Chapter 59: Cheating Operation
byChapter 59: Catching Them in the Act
Yun Fan didn't intentionally mean to irritate Cheng Yu; he genuinely believed that living this way made it easier for him to care for Wen Zhaofu. However, in reality, Wen Zhaofu didn’t require much care from him. Still, being able to spend such long periods together secretly made him quite happy.
The hotel room was already well arranged, but Yun Fan acted just like a butler, fussing over every detail, touching this and that, afraid that Wen Zhaofu might bump into something.
"Xiao Yun, take a break," Wen Zhaofu said softly, looking up from his tablet.
"You're working, sir. If I stop, I’ll just be in the way," Yun Fan replied earnestly.
Wen Zhaofu found Yun Fan adorable again and laughed as he looked at him. He set aside what he was doing, spread his hands, and said, "Is this better? You should rest now."
Yun Fan was also amused by Wen Zhaofu. He sat in the chair opposite him, hugged a cushion, and stretched his legs.
Wen Zhaofu smiled at him again and handed over the tablet, gesturing with his chin. "Take a look at this report—the Singapore project."
"Huh?" Yun Fan took it, puzzled, wondering why he needed to see it.
For the next while, Wen Zhaofu remained silent, letting Yun Fan figure things out on his own. He wasn’t testing Yun Fan; he just had doubts and needed Yun Fan to help verify them.
"My goodness, I’ve never seen such detailed income and expense records," Yun Fan said, looking up at Wen Zhaofu. "Mr. Wen, do you look at tables like this all day? You’ll exhaust yourself."
Wen Zhaofu leaned in, placed his hands on the table, and raised an eyebrow at Yun Fan from across the desk. "Notice anything unusual?"
Yun Fan nodded. "Who has this much free time to list everything out like this for others to see? But other parts are written vaguely, as if trying to hide something."
"Exactly," Wen Zhaofu said, looking at Yun Fan approvingly. "I didn’t notice that. You’ve enlightened me."
"So, Xiao Yun, how about coming to Singapore with me?" Wen Zhaofu asked.
Wow, another trip—who would’ve thought? Yun Fan nodded happily. Accompanying Wen Zhaofu on a business trip sounded fantastic!
But before heading to Singapore, they had to return to Hong Kong. There were some matters at home that needed handling, and Wen Zhaofu couldn’t avoid them. He often found himself stretched thin like this. In the past, it would have tired him out, but now it was different—he had Yun Fan by his side.
With Assistant Yun around, President Wen’s work efficiency improved significantly. To others, he already seemed effortlessly capable, but now, just sitting there, he appeared almost unnaturally efficient.
In Wen Zhaofu’s mind, nothing seemed worth spending too much time discussing. When asked to make a decision, he did so without hesitation.
Even Yun Fan was surprised. Could a boss really be this efficient and energy-saving?
Of course, Wen Zhaofu knew time was precious. He wanted to save as much as possible to spend with Yun Fan. The other three competitors had ample time with Yun Fan—how could he not want the same? He wanted even more.
Yun Fan seemed satisfied with this too. He always wore a faint smile, and his eyes lit up when he looked at Wen Zhaofu. No matter what Wen Zhaofu said, Yun Fan always responded.
Naturally, Wen Zhaofu treated Yun Fan the same way.
As the weather grew warmer, they often went out for walks in the evenings, strolling along the seaside boardwalk in less crowded areas, chatting as they went.
Yun Fan loved this kind of life. He could let go of other worries and simply enjoy the gentle breeze brushing against him.
After three more days like this, Yun Fan even felt reluctant to return to Hong Kong. Wen Zhaofu noticed this attachment, and the usually decisive man began wondering if he could find an excuse to stay longer.
While organizing his things in his room, Yun Fan suddenly let out a yelp. Wen Zhaofu immediately set down the documents in his hand, sat up straight, and was about to speak when Yun Fan bounded over.
"Sir, I’ve lost your Home Return Permit," Yun Fan said, blinking.
Unable to help himself, Wen Zhaofu laughed first. Why did Yun Fan sound so cheerful? And why did he himself feel a bit pleased too?
"It’s fine. We can get it reissued. No big deal," Wen Zhaofu said, barely suppressing a smile. "Let me make a call to see how to do it."
