Chapter 50 You Missed Me
byChapter 50: You Missed Me
Damn it!
So that’s what he meant.
Upon arriving home, Lin Yunshu understood immediately, but it was already too late.
Even without the interference of pheromones, they possessed an absolutely fatal sexual attraction to each other.
The consequence was that once one took the initiative, the other lost all capacity for rational resistance.
When Zhou Yu physically demonstrated the answer to his question, Lin Yunshu could only absorb it.
A night passed, and Lin Yunshu lay exhausted on the bed, contemplating his life.
That girl, Guo Shengyao, was truly… full of surprises.
He got up, aching all over, expecting to feel miserable for most of the day. Yet, after some stretches, feeding the cat, and cleaning the litter box, he actually felt a bit better.
Zhou Yu had high and intense sexual needs, and Lin Yunshu had always thought his old bones couldn't handle much.
But over the past two months, he had gradually adapted and even started to savor the experience.
This was a frightening transformation.
Lin Yunshu had never imagined his body possessed such potential.
The wedding was in two days, and for those two days, they slept separately.
When Zhou Yu first suggested this, Lin Yunshu was curled up on the sofa, playing with Yu Shu. After hearing what Zhou Yu said, he looked utterly incredulous.
“What did you say?” he instinctively asked.
Zhou Yu said seriously, “Let’s sleep in separate rooms for these two days.”
Lin Yunshu’s face went blank for a moment, unable to react.
After all, Zhou Yu had always been the one clinging to him. He had long grown accustomed to being the passive one in their relationship.
Now that Zhou Yu suddenly proposed maintaining distance, Lin Yunshu had to admit he felt unaccustomed and strange.
His brow furrowed slightly as he pondered for a couple of seconds. Unable to comprehend, he hesitantly asked,
“Why?”
Could there be some problem between them that he hadn’t noticed?
“There’s no problem at all,” Zhou Yu instantly saw through his worry and explained, “I just think it’s necessary.”
Lin Yunshu didn’t understand.
He had already showered and was wearing comfortable, soft pajamas, planning to go to bed in about an hour.
His iPad rested on his lap, displaying the final details of the wedding venue that the planner had confirmed with him. He had originally intended to show it to Zhou Yu before bed.
At that moment, Lin Yunshu suddenly realized that he seemed to have already assumed Zhou Yu had a designated spot beside him in bed.
This sudden realization startled him slightly.
He began to wonder if he had truly developed an unconscious reliance on Zhou Yu.
“Yun Shu?”
Suddenly, his face was cupped.
Zhou Yu pressed his thumb against Lin Yunshu’s temple, looking serious. “Are you overthinking? Are you overthinking again? Stop it, stop it.”
Lin Yunshu’s throat caught, and he stubbornly denied it. “I’m not.”
“You certainly look like you are,” Zhou Yu said pointedly.
Lin Yunshu turned his head away and fell silent.
Zhou Yu sighed softly and gently put an arm around his shoulder. “It’s not that I don’t want to sleep with you. It’s just that I heard someone say that the night before the wedding, the couple shouldn’t share a bed.”
Zhou Yu’s heart completely melted, and he affectionately stroked Lin Yunshu’s cheek.
“I know what you want to say—that I shouldn’t be superstitious,” he explained, defending himself. “I’m just afraid… I’m a little worried about your health.”
As he spoke, his gaze swept over Lin Yunshu’s upper body.
A blanket covered Lin Yunshu’s waist, concealing his legs, but Zhou Yu knew those legs were fair and slender, with ankles so delicate he could encircle one with his hand.
Often, he didn’t dare to pull too forcefully on Lin Yunshu’s ankles. Instead, he would usually support the back of his knees with one hand and cradle his lower back with the other, pulling him closer in a way that reduced the strain.
Not to mention, Lin Yunshu was now wearing cotton pajamas, the collar slightly open, revealing skin on his neck and chest so pale it seemed to glow like pearls even in dim light.
Lin Yunshu looked down, lost in thought, his long, downturned eyelashes brushing against the corners of his eyes.
