank, "If you like any of them, I’ll let them know. You two can talk more later."
Gao Yue kept her head down, her delicate fingers twisted together nervously.
Yan Guang asked, "None of them caught your eye?"
Gao Yue kept her head down.
Just as Yu Huixin was about to speak, she felt a wave of nausea and rushed outside, covering her mouth. She vomited into the corner, spilling the contents of her lunch.
Yan Guang was alarmed and rushed after her, gently patting her back. "What’s wrong? Did you eat something that didn’t agree with you?"
Gao Yue was also shocked. She had prepared the lunch. "We should take her to the hospital."
"We need to get her to the hospital. Gao Yue, bring a cup of water for your cousin to rinse her mouth, and grab a jacket for her to wear."
Gao Yue quickly went inside to get the water and then grabbed a jacket.
She then accompanied them to the hospital.
After checking her pulse, the doctor smiled and said, "Congratulations, you’re pregnant."
Yu Huixin touched her stomach in disbelief. Yan Guang, beaming with excitement, shook the doctor’s hand and exclaimed, "Thank you, thank you!"
The doctor blinked, taken aback.
The doctor raised an eyebrow. "Who’s celebrating with you?"
The soon-to-be dad was practically beside himself with joy!
Yan Guang was genuinely overjoyed. For years, Yu Huixin hadn’t wanted more children, so he hadn’t pressured her. They had been using contraception on and off, and he had assumed Xiao Wen would be their only child. But now, they were expecting again!
After all, what man doesn’t dream of having more kids and a bigger family?
Over the years, his parents back home and his army buddies had constantly urged him to have more kids. He couldn’t exactly tell them that Yu Huixin didn’t want more kids, so he just kept saying one child was enough. After hearing it so many times, his parents started to wonder if there was something wrong with his health.
"Honey, we’re having another baby."
Gao Yue smiled and said, “Congrats, Brother-in-law! Congrats, Cousin!”
Yu Huixin gently placed her hand on her belly, not saying a word.
Yan Guang’s face fell. “You’re not thinking of…?”
Yu Huixin shot him a look. “Don’t jump to conclusions. We’re keeping this baby.”
Yan Guang breathed a sigh of relief. He was really afraid she would say she didn’t want it.
With his wife pregnant, Yan Guang was so thrilled that he brought over some liquor to celebrate with Gu Heng that very night.
A small table was set up in the yard, and Su Zhaozhao brought out a plate of salted peanuts for them to snack on while they drank.
It had been a while since Yan Guang last came over to drink with Gu Heng, especially after Yu Huixin had caused trouble for Su Zhaozhao behind her back.
After a few drinks, Yan Guang opened up. “This time, my wife’s been pretty sick—she threw up a few times this afternoon. It’s different from when she was pregnant with Xiao Wen. I think it might be a girl. I’d love to have a daughter. It would be perfect to have both a son and a daughter.”
Then he turned to Gu Heng. “When are you two planning to have another one? You should get on it! It’s better to have more kids while you’re still young.”
Now that his wife was pregnant, he was suddenly all about encouraging others to have more kids too.
Gu Heng tossed a peanut into his mouth. “Mind your own business.”
Yan Guang chuckled. “I’m planning to bring my mom over. After all these years, she and my dad have never visited us, and we rarely go back. It just so happens that with my wife’s pregnancy, I can have my mom come over to take care of her.”
Gu Heng glanced at him without saying anything.
Late at night, after tidying up, Gu Heng climbed back into bed. Su Zhaozhao, as usual, snuggled up to him, and he instinctively wrapped his arm around her.
“…Has your period been late?”
They’d been intimate almost every night since they got together. Even though Gu Heng wasn’t an expert on women’s health, he could tell something was off.
They’ve always used protection, so it probably isn’t a pregnancy.
Su Zhaozhao, half-asleep, mumbled, “What?”
Then she realized and nodded against his chest. “It’s always been irregular. Probably because I’m a bit weak. It should come after I rest up a bit.”
This was the first time she’d ever talked about her period with a man. Even though they’d shared a bed many times, it was still awkward.
Gu Heng tightened his arm around her. “You should see a doctor.”
Su Zhaozhao didn’t want to go. “The doctor already said my body is just weak and needs time to recover. After a year or so, it should be fine. I know my body. There’s nothing else wrong.”
Gu Heng didn’t push further, and they went to sleep.
The next day, not long after arriving at the office, Su Zhaozhao found a basket of eggs sitting on her desk.
"Xiao Su, thanks so much. If it weren't for you, my mom wouldn't have made it."
Su Zhaozhao was taken aback. Anyone would be caught off guard by someone showing up early in the morning with a basket of eggs and saying thanks.
It wasn’t just her who was confused—others were equally baffled.
"What do you mean, 'if not for her, my mom would be gone?'" someone echoed her confusion.
Yang Mei quickly explained what happened. By that point, the whole village had heard about how her mom had been brought back to life.
"If I hadn’t taken the training seriously and put in the effort, I wouldn’t have been able to save my mom."
Yang Mei felt a little sheepish admitting that she’d studied so hard because she really wanted to win a thermos as a prize.
Everyone finally got it—and they were all amazed. What a crazy coincidence!
"Seriously, CPR brought her back?" A few people still seemed skeptical.
Yang Mei nodded. "Yeah, exactly! She wasn’t breathing, and everyone thought the worst. But I remembered the CPR technique Xiao Su taught us, and I acted fast. That’s what saved her. When we got to the hospital, the doctors said it was lucky we did the CPR right away—if we hadn’t, it would’ve been too late."
She thanked Su Zhaozhao again. "Xiao Su, our family doesn’t have much, but we’re really grateful. I know you don’t need the eggs, but this is just a small way for me to show my appreciation. Please, take them."
It made Su Zhaozhao really proud to see one of her students save someone right after the training. It proved that her class had made a real difference. She gently refused. "Please take the eggs back and give them to your mom to help her recover. She needs them more than I do."