Soon after, the old butler called to say that the little gardener had found Wen Zhaofu’s Home Return Permit in the flower bushes. Initially, he thought Yun Fan had been careless, but after checking the surveillance footage, he discovered it was actually Wen Haochen’s Husky!
The Husky had not only stolen the document but also chewed it up. The old butler was furious, but he couldn’t hit the dog or its owner, leaving him feeling frustrated.
*
Unable to return to Hong Kong for the time being, Wen Zhaofu decided to take Yun Fan to Singapore first to handle the most urgent matters.
He didn’t bring anyone else, even keeping their itinerary secret. He had Yun Fan book a red-eye flight, and they slipped away quietly.
On the plane, Yun Fan watched Wen Zhaofu resting with his eyes closed and again felt as if they were sneaking around together.
Wow, this is so strange, Yun Fan thought, stifling a laugh. How did things end up like this?
Even with his eyes closed, Wen Zhaofu seemed aware of Yun Fan’s state. He reached out from under the thin blanket, slightly opened his eyes, quickly grabbed Yun Fan’s hand, and adjusted the blanket.
A warm palm covered the back of Yun Fan’s hand. Yun Fan just looked at Wen Zhaofu without moving. The blanket, carrying Wen Zhaofu’s body warmth, wrapped around their arms, making everything feel perfectly comfortable.
"Sleep, Xiao Yun," Wen Zhaofu said, gently squeezing Yun Fan’s palm.
So Yun Fan fell asleep peacefully, his long eyelashes fluttering slightly, calm and content. Wen Zhaofu gazed at him tenderly, using immense self-control to keep from leaning in for a kiss.
He would only ever be Yun Fan’s *xian sheng* (a special term for 'sir').
The weather in Singapore was even hotter. Yun Fan pulled a small electric fan from his bag and pressed it into Wen Zhaofu’s hand. It was Wen Zhaofu’s first time using such a thing, and he found it surprisingly powerful for its size.
Yun Fan then took out a handkerchief and also pressed it into Wen Zhaofu’s hand. After all, Wen Zhaofu was sitting there in a suit, not as free to move around as Yun Fan.
"Sir, when do you plan to have your final surgery?" Yun Fan asked quietly.
Wen Zhaofu thought for a moment. "After we return to Hong Kong, you can accompany me to see Shi Ning, and we’ll decide together, okay?"
"Sure, sure!" Yun Fan nodded eagerly. "Sitting here is hot; standing would be cooler. I want you to get better quickly."
Noticing Wen Zhaofu’s slightly furrowed brow, Yun Fan crouched down and looked at him seriously. "I know this process might be long and tiring, but no matter what, I’ll be with you."
Wen Zhaofu smiled faintly, curled his finger, and gently booped Yun Fan’s nose. Under Yun Fan’s surprised gaze, he said softly, "Xiao Yun, thank you for giving me hope again. No one has ever been so determined to see me stand up. I’m very grateful to you."
"What kind of talk is that?" Yun Fan rubbed the back of his head. "Where else would I find an employer as good as you?"
"Employer? Just an employer?" Wen Zhaofu raised an eyebrow.
Yun Fan’s face flushed instantly. He didn’t want to look at Wen Zhaofu anymore and instead glanced at the few people in the parking lot. Wen Zhaofu’s smile deepened, intent on teasing Yun Fan in the hazy morning light.
"Xiao Yun, believe me, I’ll be a good partner," Wen Zhaofu said seriously. "Even though I’ve never taken on this role before, I can do it."
"Sir!" Yun Fan’s face was bright red. So early in the morning, everyone was still half-asleep. "Please, no more!"
Wen Zhaofu finally looked away, laughing heartily.
*
In Singapore, only two of Wen Zhaofu’s trusted aides knew of his arrival.
Since Wen Zhaofu began suspecting the person in charge of the Singapore project, they had been investigating discreetly. Now that they had some leads, they met with Wen Zhaofu to discuss the next steps.
"Catch him red-handed," Yun Fan summarized after listening. "For someone as meticulous as him, unless we catch evidence on the spot, he’ll have ten thousand and one excuses to justify himself."
Wen Zhaofu’s two aides exchanged meaningful glances, then looked at Wen Zhaofu. Catching him red-handed was no simple task—it was like catching someone in the act of infidelity.
"Let’s do it," Wen Zhaofu said lightly, raising his hand. "Xiao Yun is right. To deal with an old fox, we need to use thunderous methods."