Zhou Yu couldn’t resist touching them, and the delicate lashes trembled sensitively before fluttering upward like feathers as Lin Yunshu looked at him.
“You might not realize it,” Zhou Yu said, cupping his face and glancing at his collar, “but to me, no matter how conservatively you dress, you’re still tempting me.”
Lin Yunshu: “……?”
Still caught in his confusion and slight worry, Zhou Yu’s sudden suggestive comment jolted his soul.
His minor worries vanished instantly, replaced by utter speechlessness.
How could he have forgotten? Zhou Yu was a master of mischief. No matter how serious he looked, if you believed him, you’d already lost.
This man would never be truly serious.
Zhou Yu: “You know I’m not exactly a person with great self-control. Once I get carried away, it’s hard to stay rational. Sleeping in the same bed with you but not being able to touch you would be absolute torture.”
Lin Yunshu: “……”
Zhou Yu got more worked up as he spoke: “A full wedding ceremony is actually quite exhausting. I don’t want you walking down the aisle with me—or even saying your vows—in an uncomfortable state.”
He seemed to be imagining it as he spoke, clearly getting into it: “You need proper rest these two days. I can’t disturb you. For the sake of you being in your best shape, I’m willing to hold back!”
Lin Yunshu: “………”
Noticing Lin Yunshu’s expression, Zhou Yu changed tack. “But if you really can’t stand being apart from me, it’s not like I can’t—”
Lin Yunshu immediately sprang up from the sofa, gathered the blanket and iPad, dashed into the room, and slammed the door shut.
He walked away resolutely, without looking back.
Zhou Yu: "o.o"
He turned to look at Yu Shu.
The sofa was in disarray—the little kitten's fur was messy, and it stared with wide, confused eyes: "O.O"
Zhou Yu murmured, "He didn't look back even once."
Yu Shu: "Meow~"
·
For the first time in ages, Lin Yunshu had the entire bed to himself.
The first half of the night was actually quite enjoyable.
Lin Yunshu tossed and turned on the bed, rolling around for a long time without falling off, which made him realize just how big his bed truly was.
After sleeping with Zhou Yu for so long, his spot had been limited to the right side of the bed.
Every time he turned over in his sleep, he’d bump into the wall before even completing half a turn. Zhou Yu would then pull him close and continue sleeping, while Lin Yunshu usually was too sleepy to resist.
But now, how wonderful it was.
Lin Yunshu lay sprawled in the center of the bed, his arms and legs moving freely. The silk sheets were as soft as clouds, making every position comfortable.
He let out a satisfied sigh, reached out his hand, turned off the light, and waited to fall asleep.
The room temperature was just right. Lin Yunshu had only draped the blanket over his waist. At first, it felt comfortable, but gradually, he noticed his heart racing.
The night was quiet, and the surroundings were too still—he could even hear his own heartbeat clearly.
The sound echoed in his ears, disturbing him so much that he couldn’t fall asleep.
He turned onto his side, pressing his palms against his ears, but it didn't help much.
Out of helplessness, he threw the blanket aside, hooked the duvet with his foot, and pulled it over himself.
The duvet cover still carried Zhou Yu’s scent. Lin Yunshu wrapped it tightly around himself, and only then did his racing heart gradually calm down.
He relaxed his tensed brow wearily, and he slowly drifted off.
But this night seemed unusually long.
In the second half of the night, Lin Yunshu suddenly woke up.
He felt a mild heart flutter, breathing shallowly, his fingers unconsciously clutching the duvet against his chest.
It was too dark around him—for a moment, he couldn’t tell if his eyesight was blurry or if the environment was just that dim.
The palpitations lasted about five minutes before finally fading away.
Lin Yunshu could see light again—the cold, pale moonlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting faint, shifting shadows on the floor.
He gazed vacantly for a moment until blood flowed back into his limbs, and his hands and feet no longer felt like ice. Then he moved a little.
But then he abruptly stopped.
It was only then that he realized he, without realizing it, had moved to Zhou Yu’s side of the bed, burying his face in the pillow to breathe in the other’s scent.
