Chapter 25
byChapter 25
In front of so many people, An Nuo had no choice but to yield.
Lu Yunyan strode away first, his retreating figure radiating the smug satisfaction of a successful ploy.
In his mind, An Nuo had transformed into a super mech warrior, lunging from behind to lock Lu Yunyan in a chokehold and pummel him.
But in reality, he remained a meek omega intern, forced to stand up and follow.
As he rose, Lenny whispered to him, "Go get 'em! You're incredibly lucky—make the most of it!"
An Nuo was beyond words, letting out a heavy sigh.
Then he heard Sean utter another "Tch."
An Nuo instinctively glanced at Sean, who still wore an unfriendly expression. But this time, their eyes met, and Sean quickly averted his gaze.
It dawned on An Nuo that, in others' eyes, this might be seen as a golden opportunity to shine—perhaps even Sean had coveted it.
An Nuo felt even more unable to voice his grievances.
Because he knew full well this was no opportunity at all; it was merely Lu Yunyan abusing his authority to torment him.
But no one else knew, especially Sean, who probably thought An Nuo was acting smug after getting a lucky break.
Sean was already difficult to deal with, and now things had gone from bad to worse.
It was all Lu Yunyan’s fault!
He had to beat him up someday!
Clenching his teeth, An Nuo clutched his tablet and followed into the conference room, where about thirty people were already seated.
An Nuo instinctively headed for the farthest corner, only to be stopped by Lu Yunyan: "Intern, sit next to me."
"..."
The seats on either side of Lu Yunyan were indeed empty.
Was it really that no one was sitting there?
More like no one dared to.
If An Nuo sat there, he’d instantly become the focal point of everyone's attention.
"Intern, didn’t you hear me?"
"..."
An Nuo had no choice but to endure. He swallowed his anger, silently lowering his head as he walked to the seat beside Lu Yunyan.
"Excuse me, I'll sit here then."
Naturally, all eyes turned toward An Nuo.
It felt a bit strange.
Something seemed off.
But he couldn’t pinpoint what, and everything still fell within acceptable limits.
After all, Lu Yunyan’s attitude toward the intern was rather unremarkable.
"Have you ever taken meeting minutes before?"
"No."
"Do you know how?"
"I haven’t done it, but I’ve seen it done. I can manage."
"Alright, then make sure you do it well. Don’t disappoint me."
"Yes."
Fortunately, in front of so many people, Lu Yunyan didn’t do anything utterly outrageous—this was already pushing the boundaries.
Once the meeting began, it was all business.
The topic of discussion was Starryism’s impending acquisition of Star Trail Studio.
The two parties had always been mutually interested, but they had previously failed to agree on a price. This time, they finally reached an accord and were ready to make an official announcement.
However, an acquisition of this scale wasn’t just about mutual consent—it also required passing anti-monopoly reviews in hundreds of regions across the galaxy, a process that would take at least two to three years and demand immense financial and human resources. It was a colossal undertaking.
The core of the meeting revolved around how to effectively control costs, counter potential competitors, and assign personnel to specific regions.
At first, An Nuo kept pace with the discussion, but gradually it became more challenging. By the end, he couldn’t understand much of the content, completely zoning out.
The meeting lasted two hours. Afterward, Lu Yunyan was swarmed by several people wanting to talk, finally leaving him no time to tease An Nuo.
Looking at the notes he had taken, An Nuo could only imagine how Lu Yunyan would mock them. But he had no choice—he handed the tablet to Lu Yunyan’s secretary and irritably returned to the office first.
Whatever, he thought. Let Lu Yunyan laugh behind his back.
As long as he didn’t have to see it, it was fine.
But An Nuo had been too naive. Twenty minutes later, Lu Yunyan walked back to him, holding the tablet he had used for note-taking.
"Intern, is this the meeting record you made?"
"..."
There were seven people in the secretarial pool, plus the interns, making ten in total.
As soon as Lu Yunyan spoke, everyone could hear him.
"Your notes are... special. Very unique... Never mind, I can't discuss it here. Come to my office and walk me through this, explain what you meant by these notes."
"..."
Lu Yunyan’s tone was far from friendly. Lenny immediately gave An Nuo a sympathetic look, assuming he was being summoned to the office for a scolding.
Fists clenched, An Nuo followed behind Lu Yunyan.
His heart hammered wildly, his blood surged, and he felt his body temperature rising rapidly—a strange, fiery rush of adrenaline.
The moment they entered the office and the door locked, An Nuo snapped. Without another thought, he swung at Lu Yunyan.
"You! Did! That! On! Purpose!"
"You're! Dead! Meat!"
"I'm! Going! To! Lose! It!"
Before he could utter more than a few words, Lu Yunyan had already been punched fifteen times.
"Wait, wait, just calm down."
"I! Am! Very! Calm!"
"I! Won't! Wait!"
"I! Just! Want! To! Pummel! You! To! Death!"
With each word of his reply, An Nuo landed a few more punches on Lu Yunyan.
After their last skirmish, An Nuo had experienced the catharsis of venting his anger on Lu Yunyan, and this time, he was even more direct.
He pummeled Lu Yunyan relentlessly.
"How could you do this to me!"