Yun Fan glanced at Wen Zhaofu, thinking to himself that when it comes to a battle of wits, it takes a fox to handle it.
The two aides exchanged a look and nodded. "Big brother, you go rest first. We'll call you if there's any news."
"You, and," Yun Fan leaned in, pointing at himself, "me too!"
A cheating stakeout was such a big deal—of course Yun Fan wanted to get in on the action.
Wen Zhaofu smiled and nodded, also pointing at himself. "It's us."
To avoid tipping them off, Yun Fan and Wen Zhaofu stayed in the hotel during the day and ordered a table full of dishes for lunch. Yun Fan invited the two aides to join them, and together they all called Wen Zhaofu "big brother" one after another.
For a moment, Wen Zhaofu couldn't quite tell what world he was in. But hearing Yun Fan call him that, he got such a kick out of it that he even ate a couple more bites than usual.
Finally, Yun Fan raised his glass and clinked glasses with everyone. "To our successful mission!"
Wen Zhaofu laughed out loud, hearing the excitement in Yun Fan's tone, which eased the displeasure and anxiety in his heart.
For a manager, putting your trust in the wrong person was actually a significant blow. Wen Zhaofu found it hard to truly shake it off and couldn't help feeling frustrated.
Sensitive as he was, Yun Fan naturally noticed Wen Zhaofu's inner struggle. He couldn't change what had already happened, but he could stay by Wen Zhaofu's side and help him through this unhappy time.
"It's fine, I'm okay," Wen Zhaofu said, squeezing the nape of Yun Fan's neck without avoiding the two aides.
The two "big brothers" kept their eyes down and chose to stay silent. After all, they might be the first among all of Wen Zhaofu's close acquaintances to meet the wife.
Yun Fan also patted Wen Zhaofu's shoulder like a bro. "Big brother, with us here, there's nothing to worry about."
*
That evening, Wen Zhaofu received the message that it was go-time. Coincidentally, the scene of the affair was right in the hotel where they were staying.
The hotel was partly owned by the Wens—it seemed the two culprits also believed that the most dangerous place was the safest.
Yun Fan and Wen Zhaofu both wore black without even planning it. Yun Fan felt like they were a spy duo in a movie, about to carry out an undercover op.
Their mission wasn't exactly covert, but they were about to expose a secret.
Standing outside the room door, Wen Zhaofu raised his hand and gestured. The two "big brothers" kicked the door in, and Wen Zhaofu's wheelchair slid in after them, blocking the hallway and cutting off Yun Fan's angle.
After taking a few more steps inside, Yun Fan saw four entangled legs. Both were hairy—holy crap, two men!
Just as Yun Fan was about to look further up, Wen Zhaofu suddenly called his name. He lowered his head, his eyes still bright with anticipation. "Huh? Yeah?"
"Come here," Wen Zhaofu beckoned to Yun Fan.
Yun Fan was confused, hearing heated thrashing and cursing sounds behind him. But Wen Zhaofu reached out, pressed the back of his neck, and covered his eyes.
He couldn't see anything anymore—the good part right in front of him was gone!
Yun Fan thought, Wen Zhaofu, what are you doing? Get your paws off me!
Yun Fan grabbed Wen Zhaofu's wrist, but Wen Zhaofu refused to let go, his grip surprisingly strong.
"Put your clothes on."
"Come over and get down."
By the time Wen Zhaofu released Yun Fan, the two adulterers had already put on bathrobes, with no trace of their earlier intense activities on the bed.
Yun Fan gave a tight smile at Wen Zhaofu, looking at the culprit who had cheated him out of the show. Wen Zhaofu pressed his lips together, smiling slightly, and cleared his throat. "Not suitable for children."
Yun Fan shot him a look and shook his fist at Wen Zhaofu—this was unsuitable for everyone, young and old alike.
"Married with families, yet both cheating?" Wen Zhaofu interlaced his fingers, looking as if he had everything under control. "You two really are two peas in a pod."
Yun Fan looked at Wen Zhaofu in surprise—who knew he could also be so sarcastic? He was even savager than Cheng Yu.
"Transferring company funds to private accounts and planning to run off together? Your schemes are so loud I could hear them all the way in Hong Kong." Wen Zhaofu gave a cold smile. "Xiao Yun, what happens to people who get caught in Singapore?"
"They get their asses beaten black and blue!" Yun Fan said coldly.