This realization made Lin Yunshu freeze all over.
He couldn’t believe how dependent he had become on Zhou Yu’s scent—so much so that he couldn’t sleep without it.
Even the remaining scent on the duvet and clothes were no longer enough to satisfy him.
Did he really need Zhou Yu by his side at all times, constantly soothing him with his scent?
But how was that possible?
They weren’t conjoined twins. Two living people together would always need personal space, and there would inevitably be times when they had to be apart.
Being too inseparable would only lead to boredom and arguments.
Yet, the physiological need was undeniable, leaving Lin Yunshu feeling utterly defeated.
To rely on another person’s scent to survive—what difference was there between that and being a parasite?
Even after much psyching himself up, Lin Yunshu still couldn’t accept being like this, and to some extent, it even affected his feelings toward Zhou Yu.
Lin Yunshu pushed himself up on the bed, buried his face in his palms, and slowly let out a breath.
Maybe surgery would help?
Right, surgery.
He suddenly remembered that the doctor had said if his condition stabilized, he could undergo surgery the following year.
If it succeeded, perhaps he wouldn’t have to cling to Zhou Yu like a parasite anymore. Instead, he could reexamine their relationship from a truly equal standpoint.
At this thought, a glimmer of hope flickered in his heart.
His back felt chilly—he had broken into a cold sweat during the palpitations.
Lin Yunshu got out of bed, went to the bathroom, washed his face, changed into clean pajamas, and calmed down before leaving the bedroom.
The living room was silent.
Zhou Yu was sleeping on the sofa, and his sleeping posture was rather... indescribable.
Lin Yunshu finally understood why he spun around like a top in his sleep—this guy had never complained about it. Turns out, they were two of a kind.
In the hazy moonlight, Zhou Yu was fast asleep. On the cushion above his head was a small, furry figure.
Yu Shu lay there, head to head with Zhou Yu, purring like a little motorcycle.
Even the most cold-hearted person would find the scene heartwarming.
Lin Yunshu made no sound, staring thoughtfully for a moment under the moonlight, a faint, unconscious smile curling his lips.
Not wanting to wake the two of them, he tiptoed to the counter, picked up a glass gently, and poured himself some water.
The light was dim, and he had to concentrate to avoid spilling the water. He didn’t notice that the person sprawled on the sofa was gone.
The next second, someone hugged him from behind.
Lin Yunshu jumped with surprise, his hand trembling so much that the glass fell.
The sound of shattering glass never came—the man caught the cup firmly and set it back on the counter.
"Scared?" Zhou Yu asked softly.
Lin Yunshu’s heart was beating a little too fast. He pressed a hand lightly against his chest and quickly calmed down, wrapped in the other’s pheromones.
"No," he said.
He fumbled to pour water again, but the other person beat him to it.
Zhou Yu deftly scooped up the cup, effortlessly poured half a glass of water, and held it to his lips. "Open your mouth."
Lin Yunshu was indeed thirsty and didn’t try to resist, taking a few sips from Zhou Yu’s hand.
"That’s a good boy." Zhou Yu ruffled Lin Yunshu’s hair. "Do you have a bit of night blindness?"
Lin Yunshu wasn’t sure.
"Probably not," he mumbled vaguely.
"Looks like it to me," Zhou Yu tsked. "Seeing you fumble in the dark to pour water is such a struggle. I’ll make sure you eat more carrots from now on, and leave a light on at night so you won’t bump into things."
"It’s not that serious…" Lin Yunshu pushed Zhou Yu’s hand off him. "I’m going back to sleep."
Zhou Yu pulled him close, confidently. "You missed me."
Lin Yunshu froze, instinctively denying it. "What nonsense are you talking?"
"Am I wrong?" Zhou Yu seemed utterly sure.
Not one to back down, Lin Yunshu stated firmly, "No, I was just thirsty and came out for some water."
But Zhou Yu laughed, his laughter tickling Lin Yunshu’s ears.
"You did miss me," he insisted. "You don’t usually get thirsty in the middle of the night."
