Chapter 13
byChapter 13
Moxi Audria, the father of Kaiser.
He is also a renowned commander, revered and respected throughout the empire. During the early years of the Zerg wars, he repeatedly led the army to victory, achieving great military feats and being hailed as "the empire's most unassailable shield."
However, it seems the father-son relationship isn't great, otherwise Kaiser wouldn't have such a hostile expression upon seeing him.
Yi Ye isn't interested in the Audria family's secrets and avoids delving deeper. No matter how formidable Commander Moxi is, it's irrelevant to Yi Ye's mission, so he glanced casually a few times before turning back to continue training.
But Kaiser stood frozen, his eyes blood-red, as if lost in another world.
Only when his terminal screen flickered did he snap out of it.
"...I'm heading out. Train on your own." Whatever that message said, Kaiser left in a hurry after dropping those words.
He soon appeared downstairs, heading for the busiest area, and vanished into a building.
After parting with El, Yi Ye trained solo for a bit before heading back to his dorm. The medicine Bai Chuan provided worked like magic; in under a day, his ankle's swelling and redness had mostly faded, and it would heal completely in two more days.
Pleased, he rose, grabbed his clothes, and headed for the shower.
After a twenty-minute shower, he found Kaiser still absent, so he lay down, ready to sleep.
The climate control was set a bit too cold, and the room was dim. Yi Ye wrapped the blanket tightly, twisting like a caterpillar until he was a human burrito. Blocking out the cold, he sighed contentedly, his puffed cheeks nuzzling the soft pillow as sleep crept in.
Half-asleep, he heard the door open.
Yi Ye's eyelids felt like sandbags, too heavy to open. He turned to the wall, buried his ears in the blanket, curled up, and drifted back to sleep.
Soon, a muffled groan jolted him awake.
The sound wasn't loud, but its suppressed pain instantly woke Yi Ye. As he regained consciousness, the metallic tang of blood hit him.
He tossed the blanket aside and rose, spotting a tall figure curled up on the opposite bed in the dark.
"...Kaiser?"
Kaiser didn't respond. Yi Ye got out of bed and walked over. As he got closer, the smell of blood became even stronger, and he noticed spots of bloodstains on the floor from the door to the bedside. He wanted to turn on the light to investigate, but his hand was suddenly grabbed with great force. He saw those eyes hidden in the darkness, flickering with a faint light.
"Don't turn it on," Kaiser's voice was hoarse.
Yi Ye sighed, sitting on the bed's edge, soothing him like a child: "Fine, no light. How bad is it? Will you die?"
"...No."
"If you're not dying," Yi Ye grinned, "I'm going back to sleep."
With that, he really was about to return to his blanket. Kaiser was probably rendered speechless by his reaction, and after a few seconds, he spoke in a muffled voice: "Aren't you going to ask?"
Yi Ye stopped in his tracks, turned back, and smiled with curved eyes: "If I ask, will you tell me?"
"..."
Since he wasn't willing to talk, Yi Ye didn't press further. He fumbled in the dark to his desk, picked up a lamp, and placed it by the bedside: "This lamp has really poor lighting, like a child's toy. Can I turn this on?"
"No—"
Before Kaiser could finish, with a "click," warm yellow light instantly filled the space between them. In the boundless night, this lamp seemed exceptionally small and fragile, but it allowed Yi Ye to see Kaiser's entire appearance clearly.
There were no wounds on his face, but the back of his uniform was almost soaked with blood, dripping wet, and even the dark bedsheets were stained with patches of dark red, giving a clear picture of how severe the injuries must have been.
Yi Ye: "..."
Kaiser's gaze scanned his face. Although he was the one being observed for injuries, he was instead more intently observing Yi Ye's expression.
It wasn’t sympathy or mockery, just a neutral, almost clinical observation of his condition, as if... he was simply assessing the injuries.
He suddenly didn't understand: "Shouldn’t you be taking pleasure in my misery now that I’m in this state?"
"Seeing someone else drenched in blood isn’t something to be happy about," Yi Ye pointed to the whip marks on his hand. "If you don’t want others to find out, you probably need to bandage that."