"We agreed to keep our distance, to keep it a secret! But you singled me out right away!"
"Wait, babe, you really need to wait."
"I won't wait!"
"..."
Lu Yunyan had no choice but to stand there and take it, no longer trying to stop An Nuo. Only after An Nuo had let out enough steam did he point to the side and say, "Actually, I asked you to wait for a reason."
After releasing some of his emotions, An Nuo calmed down a bit. But when he followed Lu Yunyan's pointing finger, he saw something that sent his emotions spiraling again—
Lu Yunyan's Executive Assistant had been standing there the whole time.
"..."
An Nuo's heart plummeted from its peak to the ground, and he wanted to die right there.
He had been too worked up earlier, focused solely on beating up Lu Yunyan, and hadn't noticed his surroundings at all.
Who would have thought that even though the CEO wasn't in the office, his Executive Assistant would be standing inside?
Now the Executive Assistant was just as awkward as he was.
He didn't dare utter a sound, didn't dare move easily, and couldn't even find a place to hide.
Though he was facing both of them, he acted busy, looking everywhere except at them.
An Nuo's heartbeat quickened even more, cold sweat trickled down his temples, and his breathing became ragged.
But Lu Yunyan looked at the Executive Assistant calmly and even smiled. "Let me introduce you, this is my wife."
An Nuo screamed internally.
He wanted to beat Lu Yunyan up again.
He had tried so hard to keep their relationship a secret, but unfortunately, his plan backfired—and it probably even pleased Lu Yunyan.
Glancing at Lu Yunyan out of the corner of his eye and seeing his smile, An Nuo became even more certain: Yep, he definitely enjoyed that.
The Executive Assistant still looked confused.
He knew An Nuo was the new intern and was utterly stunned by their true relationship.
He had only come in to confirm Lu Yunyan's schedule, waited for a moment, and then everything had blown up out of nowhere before his eyes.
Unsure of their intentions regarding the relationship, he didn't dare speak rashly.
Until Lu Yunyan said, "You're lucky—you're the first to know about this."
The Executive Assistant immediately understood.
This wasn't luck at all. If this secret, known only to him, were to leak, he would be as good as dead.
He couldn't care less about what workplace role-play his boss and his wife were playing; he could only focus on saving his own hide and avoiding becoming part of their drama.
The Executive Assistant quickly said, "Not a problem, Mr. Lu. I came in to confirm your schedule, but you weren't here, so I left quickly. I didn't see anyone the entire time."
With that, the Executive Assistant hurriedly left with the documents in hand.
The room fell silent again.
"Alright, now it's really just the two of us. You can keep hitting me."
"..."
An Nuo glared at Lu Yunyan. After what had just happened, he was completely drained, and he no longer had the strength to fight with Lu Yunyan.
Still reeling from the shock, the strength in his limbs had faded, and his body was trembling slightly.
"...Enough, I need to leave too."
He would probably need to lay low for a bit to recover after returning to his seat.
"Wait." Lu Yunyan stopped him. "I brought you something—the glutinous rice balls from that place you said were really delicious. Don't you want to try them?"
"..."
Who could possibly be in the mood for glutinous rice balls at a time like this?
"...Alright, I'll try one."
But since he was already here and had unfortunately been caught by Lu Yunyan's Executive Assistant, if he didn't even get to taste the glutinous rice balls, An Nuo would truly feel like a total loser.
Though they were just ordinary glutinous rice balls, this particular shop made them with the most uniquely delicious flavor.
He'd mentioned it to Lu Yunyan once before, and he hadn't expected Lu Yunyan to remember and even bring some back for him.
An Nuo had eaten very little for breakfast, and during the meeting, he had been tense and focused, not to mention emotionally drained from Lu Yunyan's teasing. His stomach had long since emptied, and now his fingertips were trembling slightly. He suspected he might even have low blood sugar.
"They were freshly made this morning. I bought one of every flavor available."
An Nuo took a step forward, but as soon as he did, his legs felt weak, as if all strength had been drained from them. He couldn't even stand steadily, and his entire body started to fall toward the ground.
"Careful!"
Lu Yunyan was also startled, but fortunately, he reacted quickly, catching An Nuo just in time.
"...What's wrong? Did you lose your footing?"
He effortlessly scooped An Nuo up into his arms, but as his hand brushed against An Nuo's pants, Lu Yunyan sensed something off: "Why do your pants feel damp?"
An Nuo: ?
An Nuo: …………
He hadn't noticed until Lu Yunyan mentioned it, but now An Nuo finally realized what was wrong.
When he followed into the office earlier, there was that sudden surge of heat, then the inexplicable shortness of breath, sweating, body weakness, and the trembling in his fingertips just now…
He thought it was all because Lu Yunyan had agitated him, or that he might be experiencing low blood sugar.
But it turned out to be neither.
These were all symptoms of his heat period.
The heat period that had been absent for so long had suddenly arrived, right at this moment.
Lu Yunyan wasn't stupid either. Feeling further up, he indeed touched a larger damp spot.
It was just that the pants were dark in color, making it hard to see, so no one had spotted it.
Lu Yunyan was also shocked: "...Is this... your heat period presenting?" he asked.
"..."