Kaiser followed the direction of his finger and brushed it off casually: "No need, it’ll be fine by morning."
Oh right, Yi Ye had forgotten Kaiser had a 3S constitution, meaning his wounds healed at an unnaturally fast rate. But he still got up and fetched a first aid kit from his cabinet. He could have left Kaiser alone, but with the room reeking of blood, he wouldn’t sleep well tonight.
"Young Master, please lift your hand."
Kaiser frowned, the words of refusal floating in his throat, but he couldn’t help but extend his hand. Yi Ye’s hands were firm, lacking any gentleness, as if he were rubbing salt—or chili water—into the wound. Even Kaiser, who usually had a high pain tolerance, let out a few groans before snapping, "Can’t you be a little gentler?"
He suspected this guy was deliberately taking the opportunity to get back at him for their past training sessions.
Yi Ye feigned apology, "Sorry, sorry, I’m no Omega when it comes to being gentle. Should I head to the S sector and get you a sweet, caring Omega?"
"...I just asked you to be gentler, why the attitude?"
"None at all."
Yi Ye widened his eyes innocently, and the strength in his hands lightened a bit.
Once the visible wounds were bandaged, Yi Ye left the rest alone. He dutifully gathered the blood-soaked bedding, tossed it into the bathroom, and grabbed a fresh set from the cabinet. As he was making the bed, he suddenly remembered the first day he moved into the dorm room. His expression darkened. "Speaking of which, Young Master, didn’t you have someone bully me back then?"
"...What are you talking about?" He frowned.
"On the first day, someone dumped stinky water and trash all over my bed." Seeing Kaiser’s confused expression, Yi Ye sensed something wasn’t right. "Wasn’t it you who ordered it?"
"Why would I ruin my own living space? I’d have to sleep here too, you know."
Wait, so it wasn’t him after all?!
"But I also saw a senior cleaning your room..." Could it have been that senior? He had even kindly felt sorry for him!
Kaiser clicked his tongue, giving him a look that screamed "I knew you were clueless," and leaned against the bed, watching him. "Do you have any idea how many people at this academy would kill to be my roommate? You, a country bumpkin, took the spot, and they just used some small tricks to bully you, which is saying something."
"It’s just a roommate, I can give it up to them," Yi Ye said indignantly.
"Give it up?" Kaiser inexplicably felt a bit displeased. "Before the semester even started, the forum was auctioning off my roommate spot. You know how much it went for? Three million star coins, and you’re talking about giving it up?"
"..." How much?
Yi Ye was shocked. Three million! What couldn’t you do with that, and yet you want to be this Young Master’s slave, these damn capitalists!
"Do you still want to give it up now?"
Although it was equivalent to earning three million, Yi Ye felt a deep sense of "easy come, easy go," and closed his eyes: "Yes, yes, thank fate for making this country bumpkin the Young Master’s roommate, otherwise you would never remember someone like me in your lifetime."
"..."
Not hearing a response, Yi Ye turned back and saw Kaiser’s somewhat complicated expression in the dim light.
Probably thinking that he was being sarcastic again, but he was actually right. From the perspective of the original plot, the protagonist was completely infatuated with Bai Chuan, and even when playing games, he couldn't remember the names of a few minor characters. That Kaiser could remember him now was quite an achievement.
But to Kaiser's ears, the meaning changed a bit.
Thinking carefully, he had tormented him during training, never gave him a good look, and had ordered him around several times. Yi Ye should hate him to death. Yet, not only did he stay up late to take care of him, but he also bandaged his wounds and made his bed. Where on earth do you find someone so kind-hearted?
Moreover, his clothes were so disheveled, completely unguarded against an Alpha like him, loosely draped over his body, with a nice waist, fair skin, and so sincerely thanking fate.
Could it be... he likes me?
Kaiser suddenly realized, then pursed his lips.
He had been in the spotlight since childhood, accustomed to the admiration and envy of others. Even before he was of age, countless families had sent Omegas to win his favor, some with top-tier looks, but he didn't fancy any of them.
If those people didn't make the cut, how could Yi Ye?
He had to warn him, to nip this unrealistic fantasy in the bud.
"Yi—"
"All set!" Yi Ye stretched wearily, "Go to sleep, Young Master, we have class at seven tomorrow morning."
All his words were stuck in his throat.
Kaiser stared at Yi Ye, who had crawled back into his bed, feeling helpless, like he had punched cotton before even throwing a punch, and rubbed his temples.
Forget it, we'll talk after the assessment!
Then he could switch dorms and cut off contact with him.
...
A month flew by.
During this time, Yi Ye was constantly tormented by Kaiser, waking up to training, then classes, suffering under the instructors, more training, and returning to the dorm at night to be tormented by Kaiser again, barely getting any sleep after midnight.
But Kaiser's brutal training did have some effect. One day, lifting his shirt to look in the mirror, he was surprised to find his abs had grown from six to eight, though they weren't very impressive, just a thin layer, not reaching the effect of a muscular hunk.
Regretfully touching his belly, Yi Ye quickly changed into his uniform and hurried to the training ground. As soon as he entered, he saw Instructor Clark and Instructor Alva.
The first assessment was basic combat, using a single-elimination tournament system. The school would first group students based on their physical fitness and talent levels provided at enrollment. Like Kaiser and Bush Meihua, they were directly classified as seed players and wouldn't appear in the first few rounds.
Although it was a team event, the assessment mainly focused on 1v1 duels. This meant that if one ranked too low in this assessment, the next two wouldn't matter much, as even a perfect score might not catch up with others.
So when it was Yi Ye's turn to step onto the field, he could see Kaiser from afar, glaring at him with a look that said, "If you dare lose, I'll kill you."
He sighed wistfully and clapped his hands.
Yi Ye had calculated in advance. Although Bai Chuan was an Omega, his combat basics were decent, likely ranking in the upper middle. As for Bush Meihua, he hadn't met him yet, but according to El, the Meihua family had never dropped out of the top five in the entrance assessments, especially Bush Meihua, who was a particularly celebrated genius in recent years.
So he had to ensure Bai Chuan took first place, while not letting Kaiser rank too low, keeping his own rank in the middle.
Winning three rounds should be enough.
Under Kaiser's intense gaze, Yi Ye stepped onto the field and looked up to see a familiar face.
He squinted and waved, "Isn't this the Alpha whose teeth I knocked out the other day? What a coincidence, did your front teeth grow back?"
"Yiye Langley, this time I'm going to beat you to death!" The Alpha roared with a twisted face, his mouth revealing a gap where his front teeth were missing.
"You should fix that gapped tooth of yours first. Is getting a tooth fixed still such a rip-off, even in the interstellar world?"
The Alpha's face turned red with anger, and the moment the instructor announced the start, he lunged at him like a leopard!
However, three minutes later—
The Alpha lay sprawled on the ground like a dead fish, his desperate gaze fixed on another front tooth that had fallen a few meters away. He hadn't even reached the prime of an Alpha's strength, yet he had already tragically lost two front teeth.
Silence spread through the venue, and after a few seconds, the tall Alpha covered his face, his wailing cries echoing high into the air.
It was truly a scene enough to make anyone cry and break their heart.
Ino hummed a tune, casually strolling off the field. Spotting Bai Chuan in the audience seats, he was about to head over when Kaiser blocked his path.
"Not bad, I guess."
"Thank you for the praise, Young Master," Ino said, attempting to sidestep him. But unexpectedly, Kaiser stepped to the side and blocked him again, asking, "What's wrong?"
"What's your plan for the next round?"
Ino's heart skipped a beat. Did this Young Master figure out he was holding back?
Kaiser, seeing his expression, knew he hadn't carefully checked the match schedule. Frustrated, he pulled up a clear image from his terminal and pointed it out to him.
Ino quickly found his name and glanced to the side—
There, in bold letters, it read: *Yiye Langley vs. Bai Chuan Langley.*
